    Why would anyone criticize Obama for crimes another person committed. He is not responsible for Kilpatrick's criminal actions. No more than Sarah Palin is responsible for her 17 year daughter's decision to have unprotected sex. Obama did not know that Kilpatrick was covering up criminal actions 16 months ago when he made the statement he made about Kwame doing great things for the city of Detroit. It is an outright disgrace when a man is not accountable for his own actions. Obama should not be held responsible for every black males indiscretions, criminal misgivens, comments etc...

This is what is wrong with America, when we cannot see our neighbors for who they are and accept one another as an American. To paraphrase Senator McCain from last night "we have more in common than what divides us, we are All Americans" or even Senator Obama "we are not a nation of red states and blue states, we are the United States of America." Ethics and morals are important, as is judgement. It is truely sad that in this age of information and communication we receive such distorted information and miscommunication. May God help us all.

      Are you saying Obama has endorsed Palin? She has been convicted of nothing illegal!!! If you are a politition and you endorse people you had better look into them and get to know them before you hug them and say how great they are for their community. Whe he endosed him he would have been better to say I have heard great things about this man and if he stays out of trouble he can be great. By purposely being so convinced of the mayer's greatness he has tried to manipulate potential constituents and now as the writer has said those who witnessed Obama's mistake should question his lack of integrity!!!

    This is the dumbest logic ever from Newsweek. What say you of those who voted G.W. Bush in for a second term? Should all of them be held accountable for his failures or should BUSH himself be held accountable. McCain actually endorsed and campaigned for BUSH. Voted with him over 90% of the time so he's significantly has more liability in BUSHES failures. Obama has absolutely no culpability in the decisions Kilpatric has made or his failures as mayor. This logic is beyond dumb.

    Well, here we go again!....Barack Obama should be aware of folks private lifes and thoughts!....why is it necessary to spot light the negative people....what about those positive men/women Obama has come in contact with?....Barack is his OWN man and should NOT be judge by other peoples thoughts and principles!....or the lack of!     Does everything boil down to Republican versus Democrat politics? I could list as many Republican lawbreakers as Democrats. Let's hold individuals accountable for their actions. Does american really want bipartisan reform? Or is it just talk? The last few post seem to suggest the later.

    What's really shameful was that the guy didn't have the decency to step aside, he knew the evidence they had against him. He should've done what Elliot Spitzer did. Make a plea deal and dissappear, by drawing this thing out he has hurt a lot of people and has made himself look pathetic.

Let's also not forget that Michelle Obam,a wrote a college thesis on how she was ashamed to be American. I seriously doubt that either Barack or Michelle could live in a box in Vietnam for 5 years and retun home to derve like McCain. Ethics and Morals are the real issues in all of this mess.

      You cannot make general statements like you did about a certain race and not have people label you as a racist. Why do you even say you doubt Michelle could live in a box for 5 years and not say you doubt Cincy McCain couldn't either? Neither are not running for president. To say whether Obama could or could not survive living like that is irrelevant, because Obama was a child during the Vietnam war. I read Michelle's thesis and she did not say in it she was ashamed to be an American.

Newsweek is just another Hollywood rag that deals in sensualism, not journalism integrity. In five minutes they will print a good story for all you "Obama is God" lovers, so dry your tears.

    At least Democrats are trying to live up to the standard that the law is the law and it applies to everyone. Kilpatrick in Detroit, hopefully Jefferson in Lousianna, criminal conduct should be investigated and if found guilty, punished, irregardless of political affiliation. Obama did absolutely the right thing. I would much rather take a hit in the popularity model than be guilty of hypocrisy. I can't cry out for punishing Republican lawbreakers if I don't equally apply that to Democrats. Ethics reform in our political system is critically necessary. Maybe the spate of lawmakers being convicted for criminal behavior and sent to jail will finally be the clue-by-four upside the head that politicians need to remind them that they are NOT above the law. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

    Guilt by association. McCain has Tom Keating. Obama has Kwame kilpatrick. Where does it stop? They are both good men. Let's all be americans. If race is a factor, god help us. It's 2008 and we are still full of distrust and fear. All people should be judged on their character and not skin color, gender or religion.
