Look, it is going to be a very close race , just like the last two. We have very divided country With idealogues on both sides who believe the end justifies the means. So this campaign will again turn ugly, and we have 3well over 30 years of proof that noone gets uglier or stretches the truth more than the republican party. So we can enter the booth and choose 4 more years of avoiding the facts, praising deregulation, privatizing everything, diminishing workers rights, allowing coperate tax evasion and irresponsability, or we can vote for something else. Let us have one election where we don't allow petty exagerations and half-truths blind us to what works towards the good of most of us and what doesn't work but for only a few.

Regardless of what the MainStreamMedia and the Democrats say about Sarah Palin, right now she has a 58% favorability rating (higher than Biden, Obama, and McCain).

Palin Power: Fresh Face - Now More Popular Than Obama, McCain
    Rasmussenreports.com Fri Sep 5, 12:04 PM ET

    Excerpt:

A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom. The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view. Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.

The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCains choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obamas choice of Joe Biden.

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palins favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.

That's what happens when people form opinions from first impressions rather finding out the details of the candidate's background. And that's exactly how the GOP wants to keep it, which is why she is not available for interviews and why McCain insists that we should stop looking into her background in more depth.

Obama has been scrutinized for almost 2 years, and his critics still claim they don't know enough about him. Palin has been in the spotlight for less than 2 weeks, and we're told that we know everything we need to know and to back off. Typical GOP hypocrisy.

Yeah, thats what happens when McCain announces his VP pick, Sarah Palin, when the MainStreamMedia and company starts smearing things about her 2 children and husband (the ethics abuse is fair game, but will turn out to be nothing). All this and her favorability is 58%. Personally, I think it is the medias job to help vet a candidate (vp in this case) to the US citizens. Unfortunately the Media protected Obama in which they would only probe the surface of all of the controversial issues I kknow that I have about him (except for FOXNews, Obama supporters much disliked channel cuz they were the only ones who dug deeper and still do - dont kid yourself, there is more to come about Obama). But I do say that the media did run with the whole Rev Wright thing only because it turned into such a huge controversial topic that they could not But cover it a a deeper extent at which I , for one, am satisfied what I found out as to why that is an issue for me. . .attending a church for 20+yrs , church that is radical in which they preach sermons of hate, anger, and filled with racism and anti-American rantings. Then add in the rest of his 'friends' (unrepented Washington terrorists, another being a PLO terrorist, a convicted felon, the list goes on) AND the fact that he has minimal experience and has never led a signficant piece of legislature in Washington in the 2 years out of the last 4 her has been a US senator. I dont agree with all of the policies on McCains slate, but I dont agree with some of those Obamas list - so I will side on the safer side as we move forward, and will watch how Palin performs up until the GE.

        • Posted By: labman57 @ 09/05/2008 11:56:52 PM

Whereas Palin's church preaches that anyone who dares to criticize Bush or the GOP will burn in hell, and that the terrorist attacks in Israel are God's wrath against the Jews for not accepting Jesus as their savior. And that is after only a couple of weeks of digging. The month is young....

. . . Yeah, kind of brings back recent memories of Rev. Wright (G*d D*m America. . .land of the KKK!) This AIP thing wont last cuz if it does I can see Obamas former church, pastor, spiritual mentor, friend ('like an uncle to me') startting in a few 547 ads. LOL.

People think positive about Palin b/c she looks goods but is a bitter ugly pitbull inside. I think its all the kids she had that made her crazy. Palin experience as a mayor of a small village of 6,700 is like being a clan leader. I think it was a great vp choice for McCain b/c he and she will lose.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/06/2008 6:20:05 AM

Given Sarah Palins 58% approval rating now (beating what Bidens is, as well as Obama and McCain), I would wait for such harsh comments about her until we see how the RNC plays out with a lot of excitement and insurgence of this party has come together after the Palin VP choice and McCains speech last nite. Remember, the bump that Obama finally got happened not during the weekend after his convention but the following week as of Tuesday or so.

    • Posted By: DavidCA @ 09/05/2008 10:46:32 PM

It's stunning, sharenews, how quickly the Republicans have pivoted from talking about the importance of experience into what is essentially a personality contest. John McCain is the hero and Sarah Palin is the prom queen. For the moment, I give them credit for a shrewd political move. [On the other hand, given their issues, why wouldn't they run away from them?] We'll see how it holds up over the long haul. And while the Republicans are veering wildly all over the road, Obama consistently sticks to the issues.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/05/2008 11:03:28 PM

Actually, given the challenges that the Repubs had to deal with (delaying the convention due to the hurricane, smear campaign against Palin right off the bat, teleprompter issues, etc.) the repub 3-day convention turned out to be extremely successful with close 39 million voter viewers compared to the DNC voter viewers of 38+million depending on wich site you go to for the stats.

Based on what I saw in the 3 days of the convention was a building of much excitement, invigoration and strong unity especially once Sarah Palin was introduced to the national scene Weds.

Im not sure where you are coming from saying the Repubs are all over the place cuz if anything is the case it is the Obama camp that is all over the place struggling on how to retool their strategies now that Mccains pick of VP has blown them away as to deal with this woman moving forward. But I agree. . .time will tell as we move forward what the real impact of Palin will be. My gut feeling is that she will continue to excite and energize people with her speeches moving forward and we will see how she plays out in the Debate with Biden early Oct. Cant wait! ; - D

        • Posted By: DavidCA @ 09/05/2008 11:23:05 PM

Come on, sharenews, you have to admit that the hurricane was the best thing that ever happened to this convention, for the simple fact that it kept Bush and Cheney away. Otherwise, I more or less agree with you, and it's good to see that there was great public interest. Why? POLITICS IS IMPORTANT, as I'm sure you'll agree. As for Palin, the debates should be interesting and I'm also looking forward to her first press conference or critical interview.

          • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/05/2008 11:38:12 PM

DavidCA, I was an Event Coordinator back in the 90s and having to revamp all of the planned events / activities in a short window of time (consolidated into 3 days) - Plan B - can be a challenge. But yes, I totally agree with you about the Hurricane was heaven sent to keep Bush and Chaney from physically attending the convention. . . . The two of them would surely have put a damper on things seeing McCain have to acknowledge him with a handshake. LOL. Good point.

OKAY, HARLEY......WHAT'S CONDOMS GOT TO DO WITH ANYTHING????? If you are trying to say Palin has a large family because she's not smart enough to practice birth control...well, you are totally misinformed and ignorant of the current trend of white couples having larger families....and black families having fewer and fewer....of course that's because they use abortion to fix those "oops" moments...The latest information available says that there is an average of 1400 black babies being abored DAILY!!!!! YOUR RACE is commiting genocide on itself....and you gripe about slavery.....Looks you might want to encourge your fellow black men from sending these 11 and 12 year old babies, who are pregnant from flowing into clinic and abortions clinics across this nation....it's a plague....yall gripe about AIDS....well, who in the hell is stupid enough to have "casual" sex with a total stranger without protection????? WE BOTH KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION....and the statistics will prove it...PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM LITTLE GIRL CHILLIN

When George W. Bush told the American people, the world and the congress that there was sufficient justification for attacking Iraq, he lied. Today the American people realize that, just as the world has all along. When he said that American drugs brought back into the U.S. would be unsafe, he lied to support his position, as he did when he said Global Warming wasn???t a real problem. He lied, as did many others in his administration, when he said his administration had nothing to do with releasing the CIA agent???s identity and again when he stated that squelching the wiretapping story during an election year was done for national security reasons and not just for political reasons. When he offered that Afghanistan was relatively secure, the War on Terror was succeeding and it wasn???t a problem to focus instead on Iraq and then frequently again throughout the Iraq campaign he used ???rational lies??? in reporting status. On and on, private accounts for Social Security, Tax Cuts for the wealthy, trade agreements resulting in exported American jobs and taxes, the humongous deficit isn???t a problem,,, George W. Bush and his staff have freely reverted to exaggerations, rationalizations, intentional deceptions,, simply lies while they pursued their own private agenda and now today everyone understands that to be the reality ??? but how often have we actually heard it said? When have you ever heard a reporter say, ???Well the president (or his staff) has told another whopper today???? Not the media, not the Democrats, not any whistle blower with merit, not any responsible Republican with a conscience, not even any Christian or community leader, not anyone with credibility has ever come out and exposed or condemned the flagrant and arrogant lying that the Bush administration has so consistently indulged in. Why? Is there that much power behind them, to control the media and put fear in everyone else? And if that is true, where does that leave us? One by one, separately the individual lies can be taken and rationalized, covered over and explained using more lies but together they tell the real story ??? we are simply being taken for granted and repeatedly lied to. Maybe it is felt that calling them on their lies or disrespectfully calling the President a liar would serve no purpose and might even be counter-productive but, as we have drastically seen, that then only condones and encourages more of the same. It is well past time for change! We desperately need change from the Bush-Cheney abuse and private use of our government and we really need change from Washington as usual!

    (continued below)

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/06/2008 5:21:19 PM

    (continued from above)
The above is something I wrote awhile back and now today we even have John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, sternly declaring that the last eight years have been a failure costing America greatly and that the Republican Party has lost the people???s trust and that we desperately need real change. He now says that he is for change (the Democrats long standing position) and that McCain-Palin is the ticket to shake up Washington??? BUT ??? he is still totally dependent on and is aggressively cultivating the support of all the same people and interests who supported and benefited from the Bush-Cheney positions. Then he, contrary to what he says, in all of his years in Washington has only given change some talk and no action and as a supposed ???Maverick??? has really only flip-flopped and then as it personally benefited him. And Palin is obviously their attack dog, she calls herself ???a pit bull with lipstick???, as she is extreme, aggressive and feisty and offers little else, including no diplomacy and only unrelentingly and without conscience attacks on Obama. McCain-Palin boldly state that the campaign is about personalities and they avoid talking about the issues where change is suppose to take place. There really isn???t much hope for the much needed change there, only more rhetoric aimed to steal the Democrats??? thunder ??? and remember even Bush ran with the promise for change. The lies simply continue to add up in an effort to disguise more of the same. Hopefully the people are less apt to be deceived this time.

McCain/Palin is only a Maverick ticket in name and not substance. Beware of the Trojan Horse.

  • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 09/05/2008 11:07:36 AM

McCain said"I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party," he informed the party to their faces. "We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us.

I could not agree more the Republican party needs a lot of change, It is a party driven by greed, anti science, anti people and headless horsemen.

But I think the Republican party should work on that change on their own, not while drawing a paycheck as President

One thing I know. Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton.
The first time I saw her on T.V.she was wearing the cross on her earlobes.
Was this neccesary? Who was she trying to impress?
    How iser family Typically american?
It is O. K. That she accepts her daughters lack of judgement, but to expect ther families to accept it?
Is adultery O. K.? with her.

WHY DOES MOHAMMEDVILLE LOVE HUSSEIN SO MUCH??? ANOTHER ENDORSMENT...

Sen. John McCain is "absentminded" and "terrible," while his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, doesn???t have any appropriate experience.

Sen. Barack Obama, by contrast "highly educated" and "eloquent," would serve the world much better and improve America???s overall situation.

And Sen. Joe Biden is a "very respectable" man with a "good reputation."

All this according to an interview broadcast this week on IRANIAN STATE-RUN MEDIA, Aaron Klein, Jerusalem bureau chief for WorldNetDaily, reported September 4, 2008.

So the news an antagonistic foreign government thinks an Obama/Biden administration is more desirable than Dubya/Dick/McSame is bad news? Why? It might provide an opening to use diplomacy rather than shoot first and ask questions later. Only fools want to rush to war. It is the last choice, only choice solution to a geopolitical problem. War isn't like in the movies, I've been there. Its about death and pain. Its cost is high in both lives and money. In fact, though I can't point a particular study of how the 1 trillion dollars (we were told $100M, remember?) we've spent so far in Iraq has influenced the present economy, I can't help but think it's partially responsible for our present economic problems. And what are the 5,000 lives lost by the US military and 100,000 Iraqi civilians worth, shaman? Plus the degradation of our forces to make it impossible that they be viewed as a credible threat to any other would be aggressors? Seems to me a good thing that we have an opening to settle our differences at the conference table, rather than by dropping bombs.

What a slanted/leftist article, "moved the crowds to fire their shotguns jubilantly in the air", and you call Republicans malicious, what a hypocrite. You support a man who at his very core believes it's okay to deliver a baby and just let it die in a closet, who believes that partially delivering a perfectly viable God created baby and then sucking it's brains out is morally okay. What a leader! Your party attacks Palin and then acts surprised because she has an intelligent retort to your accusations of being less qualified to lead than Obama. The Democrats started something and aren't happy about the way the Republicans are finishing it. McCain tried to give some respect to Obama, "But you have my respect and admiration. Despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us. We are fellow Americans". You libs seem to have no respect for anyone not in line with your own agenda. What a great "Newsweek Web EXCLUSIVE"!

Yeah, the DEMs are making empty promises, but i gotta tell you, at least it's not so self-contradicting. McCain's message, to paraphrase last nights speech was, "Sure our party fu*ked everything up, and yeah we showed no remorse for the past 8 years, but its the eleventh hour, and scouts honor, were gonna change.". At least have the grace to say, "Yeah, we fu*ked everything up, but Jesus really wants you to vote for me.".

      • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 09/05/2008 3:03:28 PM

The real screw ups of the last 4 years are the Democrats in the Congress who should admit it and apologize to the American people... but they are alternately insulting or lecturing the American people...
... which is why the DNCs approval is so bad in the first place!

        • Posted By: mrzoid @ 09/05/2008 3:11:41 PM

Ok, 1) the Dems have controlled congress for 2 years. 2) The DNC's approval rating is consistently 10 points higher than the GOP's approval ratings. 3) The president has the ability to veto any legislation that comes across his desk and the Repubs have the power of a fillibuster.
Explain how this is the DNC's fault again. It was humerous without any specifics, i imagine it'll be a riot with attempts at justification.

"a Muslim" As I understand it, the Constitution of the United States forbids religious litmus tests for public office. Even if it did not, this little piece of misinformation has been shown to be a lie over and over again. As for debates, debates are not determinative of the vote in November, but it is interesting that McCain was on a debating team in HS, been a long time ago but he will be familiar with all the weaving and bobbing debaters use to make it sound like they have an answer to the question when they really don't. Ought to be really interesting debates, Obama doesn't particularly like McCain and isn't particularly scared by him so the fur may fly. Terrorists, extremists, and bears, Oh My! Next you'll be whipping out that tired or saw that GW Bush kept terrorists from attacking since 9/11; something that is completely unprovable by any logic, and only swallowed by those that love the taste of Karl Rove's swill. One really has to ask why Dubya's FBI ignored the report of its on agent on suspcious foreign nationals in flight schools, and is it really any better post 9/ll. One also has to remember that Dubya had to have his arm twisted by the Congress to even have an Office of Homeland Security. Something is wrong with this picture though, if you really are a Canadian, which I doubt, I think you have no place in our internal political debates. I find it repulsive and butinski.

    Perusing-through, Well said.

Them Right Wing Religious Nut Cases they actually think they are better than all who have proven them wrong time after after. With their cynicism, criticism and divisiveness they actually believe they are saving the world from itself. I just don't get how you save the world through their constant crusade of death and destruction. Extremely scary knowing they are actually running and ruining our country and they are looking for another 4 more years of crusading and promoting more death and destruction.

6.1% unemployment 84,000 more jobs lost to out sourcing just this last month alone, retailers who sell American products showing dismal sales records while retailers who sell foreign product showing books in the black, our air quality and water quality being rushed to the point in which the levels will soon be unfit for consumption buy the life that inhabits our planet and all they can talk about is using more fossil fuels, escalation of wars all around the world, VP picks who have declared wars in which our country engages in as Holy Wars. These people aren't just predicting Armageddon they are working on it and promoting it trying desperately to make it happen. We need to get these people not only out of office but off the streets. back into the system that the Feds let slip through the cracks. We need to get them at least into therapy.

Me thinks they have gone a road and bridge to costly and to far. I would LOL but it isn't funny anymore!

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #1: THE "WE DON???T KNOW HIM" LIES
After 19-months on the campaign trail, detractors of Senator Obama (mainly GOP constituents), claim they "still don't know Obama" well enough to make an informed decision as to how they should vote. But within 48-hours of Sarah Palin's introduction to the GOP, Obama's critics suddenly knew everything there was to know about Sarah Palin. How is it that the religious-right cannot know Obama after he endured 18-months of brutal media scrutiny, but suddenly 'know' Palin within 2-days of popping up on the national stage and without one public interview?

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #2: THE "EXPERIENCE" LIES
After Senator Obama spent 19-months running a campaign that has totaled $350-million; and after 3 ½ years in the Senate negotiating legislations for the nation and for his 12.8-million Illinois constituents; and after 8-years in Illinois State Senate fighting for the middle-class; and after 3 ½ more years fighting as a community activist and organizer; it is genuinely hypocritical for McCain to pound Obama on the experience factor, and then turn around and install Sarah Palin with NO national and foreign experience, to be a single heartbeat from Commander-in-Chief of the United States. This is a GARGANTUAN HYPOCRISY and a RECKLESS decision that puts the nation at risk just so McCain can win the presidency.

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #3: THE "CHANGE" LIES
Up until last week, McCain's campaign has been on "EXPERIENCE", while Obama's mantra has always been on CHANGE. After watching the DNC performance, McCain 'blinked' and changed his campaign to run on the same mantra as Obama's which is CHANGE. This is after McCain accused Obama of saying anything to win!!

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #4: THE "APPEASEMENT" LIES
Bush and McCain accused Obama of wanting to "appease" Iran so they would stop their nuclear program. Obama blasted back and said McCain and Bush hold hawkish views and poor judgment, and their refusal to open diplomatic channels with Iran amounts to failed international policies. Ironically, Bush followed Obama's strategy and began backdoor talks with Iran. As it has turned out, neither Bush nor McCain are calling their own talks with Iran "appeasement", or given Obama credit for what Americans wanted the Bush-McCain leadership to try prior to military exercises. And by the way, Bush and McCain supported 'appeasements' to North Korea in exchange for shutting down their nukes. Again, how ironic, appeasement was the very thing Bush / McCain hypocrites accused Obama.
