Really? Did we see the same speech? She laid out nothing. No facts, no policies and showed contempt towards both independents and democrats. All she did was make smug jokes. We've already had that for 8 years and look at where it has landed us.

I never make a choice by listening to other peoples comments or point of views, especially the media. I hope most Americans can make their own choice . Looking past all of the spectacles, dramatics, staging , music and motivational speakers of both partys. Character is what I base my choice on . People say when a politician cheats on his wife that his personal life has nothing to do with his job performance. It most
certainly does. A persons character says it all. Personally , I could never vote for HIllary Clinton, I have no respect for a woman who has know respect for herself. She should have left her cheating husband and then pursued her political aspirations. She couldn't even fight for her own dignity , not the woman I want in the White House. As far as Obama , well ,he is a well spoken, well dressed educated young black man. OOps is that poitically correct. If not I don't care. He 's a great motivational speaker and he promotes change but he really didn't say how. The funny thing is we are not supposed to be prejudice , but we are constantly reminded that this man is black. Who cares? If we are not supposed to look at him as a black man then stop telling me he's black and stop making it a big deal that he is the first. If this man has had the opportunity in this country to make it as far as he has, with a crowd of white supporters. How dare any one in this country try to say that this country is prejudice. Wake up people and stop blaming your inability to succeed on prejudism . Barack Obama has completely ruined your excuse ! John McCain is a National Hero , people say they are tired of him using this story to exploit his presidential candidacy. Oh OK ! The man was tortured for his country how many other people can say that. UMM I don't know anyone ,do you?
Now thats Character. Sarah Palin jut like she said she's a hockey mom. Just like one of us. Not from a fortunate family just a mom. With five children. She represents most woman and alot of American family issues.Working mom,s with families. She has a boy going into the military, she can understand what military familyies are going through . She has a special child , and a pregnant teen. Maybe he will marry her , maybe he won't. How many unwed mothers are there in this country. These are issues in America, not politics. LIFE. I vote for Sarah Palin . She's young, a mom, smart, pretty, she's not nasty she's a strong intelligent women ..

Prom Queen, please do some more reading before you decide on Palin. She is a wolf in sheep clothing. She vetoed a bill for "special children" before she had one. She is pro-life,but kills beautiful animals for the fun of it. She is against gay & lesbians rights; she is against interracial marriages. Against abortion even if rapte or incest was involved. Now she can believe what she wants, but when in a political position such as the one she has, numerous people, race, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, etc. etc. must be considered.

To me she was smug, holier than thou, a pit bull with lipstick (just as she described herself). I don't believe she identifies with very many women outside of Alaska. How many women do you know who can kill a beautiful deer, dress it (that means gutting it) and drag it home to be cut up for food. How many women can shoot an AK 14 rifle (unless they are military) or it is a sport for them; You see Republican men like this particular skill in her because it makes her fit in the "good ole boys club." And she obviously does not practice what she preaches about abstinence; how many others areas are there in which she is all "lip." Women outside of Alaska need to spend a little more time reading about this lady. Because she does not identify with most women outside of Alaska. What she does naturally, i.e., shooting a deer or moose, comes naturally beause she was born and raised in Alaska. Her ideas are not broad and encompassing because she has been engulfed in a small town with few people. Even as Governor she has a problem with Viewing the Big Picture. Yes. Women outside Alaska will have a problem identifying with Sara Palin.

People tortured for their country? Yeah there's alot of them. Some of them virtually homeless, and some of them missing limbs. McCain was not the only POW.

He maybe the only one who has helped run the country into the ground, was a member of the Keating 5, has $100 million in the bank, and thinks that being a POW is the only qualification needed to run a country as well as an acceptable answer to any question.

Most Hockey Moms are honest, and don't lie every other sentence..
She only pretends to be a hockey mom.

And I'm sure that's exactly what Obama wants from the American people; for them to think, "Gee he's a really great guy, wears nice clothes, and he's Harvard educated (so he must know EVERYTHING)" so that you'll vote for him. How very "prom queenish" and high-school president'ish of you.

  • Posted By: Florida Bob @ 09/04/2008 7:40:54 PM

While I agree that she is comfortable onstage, that is hardly a reason to choose someone in as a Vice President. What I also noticed is that she said NOTHING of substance, other than to insinuate that she was more qualified than Obama.
As for qualifications, compare a few FACTS:
    OBAMA:
B.A in political science from Columbia University, specializing in International Relations
J.D in Law from Harvard, Magna *** Laude (Republicans, that means he did real good!)
President of the Harvard Law Review
Taught Constitutional Law for 12 years (92-04)
State Senator for 7 years, and sponsored over 800 bills
Illinois Senator for 4 years (a state with 12.8 million people)

    PALIN
Bachelors degree from the University of Ohio in Journalism
Wasilla City Councilwoman for 4 years (a city of 8000 people)
Mayor of Wasilla (still 8000 people)
Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation commission for 1 year
Governor of Alaska for 20 months (a state of 660,000 people)

After comparing these FACTS, it is very obvious why she said nothing of any substance last night. I can also see why the Republicans are so excited about her. Can any Republican refute this without acting like a 2 year old?
If it came down to it, WHO WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE WITH THEIR FINGER ON A POTENTIAL NUCLEAR BOMB BUTTON?

  • Posted By: tile @ 09/04/2008 8:05:46 PM

are you serious? there is no comparison between the two in speaking ability. setting aside content from both sides, the correct sports analogy is that she is on the JV football team and obama has a storied 10 year professional career on the chicago bears...(that puts Bush in Pop Warner BTW). at least be intellectually honest enough to say that he has a gift of oration who can draw crowds and move people to action where few other politicians in the past can or were able. she is really my nice next door neighbor barely being able to convince me that someone fouled her son at the local ball game.

McCain blew his chance to roll out his VP choice in a positive light. Great for the right-wing Limbaugh listening base, but not so great for the majority of Americans who are tired of divisive Rove style partisanship and gridlock. After a brief attempt at an upbeat bio, someone cried havoc, and released this self-described pitbull of war. Palin came across as narrow-minded, mean-spirited , sarcastic, smug - well, essentially George W. Bush with a beehive hairdo. Speaking of W., his party kept him at satellite length and gave him less than eight minutes of their time - how pathetic is that.

September 03, 2008. So the mainstream media seems to now be letting up on the Palin baby drama, but we're not. MediaTakeOut.com just received evidence that calls into question whether Gov Palin's alleged son Trig was born when and where she claims.

We conducted a preliminary search of the Mat-Su Regional hospital's website (where baby Trig was supposedly born on April 18th), and the website DOES NOT show any record of Trig's birth. Instead, the site shows that only 2 baby's were born in the hospital that day - an Isaiah Travis and a Kayden Lexus.

It's still not enough for us to CONCLUSIVELY say that Gov Palin is full of it, but we're getting there. So now let's go with what we know AS FACT:

    1. Palin hid her pregnancy from the media. When she finally announced her pregnancy (in March) she was not showing any obvious signs of pregnancy despite being 7 MONTHS PREGNANT - Source.

    2. Gov. Palin mysteriously took her daughter Bristol out of school a few months before the March pregnancy announcement. The "official" reason for Bristol's removal from school was because she caught a serious case of Mononucleosis.

    3. During the time that Bristol was out of school with that "serious case of mono", Trig was born.

    4. No record of Trig's birth is readily available from the hospital which Palin claims to have delivered.

    5. And here is the kicker. Since Bristol is supposedly 5 months pregnant now, she must have conceived her child while she was out of school with that supposed serious case of mono.

    Stay tuned............

I was a little worried about who I would have to vote for. Even though I am Democratic I will not and can not vote for Obama. He scares me, no he terrifies me. I liked McCain but he needed more than he had. He now has it. I really like all I have seen and hear about Palin. She is real people with real person's problems. As much as I like McCain; Palin will secure my vote for McCain. He picked a great running mate. All I want to say is you go girl. This 66 years old great grandma is all for you. Don't any of you think that Obama is a shoe in. We the woman of the US see something in Palin that we see in ourselves. She has strength, character, love, understand of problems, and knows how to go about learning about any problem area she my be week in. She is going to appeal to the American women, and the women are going to stand with her. Obama is going to lose a lot of women voters now, and some men too; after their wifes explain what a good choice Palin is. Palin brings it down to the voters level; we worry about our children; a pay check; health care. The programs women need in where Palin will be and where we will want her to be.

As a woman, I was proud to have HRC in the running for President. As a Republican, I didn't agree with her positions. This is a woman who I can identify with in every sense. She is my new hero. We love her because she is REAL. As far as the trailer park comments, I have one word...SNOBS! Those of you making Jerry Springer comments clearly don't realize how she inspires real women. Those that diminish her accomplishments need to realize at the very least, she IS living the American Woman's dream. She is doing it ALL. This is what our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers have been fighting for for so many years. Fighting for the CHOICE to do whatever she wants with her life. She is not a lawyer with an ivy league pedigree. I am so proud to be a woman in this country at this moment in time.

      • Posted By: Interested Reader @ 09/04/2008 7:58:08 PM

Real women run a campaign on integrity and character. They don't throw dirt and speak of others in a condesending way. Perhaps she is a real women, but we wouldn't know. If you loved Palin's performance, according to you, it sounds like Bush's speech makers are the real women. PS~ I am also a real women, and I would never conduct myself in front of the entire nation in that manner.

Folks... the whole Republican conventions shows just one thing- they are desperate to cling on to relevance and power. Imagine this trashy diatribe devoid of any attempt to address the real issues confornting Americans, from a discredited political neophyte with serious credibility problems. What is America turning into? I guess like the sages say..."all civilization get to a point they self destruct and implode"... and America seems to be no different.
Otherwise how can the party of great Americans like Lincoln and Reagan be adoring and cheering a woman with no morals, currently under investigation for abuse of office, whose unmarried teenage daughter is pregnant, who has also been revealed to have adulterous relationship with her husband's business partner...!
Americans must save themselves from this national disgrace!

The democrats are the party of bullies, they have for 8 years called republicans every vile name but when a women hits back at the ridiculousness of the Obama campaign and that he is even in the running to be President they cry foul. The problem with President Bush is he gave democrats and the left-wing nuts that control them to much respect, he has never fought back, always trying to stay on the higher ground but that just encouraged them to get in more vicious, What the left should figure out that they don't have the monopoly on fighting back smears even if Bush convinced them that they did.

    Dude,

A speech is not equivalent to her true beliefs and record as a politician.

The facts are this chick Palin digs the teachings of Intelligent Design over Scientific Evolution, believes pregnant women should carry their rapist's babies, attended FIVE separate universities before she could get a degree in Journalism (then never got a job as a reporter), doesn't beleive in educating our teens about STD's such as HIV, HPV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Herpes, used her political office inappropriately and is under investiagtion in her home state of Alaska, stupidly humilialted her retarded son by naming him TRIG, had to bail her husband out for a DUI, the list goes on......God Bless America! GO Obama! Go Illini!

  • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/04/2008 4:52:00 PM

I watched as Palin and others mocked Obama and his supporters.
Mocked community organizers who try to come in after communities are left in disarray and help people after companies have picked up their factories and moved them overseas in pursuit of the almighty profit.
Mocked people for being enthusiastic about finally getting some needed changes to help revitalize the economy.
Mocked the value of all Obama's legislative accomplishments, and the ideas that so many of us share with him.
Mocked people as murderers for simply not accepting that a certain religious group should take over healthcare decisions.
And shamelessly glorified the deaths of over 4000 Americans, and many thousands of Iraqis in a war fought to forcibly obtain oil rights in a foreign country for BP, ExxonMobile and Shell.

And in the hall, hooting and hollering and laughter all around.

The level of dishonesty is astounding. How proud they must be...

    • Posted By: Jmon @ 09/04/2008 6:29:39 PM

Oh poor Barack Obama! How dare anyone make fun of Innocent Saint Obama for thinking that being a community organizer qualifies you to be Commander-in-Chief. Newsflash: This politics, not backgammon! If you can't handle criticism, then you have no business running for office. If Obama is to proud or too scared to fight back, then he has no one but himself to blame if and when he loses in November.

      • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 09/04/2008 7:55:58 PM

Perhaps you weren't aware that Obama is a US Senator? Or that he was an Illinois State Senator? Or...that he was President of Harvard Law Review (quite an accomplishment for anyone), and that he taught Consitutional Law? (And you know the Republicans are always talking about how important the Constitution is - even now). If you don't want to vote for Obama because you don't agree with his politics, that is your right as an American citizen. But to mock him because instead of taking a cushy (and high-paying) Wall Street job, he decided to work for poor people in the community doesn't seem very American - we LOVE to help our fellow citizens. As for "handling criticism", haven't you been listening for the past year? People have been taking shots at him right and left...and he seems to be doing just fine. If you are ever in trouble, and need help from your fellow man, there is nothing like an American to come to the rescue. Obama is just following that tradition.

The thing I find so interesting in all of this is that Blacks are no longer the unintelligent, lack of education people in America. I love it when they say small town people, people making less than 50,000 and no college education, beer drinking, gun toting, don't believe in science, thinks the world is flat, blue collar workers. The truth is finally being shown that the real dumb people of America is the people John McCain and Sarah Palin is hoping to attract. Their backhand message is that these people are two stupid to see what has been going on in America for the last eight years and we can sell them anything and they will buy it. I love how they care about them. Make me want to have a baby at seventeen, get married and buy me a trailer. Holy cow life is awesome!

  • Posted By: PS Alaska @ 09/04/2008 7:54:33 PM

I live in Alaska and I can say clearly that Sarah Palin while attractive on the surface is very shallow. She is not interested in governing here in Alaska it is too boring for her. She likes to be on TV and dress up not unlike Al Sharpton or Norm Coleman. If we buy the act - and it sounds very convincing we deserve what we get. Ideas do not matter to her....sound bites and meaningless yet provocitive jestures are what she is about. For Alaska's sake it would be great if she went to DC but given McCain's age it would be a disaster for the country. Remember the landing on the aircraft carrier....that is the type of thing she lives for not the real work of government which is frankly not all that exciting.

After 40 years of voting Democrat, I had decided to vote for a 3rd party candidate this time (although having Biden on the ticket made me happy). Still, I didn't like Hillary and didn't really like Obama.

Everything has changed this week. I'll be happy to vote for Obama and even let them put signs in my yard. I am completely shocked that the Republicans skipped all the qualified men and women, regardless of whether I'd like any of them. My gosh. If they thought they had to pick a woman, what about any of the Republican congressional women? Any of the anchorwomen on any network would know more and will have travelled more and have world views.

Sarah Palin is catty and nasty. Close your eyes, imagine an older, unattractive woman or man and listen to her mean words again. She is pretty and is getting away with some of the most vile, divisive speech I've heard in a long time. It is time to look at this with clear eyes and see it for what it is.

  • Posted By: TBinSD @ 09/04/2008 7:49:18 PM

Palin is a POP TART. In the coming weeks we will all she what she has to offer. She's been around for a few days and every rightwing wind bag is praising this woman they just met. . . It's like going out on a first date: totally excited and exhilarating . . . until you find out she has herpes. Then the romance is gone and you have to find another new thing to obsess about.

  • Posted By: cm4297 @ 09/04/2008 7:14:07 PM

So, oh, post this. As Palin was speaking, she also broke another record. She managed to help the Obama campaign raise $8 million dollars and counting. Girl, I need my tuition paid, can you attack me too?

I watched Sarah Palin and thought she was a hoot! What a character! If she was on a sit-com, she would be the star, for sure! Her Republican make-over was great - her hair looked much better (professionally done), they got rid of those huge hoop earrings she was wearing over the weekend (and don't you bet Cindy McCain loaned her those gorgeous-looking South Sea pearls she was wearing!). Her suit was beautiful and she was a firecracker! There's only one problem...SHE THINKS SCHOOLS SHOULD TEACH CREATIONISM!!!! She doesn't want to overturn Roe v. Wade, (meaning that there would be no federal law supporting abortion, and then each state could make their own laws), SHE WANTS TO OUTLAW ABORTIONS FOR ALL, INCLUDING RAPE AND INCEST VICTIMS!!!!!!! Her supporters are tickled pink that she CHOSE to continue a pregnancy after she found out that the child might be disabled, and that her daughter CHOSE to keep her child, even though she was unmarried, BUT SHE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO HAVE A CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care that's she's a little bit of a smarty-pants (after all, we know she didn't write her own speech), or that she's been designated the GOP pit-bull (every party has one, or two, or twelve). The reason I've now made a decision to vote for the Democrats is because I'm scared to death that if McCain (who I actually admire) gets elected, the Republican Party will NEVER get rid of these nuts! The only way the Republicans will get the message that they need to stop listening to these goofs is to elect Obama by a landslide! I no longer care if Obama will be a good President or just an average one (he can't possibly be worse than Bush), I'm voting for him. For me, at least, Palin has pushed me AWAY from McCain. P.S. By the way...isn't it ironic that now that we are hearing "drill, drill, drill" as the new Republican motto, that they haven't noticed that oil has already dropped $40 per barrel, and traders think it is going lower??? hee hee!!! Sorry...I thought that was funny!

Palin is a giant killer - and it's a proven fact she is not hesitant to take on the giants. She hit the liberal media, Obama, and congressional adversaries right between the eyes - no mixed messages - not a doubt about her words. Americans all - fed up with politics as usual - should rally behind such attitudes. We are not getting value for the dollars we spend on government and most are worried about being asked to spend more when our own bank accounts can't stand it. Make no bones about it, this election is about our ways of life - whether we want work hard and succeed or to forfeit (under Obama) our personal successes by paying for those who are not successful. Our nation has too many voters willing to sit back and wait for failed social programs to foster their mediocrity - and who would blame them with jobs being shipped overseas, energy dependency on foreign oil stripping their wallets and illegal immigrants sapping up benefits. These demoralized, disenfranchised citizens need hope - not more handouts. They want jobs, not rhetoric and sympathy. Our most powerful natural resource is the aspiration of every American to live the American dream, to proudly provide for one's self and one's family. Let government get out of their way and Americans will show as always that they are not victims, but proud participants in a march to success. Obama says government is the solution. Palin says it is the problem, and she has shown her ability to to tackle that - head on.

    • Posted By: blackcourt @ 09/04/2008 3:39:06 PM

      *starts a slow clap*

The answer isn't MORE government... thats what Obama/Biden wants you to think. They want to line their own pockets with your money.

The answer is LESS government... thats what McCain/Palin want you to think. They want you to keep your money and spend it how it is best for you.

      • Posted By: Sunsetme @ 09/04/2008 3:58:51 PM

How about talking about the real lining of pockets in Alaska? Every resident, including babies, gets a Rebate Refund every year. Last payout was over $1600 per person. For a family of 7, that a check for over $11,000. It's no wonder Palin wanted to give less of Alaska's oil money to the Federal government and more to her own state. More to line her pockets with and a good reason to just keep having kids.

        • Posted By: openmindedandlistening @ 09/04/2008 7:37:37 PM

Have you thought about what you would do if you were a governor of a state? I think I would want to make that state and the people of that state as well off as they could be. If she were giving money back to the people of the state of Alaska, how can you claim she just wanted more money to line HER pockets? It only shows that if she will fight that hard for her state, imagine how hard she could fight for a country.

Trailer Trash and a Highschool Cheerleader did all this. God bless the GOP. If this woman, with those little bit of skills, can whip up the dems then thats not saying much for their choice of leaders. No wonder all you can say is cheap, shallow and narrow. As Bill O would say; PINHEAD
