Absolutely! I don't want a cheerleader for VP and I think as a white middle class middle aged married mother, it is important for us to remember that yes, we want a woman in the white house, BUT the RIGHT woman! Sarah Palin looked exciting at first, but after closer review, she is not getting my vote and I am offended at the way the McCain Campaign has literarily dressed her up as a trophy wife, oh, I mean VP.

Well, here is some information on Obama's tax cuts for the middle class. And the tax code will not be thousands of pages long with Obama.

Palin has disgraced her entire family with all her lies. It's sad.

By the way, Biden has an excellent family: Very happy and stable: Dispite the enormous tragedy they have had.

It never ceases to amaze me that philosophers, scholars, and writers in droves write about the current fleecing of our constitution our nation, and of the American middle class.

All the while conservatives continue to flock to right-wing evangelists, tabloid pundits and GOP theology!
After 7 and a half years of GOP subversion what does the nation have to show? An economy in shambles, unfinished wars more on the horizon and debt so enormous China and other foreign countries now own much of our nations remaining equity!

Conservatism is a dismal failure, the proof is in your house equity, your bank accounts, your paycheck, it???s on Wallstreet, its on the shelves of your supermarket, its on the corner gas station, its in Job loss,
on the streets and deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It???s in the defiance of our present GOP leaders by Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela and now China!

And so the same old personal song and dance about character, vision and dignity play out across the nation. Remember this, ???Bush has character, he has vision, he is honest, experienced!??? We all know the truth of this aberration.

We all know conservatives want to plug in the same theology the same ideology from yet another legislator that represents the betrayal, the greed and the duplicity that has buried us to this point!

Great nations are upheld and wars are won or lost by the rightness and decency of the participants!

As our nations history goes we have never lost a war when we were right but now we have lost wars because we were ideologically wrong!
It???s not just about strength its about wisdom and justice.
Such American qualities that have been inactive during the past seven plus years due to conservative politics!
It right in front of you open your eyes and read!

    I'M SHOCKED!!

Barbara Walters got bigger b@11$ then CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, Lou Dobbs, and Glen Beck; MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, and most all of FAUX News!!

    YOU GO GIRL!!

    - - - - - -

In 55-days at least 135 million Americans will make a very important decision. The decision is whether:
    - - (a.) - we reject a Bush 3rd-term of failed economic, domestic, and international disasters, or:
    - - (b.) - do we stop the lobbyist from bleeding us dry and set the nation back on track for the middle-class prosperity.

IT IS A PATHETIC SHAME THAT MAIN STREAM MEDIA 'COWARD' UNDER JOHN McCAIN, KARL ROVE, and the BUSH ADMINISTRATION AT A TIME WHEN THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA ARE STRESSED BY POLICIES THAT McCAIN and BUSH PLOWED THROUGH CONGRESS FOR SIX OF THE LAST EIGHT YEARS.

AT THE LEAST THE MEDIA CAN DO FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IS:
    - - (a.) - INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING OF ALL THAT McCAIN and BUSH ARE TRYING TO HIDE, INCLUDING SARAH PALIN and;
    - - (b.) - MAKE THE McCAIN CAMPAIGN ANSWER THE HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF CRITICAL QUESTIONS RELATED TO REAL ISSUES CONCERNING AMERICANS.

SARAH PALIN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED WITHIN A HEARTBEAT FROM "COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF" WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE SAME PRESS VETTING AS OBAMA AND BIDEN HAS ENDURED!!

MARK PENN IS AN IDIOT FOR TRYING TO PLAY THE REFS BY CLAIMING THE MEDIA IS TO HARD ON SARAH PALIN. PEOPLE DON'T BE BAMBOOZLED BY THIS CR@P!!

(1.) Joe Biden has been on the national political stage for 35-years and has 35-years of vetting.

(2.) John McCain has been on the national political stage for 26-years and has 26-years of vetting.

(3.) Not including his 8-years with Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama has been on the national political stage since his famous DNC convention speech of 2002, and he has been vetted for the pass 6-years.

*** (4.) *** Now Sarah Palin just popped on the national stage 2-weeks ago and she may be a heartbeat beat away from Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful country in the world. SO THE PRESS NEEDS TO FIND A WAY TO CONDENSE THE REQUIRED YEARS OF VETTING INTO 55-DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION!!

SARAH PALIN DOES NOT GET A FREEPASS BECAUSE SHE IS A GIRL!! THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH AT STAKE FOR SARAH TO GET A PASS OVER THE BOYS JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A GIRL. THE CHALLENGES FACING THE U.S. ARE NOT DISCRIMINATORY TO THE GENDER OF THE PRESIDENTS.

DO YOU IDIOTS UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR THE PRESS TO DO THE JOB THAT McCAIN???S HIGH-PAID LOBBYIST DID NOT "EFFECTIVELY" DO??

THINK PEOPLE, THINK!! DON'T BE BAMBOOZLED BY McCAIN'S LOBBYIST, WHO SEE THEIR GRAVY DAYS AS NUMBERED!

FOR THE IDIOTS CLAIMING CHARLIE GIBSON WAS TOO CONDESCENDING IN HIS INTERVIEW WITH SARAH PALAIN . . . . . . DUHH!!

Did you people even see the few snippets that has already been released?!?!?

Sarah Palin did act like a high school child trying to convince an adult that she can pass the University entrance exam. It was not that Charlie Gibson was condescending , , , , it was Sarah's eager child like eyes trying to determine whether she passed ABC's "Press Test"!!

    THINK PEOPLE, THINK!!

JOHN McCAIN IS GAMBLING WITH THE UNITED STATES FUTURE JUST TO WIN AN ELECTION!!

Sarah Palin is a mom of 5, a soon to be grandmother, and loves to hunt. She is the Governor of a state of 600,000 and was the Mayor of a town of 6000. She hired a lobbyist to bring in earmarks over 28 million dollars, and as Governor has requested more earmarks than any other state per ca pita.

She is tough. When the news media keeps telling everyone that she did not sell the state jet on ebay, or that she was not always against the bridge to nowhere, she sticks to her scripts. In the face of truth, she is able to repeat her stomp speech and not change a thing. Not many politicians can say that.

She stood up to Charlie Gibson in her interview and said, "Yes, I am ready to be president." She is ready. How many people can say they are ready to be president. Why do the liberals want to ask her questions about her past or what she believes in? This is not fair. She has a right to be VP without explaining herself.

She also stated that she did not blink when McCain asked her to be VP. This is proof that she is a patriot. She will take on Russia, and go to war if necessary to protect our great US of A. She is ready to be VP and even President.

McCain knew it after meeting with her twice that she was his soul mate. McCain's gut told him- now that is the kind of guy that I want leading the country. A man that tosses reason and logic out of the window and goes with his gut. Unlike that wimp Obama; who want to talk or use diplomacy first.

Proven by all of the things I have listed. Who cares about The Bush Doctrine? She is a mother of 5, not a baby killer. She looks like the girl next door, and has a comprehensive energy plan that includes only drilling. She will not drill in Indiana, Ohio or Michigan, but there will be lots of jobs in Alaska- Americas Last Frontier.

I'm a woman. Well educated, successful, divorced and putting one child through college and raising a teenager at home. I'm a little disturbed at the news I'm reading about, regarding women voters flocking to Palin because she's a woman. Why alone would that be the determining factor. Is our sex so irrational as to make these accounts true? When I interview a potential candidate for a job, I don???t just hire someone because they are a woman. I look at their credentials, experience, personality and back ground in order to make an intelligent decision on whether or not to hire them. Why would voting for one of the most important positions in our U.S. Government be any different?
I want to know facts. Who is this person, what is their back ground, experience, credentials and how they stand on the issues, of our country, that are important to me and the future of my children and the future of the U.S. Yes, I would have loved to seen a woman in our top office, but I would hold her to the same standards I would hold any potential candidate that I plan to vote for. My vote is too precious and I wouldn???t waste in on anything, so trivial, as a gender preference. I would pray that most of my sex would do exactly the same.

I agree a 100%. Although I am not an Obama supporter (my name says it all), I will be voting for him this election. Sarah Palin is an insult to women in history who have fought for reproductive and civil rights, as well as the women who now benefit from their victories.

It seems to me, given her off-the-charts approval ratings, that Sarah Palin has been an extraordinarily competent mayor and governor. Thus, I'm willing to risk promoting her to national office -- particularly in comparison to Barack Obama who only seems to be extraordinarily competent at self promotion.

      • Posted By: R. Lucas @ 09/05/2008 11:05:20 AM

Off the charts approval ratings? By whom, the Republicans. Can she attract the people who are still undecided? So far, she has not convinced me.

        • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/05/2008 11:43:33 AM

She was re-elected with over 80% of the vote in Wasilla. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska tops 80%. She's obviously doing what the vast majority of her constituents want her to do. I'm willing to take a risk on her for national office.

What I would love to see Palin do is to get rid of EVERY SINGLE button that has the "Hottest VP from the coolest state" saying on it. I think that is extremely sexist and it was her own party that made them. Aren't the stakes too high for "cutsy" sexist statements on everyone's chest?

    • Posted By: DemInDenver @ 09/05/2008 3:54:54 PM

Clearly you have not done your research. He was divorced for one month before he married Cindy.
Except for signing the property settlement, Carol did not participate in the divorce. A court summons and other paperwork sent to her during the proceeding went unanswered.

In April 1980, the judge entered a default judgment and declared the marriage dissolved.

A month later, McCain married Cindy in Phoenix, where the couple would move. The wedding party included a couple of McCain's high-profile friends from Washington. Sen. William Cohen was the best man. Sen. Gary Hart was a groomsman.

If we are going to DEMAND the truth from our politicians, and we should, we need to not fall into the same gutter that most of them go to. Let's stop the nasty rumors just to make either side look better. Let's stop stretching the truth to make either side look better. Let's demand more from ourselves, the media and politicians. I AM VERY VERY WORRIED ABOUT THIS NOMINATION BECAUSE I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE TACTICS THAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE DOING. IF SHE IS GOING FOR VICE PRESIDENT SHE HAS TO PUT HERSELF OUT THERE. IF SHE IS SO GREAT AND BRILLIANT THEN WHY DOESN'T SHE DO INTERVIEWS THE PEOPLE WANT TO LEARN STUFF ABOUT HER INSTEAD OF THE SAME OLD SPEECH. SHE HAS BEEN SAYING FOR TWO WEEKS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DOESN'T WANT TO TALK TO THE PUBLIC ON TV? DOE SSHE HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE OR THE PARTY KNOWS THAT IF SHE IS ASKED A QUESTION SHE WON'T BE READY? ANOTHER THING THAT I WAS REALLY MAD AT WAS AT THE REPUBLICAN COVENTION HOW THEY EXPLOITED THE 911 ATTACKS AND USED IT TO SCARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR THEM. I WAS DISGUSTED.

  • Posted By: paulte @ 09/09/2008 12:43:04 PM

I'm happy to see that Palin has brought enthusiasm to the Republican ticket. I'm also glad that she is pro-life and conservative but I don't think she is presidential material by a long shot. Hopefully, McCain will last out his term and then who knows what will happen. I see McCain as a bad-aid to patch over a bad time in political history and save us all from Democratic control of the whole government. The spectre of an Obama - Pelosi axis is too frightening to contemplate!

Will we be back to the drawing board with Obama & Hillary duke-ing it out again? Or will these two be ancient history with the diversity card played out by a successful vp win by a woman?

Although I hope the Republican ticket wins and I think it will with Palin on it, I have my reservations about her. Besides her lack of experience for the position, there are questions about her mothering role. Do women really successfully combine family and career? I think the evidence is that they don't and that the society suffers in consequence. Although Christian Evangelicals are jumping on the Palin bandwagon, other conservatives like traditional Catholics are not so enthusiastic about women who place careers above family. What kind of message does this send the nation? What kind of mother would be willing to expose her daughter's plight to the world just so she could advance her career? Palin's brand of Christianity is not to my liking.

I think McCain made a strategic choice in picking Palin, not a specifically diversity pick in choosing her. And in the final analysis the alternative of Obama & Biden two ardent pro-choicers are far worse than the two evils of McCain & Palin.

Women have been working outside and inside the home for many many years now. I just am astounded that Republican's are just now celebrating our flexability, skills, and talents that enable us to do both. As a woman I am not at all impressed with Palin. Her accomplishments are no greater than any working woman in this country with children and a family. She's actually lucky that she also has a husband and most likely instant baby sitters to help. Hockey mom??? Who cares!!!
I just cannot believe how many people in this country are falling for McCains lies and attempts for sympathy for past suffering. He is just such an obvious opportunist who's primary goal is to hold the title of President. And has this country forgotten about the war and economy!!!? Don't vote another Bush into office. We simply cannot afford another four years of nothing. It is so obvious that McCain is setting up a daddy and mommy office just for show. Obama is honest and sincere and speaks the truth - his changes will make the difference.

    1) To me, all forms of abortion (barring partial birth) should be available to any female who wants one, for any reason. Rape, incest, life of the mother, severe genetic defect... these go without saying. As for the other? If you want to self-select for eugenics, that's your lookout. Who am I to argue? If you're so devoid of natural feeling that you can lay there and pass the time of day while your normally conceived, healthy, unborn child is murdered... frankly, you SHOULDN'T be breeding anyway!

    2) As the fiasco with Bristol Palin clearly demonstrates, Sarah Palin can't even provide adequate leadership in her own family. Do we really need to put her one spot away from leading the nation? (I can hear some of you now... 'sometimes kids just make mistakes', 'maybe she tried, but it didn't help', etc. As far as I'm concerned, you can save your crappy excuses for someone who is so inured to irresponsibility that they'll buy it. Maybe you should try some druggies... they're so used to giving and hearing crappy excuses that they'll probably believe you. Me, I know better.)

    3) Not having her Downs child aborted only serves to demonstrate that she can't distinguish the "correct but painful" choice from the "incorrect but feel-good" choice. Because she couldn't step up to the plate and do the right thing, a soul has been condemned to struggle with unresponsive biological hardware for decades, imprisoned in defective flesh that doesn't work properly. The remainder of her children will not receive anywhere near the amount of love and attention they need, because the Downs child will require such extremes of care that there will be very little left for the others. On top of that, Downs children almost never grow up to be a contributing member of society. Sarah Palin made a bad judgment call, not John Q. Taxpayer... but in the end John Q. Taxpayer will *still* get stuck with the bill. What an immoral decision!

--Yet another woman for Obama/Biden in 08.

Clearly, you are delusional. Where do I begin? Please, please, please say you are not actually a mother. If you are, and your child suffered minor brain damage from an accident, would you want them destroyed rather than be "condemned to struggle?" I can only imagine the hurt that someone as immoral as you can cause to families with disabled children. I wonder how B.O. would respond to the question, "Should all babies determined to have Down's Syndrome be aborted prenatally?" You are a sad, small person who SHOULD know better. Have a little humanity.

      • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/09/2008 4:06:48 AM

A responsible parent does not deliberately drive a car into an accident so that their baby suffers a brain injury. .

A responsible parent in her 40s does not deliberately roll the genetic dice rather than 'abstain or practice 'safe sex' during her fertile days for the sake of her baby's health.

I have tried to muster up some compassion for you, but the very best I can do is pity. You're writing at 4 in the morning, so I'm willing to bet you're not a mother. You have no idea what unconditional love is. Apparently your parents dropped the ball. My husband and I consciously decided to have another child when I was 40. We have the means and we have the love to give. I researched the stats and found that the chances for my giving birth at age 41 to a Downs baby was 1 in 85. That means that 84 'healthy' babies are born for every 1 Downs baby. We decided those were great odds. Our child is healthy and happy and loved beyond all reason. So don't talk to me about 'rolling the genetic dice.' When you insinuate that babies with Downs are not welcome in society, you are espousing (look it up...) the reasoning of -- oh, what's his name? -- Adolph Hitler. Heard of him? He wanted a perfected human race, none of those pesky less-than-perfect individuals running around. Is that really what you're trying to project? My heart aches for you. I truly hope that someday you do experience unconditional love. Maybe then you can have some compassion for those people in society who you deem 'not perfect enough.'

A 1 in 85 risk of a Down Syndrome baby is a huge roll of the genetic dice.

If the choice is sexual pleasure or a disabled baby, don't blame God for a heartless choice.

Invoking 'Hitler' to support your morally threadbare position is ludicrous.

            And 4 a.m. Newsweek time isn't 4 a.m. all over the country.

            • Posted By: lifeisbeautifultoday @ 09/10/2008 3:55:52 PM

1 in 85... AGAIN I say that means 84 babies are born WITHOUT Downs and only 1 is. I'd take those odds any day. Anyone at any age could give birth to a Down's baby, so I guess in your view NO ONE should have sex lest a less than perfect baby result.

As for your second comment, sexual pleasure!!??? Our baby was planned for... I explicitly said we TRIED to have a baby... sexual pleasure was just a pleasant byproduct (I'm guessing you don't know much about that, though). Where did I say I blame God for anything in my life? I know God is loving and just. I've been incredibly blessed and take responsibility for the choices I make.

"Morally threadbare??" Of the two of us, my morals are superior by a longshot! YOU ACTUALLY ADVOCATE KILLING BABIES! Have you actually seen pictures of aborted babies? Google it, if you have the stomach.

Finally are you even familiar with Hitler's beliefs? Your assertion that less than genetically perfect individuals aren't worthy of living is EXACTLY what he believed, so don't kid yourself into thinking you're on moral high ground.

You are a hypocrite to be pro-abortion after YOU"VE already been born.

Don't worry, when the time is right I'll teach children that the world is full of cruel and narrow-minded individuals like yourself who don't have a leg to stand on.

I hope you check back here later today. I have plenty to say to you, but I have responsibilities to fulfill at the moment and don't have time to tell you the depth of my pity for you.

Suffered minor brain damage from an accident? Since the child would have enjoyed heath and a good foundation prior to the minor brain damage, he'd have at least as good a chance as any other child (and probably better) of learning to compensate for lost function. I've got plenty of humanity, but it's on the order of "the greatest good for the greatest number", rather than "the many get screwed in favor of the few".

this post makes me belave that some people should get the same treatment as a dog as comments like this show some people should not bread

You had me then you lost me... This isn't what being a dem is about.. If you could please clear up what sounds like hate speach to me so I can better understand your point of view..

      • Posted By: Elistra @ 09/05/2008 5:56:26 PM

The reason why I'm a Democrat is because I believe in the greatest good for the greatest number. For example, I see no reason why the majority of the nation (ordinary working Americans) should have to do without because relatively small group of fat cats (who already have more money than they know what to do with) cannot contain their greed. It's not because I'm a particularly touchy-feely kind of person. (As you've probably realized by this point, I'm not.)

I'm not here to cheer for the far left fringe, pat myself on the back for being so "tolerant" and then go down to the coffee shop to brag about it to my pseudointellectual friends.

I'm here because I care about normal, everyday people -- who are the bedrock and strength of this nation, and because the Democratic party is the only hope they have left.

I guess where I got lost was how it sounded like you would perfer someone to make a choice based on convience, if they make that choice there are certain respondsibilities that come with it but if for some reason they needed help I don't think turning your back on them cause of money or something like that makes a bit of sense, rather be there to help and hope that help is carried on but not expect anything out of it other then just trying to help another human out. This sounds all liberal I guess but that is what being a dem to me is about. I understand people are going to take advantage of that situation more times then I would like but I don't give up. I have hope for change. Maybe I am wrong but it sure is interesting to hear your point of view! Thanks!!

I was VERY offended by Palin's comments about "I guess a community organizer is something like a small town mayor,...."
I thought her sarcasm was offensive. A community organizer is someone of voluntarily helps and contributes to America from the grass roots up. How could that ever be a bad thing. For Palin to make light of community organizers was disgusting and and is a CLEAR indication that she is NOT America's next sweetheart and reveals a hypocritical DARK spirit. How can I trust her to help put America on the right track, when she is disrespecting the VERY PEOPLE who make contributions voluntarily out of their LOVE of country?

    • Posted By: somebunny @ 09/05/2008 9:04:40 AM

Good! I don't want a "sweetheart". I want someone who can be tough on the issues, and call out their opponents. Whether you agree with her politics or not...she is living out the American dream - work hard and you will succeed! Most politicians come from wealthy families or are groomed for their roles for political purposes. She went to a regular college and was a regular mother with a regular husband and decided to take a leadership role at her PTA, which led to running for city councel. She succeeded which led to mayor and then governor and now the VP candidate. That is what I call a role model!

I know that you may argue that she is being used for political purposes, but she has been one of the most succesful and recognized governors in present time. This very magazine, Newsweek, wrote an article praising her in 2007. Oh what short memories we have!

      • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/10/2008 11:28:26 AM

We need to give credit to Gov. Spitzer of New York - he was also big on 'reform.'

    • Posted By: SEA Observer @ 09/05/2008 8:51:16 AM

Let me explain for you: The Obama campaign was making her experience (small town mayor) an issue. So her reply is: "how's a community organizer" more experience??? that's the gist of it. Take your blinder off and try to understand things in their context.

      • Posted By: Rose Black @ 09/05/2008 9:22:17 AM

I think you are forgetting that McCain's campaign presented Sarah Palin with statements about how much more "executive experience" she had than Obama and if anyone believes this slant, then one can say that she has more executive experience than McCain as well! Anjd my personal favorite. And my personal favorit, in order to take away the issue of foreign policy experience, which again was the McCain platform, the said she was the Commander in Chief of the National Guard. Give me a break! There have been so many spins coming out of the Republican Party, that I'm getting dizzy!!! At the start of this presidential race, McCain said that foreign policy experience was the most important thing!! This women has absolutely no experience or knowledge in this area. She had the spend the first week after being introduced to the public being coached and tutuored on economic and foreign policy issues and can't even write the majority of her own speech, which didn't help their cause because it did sound like more of the same Bush tactics. If you don't have any specific plans or ideas that you think will sell, tear down the other opponent that way the spotlight won't be on you.

Well as an unemployed woman dealing with an increasing lose of jobs and rising unemployment, I am tired of the smoke and mirrors along with the sleight of hand tricks that the Republicans have been dealing the American Public.

I'm amazed anyone with any sense would still vote for these people after 8 years of their ridulously bad leadership and management of this country. Please wakeup and do what's right for your families or at least for the future generations here before it's too late!

      • Posted By: fsuttonnc @ 09/05/2008 8:55:34 AM

If you were offended by that comment, here is another one for you.Ms. Palin has more executive experience than all the candidates combined. She has already been commander-in-chief of the National Guard, she has already had to balance a multi-billion dollar budget, she has already had to make decisions that affect others lives, she has already had the power of veto to stop useless spending. And Barrack, he was a community otganizer and in a Senate where he couldn't make up his mind so he just poted present.

  • Posted By: R. Lucas @ 09/05/2008 10:17:38 AM

I don't want anything from her except her withdrawal from the race. She is an embarrassment and a flake. At least McCain could have chosen a woman who could balance her personal life and a work life. It's not that hard, its call priorities and common sense!

    • Posted By: japs123 @ 09/05/2008 6:31:59 PM

and how do you know she's not able to balance personal life and work life???

      • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/10/2008 11:23:47 AM

Because there are only 24 hours in a day.

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/05/2008 10:41:36 AM

Are you one of those who wanted Hillary to withdraw too? Where do people get off suggesting that female candidates should withdraw from the race? How would you feel if I suggest that you withdraw from this blog?

      • Posted By: R. Lucas @ 09/05/2008 10:55:23 AM

Just to clarify, I am not one of "those" who wanted Hillary to withdraw. I have been a Hillary supporter since 1982. I am considered a feminist, mother, wife, and business owner. I praise women who succeed in "the old boys club." But, I also want the women to lead my kind to be competent!!

        • Posted By: valark @ 09/05/2008 12:01:37 PM

          How is Palin not competent?

          • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/09/2008 4:58:18 AM

Palin is a competent liar and hypocrite.
