This is yet another example of lazy reporting. Adolph Mongo and Sam Riddle are not at all representative of the thinking of black people in Detroit and the region. I am so tired of seeing references to "many people", "many", "some", etc. This article also reinforces the idea that all Black people are the same. Kwame Kilpatrick is not Barack Obama. That might come as a surprise to reporters, both black and white, who like to link people by race. In addition, because I might agree with someone politically doesn't mean i agree with their personal choices. It doesn't mean i condone cheating on their spouses or lying under oath. I am sure this will not change "pea brained" reporting but I hope it makes people think when they read this drivel!

shstovall09. It you ask this question related to Obama, then you will also need to ask this quesiton related to Palin. Does the indictment of Senator of Alaska Ted Stevens hurt Palin? Surely she knew Stevens and has/have been know to associate with him. I am so sick of this double standard. It seems as if a black man on the other side of the equator mess up it going to reflect, badly, on Obama.

He didn't get it because of his skin color, he got it because of his mommie, just like so many Repubs (or daddy - in the case McBush)

i see there are a lot of haters in here...just because Obama called the mayor a friend at a campain stop. it just means he is a friendly supporter of the Obama presidency. but then if you are a Republican especially for McCain a friend( someone he trusts, someone he knows for a long time) could be someone he met once some time a go in winter you know who i am talking about VP candidate Palin.
if X and Y met once and X trusts Y
and X also met Z several times, dine, work and vote together
      then X must trust Z >Y or X must trust Z >=Y
if thats the case Duke cunningham,Ted stevens Larry craig and Abrahmhoff are like his best friends..and trusts them....

WHY DOES MOHAMMEDVILLE LOVE HUSSEIN SO MUCH??? ANOTHER ENDORSMENT...

Sen. John McCain is "absentminded" and "terrible," while his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, doesn???t have any appropriate experience.

Sen. Barack Obama, by contrast "highly educated" and "eloquent," would serve the world much better and improve America???s overall situation.

And Sen. Joe Biden is a "very respectable" man with a "good reputation."

All this according to an interview broadcast this week on IRANIAN STATE-RUN MEDIA, Aaron Klein, Jerusalem bureau chief for WorldNetDaily, reported September 4, 2008.

    NOBAMA!!!

well, jt just shows you what a nitwit Klein must be, supporting Palin, whose own minister says Israel deserves to be attacked by terrorists because they are not Christian (watch it on Politico.com)

Comment: First of all, sarah palin's daughter's baby daddy is a proud f#$@# redneck just as sarah palin and her family are. Senator Obama has not done or said anything wrong himself. Every politician in washington has associations with many shady characters. Wasn't old man bush in business with Bin ladin? I am sick and tired of people trying to blame everything that every shady character does on Senator Obama. These people are most likely not his personal friends. Senator Obama is a people person and seems to be very friendly but he knows where to draw the line. Senator Obama and Biden are the most decent people we have ever had running for the white house. I wouldn't invite mcCain or palin into my dog house. His whole RNC convention looked like a pack of KKKs. His convention in no way represented the people in America.

WOW. You must be 120 years old and full of vinager. Chill. White people and rednecks are not to bad. They just like to go to school, be happy, and stay out of jail. Some times they like to run for president of the USA, like Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Oh, some like to chase females also, just for fun. Seems their wifes don't mind. No, not so much. Be happy.

First Sarah Palin has openly accepted any investigation because she has done nothing wrong. Second Obama has surrounded himself with several people who are terrorists, racist and just liberal crack pots. It's a trend of bad decisions and bad jusgement on his part. I believe it was Rudy Guiliani who said Biden better get the VP thing in writing. I agree. Obama is too wishy washy.

    • Posted By: ritgar @ 09/07/2008 11:17:52 PM

Bologna - she has accepted an investigation because most of the people who were to testify have now backed out in fear & will need to be Subpoenaed. Oh yes, let's listen to Rudy 9-11, he is the voice of reason! If we are going to call every questionable person a politcian comes across a "friend" the list for McCain will be insurmountable.

Mr. Obama has friends. In a reent speech, Mr. Obama said he would follow Bin Laden to the cave in Afghanistan and get him. Given Mr. Obama's relationships with known felons, perhaps, Mr. Obama really does know which cave Bin Laden lives in. As such, its time to let the military know immediately. Its interesting how many of Obama's key supporers are FELONS, THIEVES< and POOR Mayors.

    • Posted By: ritgar @ 09/07/2008 11:08:17 PM

blah blah known felons. Can you say Keating 5??

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/07/2008 6:58:29 PM

Newsweek at least mentioned this story However their staff thinks as follows:
    1) A 17 year old who is going to marry their boyfriend (Sarah Palin's daughter) is a bigger scandel than Mr. Obama's relationships with felons, failed mayors, etc. I hate to say this - but given his friends - can we trust Mr. Obama's judgement in the White House? I think not.

A politician will use anyone and evryone to adcvance a career. A friend is more then an acquaintance. A friend is someone you know intimately. If womeone is not your friend, DON,T SAY SO.

    • Posted By: josey123 @ 09/07/2008 9:17:23 PM

PUHlease!!! Have you ever lost a friend? Have you ever disagreed with a friend? Has a friend ever done something totally wrong? This idea that all of our acquaintances and even friends has to be flawless is just ridiculous. I happen to live in metro-Detroit and the support for Obama is strong. It's unfortunate that the mayor messed up, but that is no reflection of Obama. Most people have family members that have totally messed up, but that doesn't mean that each family member is guilty by association and they are forever linked because they hare family. People need to get off this self-righteous stump and act like they have a brain and properly/failry interpret information.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/07/2008 7:32:22 PM

The national biased media machine such as Newsweek makes so little of the cant attention relationship between their preferred candidate and known failures such as this mayor For example, Mr. Obama's best firend and financier Rezko, was convicted on 16 of 24 federal counts. A jury found Obama's longtime friend and financier guilty of aiding and abetting bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering???all of which will likely contribute to a lengthy prison sentence.

  • Posted By: underdog @ 09/07/2008 7:09:58 PM

Kwame Kilpatrick is not the only politician out there guilty of some crime. Look at Duke Cunningham , former politician from Ca., now doing federal time. When your surrounded by friends that are politicians you know eventually one of them is going to get caught doing something they are not supposed to be doing. I do not support Obama, nor am I going to vote for him, but I don't hold the actionds of an arrogant and ingnorant mayor against him. It will be interesting to see if, in 5 years , the citizens of Detroit vote him back into public service the way the citizens of Wahington, DC voted Marion Barry back in following his arrest ,conviction, and, incarceration for drug possession. Nothing makes a city look more foolish then re electing a known guilty politician

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/07/2008 6:50:32 PM

Mr. Obama has chosen so many known friends who are now convicted felons, fallen mayors, etc. He has no jugement when it comes to who to align himself with. Mr. Obama has failed to call out the corrupt positions of Nancy Pelosi. Nancy could have held the DRILL -DRILL - DRILL vote (but she first had to invest some stock money) and make all us Americans pay more for GAS for months on end. Shame on him.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/07/2008 6:47:14 PM

Ita amszingly bad judgment by Obama on his choice of firends. One - his $ supporter and also the person who gave him money for his house, is now a convicted felon, serving hard time. Obama made the wonderful Jesse Jackson so mad and so frustrated, we have his famous quote on TV. Obama has failed to wish Mr. Jackson speedy recovery. Now we find another friend dismissed as mayor...

What's going to cause Obama to lose is his ticket not containing a moderate or centrist (Both Obama and Biden are far left liberals--an extremely limited market.
And the DNC's 5-prong discrimination campaign as a singular Americans Suck First campaign. It' s wearing thin! Americans are turned off by discrimination campaigns!
Obama has MORE to worry about than terrorist Bill Ayers and that fraternity of losers who wanted the violence of the wars around the globe to be in the streets of america under the slogans, BRING THE WAR HOME and ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE. And of course the explosions around the country!

Hey you know this just dawned on me. SARAH PALIN is supposed to be some horrible mother because she has a 17 yr old who's pregnant (and still with the father of the child)

Do the DEMOCRATS realize BARACK OBAMA"S mom was pregnant with Obama at the age of 17????

Come on hypocrites, tell me why it's good for Obama's mom and not Palin. Or pass some of that kool aide...

    • Posted By: raddave @ 09/05/2008 5:32:29 PM

Obama was born 4 Aug 1961, his mother's birdate was 29 Nov 1942, so that means it was around her 18th birthday that she got pregnant. It is not hypocritical to point out the hipocrisy of Sarah Palin who advocates an abstainance only sex education and she cannot even get her daughter to follow that. It is also hypocritical when she says that her daughter has "chosen" to keep the baby and marry the father when she wants to deny the "choice" to other pregnant girls.

      • Posted By: Spooky @ 09/06/2008 6:47:23 PM

If you had children you would know that their is a difference between the responsibility of a parent vs the responsibility of a politician. Religious beliefs may influence how Palin raises her children, but separation of state and church should keep her from applying poitical pressure on her daughter just so she does not look bad to the outside observer.
The fact of the matter is that senator Obama has had a few lapses in judgement as have many other politicians. It is how he handles these lapses in judgment that will define his ability to govern within his party

    • Posted By: MsChiTown @ 09/05/2008 4:44:31 PM

Gee maybe because the GOP is always railing about unwed pregnant girls, then parades one on-stage like she's a hero, Palin's been preaching abstinence, but can't make it work in her own house, and Obama has always been upfront about his birth. Guess who the hypocrite is here.

  • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/05/2008 10:55:17 PM

It's too bad this has to happen at a crucial time during the national election. What a tragedy that this mayor of Detroit got himself into trouble. It hardly helps anyone in Detroit who needs it most. Too bad for Detroit, most of all. And if it affects Obama's election to the Presidency, it will too bad for the vast underbelly of this country who most needs an economic boost, some considerable attention to education and opportunities... the GOP, as the neo-Nazi Party this year, is hardly going to care or be interested in helping the underbelly - particularly if it casts them as a bunch of immoral, lazy and crooked people.

So everybody who claims to be a Democrat - Pull Up Your F-g Socks and Don't be doing anything Stupid. It reflects badly on the guy who least deserves a bad rap, and who has the most potential to help the most people get jump-started or back on track into a stronger economic future.

Show these dumb Nazi, pseudo-Religious Bible thumpin' freaks who's boss - it ain't McSame.

No Trouble I have read many of your comments. Initially I enjoyed your responses but then they took on an angry racial under tone. You allowed yourself to be baited into responding to the attacks on Obama in an angry defensive manner too bad.
I am not republican or democrat so I have yet to decide who to vote for in November.
Obama has not impressed me with his tuck tail and run actions when adversity is bestowed upon him.
He does not come across as strong and confident, he comes across as an elitist and an academic snob.
Obama may be so intelligent that he is more like a Savant.

Good reply. We must not forget the Keating Five and John McCain was connected but never convicted.
George Bush's son, Neal was also in trouble so these Republicans should watch what/who they are talking about. Cindy McCain is a crimminal, too - taking and stealing drugs earmarked for the very charaties she boasts about giving money and time to. She's nothing special. She might have had pain but she had plenty of money to buy and find her drugs. She was given special treatment because of her money and the connections of having a Senator for a husband. Even John McCain in his interview with John King on CNN said he should have noticed her problem sooner - what losers.

There is nothing wrong with Obama in regards to the problems in Detroit. Maybe the Republicans or media is making more of the issue because of the color of these men's skin and that is a real problem.
I am sick and tired of the media dragging everything into this race - especially if it concers Senator Obama. John McCain has gotten a free ride long enough.

Typical business, I don't understand why black men elected to offices can't understand that they have to answer to THE PEOPLE.....Just like the fiasco with Jefferson, who had a freezer full of cash, he'd dumbly taken from undercover agents.....Houston had a mayor who spent ALL of his time and ALL of OUR money traveling the world, and accomodating thousands of "friends" at the tax payers expense....THIS is the NORM rather than the exception....Sure makes black elected officials LOOK SCARY...

Maybe they learned it from all the white people doing the same thing?

You're a maggot and a bigot. I swear, if I could get some of the people on here to say these kinds of things in my physical presence, that *** would blow up like the Godfather.

      • Posted By: Spooky @ 09/06/2008 6:11:45 PM

Your response makes black people sound like stupid followers, Are you trying to say that the black politicians can not think for themselves? You have just fallen prey to the what has been said about Obama and his lack of judgement because he is going to follow the "white politicians" example.
        How smart is that?

  • Posted By: sly1171 @ 09/06/2008 6:08:09 AM

You want to talk babysitter metaphors? Fine.
Would you entrust your child to the nanny from the service with the worst reputation in town for mishandling responsibilities or go with the fresh-faced kid who comes highly recommended by your neighbor's and friends?
Frankly, my babysitter's friends backgrounds and proclivities are irrelevant to me. What I care about is the baby-sitter's character and record. I happen to be friends with an alcoholic but I don't drink. Does that make me a bad person? Get a grip!

    • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 09/06/2008 9:54:51 AM

no but if you ever have to call your freind to pick your kids up because you can't is that good judgement ?

      • Posted By: Spooky @ 09/06/2008 6:07:18 PM

Touche, I agree completely, this article is about Obama's judgment.
Any journalist could find poor judgment on any politician. The question is how will that politician handle the controversy? Will he/she distance herself/heimself from his self admitted "friends" like Obama has repeatedly done?
