let me put it this way. FACTCHECK.ORG HAS LOST ITS CREDIBILITY. The final cut came when it says Obama was the most liberal two times in a sentence and factcheck tried to spin it. ... could n't resist it.

    • Posted By: DavidCA @ 09/05/2008 11:54:13 AM

To paraphrase the immortal words of Harry Truman:

Factcheck.org isn't giving Republicans hell. They're just telling the truth, but Republicans think it's hell.

The personal Palin story is overshadowing a much more significant piece of news for evangelicals:
"We learned last week that John McCain really wanted to choose his very good friend, Joe Lieberman, for VP but caved into pressure from the religious right. McCain will save his Lieberman pick for the Supreme Court ??? sorry evangelicals but you???ll have no leverage on Maverick McCain by then. Your Vice President will have no power in the process and a Democratic majority will happily confirm pro-choice Lieberman to the Supreme Court!???
Please understand the debate about abortion is essentially over. It seemed as though it may have been getting clearer to some during Lieberman's address at the convention.

The thing about Lieberman at this point is that he is an embarrassment to what Loyalty actually means. He is loyal only to himself. He doesn't matter anymore. He'll do things that only benefit himself.

Sorry, but this factcheck is laughable!

    • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 09/05/2008 11:50:49 AM

McCain has no honor. He is no Maverick. He tells you what you want to hear with no substance, no platform. He'll say whatever he can to get into office.

Congrats to you on McCain the third choice for the Repub nod. Republicans still can't get it right. They were wrong on Nixon, Ford, Reagan and both Bushes. The Republican party has not had a true leader in office since Eisenhower and he is questionable. The Republican run congresses have botched anything of worth. The only thing that the Republican party has going for them is the smear of fear.

    • Posted By: jklipuma @ 09/04/2008 8:35:14 PM

Nice try ! please stop trying to correct the foolishness of the selection and cover up more truths. If your hero and man who is "hoping" to run this country couldn't stick to his first choice and assert himself how will he do with future decisions? He has once again shown all of us that he is a puppet of the party just like the current puppet. Your VP pick is nothing more than a conversation piece !!

  • Posted By: cferns1530 @ 09/05/2008 11:12:54 AM

I pity the Republicans, not because of their constant bashing of the Democrats but because they do it knowing that McCain is overshadowed by party-doll Palin. And to use a woman when all hope fails just to break the glass-ceiling as Palin mentioned is cheap.

Its funny that they choose to believe in McCain when he talks about change in Washington but still needs Bush's approval. And agreeing with Bush on 90% of the issues is not bi-partisan, it's called pandering.

You seemed to have forgotten the MUTUAL agreement made by Osama and McCain on the Monies that they would use to fund their Presidential EFFORTS???? IF Osama's lips are moving....the dude is LYING....between the duhh, ahhh,, uhhh, mmmmmuuuumm...lelt me see....HE is OUR WORST NIGHTMARE..

COL. Khajawall, regarding your litmus test list:

<1. Does the joint ticket have a calm, cool, and collected " temper and impulse" [Presidential Temperament]?>
In my observations of national and global affairs, you are either a hammer or a nail. I personally would prefer my President to be the hammer.
<2. Does each ticket have sound and sustained "Judgment and Caliber"?>
This is a very subjective test. In matters of judment every person has a unique preference regarding the outcome and manner to which it is reached. As for caliber I do not doubt that resolve and professionalism exist on both tickets.
<3. Does each ticket have a "presidential depth and degree" in regard to their purpose, policies, and positions?>
Again this one has a significant degree of subjectivity. Looking at it rationally I cannot help but see the comparison is really between McCain and Biden. All other things being equal the top of the ticket outweighs the bottom.
<4. Does each ticket have adequate, "understanding and knowledge" of workings around Washington"?>
    See the response to #3.
<5. Does each ticket have enough "vigor, wisdom and Vision" for the future of our beloved Great-grand Nation?>
If by this you mean 'hope and change' rhetoric then I simultaniously agree that Obama has the edge and disagree that it is a rational component for deciding our Nation's leader. If instead you mean demonstable resolve to effect hope and change, then McCain/Palin top Obama/Biden when considering the teams as wholes. Individually I would rank McCain and Biden as roughly equivalent, then Palin, and then Obama. Sadly this puts the top of the Democratic ticket at the bottom of the list.
<6. Does each ticket possess enough joint foreign policy experience and ex-poser based on "American Values, Virtues, Vastness, and strong soul"?>
The resopnse to #5 fits pretty well here as well, with the exception of Palin/Obama being roughly even when considered individually. Again though this serves to highlight to awkard upside down nature of the Democratic ticket.
<7. Are their campaign talk, slogans, ads, plans, and programs based on facts and are they free of fear, fiction, frivolous labels, unfair attacks, negativity, and impulsivity?>
The fact is, right or wrong, negative ads are extremely effective. It interests me that with your psychiatric background you don't recognize the humanistic tendency to gravitate to success. This leads me back to my response to item #1, in that I want a President who isn't afraid to vigorously pursue the interests of my country. Artificially hobbling his diplomatic arsenal would, to me, be a weakness, not a strength.

Your are fool or as many like you have been fooled and sucked in by deception and trickery. If your truly interested in "Country First" which is obvious your repub party is not then you should realize that this battle is about the american people and what is overall best for them and not your chosen few . It's not about one man or woman it's about the American people first. Please stop trying to decieve and defocus off the disaster caused by the bought and paid for republican party!!

    • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 09/04/2008 4:22:29 PM

The worst blunder here is to formulate a simplistic metaphor...especially one that amounts to a false alternative to begin with ("you are either a hammer or a nail")... and then attempt analysis of complex events or personal qualifications as if the absurd model offered by the metaphor constituted an accurate description. The resulting "analysis" starts at the bottom, and goes downhill from there.

I am amazed how this women is suppose to stand up for women and her being picked was designed to get women's vote ?- what a joke - she supports taking away a women's choice regarding her body and reproductive choice and is anti choice including incidents of rape and incest. She supports only abstinence and funding towards that teaching in schools ? Are you kidding ? If she cant even teach abstinence to one of her 5 kids, how does she think or expect that will work for kids across the US ? And along that same line, I agree that kids are off limits and this is about Palin's record and experience or better lack of experience and utter hipocracy, but (a) her comments about her daughter choosing to keep her child and marry the father - what Palin forgets is that her daughter made that choice and government should never take that right away from a women and (b) her daughter's preganacy does go to the heart of her ideas and platform as to abstinence since Palin has proven that it doesnt even work inside her own family unit. I cant believe that she was picked to help get the undecided voters that were Hilary supporters - what McCain forgets is that Hilary supports and Hilary herself stood for strong women, and would never take away a women's right to make her own choices or to teach highschool kids to choose not to have sex, but if they do choose to become sexually active, then do so responsibility and teach them about birth control so we dont have a country of kids with stds or pregnant at 15. Furthermore, Palin herself gave an interview a few months back in which she critisized Hilary for "whining" is the word that Palin used for claiming unfair treatment and bais based upon her sex. Palin was very judgmental of Hilary's claim of sexism and now she turns around and is making the same claims and crying sexism and the media ? There is nothing about the way Palin is being treated that is based upon her sex. Any candidiate for VP or President would be and is put under the same microscope and their lives are pulled apart and just because she happens to be a women does not make the same treatment of Palin as unfair or sexist. In fact, her own comments about a hockey Mom, a bulldog and lipstick, calling herself a "babe" and her own delegates wore butoons about having the hottest gov and VP are teh only sexist comments that I have heard or sexist treatment I have seen. Stop whining and stick to the issues - but then again, when you dont have any experience, cant even pronounce big words without phonetic spelling on the teleprompter and have consistently lied about your record and what you have and have not supported, I guess that the only thing that you can do is through out red herrings and hope that american people will fall for it and ignore the fact that your whole speech was about hating Obama and had nothing to do about what you plan to do if (gasp and lord I hope not) get voted into the whitehouse with McCain.

After all the "american" voter reelected george w.??? Dems keep the momentum going, and no holds barred!

McCain shook Obama hand and told him that he thanks him for not running a smear campaign, then he runs one himself. I can't help but think or a scene where one guy shake the hand of the opponent then out of nowhere hits the guy over the head with a bottle.

As for Palin, I think of a western scene when the lady says " you wouldn't shoot a lady would you', and blast the guy as he's walking away.

I hope Biden kisses his wife and mother and apologizes for what he HAS to do.to Palin. He'll have to keep saying to himself she is a VP candidate not a woman because she thinks she's like a pit bull with lipstick. You know she will rip his arm off and hand it back to him, while smiling the whole time..

McCain might think she's safe, well let's say this, walk past a hungry pit bull with a steak in your hands, that's how safe McCain is. SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS.

I guess Alaska will get a serious chance to separate from the US after all , that will be another first.

Since she likes to take the Obama's words out of context; she did say she;s Alaskan first right? .

If McCain were elected, Palin could be President within a couple of years, or even a couple of months. Thats the whole point of the job of Vice President (the weight of the office ages the President... we've all seen this... and McCain is already old). If Obama hasn't enough experience to be President, as McCain has argued, then what of Palin, with LESS experience yet? McCain's campaign arguments are now becoming hopelessly entangled with inherent contradictions.

While Sarah Palin's stance on a woman's right to choose and what kind of information she most likely does not want to be in the hands of kids like her daughter and future son-in-law bothers me a great deal, it can be argued that that is a personal family matter. It does bother me that she would surely advocate that the entire country follow her family's lead on such matters. Worse, this is a party that repeatedly avow a desire fo government to stay out of our business and personal lives, but has said nothing that I know of concerning taking more than a few ounces of shampoo or shaving cream, or even bottled water onto an airplane, being una fraid that you will secretly be put on a useless watch list or get off it if you suspect such is true, be X-ray searched, not have your electronic doo-dads be confiscated without cause or a warrant at the airport with no guarantee that you will get them back, be wiretapped illegally, be declared an enemy combatant on the prez's whim, or be sure of the right to speak your mind in a public place as long as you are not inciting to
riot or other crime, make sure that basic rights of humans are garanteed, such as habeas corpus, freedom from torture, and all the rest of the mangling of the Constitution we have seen during the Bush-Cheney-Gonzales, et.al. years. This is not to mention that the McCan Palin ticket seems to have a very different idea of middle class from most of us. and the wars and so forth and so on (as a military step-mom I whose stepdaughter has lost friend in Iraq,, I feel somewhat qualified t speak on that issue, even "small things" loke the couple of months one of those private contractors couldn't get any food to her FOB except cranberry sauce. Boy, did we send care packages! I hope for Sarah's son's safety and more than cranberry sauce and MREs to eat). Her speech? Rousing to a certain segment of the population, I guess, but toally lacking in substance. I won't even start with the economy or the family I know with their own teen-age daughter who is pregnant and hardly has the resouces to support her, since she chooses to keep th baby instead of adopting out, and was until recently temporarily homeless, though both parents work and my husband tried to help financially (which we cannot afford: bye-bye stimulus check!). Sure Sarah got 37 million viewers. We knew next to nothing about her, and still don't on the issues. I am not willing to judge her on personal matters, except that parading her daughter in front of the cameras was very bad taste and very political. Dems, get busy. Their supporters do not listen to reason. We have ounumber thm at the polls, period!.

  • Posted By: patmac @ 09/04/2008 2:06:05 PM

Her speech was sarcastic, bitter, and divisive; but most importantly it was utterly empty of any content. (The regressives have nothing to say on the economy!) Despite a journalism degree from idaho (we're talkin' intellect here!), and an ability to lip sync to the words of Bush's speechwriter (with phonetic spellings, no less (new-clear!)), she sounded like a high school student giving a class presentation. It was an embarrassment to this country. (Not to mention that she's a right wing nutcase who believes the world was created 5,000 yrs ago and that the Iraq war was called forth from God!) And now the media just going bonkers over her, merely because she can pronounce words. What a crock. If we American's foolish enough to let her and McCain run our country even deeper into the ground, look around and enjoy a superpower's dying breath. History and the world will laugh at us, with only a small amount of pity.

Obama voted for the bill because IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO GET SOME FUNDING THROUGH FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY IN A REPUBLICAN OWNED CONGRESS AND PRESIDENCY

  • Posted By: captbilly @ 09/04/2008 1:13:34 PM

I can't claim that one party or the other has a perfect record on telling the truth but it would seem as though the Republicans have made the decision to go negative and go for division and fear this election cycle. I suppose when you have a winning strategy you should stick with it, but it does have long term cost for the American people. When Obama says that they isn't a red America and a blue America he really means he wants for there to be only one America. The divisive politics of the past several decades has created a rift in America that will take decades to close again.

As a long time independent voter I have never been impressed with either party's record on trying to make all Americans feel as though they are part of the same America but it does seem as though the past 8 years in particular, especially since the Rove era, have been the most divisive in history. McCain in the past had been a politician who seemed to try and avoid that divisiveness, but now he seems to be going party line and trying to mislead America that voting for Obama would mean that we would be handing America over to the liberal elite. I truely believe that Obama is the one Presidential candidate in a long time who genuinely doesn't want to see America remain a divided country, but Palin is not cut from that cloth. Every comment her speachwriter had her make last night was designed to instill fear (mostly of other kinds of Americans) rather than brotherhood.
