Trig's Promise

Advocates for the disabled receive Sarah Palin's pledge of support with the wary optimism of a group accustomed to unfulfilled promises.

Comment: This seems to be a anti Palin page. I have read here in our local paper in Ketchikan Alaska that Palin has raised the amount of money for each special needs child. It has gone from something like $20,000 up to $40,000 per kid. So I would like to know where the cutting has taken place.

Comment: Palin's pledge is a paper promise. Given a choice between providing for children of special needs and maintaining a tax cut for his wealthy friends, which will McCain choose? He pledges to approach the budget with a hatchet. One group that will get axed are children with special needs because they do not have the lobbyists and the campaign fund contributions.
I'd also suggest that everyone read the analysis of the health insurance industry by the Los Angeles times. (It's a three part series which began yesterday.) Health insurance companies are likely to regard children with "special needs" as "clinical train wrecks." If McCain gets his health proposals enacted, families of children with special needs are likely to find it very difficult to find any kind of insurance policies that will cover their children. As a government employee, Sarah Palin does not have to worry about health insurance, but most people in America do.
Obama and his Democratic allies offer children with special needs a much more humane alternative. I'd encourage all parents with special needs children to check out the Obama website for further details.

Comment: I agree, is it not the Republicans that are saying they don't want any more social programs and that Obama is a Socialist for wanting to create programs that will help people. Wasn't it Ms. Palin that said community workers works wasn't important. Wake up -- this woman will not help you or your children.

Comment: FactCheck.Org is owned by the Annenberg group of Chicago! Talk about a conflict of interest! And Obama has been telling people on the trail to check out the site to verify his opponents claims. Funny, every time that he endorsed something, it turns out to be a part of his spin machine! Like he raised objections in the primaries when Indiana required photo I.D. to vote. He Protested that It took away people's right to vote! I
knew then and there that he was up to no good! America, wake up from the MASS HYPNOSIS!

"He is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared about as President of the United States.......

Those are John McCain own words.....................

If he said Obama is decent and nothing to be scared and now he says differently HE LIED TO YOU THEN OR HE IS LYING NOW.....

If he can tell you something one day and another opposite the other day, how could you trust his word? How do you know he is not coming with another story if elected? He has not kept his word more than 3 days in a row..........

What is he hiding, why is he lyig to you?

How different is he lying than Bush?

Comment: Most firms pay no income taxes - Congress
Study finds that the majority of domestic and foreign corporations in the United States avoid paying federal income taxes.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies and 68% of foreign corporations do not pay federal income taxes, according to a congressional report released Tuesday.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) examined samples of corporate tax returns filed between 1998 and 2005. In that time period, an annual average of 1.3 million U.S. companies and 39,000 foreign companies doing business in the United States paid no income taxes - despite having a combined $2.5 trillion in revenue.
The study showed that 28% of foreign companies and 25% of U.S. corporations with more than $250 million in assets or $50 million in sales paid no federal income taxes in 2005. Those companies totaled a combined $372 billion in sales for the largest foreign companies and $1.1 trillion in revenue for the biggest U.S. companies.

    Comment: McCAIN HEALTH IN QUESTION...............

The Armed Forces pathologists suggested that the left-temple melanoma had spread from another melanoma, known as a metastasis or satellite lesion. ???The vertical orientation of this lesion,??? the report said, ???with only focal epidermal involvement above it is highly suggestive of a metastasis of malignant melanoma and may represent a satellite metastasis of S00-9572-A,??? which is the ???skin, left temple, lateral??? biopsy.

The pool report was by nature unable to provide a complete portrait of Mr. McCain???s recent medical history. It left several questions, including about the number of biopsies and when they were done. On Aug. 18, 2000, Dr. John D. Eckstein, Mr. McCain???s personal physician at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, noted in Mr. McCain???s records that there were two biopsies of the left temple. Dr. Eckstein???s note did not say where and when the biopsies were performed. The Armed Forces report cited one biopsy, so presumably a second was performed in Scottsdale. The Armed Forces pathologists said a melanoma had developed over a skin scar whose origin was unclear..........

The Armed Forces pathologists did not speak in the teleconference in May 2008, and questions raised by their report have remained unanswered. The selected reporters did not ask about that report, and the Mayo Clinic doctors did not discuss it. A complete Mayo pathology report was apparently not included in the pool summary...........

If Mr. McCain???s 2000 left-temple melanoma was a metastasis, as the Armed Forces pathologists??? report suggested, it would be classified as Stage III. The reclassification would change his statistical odds for survival at 10 years from about 60 percent to 36 percent, according to a published study..............

McCAIN HEALTH PROBLEMS = PALIN S PRESIDENCY! HELLOOOO!!!!!!!

Comment: After 9/11, the US government started rounding up Muslims without cause and without due process of law, and put them in prison camps like we did to the Japanese Americans in WWII. The Bush administration called it's main internment camp Guantanamo Bay. While there are certainly many guilty terrorists held in Guantanamo, there are also many innocent American citizens who have been held illegally for years without even being charged with any crime. They have been tortured by our government. Some of them have died.

Recently the Supreme Court ruled against the Bush administration in the matter of Guantanamo Bay. The Supreme Court Justices were NOT on the side of the terrorists. They were on the side of the Geneva Convention, that says you can not torture POWs, and on the side of US laws that state you can not imprison a person without charging them with a crime and bringing them to trial. I'm sure that like most Americans, the Justices who voted against the illegal, immoral doings at Guantanamo didn't feel sympathy for the terrorists. They felt sympathy for the laws of AMERICA, the land of the FREE, where even rat finks get a fair trial.

Meanwhile, back in Iraq, the Bush administration is busy trying to build a smokescreen to hide the CRIMES they have committed. Those pesky weapons of mass destruction. Just think, the National Debt went up over 6 trillion dollars under Bush. More than 2 trillion of it went directly into the pockets of Halliburton, a corporation owned by the Cheney family. Halliburton is now a DUBAI corporation and therefore is not subject to US taxes. All that money they took out of the US Treasury is going into the coffers of a MUSLIM country.

Did you hear about how the US government is being charged millions for Halliburton deliveries of sand into Iraq from Kuwait? Sand. Like there is a shortage of sand in Iraq? Another contractor shipped sand from Idaho to Iraq at our expense. Nobel prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz discusses these and other excesses of our current government's out of control spending in Iraq.

Your grandchildren will be working like slaves to pay off this debt, so that the Bushes and Cheneys can live the high life in Dubai.

Yeah, they're patriots, Bush&Co. They wear flag pins. And hide the money they stole from America in Dubai.

And they want me to believe that Obama is a socialist. Right.

In case you think McCain is any different than Bush, watch this:

Comment: True "advocates" of people with disabilities would KNOW that you need to look at the person first and not the disability. There have been many changes in language in this field. You need to educate yourself before you can advocate for someone else. I have worked with people with developmental disabilities for the past 23 years. I will not support Sarah Palin just because she happens to have a child with a disability.

"Former Neo-Nazi sympathizer who now supports Obama!"
The only line of attack that your camp has had is to say that people don't want more of the last eight years. And attempting to tie McCain to the Bush Administration because he happens to be a member of the same party! Talk about scare tactics! The Obama administration can't offer any solutions or plans that it's administration will do for America because it does not have any! It can only point to the Bush administration and say, " Nobody could be as bad as that guy, so you should vote for me, because I look good by comparison! And since John McCain is a member of the same party as that big bad boogy man Bush, it might remind you of the last eight years!" So, with that logic, you might as well say, " Vote for me because the nightmares of the Bush administration will come back to haunt you otherwise. It does not matter that I could be worse than any president in history. At least I am a fresh new face and I speak well from a teleprompter and look good in a suit. In other words, I am a poster boy president and the sight of me and my charismatic rhetoric will make the world heal and everyone will come together and sing Cumbayah!" God save America! Do some research and you will find it is common for children with disabilities to be on waiting lists for YEARS-and this situation has certainly has not improved since Palin came into office. She cut funds not just for children with special needs, but also pregnant teens and seniors. Sarah Palin is not a champion of the most vulnerable or struggling among is. This is a strategic, political move, plain and simple.

Comment: The reason why we have had such broken promises here is that the Democratic led Congress, which are usually males, do not understand the needs of children. We finally have a candidate who will be a major voice for all children and adults who have disabilities. I think Sarah Palin is genuine and will be most willing to be an advocate. Something the Democrats do not have a position on in their campaign. That is the real story.

          • Posted By: jillieloza @ 09/07/2008 2:37:12 PM

Comment: Just because I'm against Palin in no way means I'm for Obama. Yes it was amusing when he called it "Wassily" but hardly insulting; I've heard many reports mispronounce it. As for why she's so ridiculous, Ketchikan bridge anyone? She's been behind that bridge and fought for it, and she TOOK earmarked money from Congress to help build it! Then the moment she's announced as VP pick, she immediately backs away from it. And as for that "thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere", we STILL have the money in our coffers, she TOOK it. Just because she decided not to spend it doesn't mean she still didn't accept the funds. As for her bragging about selling the Governor's jet on ebay, do you honestly think she had a choice? We were so annoyed with Murkowski that anyone who kept the jet would have been burned at the stake. Instead she insists on reminding us that she did it for the people... no, she did it because she truly didn't have a choice. Another funny thing is to hear Hannity and other Republicans go on about how she's cut taxes.... exactly what taxes has she cut? We don't HAVE ANY STATE TAX. Ridiculous.

The question is: Do we want someone who three years ago was the mayor of this tiny town to be an eyeblink away from becoming the most powerful person in the free world. Absolutely not. She just got a passport two years ago!

            • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/07/2008 3:59:13 PM

Comment: People keep bringing nothing but being mayor of a tiny town. She's Governor of the largest state in Amercia! And so they don't have a heavy populaton! At least she's governed!

What taxes did she cut.... the gas tax and property taxes. Where I'm from, both are considered tax cuts.

And you sound like she will stepping into the presidency within 10 minutes of taking office. It is unlikely.... that hasn't happened for health reasons since 1945. In the unlikely event it did happen, she would do what Obama has already done: bring in a VP with more experience than she has.

Comment: Great, she cut 8 cents off the highest gas prices in the nation. In Wasilla we were paying $4.45 at a time when the national average was $3.70, yet we have all the oil! And people in rural communities are paying up to $9.00 a gallon. Alaskans have watched our prices rise with the rest of the nation, yet remain stagnant while the lower 48 prices decrease.

I wouldn't be surprised if she stepped into the presidency within in 5 minutes of taking office! McCain is 72 with health problems, no VP has taken office with a greater chance of eventually taking the presidency. At least McCain is somewhat moderate, Sarah will have us learning about creationism and abstinence.

Glad to see it worked so great for Bristol.

You know if a democratic candidate had a 17 year old become pregnant that it would be quite the scandal, yet the republicans just turn it into family values, deck Levi out in suit and have him shaking hands with McCain.

I don't care who you are, it's hypocritical.

And what about the Bridge to Nowhere? And the ebay jet? Pretty much the only "points" of her acceptance speech and people just keep cheering mindlessly because she can speak. It's pathetic.

You wouldn't be surprised if she stepped into the presidency within (now it's 5 minutes) within taking office? Stop putting McCain in his grave... it simply isn't fact. And you still haven't addressed the fact that O has named a VP that's more experienced than he is.

I'm not worried about Palin's daughter... she and her future husband are not running for office.

And so you don't care who I am.... likewise with you. However, you can stop your hypocritical bullsh!t about not not being an Obama supporter... I don't need a light to see through you,

Comment: Sorry, but the 8 cent tax cut doesn't hold a candle to the fact that we're getting ripped off to begin with. If anything it's just rubbing salt in the wound. You were the one who said McCain was going to kick the bucket after 10 minutes to begin with, I speculate 5 minutes myself. And can you blame Obama for naming a VP with more experience? That's all anyone talks about anyway is how he has no experience, the least he can do is back himself up. Never said I don't care who you are... don't know where you're getting that from. And I'm really not an Obama supporter, I don't even really like politics. But I know Sarah, and that's what this is about. Bristol may not be running for president but she is tangible proof that absitence-only programs are not the answer. Sarah used to be a good mayor and a good governor but since she's been named VP she's just fallen into the same political trap that most other politicians (Democratic and Republican alike) have fell victim to. That's why I posted, and that's why it's sad. End of story.

Comment: Ripped off with GAS prices when we have all the OIL. Have you actually read anything I've written?? An 8 cent cut is pathetic when we were paying $4.45 a gallon while the national average was $3.70. And what about the poor rural people who are paying up to $9.00 a gallon? 8 cents doesn't make a difference when they're gouging us to begin with. I'm sure you'd love an 8 cent discount considering Texas is paying over a dollar less than we are. How convenient.

                          • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/08/2008 10:35:51 AM

Comment: You're scoffing at saving 8 cents a gallon on gas.. but you failed to mention the property tax cut. You also say you're getting gouged for about 70 cents more for gas than everywhere else... but you also have zero sales and state income taxes. Not sure where else Alaska can cut any more taxes....

BTW, gas is currently averageing 3.55 here - about 90 cents less than you're paying. And while we have no state income tax, Texas has extremely high property taxes and sales taxes (8.25%). Both are amoung the highest in the nation. No matter how they go at it, states will get their pound of flesh.

In response to someone's outlandish and false claim that Obama would leave a child to die unmedicated:

In connection with this accusation last week, Senator Obama's response was aired on TV. He said the idea that he would recommend leaving a newborn (or anyone) to die without medication under any circumstances is" ridiculous".

We all know that with birthing there can be extenuating circumstances. In rare cases, Mother may die while birthing or following the birth. Perhaps she will choose her own death while birthing if she's very ill, and let baby live. Perhaps doctors will recommend otherwise. I don't know and you don't know because we aren't there. These are personal decisions, or there may be no choice when it actually happens.

If it is true that hospitals are not taking care of dying newborns while Mum is unconscious or otherwise, whose fault is it?

In any case, it is facile to demonise or ascribe blame to any one of our presidential candidates. Senator Obama is one of the most compassionate public figures we know, and he has demonstrated this quality indisputably in a long career of working with those in need.

Spreading this kind of thing is deeply wrong.

Now given that we all agree that it is "dam" near impossible to get medical care and assistance for our kids who have obvious needs ...why do you think that the same government will provide EVERYONE with adequate healthcare. Does every one here want to wait for their own healthcare just like our special needs kids do now? I work in healthcare and the last thing I want is more government in our healthcare system. Comment: Palin has cut funding for special needs kids in Alaska. She is parading around her Down Syndrome son with pledges to parents and advocates of the disabled. Her kid is only a few month old. She has no idea what is ahead for her family and Trig. There will come a day when Trig's needs cannot be met because of the lack of funding (at her hands). I can't trust her to make sure my Down Syndrome daughter gets the services she needs. Parents and advocates of special needs kids have had to fight for anything that is gained in the way of help for these kids. From what I have read Palin hasn't been much help to parents in Alaska. No matter what she does in terms of her son she will be critisised. If she didn't bring him on stage, she would be accused of hiding him. I f she brings him on stage and holds him like any mother would with a 'typical child" she is accused of exploiting her child that has Down Syndrome. Trig has 2 parents. I'm sure Sarah's husband will also ensure Trig receives the therapy he needs, or is that only a WOMAN'S responsibility? Some of the views expressed here appear to be from the dark ages!!! I have a son that is 25 years old who has Down Syndrome. He saw baby Trig and heard that he had Down Syndrome. He proudly commented that Trig has Down Syndorme like me. Disabled Americans receive the greatest amount of discrimination.

I have heard comments like "that child should have been aborted, he will just be a drain on society for as long as he lives and people already don't have healthcare or food" and here's another..."she condemed her down's kid to a lifetime of he!! because of his disability". It makes me sick that people care so little for life and have so little understanding of Down's which like Autism has a wide range of disablility from mild (remember the actor Chris Burke) to more severe. But my experience has been that people with Down's have happier lives then these so called "normal" people do.

What his needs will be in a year or 5 years from now? She has not walked very long in our shoes and wont be for the next few months either. I also feel like she and the republicans are exploiting the fact that her son has downs. Everytime they mention her family they are quick to point out the he has downs. They also say that she "chose" to have him after finding out that he had downs, and that her daughter "chose" to have her baby - yet she doesnt want other women to have the right to choose. I dont trust her at all.

In other words...Obama voted in favor of INFANTICIDE. In Obama's own words he has said it is "too burdensome" to require and abortionist to call a doctor to provide care for a born alive infant. Reasearch it yourself on Jill Staneck's web site...she testified before Obama on behalf of a baby who had down's that was born alive after an abortion at Christ Hospital. The baby was left to die a lingering death alone in the hospital's dirty utility room until Jill Staneck found him and held him until he passed. She was so distressed by the practice of allowing infants to die in this way, some of whom were VIABLE that she blew the whistle on Christ Hospital and went on to advocate against this practice both in the IL legistature and at the National level. At both levels Obama opposed the legistation that would have assisted these born alive babies even if viable and normal! Do you think this is the kind of candidate who would really care about our children with disabilities? If there is someone NOT TO TRUST it is OBAMA not Palin!

Act was written and signed into law by President Bush after Jill Staneck blew the whistle on Christ Hospital (near Chicago) where a baby with Down's Syndrome was born alive following an abortion. The baby was left to die in the hospital's dirty utility room until Jill found it and held it until it died. Obama stated it was "too burdensome" to require the abortionist to make a phone call to get another doctor to care for the born alive infants. Does this sound like a better candidate to elect to make decisions on the medical care for our disabled children. For a candidate who already supports INFANTICIDE it is only one more step to EUTHANASIA. Obama admires Europe so much.....Netherlands, in Europe, has legalized Euthanasia. THINK ABOUT IT FOLKS! Comment: The notion that McCain/Palin will be an advocate for disabled children or anyone in need of medical treatment is an obscene one. Anyone in need of extensive medical care, whether for a special needs child, for a senior, or an average citizen with a significant illness/injury; unless independently wealthy, will likely be doomed to destitution, bankruptcy, and little of no medical care. The vast medical care conglomerative will be ecstatic if McCain/Palin wins in November, and they will be pouring money into their campaign; because it will mean a strengthening of their status quo. If you want to guarantee no medical reform and more citizens without medical coverage; then vote McCain.

Comment: I surely understand your frustration at the extent of the waiting lists as I work with people with developmental disabilities. I have been that intake worker that completes the assessments and then has to tell families how long the waiting lists are. It is difficult to administrate even well-run programs when the funding is not there or is cut. We just received notice last month from our state that we're getting less funding from the feds for the Birth to Three program in 2009. That, along with a directive from our county stating that there is to be zero increase in spending for 2009, makes it especially difficult to maintain what we already have committed to for 2008.

Sometimes, government is the only option available. I work in a rural county and we don't have service providers knocking down our doors wanting to jump in and to serve our families. The idea of private competition sounds good in theory, but in reality, we've been told, "It's not profitable for us to operate here." If McCain/Palin have a plan to address this, I sure would like to see it.

Comment: Give them some time.... I would certainly trust someone who has experience with a down syndrome child to create and enlarge programs to help special needs kids, as opposed to someone who supports Infanticide.
