Why don't you talk about the fact that Sarah Palin cut funding for single teen moms in Alaska.

Or maybe about the fact that the so-called "advocate" for disabled Americans cut funding for such programs by no less than 63%!

Next there is the company that had to lay off workers because of a gas shortage - all the while Sarah Barracuda was making an international gas deal while saying she was sorry while lying through her teeth.

Why didn't Sarah Palin tell the audience that as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she left a town of 9,000 people ten million dollars in debt, or that she hired a lobbyist to secure pork barrel spending and earmarks for the city?

Palin bragged to the audience about opposing the infamous bridge to nowhere, neglecting to mention that she was actually for it before she was against it.

Geez, McPalin, geez, josemarti - that all you got? Should we spend $2.7 trillion on an illegal war instead, where we can also send off our sons and daughters? Send "$700B to the countries who don't like us much anyhow?" Oh, that's better than send $10 trillion in the next decade on fossil fuels - in borrowed money - to countries that will buy all our real estate - so that we can burn those fuels that will destroy our environment anyway - when we could be producing clean-energy-producing jobs for Americans by Americans to enrich Americans? So war-profiteering, shredding the Constitution, heaping tax breaks for megacorporations and the superrich - all at the expense of, well, YOU - that's all okay? We heard nothing about the economy from the GOP, nothing about energy from the GOP (more drilling, at the expense of the environment, and only to benefit Big Oil, and nothing to spare your own wallet) and nothing about who's going to care for Baby Palin's Down Syndrome child. That Kool-aid is tasting mighty refreshing after 8 years of so much toxic sludge.

Wow.... reading posts from you people (more people on the left) is like reading comedy skit. This piece of trashy article shows how journalism is already dead in america. What a piece of bias trash. So the media is now out to do NOBAMA's dirty work, wait they have been doing that for a while now. Great, now america will get a lobsided one type of coverage. Let me get this straight, i aint no die hard republican either when i say this but i can begin to see why the people are scared of libs because they sound rediculous and their 9/11 like conspiracy stories. Let me get it straight, so Barrack Hussein NObama has less than 2 years in office and the rest of the time is used to run for president. His issues are 90% aligned with Hillary's issues. Hillary has tons of more years of experience and they chose Barack Obama? Hmm.. i guess the liberal nomination left seems to make a lot of sense. o yea the other 10% is the most left liberal leaning issue barack obama can have. He is the most liberal person in America (Oppps im' sorry except for Bill Ayers and his pastor Wright). So he has the same policy standing as Hillary with 10 years less experience but is elected... WOW 1+1 = 3.. I guess that logic works, if it's for the liberal left. O did I mention he's Black? O maybe Geraldine Feraro was right. Hillary is 10x better than B. NOBAMA but... hey 1+1 = 3 after all.

You are an embarrassment. Look closely, this is an OPINION article. This is not meant to be a factual recap of the RNC. And in fact, most news outlets are running pro-RNC analyses as well as pieces like this. Please learn about journalism before you launch your little 'journalism is dead' crusade. And by the way, Obama didn't name himself. Your Hussein tactic is just ignorant fearmongering. Pathetic. This is why the rest of the world thinks we're idiots.

If McCain voted 90% of the time with Bush, how is he a maverick? That reminds me of that time when MC Hammer reinvented himself as a gansta rapper; nobody is buying it...

Is there anyone out there that can just report what was said without taking an angle on a story and purveying the candidate that they like. The media really gets an F for reporting. I love how CNN and Channel 4 focused on the interruptions during the speech rather than the material. It's scary how monopolistic and controlled our country has become. I hope whoever does win the election will break up these monopolies and diversify the media.

    • Posted By: Vargar @ 09/05/2008 1:30:45 PM

I agree 100%. Media ownership needs to go back to local people. Radio stations get a license that makes them promise to run their station in the publics interest. The Rupert Murdoch's of the world buy them all up to control what is said.

You folks have been drinking way too much kool-aid!

And what is B. Hussein Obama's solution? Let's just keep sending $700B to the countries who doh't like us much anyhow. B. Hussein has no energy plan, has no economy plan, has a definite "weaken our defenses" plan and has a great plan for those who work to pay for health care for all those who don't!

Never mind that B. Hussein's friendship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright was no accident, but a carefully thought-out personal and political decision.

Never mind that B. Hussein's association with terrorist Bill Ayers wouldn't matter.

Never mind that B. Hussein has been and always will be a puppet of Mayor Daley's corrcupt Chicago political machine.

Never mind that B. Hussein won his first election by throwing all of his competitors off the ballot.

Never mind that B. Hussein's underhanded politics sabotaged his opponents in his 2004 Senate race.

Never mind that B. Hussein used his clout as a U.S. Senator to save the corrupt Cook County Political Machine when reformers of both parties tried to challenge the entrenched political bosses.

Never mind that B. Hussein opposed a bill banning infanticide-by-neglect, a stance even too extreme for Pelosi.

Never mind that the National Abortion Rights Action League says B. Hussein is the most pro-abortion candidate that they have ever backed.

Never mind how B. Hussein has repeatedly steered taxpayer money to campaign donors.

Never mind that B. Hussein has voted with Bush at least 80% of the time (since most votes are unanimous anyhow) and voted with Reid 95% of the time (leaving only 5% for change...one-half of what John McCain can change).

    Never mind..................................

You lunkheads are blind to the truth. You hear the truth but only deny it.

Electing B. Hussein as our Commander-In-Chief could be the most dangerous decision in American history!

Since when did the media stop reporting the news? I am just another one of those "stay at home moms", by choice mind you. So I must lack the understanding of the real world and therefore some might find me as naive or ill-informed. I trust that some may understand, however, that I have a difficult time sitting down in the evenings to watch television due to my job never ending, and rely on the internet to keep me up to date in the world. A reporters job I thought was to "report". This reporter found an opportunity to voice his opinions rather than report what happened at the Convention. I'm rather let down by newsweek. We are all entitled to our own opinion. So, find an opinion column to write in. Do your job as a reporter and put the facts only to ink. I am not interested in reading your opinion. You have made only one thing clear, and that is who you AREN'T voting for.

    • Posted By: Vargar @ 09/05/2008 1:27:50 PM

I don't know if you noticed, but this article is in the "comments" section. He was asked and paid by his editors to give his opinion and he gave it. I agree that in an era of 24 hour newsertainment it can be difficult to separate reporting from opinion but that's the format that sells the ads. Yay Capitalism! If you want strictly news, then stick to your local affiliate.

From the AP wire: A visibly angry Senator Obama said to reporters today: "How dare McCain imply that I have not suffered, that I have no scars. I too have scars. Look" And with that he invited reporters to look up his nose. "Look at this." And sure enough, several scars were visible on a nearly perforated nasal septum. He then pulled up his pants to show several scars on his knee which he said he had got tumbling down Morning Side Heights after a night of partying at Columbia University. Several reporters wept. Others asked to be excused. The press conference was cut short.

The republicans are all about fear, division, hatred of other countries, reducing gov spending in areas that help people and increasing gov spending on war. Because of Iraq: the world is more against us, the number of terrorists have increased (our Iraq story is the best terrorist recruiting poster).

    What republicans stand for:
    - Smaller gov
    - The truth is they reduce gov in areas that help people, while increasing gov in areas that don???t. End result = gov bigger.

    - They want everyone rich
    - Only the super rich get richer, the poor, middle class and upper middle class get poorer. Plenty of proof on this.

    - They are with God
    - They say it just to get votes. 9 out of 10 things they do are against the God of love that I know. Bush pushes fear and war. The US killed 100,000+ Iraq???s for no reason, our troops raped the women, terrorist flocked to the area in greater numbers and we alienated most of our allies. Bush ignores the poor and homeless. Even someone with the mind of a child would know this is against God.

    - Media is against us
    - Murdoch is a strong republican and bought up around 70-80% of all newspapers and TV news shows. He enforces the rule to criticize the democrats and compliment the republicans whenever possible. Even staff in the white house have indicated they tell the press what to say on specific issues, or what not to say. The republicans try to pretend this is conservative vs liberal, but that is just talk.

One thing I have noticed is that whatever the republicans say, the opposite is actually truth. If Bush gives someone a compliment, it actually means Bush thinks that person has messed up. If a republican criticizes a democrat for something, it is actually the opposite of what the democrat believes, and in fact reflects what is true for the republicans.

On the plus side, once you know the republicans actually mean the opposite of what they say, it can be very helpful. For about a 2 year stretch I invested directly opposite of whatever Bush said about the economy. If Bush said the economy was on solid ground, I???d sell most of my stocks because a big market down turn was coming. If Bush said the economy was having troubles, I???d buy back the stocks, because a big upturn was about to happen. I made money on 7 out of 7 trades. So even thou the market is down, my 401k is doing good. But Bush says less about the economy these days so I haven???t done this for a while.

The end impression I take away from these two conventions:

Democrats - looking forward. Making the American dream a reality for the greatest number of people. Not a handout, but a hand extended to help. Their motto might be "a rising tide lifts all boats".

Republicans - looking backward, a desire to return to the (perceived) peaceful and homogenous 1950s (or perhaps the earlier era of the Horatio Alger novels). Their motto might be "know your place, work hard, raise yourself up by your own bootstraps"

  • Posted By: gvillagran3 @ 09/05/2008 1:13:45 PM

    The Republican convention was a study on the bizarre. How else can you explain the following;

    1) McCain is the son, and grand son of Admirals. He married into a fortune so large that he no longer has an idea of how many homes he ownes at the time people are loosing the only homes they have........ BUT HE IS A MAN OF THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!! And Obama that came from poverty and work his way up to Harvard is an elitist !!!!

    2) McCain is for change ..... But change waht if he agrees with Bush 90% of the time, and his base agrees with Bush 100% of the time????

    3) McCain will come to Washington to change things....... Funny I tought he has been part of Washington for the last 30 years.

    4) Sarah Palin has more experience than Obama because she has executive experience..... But McCain has more experience than Sarah Palin because he has no executive experience other than in the military almost 40 years ago for a few months ...... What????

    5) McCain is the agent of "change" for a party that supports Bush 100% of the time and is in no mood to compromise on anything..... WHile he has a record of supporting Bush's policies 90% of the time.... Can any one explain to me where is the "change" here please ?

    6) McCain the "Maverick" show his "independence" by getting us a Right Wing Chrystian Conservative as his VP !!!!! And then he with a straight face tell us that Palin is the agent of change to support him in (what else) a change in Washington and from whom??? Right Wing Conservatives and Neo-Cons !!! After all that's what we want to change out of Washington do we not????

I don't don't know if Obama will change anything in Washington after the "I am a uniter not a divider BS (Remember Bush?) I for one tend to see political promises as nothing but spin.... But All I know is that Obama is not a Neo Con or is supported by them, Obama is not a Republican supported by a bunch of Chrystian Conservative nut jobs, and Obama belongs to the "other party" and therefore will change something for real....... McCain and the Republicans on the other hand are trying to sale one hell of a contorsionist act with their "change" & "experience" talking points while supporting and having supported the same administration's ideas they now claim they want to change.

    Houdini would be proud.

McSame and Painlin the Clown will only be good for corporate fascist types who don't really believe in democracy only in corporate greed and domination of the American people. Repugs only support the social programs that benefit corporate America and you are all about cynicism, criticism and culture warring. you have no substance and don't have a clue as to what is ailing our great country America and its people. you use fear and division to win elections and solve no problems only create new ones. you force Middle Class Americans to foot the bill for your mistakes, lies and your corporate greed with the lives of our bravest Americans and the depleting of our Treasury. you are so afraid of change that there aren't enough Diapers on this planet to even Delay your swill from leaking out from where you speak while you eject your rhetorical circus of superficialness and idiosyncraticity.

Nice green backdrop though! What school was that?

"How dare him talk about his scars" said a visibly angry Senator Obama today. "How dare McCain talk about his scars and imply that I have not suffered........I too have my scars" With that, the junior Senator from Illinois offered to have reporters look up his nose. "Look at these scars" he said. And sure enough, mutiple scars were visible on his nearly perforated septum. The result of his previous cocaine use. "Look at these scars." Several reporters were brought to tears. Others wondered if it still hurt.

Do you actually think anyone with 1/2 a brain can't figure this out? Oh I forgot, you're catering to the Democrats.........nuff said.
