Our VP candidate has more EXPERIENCE than your Presidential candidate. Someone explain to me how she dosen't.

    • Posted By: neos @ 09/05/2008 9:03:50 PM

Yes, your VP candidate has more gubernatorial experience than Obama. Obama, however, has more state and federal legislative experience; furthermore, he has infinitely more thinking experience.

You know, maybe the progressives should take this women in: she's a sheep in wolf's clothing.

The statement reads ironically in light of the McCain campaign's "America First" catch-phrase. For Palin, however, it is more than a matter of rhetoric. The reason is because of an unusual provision in the Alaska Constitution that treats the states resources -- everything from fisheries to oil and natural gas reserves -- as public trusts:

???It is the policy of the State to encourage the settlement of its land and the development of its resources by making them available for maximum use consistent with the public interest.???

This is not some sort of trivial, legal matter. On the contrary, all Alaska residents stand to benefit directly from the exploitation of the state's natural resources. In 2007, for instance, all Alaska residents were sent a dividend check for $1,654 in exchange for their share of income earned from the state's leasing of oil- and gas-rich territory. Anybody who has been a resident of the state for a year or more is eligible, including children, meaning that a family of four might expect to bring in about $5,000 in income each year this way.

The provision puts Palin in the unusual position of being sort of a landlord-in-chief, charged with negotiating oil and natural gas leases for the "maximum benefit of all Alaskans" -- which Palin generally seems to have interpreted as the maximum royalty dividend.

Sounds like my kind of gal. I am all for having American companies giving their profits to the people... free everything, via Palin and McCain. Yea!

The man McCain comes from a long lineage of warriors. His ancestry was resolute with war.
Hence the man was born into war.
As he runs his campaign, war is his touchstone to the people!

Born, raised and winding his life through in and about war he tells us his story...

Yet it does not seem to matter to him that the Vietnam War in which he served was an imperialistic nationalistic blunder to stop communism from taking over the world! The pro war hype of that era would have our nation believe we were in grave danger- "fear" was once again our guiding light!

I was there as a young boy. I witnessed this abomination of our nation going into that war- ???stop the communists, they are taking over the world!??? That was the word of the day. "The domino effect will..."

McCain, even to this day feels betrayed by the American peace movement as to why the Vietnam War was lost. This is familiar ground as the current American War culture (The GOP)has manifest itself once again in Iraq!

A war that warrior McCain said we needed and voted for! Yet another war that historically will go down as a political assignation of our constitution and our cultural beliefs! Another huge loss of national equity and the betrayal of our beloved youth all for the political ego and a lack of political wisdom!

Wars are won or lost by the rightness of the participants Mr. McCain!
As our nations history goes we have never lost a war when we were right but we have lost a war because we were ideologically wrong! Its not just about strength its about wisdom and justice!

McCains campaign video and speech are sequenced within his life of war.

Service, gratitude of and for his country is based on his war experience.

Then McCain's video biography sequences into his career as an AZ. senator.
Twenty-six years of senatorial time are blurred into nothingness!

His voting record parallels the GOP- a 10% difference from the GOP is supposed to define his presidency, define his given name the ???Maverick????

His record cannot be hidden, his ideology is full of contradiction-flip flops!

President Bush said, ???Im the War president, Im the War president!???

It most definitely seems there is another one named John McCain following in the wings!
I truly hope he is not the next!
And as Mccain portrays himself as different from "W" who do I see at the republican convention directing the RNC program? Karl Rove! McCain is the sams as Bush -the same divisive folks, same convention same idealology!

    • Posted By: jakoye@hotmail.com @ 09/05/2008 8:33:40 PM

Voting with Bush 90% of the time is better than Obama's voting with his Party 97% of the time. One guy, sometimes, stands on his own, and the other guy pretty much never does.

Clearly she is completely unqualified to be President - but that said, she was McCain's only chance to win since he was not going to get the middle. Now it's all about the base and usual stuff; fear mongering, they'll take your guns, gay people might get married, etc....

The best thing we can do is not get caught up in the soap opera disaster pick of Palin, which exposes McCain to be a man far more of calculation than integrity. Just ignore it and say the American people will decide if she's ready to be one heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world.

Go after McCain and his completely out of touch converntion (what a bunch of chest pounding!) I was literally born on the 4th of July and love this country as much as anyone - but these goons try to paint us as if we're against having the strongest military in the world - funny stuff. Oh yeah, and I heard a rumor that he was a P.O.W....(let's hear that a few hundred more times). We get it - we respect you - now please act honorably and stop using it every time you forget how many houses you have.

Ignore the distraction that is Palin - it's his only hope....Distraction, Distortion & Fear.

    They don't think we're stupid.....They know it.

Does anyone know the book or books Palin tried to get off the shelves of her library. There was a very brief interview with the librarian but she didn't say what books Palin was trying to get removed.

Friends. Now that the conventions are over, I will take a little break. This will be my last post for some time. Let me leave you with my sense of who Obama is. He is an ANACHRONISM. He is much older ideologically than McCain. Republicans will win if they help American see this. Having the young face of Sarah Palin on the ticket will help. Good bye.

Ever heard about the story - the dog in the manger? Hillary lost my respect when she failed to stand up to the DNC bullies and demand the right to present her case at the convention. No one got to finish line and so she earned that right (+35 years service and all). Now that she forfeited that right she is out there to stop another female from eclipsing her in the political realm? What is wrong with Sarah Palin? I have an Ivy League education - BSc, MSc, and MBA. And yet Sarah with what little she has have achieved a whole lot more than I have for her community. It is not what fancy degree you have is what you do with it. And all the folks who are crying her down are simply green with envy and resentment. I used to be for Hillary but now I am for Palin. My support of Hillary was limited but for Palin I will be actively engaged. It is time we allow real "blue" collar folks to actively engage and tell us exactly where they are hurting. As opposed to having pretenders like Biden (hanging on to imagined Scranton roots) and Obama giving empty speeches. Anyone for a class war? Then continue to cry down Palin. There are more folks of her economic standing as opposed to the folks like Obama who is the master of empty rhetoric. Oh ye of little faith, recall history had its Joan of Arc so I am confident Sarah Palin can get the job done. McCain/Palin 2008.

It is ironic that McCain wants to keep Sarah Palin away from the Press, but Sarah Palin is a Celebrity now and just like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears will be pursued by the Press and paparazzi! As you can see, Sentaor McCain, what goes around, Comes Around --God's Hand of Judgment is Swift! As you know McCain/Palin, Jesus was a Community Organizer and Pilate was a Governor (Hah!) so was George Bush, so much for Executive Experience...

Yes, Barack worked as a community organizer, but he also worked as a civil rights lawyer, taught constitutional law, 8 years as a Legislator in the state legislature, and 4 years in the US Senate, where he is currently a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee with Joe Biden (an almost carbon copy resume to the great, Abraham Lincoln, America's Greatest President)!

Barack Obama is more than qualified to lead and bring true and positive change to this nation. Barack Obama is an intellectual genuis who is committed to looking forward. He wants to talk about the Future, not about the Past, unlike McCain who is stuck in reverse and continues to focus on his horrible treatment as a POW when he was a very young man. However, he is much older now -- that was a long time ago. McCain voted for authorization of the Iraq War, McCain wants to stay chained to the past, to foreign oil - drill, drill, drill, oil which pollutes the environment and refuses to seriously look at cleaner alternative energies. And, McCain certainly does not want to talk about the fact that Maverick McCain is code for the fact that McCain loves to gamble, loves the gaming tables and that is really who McCain is today!

By the way,it seems that our Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, who could be a heartbeat away from the Presidency seems, to have switched colleges at least six times in six years, including two stints at the University of Idaho before graduating from there in 1987.

Lincoln's record and Obama's are very close. Except that Lincoln successfully prosecuted a war that he felt was necessary to free a people from oppression and slavery. Obama does not support such a war. Lincoln also suspended the right of Habeas Corpus (later overturned by the court). There are very many differences between Obama and Lincoln.

Sure, sure and John McCain is the gold apple. If the pair you are so deluded about can't come up with some constructive coherent policies they won't just lose, it will be humiliation. If McCain suffers any more humiliation he'll be canonized "St. John the reckless!"

"she is the most thinly credentialed vice presidential contender since Dan (potato with an "e") Quayle, who was put on the ticket in '88 because the old guard thought a good-looking first-term senator could attract young voters."

Hmmm... Quayle sounds a little like Obama... except he actually wants to be President instead of Vice President...

    • Posted By: Douglas4517 @ 09/05/2008 6:39:30 PM

Plus, that she says she'll be our 'advocate' in the White House? Puleeze!!....she cut funding for special needs in Alaska by 60%!!! Give me a break, will you!?! Do you think I'm stupid and not going to do my research before I vote for her just because she might have a special needs son -- who they tossed about from piller to post on the stage after her speech like he was a football?
Wow!!!! How sad that most of America will never know that!!! How sad that the Republican party will bury that fact!!! Along with so many other sad and sorry facts about Sarah Palin. Ugh!!!! Why would you pick someone when you know, and your party has admitted, that she is not ready to serve as commander and chief?????
I am a worry. I was a working mom. My son is a dad now and he is a stay home dad while working on his masters degree. Please let there be a change for my new grandbaby. I pray that America sees that we need Obama for President.

    • Posted By: Douglas4517 @ 09/05/2008 6:37:14 PM

She actually increased funding for Special Needs. You need to do some actual researc (you did not) and find that the funding in previous years under that item included "Alaska Challenge Youth Academy" which has been moved to a separate funding category. Funding has been increased for special needs education in both 2008 and 2009. Look a little deeper, search the Alaska budget for "Alaska Challenge".

BRYE.....you're laughable. You're actually comparing Quayle with Obama. If you are then you are an idiot. My casual guess is that Repukicans have a lower percentage of graduating high school and college then Demmys. Repukicans are just so shallow in their level of perception. It's apalling. How many people have noticed that?

    • Posted By: RavenMaven @ 09/05/2008 3:07:41 PM

Your assumption reveals how little you know, and how pretentious you and your party is. You are joke. You actually can compare Quayle with Obama, except that Quayle had more experience than Obama does. You need to understand that ideology is one thing, but the ability to implement the ideology is quite another. To be successful he will need both. He does not have the experience to succeed, and his own VP candidate said he is not qualified to be President. So don;t take it from me.....

      • Posted By: jamesreid @ 09/05/2008 6:34:00 PM

  • Posted By: stematwork @ 09/05/2008 2:10:36 PM

if palin isn't qualified for the presidency, how in the name of all that is honest and fair can you ever suggest that obama is ready? for crying out loud, you're in love with his idealogy, not his experience or proven record. no different for palin.
    i mean, NONE.

so please explain the hypocrisy. be as nuanced as you like.

    • Posted By: RavenMaven @ 09/05/2008 2:39:16 PM

the dems can not answer this question, so they won't even acknowledge it. Get used to that. you'll see a lot of this tactic. In the debates. The fact is that Fred and Rudy were stating fact, not opinion, that Obama remains the least qualified person to ever appear on a national ticket, for either party in the history of the United States. This is not debatable. It is just true. BTW, the only time he addressed this question himself, Obama said that his executive experience running his campaign and its 2400 employees is what has prepared him to be President. That is like me saying that the fact that I can fill out the job application for Nuclear P engineer means I am qualified for that job. HA HA....

I love the attack on the GOP VP candidate, but all the ideological liberals with their heads in the clouds who want to "change" the world with free cell phones and lollipops for everyone seem to forget that Obama has lessor of a record than she does! How devilishly duplicitous and downright evil!

      • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/05/2008 3:12:21 PM

Actually by your argument regarding experience your definition would mean that she should be the top of your ticket b/c McCain also has no "executive" experience. And don't give me that he ran a navy group when he returned from Vietnam. That's not the same as doing budgetary and other administrative things that come with running an economy which McCain himself has noted he is not good at. Also If you look at Barack's record you would see that the community advisor role he held actually involved planning a strapped budget and throughout his 4 years there he increased his staff 12 fold (1 employee to 12) and ran what was considered a very well maintained program. That's your response.

I have a wonderful 17-year-old Down Syndrome son and I am quite involved in my community of 'special' parents and children. I, too, have been a full-time working mother (and a single one for the past 10 years, to boot!), and I truly believe that even though Sarah Palin is most capable of raising children, she probably cannot even begin to comprehend all the things her young son, Trig, is going to require his entire life -- and it starts immediately at birth. Let me say that even with family to all gather together and help in all ways they can that she, as the mother, is still going to be spending way more hours with that son than she probably did with all her other children combined. It's just a fact. And Sarah Palin cannot yet fathom that, what with her son being only 4 months old.

      • Posted By: Douglas4517 @ 09/05/2008 6:27:33 PM

If I point out that you have been misled by some of your leftist friends, will you change your mind? Here's the truth, the "reduction" was actually an increase. What you see is a removal of a program "Alaska Challenge" from a category it does not belong in. And, before you say it, Alaska Challenge is funded elsewhere in the budget and is also increased.

      • Posted By: HFrancis @ 09/05/2008 3:06:35 PM

The State of Alaska Governor???s Operating Budget from 2007 (pre-Palin) to 2009 show a decrease of approximately 60% on funding for Special Needs schools. From a budget of $8,265.3 to $3,156.0

    Sour grapes eh Clift?

Yet another professor,[this one, of the humanities at UC Fresno,Victor Davis Hanson, bestselling author of ''A War Like No Other: Greece and Sparta in the Pelleponesian War''] raked Clift up one side and down the other for her dross garbage aimed at Palin,in which she has formed a triumverate of Macbeths witches, with fellow whiner Gloria Steinhem and NEWSWEAKS other whiner,Sally Quinn, whose invective made Joe McCarthy look like a boy scout. [for this is what it is at the end of the day. McCarthyism, and it stinks, especially coming from those who purport to be ''the press'',who are supposed to stand against such garbage. The reason I love Sarah Palin is she shares my views on all the issues. Period. She shares the same views on the issues as half of the country! That's why her words are in the estimation of Obama's campaign manager "divisive." It's because we're divided. That's a good thing. I don't want universal healthcare. I don't want the government taxing the hell out of my future employers or, God forbid, any capital gains I actually earn should I ever climb out of my lower/middle class hole. Just because you're in a blue state does not mean that you have the best ideas on how to fix problems. Obama is a socialist. I don't want him signing legislation in the White House. Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican Party and it's because she shares my philosophies.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/05/2008 3:51:43 PM

Just becuase you are in a blue state doesn't mean that you don't work collaboratively with people of alternative viewpoints to come up with the best ideas to fix problems.

To say that 50% of the country wants abosolutely no abortion even in incest and rape and believes that global warming has nothing to do with the burning of fossil fuels by humans is ridiculous. And as a tax accountant I can tell you last time I checked, if you have capital gains you are nowhere near lower or even middle class. Unless you subscribe to McCain's view that middle class is earning less than $5m a year?

      • Posted By: F-B Dave @ 09/05/2008 3:48:36 PM

Yes, I'd like to think that at some point in the future, 5 mill annual gross could be the middle class in the US! But it certainly would never happen when the 90% income tax rate is re-instated by Obama on the "rich". Nothing like setting your standards high- well we cant think of anything else, so lets crack those rich terrible republicans at a higher tax rates to "equalize" incomes

I am interested in finding out how Governor Palin's personal views translate into her policy. There may be a distinction. One of her first moves as governor was to veto a bill passed by the legislature in deference to the state Supreme Court

      • Posted By: texaggie2001 @ 09/05/2008 3:51:43 PM

I think you underestimate the "middle America" voters if you don't think they're 50% of the country. Abortion is a huge debate. I doubt you could have a situation where anything could be accomplished on it if you had Congress, the While House, and the Judiciary in one party. But my point is that Sarah shares my views on the subject. Do I know how to solve the issues of rape or incest on that issue? No. But I don't think putting Obama in the White House who would consider encouraging a mother of a pregnant teen to "not punish her with a baby" would be a wise choice.

And I'd LOVE to make $5m a year. I'm not even close. Maybe never will be (especially if when I ever start making $250k Obama will consider me rich). But the people who get there are people like my buddy who quit his job to start up his own construction business. He's built a $10 mil business in 3 years. He's got 60 employees. Don't tax him even more! Because he and his employees are prospering? That's total bullshit. Good for him.

Someday I hope to be making more than $250k a year and it's probably the only time in my life that I'll be able to really shore up my retirement and pay back my children's (now babies) college loans. Tell the government to work with what they've got.

    • Posted By: Ex-Vegan @ 09/05/2008 4:38:10 PM

I represent the other half of the country. I don't want the government telling me who I can and cannot marry. I do not want my hard-earned dollar to line the pockets of politically connected fat cats (e.g. oil companies). I don't want a woman's right to choose to be taken away. I want to see an end to the widening gap between the middle class and the rich. I want to see American corporations bringing back their call centers and manufacturing plants back to the U.S., instead of outsourcing them to India, China, etc. I want our government to serve the citizens of this country, rather than the big corporations. If you seriously think that McPain and/or Palin will make life better for Americans, the middle class in particular, then you have another "think" coming.

Unfortunately, it can't be more of the same. Bush dicked things up royally. Get over it. There's nothing to debate there. He didn't decrease the size of government. He didn't reduce government spending. He did at least reduce taxes.

The debate is not about Bush. It's about the future. You want to help the economy? Don't raise taxes. The government's got plenty of our money already. Make them prioritize what they've got. Don't put a dove in the Commander in Chief position if you want to keep Russia and Iran at bay. Can you honestly sleep at night knowing Obama is running the country and isn't proud of it? All he does is apologize for how mean the U.S. has been to the globe. And don't even get me started on what Obama is going to do to my 2nd Amendment rights.

Hey, easy now! This sounds kind of left-wing elitist. Next you'll be calling her "nothing but another typical Republican redneck" or something like that...

Actually, she's a lot worse. She thinks that she is on a "mission from God".

Let's give her a chance to clarify her policies. She has shown deference to the Alaska Supreme Court, even when she didn't want to
