No more so than McCain's association with Bush and his cronies-same difference. I mean isn't one of Bush's friend/lobbyist (Jack Abramoff) also going to prison?

Actually, if we started listing all the republican officials under indictment/going to jail/in jail as a result of actions in the last four years, we'd run out of space on this blog. And of course, remember that John Mccain got religion on campaign finance reform only after his invovement in the Keating Five scandal; not sure how many people ended up in jail after that one....

very clever metaphor, rbrsol -- or was that a hammerphor? (what's a hammerphor? Knocking some sense into bone-headed conservatives who insist on trying to tar Barack Obama with even the most tenuously connected stories. By the way, Barack Obama did not appoint the mayor of Detroit, just in case you were a tad confused on that....)

The point is we are intrusting him with our country. To appoint qualified and respected people to office.

    An example

If you were deciding on a baby sitter would you

1 Look at the baby sitter down the road that has raised 4 kids and been baby sitting for 12 years with desent results and recomendations all over from people whos kids that she has sitted

    Or

2 Go with the guy down the road who has two friends who are known child porn criminals and one that has ben convited of beating a child but who advocates he cant control his friends and he will love yours. (well he has said hes against it so he must be ok)

Come on now!! what is that? This is what I call "nitpicking" politics. How the he.. does it hurt Obama? Kilpatrick wasn't at the Democratic Convention and hasn't played a major role in Obama/'s campaign, so how does that add up to what has happened to him hurts Obama? give me a break. Kilpatrick got what he deserves and in no way should that come close to affecting Obama and his campaign.

No while should it hurt him. This world is one sided god help us all to live in this place.

What Mr. Barack Obama have to do with the mayor of Detroit. How could a mother put her child out to the dogs to be hurt like Palin. If that can hurt Obama it should go to way's at Palin.

Obama's judgement comes thru again. Obama->no experience-> no judgement= community organizer.

Interesting article. It echoes a conversation I had with a guy from Michigan who follows the politics of that state very closely. I had made some comment about Michigan probably going Obama. He said, don't be so sure. He then explained to me this situation.

What it means is it could throw the polls off. In the end, it's not who gets the most percentage but who gets the most votes that show up. Ohio illustrated that last time. Michigan could illustrate it this time.

Abramoff is the scapegoat for Bush Administration and republican party, another idiot like Tom Delay.

Well the situation in Detroit is the same fate we will all have if Huessien is elected! Truth is Blacks can't rule any city or country! Look at the many cities in the USA and the contenent of Africa! See my point!

I will agree with the fact that "no one has control over the actions of others"

Having said that you should know that no one is prosecuting him for any of his friends actions. No legal actions have been taken against Obama. Nor is he being questioned in court about it.

The fact is while you have no control over what someone has done or is doing you are the only one who controls who your friends are.

This man has repeatedly gathered criminals and low life indeviduals around him. This is a sign of whom he respects and will appoint to major fields as president.

The most telling of a mans charicter is who he associats with who he calls his friends and what actions he's taken when his so called friends get in caught.

Now we not only know that he keeps shady friends but he also turns his back when they are in trouble. Is this a sign of whats to come. Filling his administration with these scum turning his back when trouble arises.

Dont forget we are his friends now but what happens when the U.S. is threatened by another? Does he turn his back on the people of the U.S.?

Comparing the bad judgement of one person with someone else who has worse judgement ( within your value system ) does not change the first person's bad judgement, it just makes it more common. Its a slippery slope where you say something along the lines of "Obama may have made a bad choice here, but so n so made a worse choice at this point in time."

There will always be people who show better judgement and worse judgement at any given point in time. It woiuld be far better to not excuse the bad judgement but to say merely that it was a point in time and that the deeds of another are not our deeds. Outside of a person you rely on everyday, be that family or friends or co-workers, there is really no point in saying the article is crap and then doing exactly what the crappy article does.

I am not even for Obama. However, the concept that he is responsible in some way for the deeds of people who are not in his immediate circle is absurd. Additionally, the only way he would be responsible even if the person was in his daily life is if he knew of the transgressions and chose to ignore them.

Don't make the President responsible for all this extraneous crud, whoever wins. Don't make it so that Obama is responsible for the mayor and McCain should use his intimate time talking over real estate holdings his wife has.

Don't make it about the economy, the President can't control it. Don't make it about your immediate wants and needs, they are at odds with several others who have a vested interest as well. Make it about the things that will help our country progress. Make it about the future, make it so that the legislative officers are the ones responsible for rubber stamping. Make the bar higher, make them rise up to meet it.

OK, clearly this article was written by someone who is spending no time in Michigan. Nobody, not even the local Republicans are linking Kwame with Barack. It fact, the general feeling amongst all parties us that they are just glad it is over. The Kilpatrick fiasco is seen as a local mess and a national embarrassment for the city and region itself. There has been not one wit of a connection with anything nationally, much less the Obama hug. The Kilpatrick mess has not affected at all the efforts by Obama's campaign here and its grass roots organizations to get people organized here. There are many strong Democratic leaders (like the entire UAW for example) who know how to get out the Democratic vote. They did not and do not need Kilpatrick to help this.
Obama will win Michigan the same reasons why this state has gone Democratic for close to 2 decades now, the Kilpatrick affair will be a non-issue. So, please, nationwide rabble-rousers who know nothing about the feelings of people here, please, please, waste your money on ads linking the two because nobody will buy it.

Volunteering time for your party are you? Have fun but I really believe the Silent Majority has a reason to once again speak via this election. You won't hear them trying to convince others because they are working and rasing thier family and things of that nature. They are living as oppossed to getting by. God Bless You but I live through experience and not idle chatter. Have a Good One.

Once again it might come down to who can do the least harm. I believe in moving forward and I just don't see that in Obama. I am looking for it and his economic plan is a theory from a University of Chicago think tank. Mandatory 401's for all employees? Rise in business taxes? Govornment subsidies for individuals instead of job training? I say teach me to fish. Yes, I lost my job earlier this year and am busting my but to stay afloat. I did not sign up for an ARM or use unemployment becuase I am able to work and I, like many people, walk the walk. Obama talks and talks but he has NEVER walked the walk.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/05/2008 11:42:39 PM

Oh I wish I could help you out - that sucks. I myself have been laid off about 5 times during these last 8 years. I have tried to manage temporarily on unemployment but it's not enough and we're TAXED on our unemployment beneifts even, which totally sucks.

Listen, I know it's confusing and McCain has a certain appeal. He's been around a long time and people know him. Plus he was a war hero and it's very tempting to let him win the presidencdy.

But I truly believe that Obama will help this country like Bill Clinton's economic approach helped us out a lot more. During the 1990s, we had a EMPLOYEES' market - employers were VYING for the employees and offering top dollar.

It all went downhill with Bush. I don't mean to knock your beliefs, and I wish you well - but I also wish you could take that leap of faith and while you may not like, or totally "trust" obama, consider him the lesser of two evils and see where a different approach takes us...

He'll have plenty of help from Reagan's and Clinton's economic advisors and I don't think he's too dumb - he won't make things worse, and there's a pretty good chance - I'd say better than 50-50% that he'll make some improvements for us.

      Cheers -- "NoTrouble"

I hope the Obama Administration does find legal grounds to prosecute Bush and Cheney.

They have dragged down their entire party, and I sympathize with the conservative folks who are literally dying for fiscal responsibility.

The country is going downhill fast thanks to the Bush Legacy. Both Bushes, I'm afraid. I think Reagan had the right idea -- tax the RICHest and raise those taxes six times - and Clinton raised them some more -- and we had the best decade in my entire lifespan - the 1990s.

Don't listen to the Republicans - this year in particular they are too influenced by Crooked Bushes, who have their own private interests that conflict with those of the White House. Saudi Arabian oil interests for one - their financial profits from their associations with Saudi Arabia far outweight anything they could earn as sitting Presidents in the White House.

Man, wake up and smell the coffee!!! I'm not blaming McCain, I'm blaming Bushes. McCain is just beholden to them so he's doing everything he can to try and win the White House - he owes them something and they're vindictive. They showed their true colors when they swiftboated McCain in 2000.

Get real, Republicans, and wake up to a smarter day -- just vote for Obama and get rid of this old GOP mantle that is suffocating most of us. You guys can have a chance in 2012 if Obama does badly to oust him good and proper. But give this election up to those who are at least TRYING to do the right thing for the majority.
