In regard to Palin's stance against adding polar bears to the endangered species list, I would earnestly like to see some numbers. Are there any figures that show the polar bear population year to year for the last 25 years? For the last 30 years? For the last 50 years? For the last 100 years?
The reason I ask is that I have heard that the polar bear population has been increasing as of late. If that is true, then shouldn't we question the need for this animal to be added to such a list?
Additionally, it has been stated that the polar bears in Gore's film were capable of swimming 100 miles and that the ice floes were used only fto establish a dramatic effect. In other words, to embellish the perceived crisis.
Clift writes as if opposition to Gore's chicken little like tale that "the sky is falling and we are all going to die" is ludicrous. In reality, many people (perhaps including Palin) believe that the concept of man-made global warming is merely a hoax. They further believe that folks like Gore (who has established a company to sell carbon credits to you and to me) have built up this hoax to their own advantage.
I don't know if any of the foregoing is true, but if we steadfastly accept what some scientists are telling us, we should remember that it was the scientific community who told us that the earth is flat, the sun orbits around the planet Earth, and (in the 1970's) that global icing would destroy the planet in 20 years.
So, how can Palin's viewpoint be so casually and cavalierly be written off as nonsensical by Cliff? There is always the possiblity that Palin is right and Cliff is wrong. It comes down to whether our common sense logic and the evidence we have absorbed leads us to accept or deny the man-made global warming theory.
