........................I have heard enough about Sarah Palin to see that she has used her looks and charm to advance in politics but I do not think she is has been outstanding in office or there would be little in the way of negatives that have surfaced instead of all of this controversy. I think that there are many, many women available to step up to higher positions in public life and that Barak Obama will find plenty of good ladies to take office and watch out for the interests of both women and men.....we are approaching an era in this Country where we can be proud again about what is happening in America.

  • Posted By: Dabney Bixel @ 09/05/2008 3:10:36 PM

As a women business owner and executive I was embarressed by Sarah Palin's speech. Instead of making women proud she was sarcastic, negative, and what a hypocrite!! To compare herself to Hillary Clinton is a true joke. The Republican party is at a very sad juncture and grasping at straws, hopefully American women will not fall for the sham.

    • Posted By: valark @ 09/05/2008 3:34:27 PM

Because you own a business you are an executive? And you speak for all women? What is the name of your business? Its a public company right? So you wouldn't mind me asking, right? Since you are going to speak for me, I would like to find some time in your schedule to talk to you about your lack of coherent sentences.

Take your last sentence for example: ???The Republican Party is at a very sad juncture and grasping at straws, hopefully American women will not fall for the sham.??? What sham is it that you hope we don???t fall for? Because your sentence basically says that the sad juncture and grasping at straws is the sham that we should hopefully not fall for at this time.

Basically, if you are going to speak for me, can you please either have your supposed executive assistant type for you while you dictate so there is at least a junior college level of skill displayed?

Anyway, I would like to say, I have no idea why people like you come here and lie about who you are. It???s like cheating at solitaire. No one cares if you do, but you don???t get any satisfaction either. Next, you don???t have to be educated to have a valid point or opinion. You don???t have to be an executive AND a business owner???most liars would be satisfied with being one or the other and even a liar can have a valid point. The truth, when said, is true no matter who says it and their socioeconomic standing in society.

Please get well soon???the self-loathing has got to be wearing you down by now.

        Valark,
People in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones. Your writing is not exactly textbook perfect either. Sometimes when people are affected emotionally by a subject, they might not worry so much about being completely perfect, grammatically speaking. Obviously, the only emotion you are capable of feeling is disdain for others who may not completely agree with you. Where did you receive your education, by the way? The University of Cynicism and Criticism?

      • Posted By: sherrybb @ 09/05/2008 5:36:06 PM

valark, your sarcasm fits right in. You spent your entire time putting down the writer and did not say one thing about your views. What was your point???

I am single. Who will pay for my childcare? News flash-I am all about helping folks temporarily. I am tired of folks demanding gov. raises their kids. Yu have to decide whether you can realistically afford children. I am shocked at the sense of entitlement so many of my fellow females have. I was a single working mom but made too much to qualify for childcare aid. I made eight bucks an hour. So, I took care of myself when I made the choice to raise my kid on my own. Governemtn has got to stop being looked at as a permantent cash cow-gov. does not use its own money to fund welfare=it uses taxpayers of your hardworking neighbors.

    • Posted By: neppy @ 09/05/2008 5:11:37 PM

Please don't forget is was the Bill Clinton admin who implemented the successfull Welfare to work program. Something I recently dicovered. Clinton wanted to stop welfare beni's from increasinf for more kid's born but the REPUBLICANTS were afaraid that this would cause more abortions so they got it shot down in congress. How's that, they are to intent on their obsession with the wombs of strangers they passed on a chance to keep the 'dole' down to a minimum.

This is hysterical. The Democrats thought McCain was going to pull Mitt Romney up from the ashes of manic depression, but they were wrong. Even though you could guess Obama's predictable 3am Biden appointment, McCain made a wise choice and stole this race in one day. You Obama/Biden people should be glad that this Palin stuff is diverting the focus from Biden to Palin...however, there will be enough time to revisit him and his lack of skill or ethics. Obama is out of charm, Biden is a liar and they have to dodge and hide...its great fun, no wonder you Democrats are crying about anything you can think of...even if its no one's responsibility but your own. Only a Democrat would blame being poor on the Government and expect them to bail people out and make them middle class.

    • Posted By: hopeforbetter @ 09/05/2008 4:27:32 PM

Valark, be careful about your use of the term "liar." There are numerous examples of the same behavior from the Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates. While I do not advocate liars on either side of the fence, one must be careful not to sling mud for it can only result in you getting dirty, too!

do you remember at the speech Palin said Thanks , but no thanks to bridge to nowhere? well your So called Second Coming left out some details. So i am here to post them for you. :) you can thank me later. http://www.reuters.com/article/vcCandidateFeed7/idUSN3125537020080901

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere."

In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

The bridge, a span from the city to Gravina Island, home to only a few dozen people, secured a $223 million earmark in 2005. The pricey designation raised a furor and critics, including McCain, used the bridge as an example of wasteful federal spending on politicians' pet projects.

When she was running for governor in 2006, Palin said she was insulted by the term "bridge to nowhere," according to Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein, a Democrat, and Mike Elerding, a Republican who was Palin's campaign coordinator in the southeast Alaska city.

"People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I'm for this' ... and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly she starts using the very term that she said was insulting," Weinstein said.

Last year, Palin announced she was stopping state work on the controversial project, earning her admirers from earmark critics and budget hawks from around the nation. The move also thrust her into the spotlight as a reform-minded newcomer.

The state, however, never gave back any of the money that was originally earmarked for the Gravina Island bridge, said Weinstein and Elerding.

In fact, the Palin administration has spent "tens of millions of dollars" in federal funds to start building a road on Gravina Island that is supposed to link up to the yet-to-be-built bridge, Weinstein said.

"She said 'thanks but no thanks,' but they kept the money," said Elerding about her applause line

VALARK: YOU KNOW WHY MCCAIN PICKED PALIN. NOT FOR HER EXPERIENCE. THE ONLY REASON WHY WE ARE POOR IS BECAUSE OF GEORGE BUSH .PALIN PLEASE SHE DOES NOT HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE THAN BIDEN ON ANYTHING. HEY GUESS WHAT WITH ALL THE SO CALLED EXCITEMENT WITH THE PALIN MCCAIN TICKET. OBAMA IS UP 53% TO 40% IN IOWA AND 50 % TO 42% IN MINNESOTA OW AND HE HAS 50% AND MCCAIN HAS 42% IN THE NATIONAL POLL WAY TO GO MCCAIN AND POLIN NO MOVEMENT. PALIN AND MCCAIN DID NOT TELL HOW THEY WILL HELP THE MIDDLE CLASS AT ALL ONLY HOW THEY WILL HELP THE REPUBLICAN PARTY GET RICHER. OH AND I SEE THAT AT THE CONVENTION PALIN AND MCCAIN DID NOT INVITE THE MIDDLE CLASS., BUT OBAMA MADE SURE THAT HE INVITED ALL PEOPLE TO HIS NOMINAGTION. IF OYU WERE RICH OR POOR. YOU DIDN'T HAVE TOHAVE A SPECIAL VIP CARD TO GET IN \. HE LET 85,000 PEOPLE COME AND CELEBRATE. MCCAIN DID NOT STEAL THE RACE. HOW? HE DID NOT TALK ABOUT ANYTHING, TO ME BUSINESS AS USUSAL. IT WILL FADE OUT. I AM SO GLAD THAT THE RE[UBLICANS HAD TO GO THIS FAR TO TRY TO TRUMP OBAMA. IT SHOWS THE DESPARATION.

  • Posted By: luckylarry @ 09/05/2008 3:39:56 PM

It appears that the Democrats are using the old trick of "If you say it enough people will believe it, well most people have caught up to this cheap tactic. They will try to tie McCain to Bush as this is their only chance of winning, how desparate are they? McCain has always been his own man and quite often has been in disagreement with Bush. Barrick Hussein Obama's constant reference is no better than an USED car salesman or magic potion salesman. Pure baloney from Obama.

    • Posted By: sherry31 @ 09/05/2008 4:01:43 PM

HEY LUCKY LARRY IT ALSO SEEMSW LIKE THE REPUBLICANS ARE UP THE THE SAME OLD TRICKS JOKING AND MOCKING NO REAL PLANS. WE HAVE LOST 600,000 JOBS IN FOUR YEARS UNDER BUSH AND MCCCAIN DON'T FORGET THAT MCCAIN AGREED WITH BUSH MOST OF THE TIME 90% AND HE WORKED ALONGSIDE GOOD OLD BUSH!

    • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/05/2008 3:47:14 PM

A man who agreed with Bush 90% of the time is not his own man and is not a "maveric". He gave up that title 8 years ago when he started towing the Republican line. I would have voted for him 8 years ago but not now.

So whats wrong with blonging to PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals)? Some off beat folks only eat vegetables and would not or cannot defend our country. Merle Haggard said it best when referring to the liberals "How long could we count on being free if we depended on them? Palin is the main stream.

I have to admit that when I heard that John McCain had selected a woman as his Vice President I cringed and thought what are you doing? Well I tuned in to the RNC with currosity of this pick (I refeuse to acknoledge opinions from the media as they are nothing more than stinking liberals) She absolutely iimpressed me and by the end of her soon to be historic speech had me wondering why she had not run for President. I have complete faith in her abilities to lead this country.

If you think GWB was a red neck, Palin is a redneck on steroid. At least GWB can see no on some issues to the GOP Politburo. Palin is just a bobble head for Dobson, Limbo, Delay ..etc. We don't need another redneck in the white house. McBush thinks many women will relate to Palin, but honestly, how many women at this Forms hunts and kill everything they eat? Where I'm from, we try to coexist with the wildlife and not eat every deer or raccoons that comes into our yard.

  • Posted By: hlmordan @ 09/05/2008 10:20:45 AM

I won't vote for a woman because she has the same parts as me. I won't vote for a woman because she has lived a family lifestyle like millions of other American women. I vote for women who support women and our rights to equal pay, and equal treatment. Palin says her party is for less governmental control, yet she wants to tell this country who is allowed to have abortions, how our children should be educated about sex in schools (abstinence education ONLY), and what is best for the 'safety' of our country. I won't be scared by the words TERRORIST, 9-11, and AL-QUAEDA. This election is not about scare tactics, Bush has exhausted that method the past eight years. I hope women out there like me look at where Palin stands on the issues that matter to women, not just the fact that she has a family.

The GOP finished the convention with ONLY one message:
    WE HAVE NO MESSAGE.
MAERICANS YOU KNOW WHO MCCAIN IS: More of the Same,
LOOK AT THE SEXCAPADE FAMILY, and DECIDE.

    • Posted By: valark @ 09/05/2008 3:22:01 PM

I think the GOP message was very clear. Did you actually watch the convention or listen to it on radio? If so, why would you say there was no message?

It breaks my heart to hear that women are questioning her ability to be a good mother and a good public servant. As a 26 year old married woman with no kids yet, I want to believe that I can succeed in my professional life without being considered a failure to my family. I am truly horrified that this need to do well and strive for your personal best in the work place makes you an unfit or unworthy mother. Shouldn't we teach our children (especially our daughters) that they are not limited. That being proud of their abilities should not make them ashamed of their ambition. I understand that giving life is the highest calling in our lives, but isn't it time to expect more from the men in our lives? Why are presidents never questioned about their fathering skills? Because most people are used to fathers who are too caught up in their career to care about family (or at least not devote the time to them that women have traditionally devoted)? Why do we expect and accept this? And why oh why would we perpetuate this for future generations? It is time to quit expecting less from our mothers and daughters and ask for more from all of human kind. We should all be held accountable for the state of our family. And we should all be able to chase our dreams. Please...I am trying to have a little faith in my future, much less that of my sons and daughters. erinoeste@hotmail.com

While I agree with your sentiments, its not that easy. I am a mother of two boys and have an extremely supportive husband, however balancing work and my boys can be difficult. I have an MBA and decided not to pursue a high-pressure career so I can ensure I am there for my boys without guilt. Most women do not have good options - they cannot take their infants to work with them or their sick children with them to the office. They cannot take an hour off early to attend a ball game or ballet practice. They cannot take a day off to go on a field trip - they have to save those for when their children are sick and while I agree that fathers should take up some of the slack, not all fathers can as they are not in a position that allows them to either. While I believe Gov. Palin can be a governor of a state or mayor of a town and still be a good mother, I do not think she can be the VP of this country. It is too complex. She can be one or the other. What is complicating her story is she has an infant who has special needs which should require more of her time than normally would.

      • Posted By: fsuttonnc @ 09/05/2008 3:16:09 PM

Why didn't I hear anyone question how Biden could be a single father to his very small boys after his wife died? They were only 2 and 4....double standard. I think so. I have been an executive now for 30 years and when I started out, my son was only 3. He gained a lot from having a successful mom which made up for any of the short comings that were caused by it. If you want to be a stay at home mom, then stay at home.

I was impressed with the speech delivered by Palin. She fulfilled the role of the VP going into the general election. While some of the women refer to her as a cheerleader it appeared more to me as genuine support for a leader with which she is aligned. She represents the next generation of leadership with skills to balance work and home life. It is amazing when you get by the different approaches of the two parties the basic tenets of a vibrant economy, efficient government, strong national security and world power are what either party is trying to achieve. In the end, no matter who is put in the oval office, America will launch into the future while holding onto the integrity of the past and the current passion for change to make today better.
