I must say it beats Roman columns and an inexperienced presidential candidate (Obama) any day of the week.

OK, Boys and girls ??? It's quiz time!!
Of the last 5 Republican presidents - name which one(s) had budget deficits throughout their terms? (Even when Republicans held congress as well...
And for the bonus round, which one(s) actually left the federal government larger than he/they found it?

    Jeopardy theme music......

Actually the answer to both questions is all of them. So much for Republican promises of small government and fiscal responsibility. Instead of tax and spend we got borrow and spend. Expect more of the same with McCain.
And so,how did we get the money to cover the deficits and increased spending for the ever-larger government? Did we increase revenues and responsibly pay our way? No, we did not. We put it all on the ol' VISA card. Yep, we borrowed a ton of money from our bestest buddies: China and Saudi Arabia, etc. and plan to leave this enormous tab to our kids. And now we get to divert hundreds of billions of dollars a year to our bestest buddies to service the debt. Money that could have spent at home repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure, for example. Remember the Clinton surpluses???

It is so true and sad that US presidential elections has degenerated to bar-room like lambasting of the opponent's character instead of hearing details on fixing the economy, healthcare, social security etc.

It seems to me that this is the new style of politics from the Republicans to stay in power, whatever it takes.

McCain, the change candidate! Tell us, Senator, since you support Bush 95% of the time, which of George W. Bush's policies will you change?

We know it's not tax policy. You want to make the Bush tax cut that helped only the super-rich permanent. 4 more years! [of record deficits and the rich getting richer].

Not health care. Like Bush, you support taxing employer-provided health care benefits. Ouch!

Foreign policy? Nope, no change there, just more saber-rattling bluster. Like Bush, all hat and no cattle.

On education, you echo the same old public-school-bashing Republican party line.

Social Security? You're for Bush's plan to privatize. I'm sure that would work just fine for you and your millionaire buddies, but that't not really the point of Social Security, which was always intended to give hardworking families the possibility of choosing to retire with dignity instead of poverty.

    McCain, the 5% change candidate!

First, the Republicans embrace teen pregnancy. Then in the Cindy McCain biography their love at first site is championed, while he was a married man, of course. So this party of "family values" either ignores their own rants selectively or ignores reality altogether. Whether the party of duplicity or of fantasy, it can hardly be a desirable group to trust with governing.

Enough with the bashing of the children and the wife. . . . but then, that is the guise behind Obama. . . stand up for saying leave the children and wives out of this campaign and then send out his minions to bash them. Does the McCain / Palin threaten you democrats THAT much that you continue to focus on McCain and Palins family members? Me thinks so. Very pathetic.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/06/2008 7:20:39 PM

They dont have to say they are bad. But either way, the end result is the same, very hurtful to the family and their personal life. In case you are not aware, you can raise a child to the best of your ability, instill morals and explain facts and resulting consequences. But guess what. . ? They are their own person and ultimately they will take actions into their own hands even knowing potential consequences. That is just a fact. I do not blame or associate (or judge) Sarah Palin for her daughter being pregnant. She has her beliefs and her daughter chose to go against them. But what is wonderful is that the family as a whole has embraced the daughters chocie to keep her baby .

My father always told me that women bring down democrats. While that isn't admirable, at least when they screw up it is a semi-private matter. I wish Republicans were so kind as to just sleep around, but they favor raw corrupt actions. Break into another party's headquaters, try to change the constitution when it stops the creation of a theocracy, lie us into wars that will cost untold lives and wealth.., and that's without getting into even remotely controversial stuff. Honestly, give me back "Slick Willy" any day; I know he won't ship away my job or get me shot at, and his antics might even make me laugh occasionally.

IT IS HUSSEIN ! THAT DON'T SCARE ME BUT HIS POLICIES DO !!

Thats all you do is say his middle name and it doesn't work. I do know whats working......The fact that Palin use to be a member of the AIP. It has gotten alot of people attention and Joe Biden said he will bring that up.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/06/2008 6:15:37 PM

Yeah, the AIP is working. That is why she has a favorability rating of 58% as of yesterday (rasmussen polls) - which is not only higher than Biden, but even higher than Obama and McCain. Biden better be careful about the AIP talk cuz I can see Obamas pastor, spiritual minister, and friend (like an uncle he says) Reverend Wright rises from the woodwork with a fierce roar. He is playing in dangerous territory.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/06/2008 6:11:30 PM

Have you noticed that Sarah has been referring to McCain as: John S. McCain in her speeches? It is ingenious. Subtle way of making people (who might not already know, although that may be unlikely) to think: Hmmm, I wonder what Obamas middle initial or name is). ; - D

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 09/06/2008 2:11:01 PM

When Palin gave her great speech, factcheck checked out what she claimed she accomplished. She only got one maybe two things correct. Everything else she was wrong. Bridge to nowhere, the gas pipeline and more was all lies. I would love to say Palin loves America.....But when you join a party that wants no part of America and than decide to join the Republican Party later, you have to wonder.

. . . yeah, kinda makes you think about Obamas church, pastor, spiritual mentor, friend (like an uncle to him) Rev. Wright and the 20+ years Obama belonged to that church and listened to angry, racist, anti-America (G*d D*m America. . . land of the KKK) sermons. I have a feeling if the AIP thing keeps up Obamas church and Pastor will be making a visit to the headlines again. Lmao.

John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, at the Republican National Convention sternly declared that the last eight years with the Bush administration have been a failure costing America greatly and that the Republican Party has lost the people???s trust and that we desperately need real change. He now says that he is for change (the Democrats long standing position) and that McCain-Palin is the ticket to shake up Washington. Wow, what is going on here? The real truth that clearly dawns is that there is and has been a Republican strategy, like a sick Karl Rove tactic, that is in play, which is simply bold and confident lying. Say it loud, say it boldly and say it often and it doesn???t need to be the truth. They do it arrogantly and with cocky persistence. I won???t go through the long list, actually an unending list of the Bush administrations lies as anyone can prove it to themselves: take most anything and objectively answer the questions, what was said to sell it?; who would actually greatly benefit?; and what would it cost America and the average American? They belligerently use the tactic in everything including attacking any opponent, taking credit, using excuses, seeking support and, as seen now, in campaigning. We even see it from supporters/volunteers/staff posting on the internet. It has been effective, as John Kerry will attest to. But what about McCain-Palin now being agents for change? Well the reality is??? McCain is still totally dependent on and is aggressively cultivating the support of all the same people and interests who supported and benefited from the Bush-Cheney positions and who really don???t want change. McCain, contrary to what he says, in all of his years in Washington has only given change some talk and no action and as a supposed ???Maverick??? has really just flip-flopped when it personally benefited him. And Palin is obviously just their attack dog, she calls herself ???a pit bull with lipstick???, as she is extreme, aggressive and feisty and simply offers little else, including no diplomacy and only unrelentingly and without conscience attacks on Obama. McCain-Palin misleadingly state that this campaign is about personalities, being their effort to avoid talking about the issues where the change is suppose to take place. There really isn???t much hope for the drastically needed change from them, only more rhetoric aimed to steal the Democrats??? thunder ??? and remember even Bush ran with the promise for change. The lies simply continue to add up in an aggressive effort to disguise more of the same. If we sincerely care about anything, then we have to reject McCain-Palin and elect Obama-Biden as the Republicans just don???t do anything but boldly lie!

I am not understanding the idea that a POW is just so fit for the job of being the next president. I am tired of hearing about John McCain being a POW and how that makes him so fit for the JOB!! There is more to being President than military action. What about the economy? It's nice to have a best military in the whole world, but what about the rest of the country? I'm not waiting for the government to rescue me, but the rest of us deserve a chance to have good paying jobs, and legit job security. People don't care because they don't wake up thinking about how to budget money. Senator McCain doesn't even think about gas prices, but some of us do, and we need a President who understands that and wants to do something about it besides start new drilling! We need someone for the people as a whole, not a select group of poeple.

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE between a Republican and a Democrat is ACCOUNTABILITY AND LOGIC..I think that HUCKABEE hit the nail on the head when he said Democrats are sitting around waiting for somebody to do something for them.....like manna from heaven.....whereas, REPUBLICANS get up from whatever situation they are in....STAND UP and MAKE things happen to better their lives. Democrats have a victim mentality and REPUBLICANS have the "CAN DO" attitude...EVERYBODY had better wake up and realize that NOBODY is gonna GIVE YOU ANYTHING!!!!! IF you can't succeed in this COUNTRY, baby you can't make it anywhere else either...If you have a bought into the idea that Osama is going to deliver you from poverty, debt, or hopelessness....IT"S NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!! Look in the mirror and you'll see the only person who is capable of CHANGING YOUR LIFE.....

You must be in the minority of people who are better off now then they were eight years ago. So if you are great, if not, then why are you rambling how fantastic my life is better off because of the Repulicans over the last eight years. I don't look at Obama as a god, or McCain as my savior either. You want to believe McCain walks on water, so your right with your thinking. If you want to believe that Obama is worst than meeting the devil you are right about that too. You are dogmatic and inflexible about your position, which is your right too. So be it, however, don't give me your dogma as the final word on how people should or should not feel to the left or to the right.

Ghost, You must be taking some great drugs....It hasn't been in such a dire situation UNTIL the Democratic Party took over the Senate......Pelosi and her DRUDGE leading (or lack of) the USA to the point we are..Bush has had a wonderful HISTORY till the demo came in....BY THE WAY, your point was right on que......YOU NAMED EVERY reason why Osama is UNABLE to lead our nation at this pivotal point in history....We have too many internal threats, too many enemies, and too much business to accomplish...WE cannot afford for his to cut his political teeth in the Oval Office..No experience, No international knowledge, well, we'll say except for his concert in Germany......, JUST NO WAY..osama!!!!

    • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 09/07/2008 1:34:02 AM

And so Dems are going to be blaimed when they had a grand one vote majority in the Senate for the inablility to override a presidential veto, love your thinking. And to blame Pelosi as if she is the only person in the House that can override a presidential veto is also moronic. And not to say the Republicans in the House and the Senate showed no flexibility with issues is also being ridiculous. Experience like Bush had showed us what a disaster the WhiteHouse became for the last eight years. If the year was 2000 I would have easily voted for McCain, because at that time he was a "maverick"

Vote your conscience, but stop the experience argument and the argument of the Democratic majority as something that is so powerful beyond belief.

The USA economy is at the back door of the "Great Depression", Iraq and Afghanistan is still a quagmire, there is no foreign policy, there is no real attempt at diplomacy, , and foreclosures are increasing, Fannie Mae and Freddie mac are being bailed out by he taxpayer, and all the mis-administration of the Republicans can do is Spin, Spin, and Spin. Who on the Obama ticket has experience as a CEO, in managing ANYTHING, making decisions on a daily basis about issues pertaining to running a city as Mayor or a Governor? Who has the knowledge to get us out of this econonomic mess? No one on Obamas ticket. But Sarah Palin DOES have this experience with actual specific accomplishments to her name. . .and to balance off the ticket, we have John McCain, a man of character, strenghth and true love for his country. He has been all over the world and has met with and has built personal relationships with leaders of many countries, knows how to command a navy in wartime or not. McCain is known for his bipartisan accomplishments (significant list) over his many years in Washington. In summary, I feel Mccain is better equipped to protect this country from harm and Palin has the background, the knowledge. . and backbone. . to get us out of this economic mess.

McCain has no CEO experience. Palin was a mayor of a village. You could compare her experience as a clan leader.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/06/2008 9:02:02 PM

You obviously have no understanding of John McCain. He was an executive officer in the Navy:

MCCAIN HAS EXPERIENCE AS A COMMANDER . . .A LEADER IN THE NAVY:

In the Spring of 1975 John S. McCain was given an opportunity to redeem his Navy career. He was first named the 2nd in Command and then on to Commanding Officer (CO)of the Navys largest Air Squadron, a massive Unit at Cecil Field in Jacksonville FLA. At Cecil Field, they trained pilots and maintained attack jets called A7s. This was McCains first measured entry into leadership.

          http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1185143625/bctid1761979374

McCain was revered by many on the base: Testimonials

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John was a commander who did not attempt to tell people how to do jobs (no micro-management) . . . instead he picked PEOPLE HE HAD CONFIDENCE IN and INSPIRED them to rise to the highest level of their own ability.

Sharleen Hollenback, Navy enlistee under McCain:

          * He was a very ACCESSIBLE person
          * He was very KIND
          * He CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE that worked in his Squadron
          * I very much ADMIRED him and felt like was part of something very important in that squadron.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John would talk to the Sr. chief and KID him, given him a hard time, saying things like ???what about your behavior chief?, what about your drinking?, huh, huh, huh???? . . .which would rock them back on their heels while the rest of the crew and shop WATCHED IN FASCINATION at how McCain was interacting with their chief petty officer.

That was part of his unorthodox HANDS-ON STYLE. John was not one to cloister himself away in his office on the 2nd floor of the Squadrons airplane hanger.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

Instead, on a DAILY basis he would WALK THROUGH the maintenance spaces, all the functional shops on THE BASE. He would go though the engine shop, the hydraulic shop, the fuel shop, the weapons shop - every one of them. He would GO IN AND TALK TO ALL the folks in the shops.

Jim Lichtenwalter - fellow office, Cecil Field:

I just think that he did a great job of making himself understand what other peoples jobs were and what their responsibilities were. . .

In its heyday in the Vietnam era, Cecil Field was buzzing with THOUSANDS OF NAVY OFFICERS ENLISTEES, AND THEIR FAMILIES.

          J. B. Renninger, former Navy Pilot at Cecil Field:

You would have anywhere from 10 - 12 aircrafts in a pattern at any one time, doing touch and go???s
We would operate from 7am one morning thru 2am or 3 am into the NEXT morning. It was a very ACTIVE BASE then.

Cecil Field was John McCains last posting with the Naval Squadron, but one that would CARRY RELEVANCE today as HE LOOKS TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY.

So you're calling on the party that got us into this economic mess to begin with, to get us out of what they started? Your logic is flawed.

So are you implying that Obama does not have a love for his country? He lives here, does he not? How dare you equate being a Mayor of 9,000 with a staff of 50 for nearly 2 years with 12 years of Senate experience plus a year and a half of running a multimillion dollar campaign? Get real. In the meantime, really, what are Palin's amazing accomplishments: Mayor, Governor, sports news reporter, mom...big whoop. So these are far more significant than Harvard Law Graduate, Senator, Constitutional Law Professor?

Before you start making statements try doing your homework. Parroting the empty rhetoric of the RNC isn't going to fly.

    • Posted By: limitless88 @ 09/05/2008 7:34:54 PM

Ditto. I think we now know what happened to all the money McCain saved in downsizing the RNC and hosting a series of Townhall meetings instead of large speeches--they used it to buy off CNN, MSNBC, NBC, and ABC to make sure that no one dissed the ridiculousness of this week's shenanigans.

Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.

Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.

Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called "pray away the gay" movement. Larry Kroon, senior pastor at Palin's church, was not available to discuss the matter Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.

IN ADDITION TO THE TWO SCANDALS SARAH PALIN IS CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN - THE OTHER SHOE MAY DROP ON PALIN THIS WEEK!!!!

"The National Enquirer's coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin's extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor's daughter revealed her pregnancy. Following our John Edwards' exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign's vetting process. Despite the McCain camp's attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum."
