Give me a break. So Obama met Kilpatrick once or twice, and had his support (for what it's worth). Obama was right to distance himself from Kilpatrick once the scandal broke (as he did). He was wise to stay out of it, and thankfully, Kilpatrick stayed away from Obama. As far as Kerry in 2004, Kilpatrick did absolutely NOTHING for Kerry in 2004 (wouldn???t wheel and deal with KK), and 40% turned out for him. There was so little enthusiasm for Kerry in the city (except that he was not Bush), it would be impossible for Obama to not get 60% of Detroit. Don't believe a thing these "political consultants" say, their opinions blow with the cash, ???Hold on please, Mr. DeVos is on line 2???.

Governor Granholm did not take this action upon herself, she was asked by Detroit's City Council to conduct the removal hearings, and as Kilpatrick's attorneys delayed all the other hearings, etc., to try and drag it out for sympathy, the dates with the governor remained unchanged. And Kilpatrick could finally see the writing on the wall. It is a new day in Detroit, one we have waited quite sometime for, we can finally live without the cloud of this mess over our heads.

The ads from McCain and the republicans continue to worsen, and with Rove in charge there will be no let-up. The levels to which they stoop will not end. Mr. McCain is in a sad and desperate state. I feel sorry for him, and for what the country will now have to endure as they will use whatever measure possible, hire whatever attack dog necessary to spew their venom across the airwaves.

That's nothing. Barack Hussien Obama Jr. is also friends with William Ayers the guy who tried to blow up the Pentagon before his muslim brothers in Al Quida got the job done.
The fact is Barack was raised in Indonesia from age 5-10 and followed his step-father to mosque for evening prayer. He also had to study the Koran two hours a day at muslim public schools. There wasn't separation of church and state in Indonesia. Obama's mama was an atheist, or agnostic at best, a muslim at worst. Barack was never baptized as a Chirstian until he joined the Daley political machine in his 20s. So fair weather, Barack may claim to be Christian the question is not 'is he' a muslim, but was he a muslim and the press likes to make it seem like he was raised Christian or even raised American. Barack doesn't have American values, that's why he doesn't care to put his hand over his heart when hearing the national anthem, he was not taught to be loyal to the US from childhood. He was raised Indonesian.
Do you want a President tha is eligible for the Kenyan Olympic team?
We also forget that Obama was buddy buddy with Al Sharpton during the Imus scandal.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 09/05/2008 1:04:21 PM

Obama also studied Catholocism every day while he attended Catholic School while in Indonesia, does taht make him a Catholic? NO. Obama was raised for 5 years in Indonesia, he was raised for 13 years in Hawaii. There was and is a separation between Church and State in Indonesia. Indonesia may have the worlds largest Muslim community, but its Government has bean and is secular. Obama's mothe was agnostice, not a Muslim. Obama was baptized in 1988, nine years before entering politics. To say Obama doesn't have "American values" is rediculous at best. There was one picture of him reportidly not putting his hand over his heart when the national anthem was being played, there are other videos of him with his hand over his heart while saying the Pledge and during the playing of the National Anthem. Also, putting your hand over your heart is not required when the national anthem is played, one is only required to stand while it is being played. Obama was raised from the age of 10 by his AMERICAN grandparents. Obama wasn't "buddy buddy" with Al Sharpton during the Imus scandal or at any other time.

First off, liar. William Ayers and Barack Obama knew each other because they served on a board together. Secondly, Ayers was never found guilty of anything (stop getting your news from Sean Hannity). Thirdly, Barack Obama's stepfather was muslim, not he, his mother, or sister were muslim. The school he went to was not a religious school. The law in Indonesia at the time was that the religion of the father (in his case, stepfather, had to be placed on school records. It is no longer required in Indonesia.) His mother was agnostic, so was Barack Obama. It doesn't matter if you're 22 or 92, you can be baptized at any time. Read your bible. You get baptized when you accept Christ into your life. To be Christian means to be "Christ like". That includes not judging or condeming others. (Judge not lest ye be judged.) Also, Super Genius, John McCain was born in Panama. Barack Obama was born in the states.

Sorry. This won't hurt him in Michigan, although I hear it's popular with wingnuts in Tennessee.

Okay - so Obama may have somne issues to deal with stemming from his comments about Kilpatrick. Shall we count the Repeublicans A) forced to resign for hitting on Senate pages; B) forced to resign for ties to crooked uber-lobbyist Jack Abramoff; C) under pressure to resign from the Senate and facing charges for coercing private companies to pay for re-building his Alaskan home; D) arrested and under pressure to resign from the Senate for making sexual advances to an under-cover policemant in an airport men's room? The list goes on and on! Since Sarah Palin has such a good record of cleaning up after fellow Republicans in Alaska, perhpas we really should give in and elect her... to clean up the Republican swamp in Washington.

this is the dumbest waste of energy I have read today. Obama is n more responsible for this man's downfall as your mother is your choice of professional carreer. there must be something else there to write about. for heaven's sake get a life!!!!

People need to know who Obama endorses. He endorses terrorists, racist preacher, and now felonists. We don't need Obama's change that ends in corruption. We need a backbone like McCain and Palin. Someone who will lead us out of this mess not bury us further in it. Less government in schools, jobs, and healthcare!!! Obama wants to raise taxes, depend on foreign nations, more government in schools and work, and is no patriot to our country at all(he won't even pay tribute to our flag by putting his hand over his heart). He wants a world government!! Obama has even said in his speech that he wants to disarm America and talk to nations that hate us(Pearl Harbor sound familiar to you!!). McCain and Palin are going to drill here, which will give us more jobs, stable our economy, and lower gas prices. McCain and Palin are going to make known all those people who don't want to work in Congress and we will vote them out!! McCain and Palin are going to give us less government, which will let us decide where our children go to school, help small businesses, and get rid of all the waste spending that Congress does. If you want to stay poor and in a government that tells YOU what to do, then yes vote for Obama. If you want REAL change that will prosper the USA, not foreign nations, vote for McCain and Palin!!

Just a little insight about me. I was a Democrat until I researched Obama's plans for the future and he changed me into a Republican. I know our history and history will repeat itself if you vote for Obama. We will have another terrorist attack, we will be unarmed to fight off the enemy, we will enter another Cold War. If you don't know our history before you vote, you better read it. Obama does not have the backbone nor the knowledge to bring up the USA and he won't. He wants a one world government. The media and hollywood elite are not going to tell you this. Youtube Obama's speeches. Research him. He will lead us in the wrong direction and I know this and you should to. McCain/Palin for PRESIDENT AND VP O8!!!

republicans and democrats alike have had their share of sexual scandals. when obama was speaking highly of the detroit mayor, he most likely did not know about the mayor's sexual exploits and was speaking only of his service to the community as mayor. both republican and democratic candidates running for office usually distance themselves from the high profile office holders they once supported once they learn of sexual scandal and lies.

Just as I've always said. You don't vote for someone just because he is Black or White. You vote for someone that qualified for the job.We African Americans need to realize that we are a special people and need to reflect the honor and respect that we are raised with.( If you were raised that way).Detroit's Mayor wasn't ready for that job and neither is Obama!

  • Posted By: RealAmerican @ 09/05/2008 10:36:01 AM

This is the dumbest logic ever from Newsweek. What say you of those who voted G.W. Bush in for a second term? Should all of them be held accountable for his failures or should BUSH himself be held accountable. McCain actually endorsed and campaigned for BUSH. Voted with him over 90% of the time so he's significantly has more liability in BUSHES failures. Obama has absolutely no culpability in the decisions Kilpatric has made or his failures as mayor. This logic is beyond dumb.

  • Posted By: Indy Voter @ 09/05/2008 12:40:41 PM

For what it's worth, I agree that it is not an association that should sway voters but I do think it is an interesting observation by Newsweek (that the Detroit mayor's downfall may hurt Obama in the critical state of Michigan). I also agree with those that say the Bush-McCain association may cause his downfall. Indeed, at this point it is the central argument the Democrats are making.

  • Posted By: sairest @ 09/05/2008 12:38:14 PM

That's Kilpatrick and his character has nothing to do with OBAMA's.

  • Posted By: Michiganlover @ 09/05/2008 12:37:54 PM

I find this story insulting and condescending to the residents of Detroit and the people of Michigan. You speak with Kilpatrick supporters that blame the Govenor for forcing the Mayor's hand. She wouldn't have been able to do anything if he hadn't done anything illegal and immoral in the first place. He should have stepped down long ago. Oh wait, he should have never lied, cheated, stolen and murdered, then he could have gone on to become the "great man" he was slated to be. Kilpatrick brings up race, immorality has no race. Did he do what he did because he is black or because he is a poor excuse for a man? You get what you give. I'm not a fan of Granholm's but she did the right thing before he did more damage to the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit. She did what he couldn't seem to do on his own. He and his supporters can all take a slow boat to China. He is in this mess because he has no morals or values, not because he is black.

  • Posted By: granger @ 09/05/2008 12:37:28 PM

What in the world does Barack Obama have to do with Kilpatrick's affair and lying??? I've had plenty of friends (especially when I was in the military) that were unfaithful to their wives and I still considered them a friend to me. This double standard stuff is really getting tiring!

  • Posted By: louiedog789 @ 09/05/2008 12:36:11 PM

I have the same reaction to this I've had to all Obama "scandals" so far... THAT'S IT? That's your complaint? He KNOWS somebody who turned out to be not what he appeared? Obama said some good words about him as mayor, and gave him a man-hug? C'mon, you got to be kidding! Where's the BEEF?

Let???s look at what Obama is ???guilty??? of in these scandals so far:

Rev. Wright: Obama KNOWS somebody who has said some controversial? (Who, by the way, is a Marine??? so you think that would give him a bit of license to criticize the country he served). Ok??? he is the pastor who perform Barak???s wedding??? so I guess he is ASSOCIATED with Wright. But there is no business relationship and no political relationship. But Barak shows ???bad judgment??? for knowing him. Ok.

William Ayers: Obama KNOWS somebody controversial, and was guilty of crimes before Obama was born. No business relationship. No political relationship, other than receiving campaign contributions from him. Hmm??? that seems to be a common failing: not properly vetting your campaign contributors. Name a politician NOT guilty of that. But this is even less of an issue than usual, since this contributor has nothing to directly gain??? no legislation on the table that Obama might consider, no no-bid contracts to be won. Standard operating procedure: donate that man???s campaign contributions to charity. End of story.

Mayor Kwame: Obama KNOWS somebody who turned out to be a scumbag. Not because of any kind of political corruption, but because of a (give us this week our weekly???) SEX SCANDAL. Again, no biz relationship, no political relationship other than that they are both Dems. Oh??? but they???re both black??? so I guess, they must be blood brothers. And the biggest detriment to Obama: it feeds into ???the worst stereotypes that white voters have about black leaders.??? I never thought I???d say this about Newsweek, but WHAT A RACIST ARTICLE THIS IS. Ok, I played the race card. Sue me.

The ONLY scandal I???ve heard so far that might have any meat to it is the Tony Resko thing. At least there is some kind of biz relationship that might need to be examined. In all objectivity, if you???ve got something, bring it forward. At least it MIGHT be a real issue Obama supporters should consider.

Advice to Republicans: forget Wright, Ayers and Kwame. If you want a scandal, go with Resko. But you know what? I???ll go head to head, Resko vs. Palin Troopergate any day! This is not about who Palin KNEW, it???s about what she and her top staff DID: abuse political power for personal retribution. This is shaping up to be another Justice Department Firings / Valerie Plame outing rolled into one. And Palin is shaping up to be another Bush: a figurehead politician dancing on the strings of her political party.

The friends and contacts that Barack Hussien Obama has surrounded himself with most of his life just go to show you his real self and judgement that he has. Friends just like his pastor, and also his terrorist friend has turned up, I wonder who else will turn up. He in no way, should become our President. He is dangerous to our country. There is a saying, "You are who your friends are"

    • Posted By: raddave @ 09/05/2008 12:35:30 PM

If "You are who your friends are" then John Sidney McCain is just as guilty as Obama is. Father-in-law, convicted felon with ties to organized crime. Charles Keating, convicted felon and McCain contributor. Sarah Palin, Gov of Alaska, rumored to have been a member of the Alaska Independance party and recorded a speach for their convention, whose husband was registered as a member of the AIP. Palin, while mayor of Wasilla, Ak, hired Steven Siler, former chief of staff for Sen. Ted Stevens (indicted for falsely reporting gifts). Wasilla received nearly $27 million in earmarks with the help of Sen Stevans. McCain has been the chairman of the International Republican Institute since 1993, a group that funded the 2004 coupe in Haiti that ousted the democratically elected Jean Bertrand Aristid and replaced him with a non elected government. McCain pushed for normalized relations with Vietnam, whose government has committed countless number of human rights violations and killing thousands of its citizens, and even tortured John McCain and other POWs, while they were captives.

I think its about time, that America's citizens all over should stand up and unite for one another. Its is coming increasingly clear that politics has become mearly a career for a certain elite few. that includes Democrats and Republicans. It has come down to who can dig up more garbage on there opponents first,.then blame the entire party for how corrupt they are. Its about time that we demand our elite leaders to shut up. build my roads, keep us safe, and let the people of America decide the future of our coomunities. Detroit is worth rebuilding as of all our cities. we can accomplish anything in America if we just use the citizens power of the veto. What we need is CHANGE in America, and I don't mean it in the sense of Senator Oboma's slogan.I mean it in the sense of change on how to let these bueracrats in politics to understand that they are our servants WE ARE THE FINAL DECISION MAKERS. hold them accountable for all the mess that they alone have caused with all that is wrong with America.
