The person that graduates last from their class at Annapolis is a better person than most who graduate first from many other schools. The academies are THE MOST SELECTIVE universities in the country - fewer applicants are admitted to them than such esteemed places like Harvard, Yale, Princeton or Stanford.
Perhaps you've never put your life on the line in service of our country, so your lack of understanding about character, honor and true patriotism can be overlooked. You have your opinions and you get a vote, so enjoy your freedom. Meanwhile, guys like McCain who graduated from places like Annapolis and West Point will continue to serve selflessly and protect that freedom.
It was so arrogant of Obama to leave Hillary off this ticket. Now we have people screeching for her to come and rescue the "Empty Suit". I'll never vote Republican again but I'll not go to the polls and support the arrogance of the Democratic nominee.
Good one ... I get much comic relief from these hysterical posts!
Thank you for this. I agree 100% with everything you have said here. I am an Alaskan who does not support Sarah Palin (including when she ran for Governor). Many of the things she said in her acceptance speech were gross exaggerations, downright lies, or glittering generalities. I tend to vote for the person not the party, and gender has nothing to do with it for me. I need to hear more specifics from both parties before I can make a decision in November, but I can pretty safely say that McCain's choice of running mate has not helped his cause in my mind.
Guess you're that lot in the 20% bracket then who don't like Palin, huh? McCain wins, you win, you got rid of her. Teleprompter Barry wins Palin comes home to keep you miserable, 80% of Alaska wins.
Definitely in that 20% and if more people would look at the facts, of which Sarah has not been very forthcoming, despite her telling us all she was for a "clear and transparent government" when she ran for governor they would not be so supportive either. Now she has "lawyered up" in the case pending against her in Alaska for her abuse of power. Says to me neither clear, transparent OR guiltless!
80+% of Alaskans don't agree with you. Yet I would gladly defend your right to say what you will. In any case I thank Alaska for this lady. Perhaps you could run against her in the next election should the democRATS win this thing and let Alaskans agree or disagree with you. You up to the challenge?
So if Palin has an 80% approval rating all it says to us that you have an ax to grind. By the way in case you do not know Obama also exaggerates his importance. He did nothing in the Illinois legislature except had his name added to bills folks worked hard on - and that is a matter of public record. And rather than confront corruption he joined in (surely you are up on the Rezlo, the Iraqi billionaire).
And if it comes to character I do not think a man attending a racist divisive church is the sort of person I want to promote as my President. Let us face the fact a white man attending a church with that sort of mantra would have been discounted a long time ago. And if he did not get the message Al & Jesse would have marched to Washington and be many months into a hunger strike on the steps of the Washington monument. Let us have consistency in how we treat people - white or black. that is what Martin Luther King stood for. So in my opinion, just on that basis this man is not a fit President for all Americans.
And there are many other unsavory things about this man that I will not care to outline ...
Patti Davis,
Give me a break. As if Sarah Palin is telling you not to use birth control just because she doesn't herself. That would be as ludicrous as me interpreting your position that I should espouse the belief that killing an unborn child if its birth inconveniences me is right. That is the beauty about America. We can disagree and still be fellow citizens and still want the best for this country. God bless America and let's remember that it's ok to be on different sides of an issue. It's no reason to insult one another, however. It's that freedom that makes us who we are!
I am a republican woman who lines up with liberals on many issues. However, I don't need Hillary Clinton to tell me what to admire in another woman nor do I need NOW or any other womens' groups to define a "real" woman. If Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton are the role models I should want for my daughter then I have to disagree. Hillary taught young women a terrible lesson when she sacrificed her dignity by staying with the man who embarrassed her in every way possible. To all those who say "she loved him" I would say there are women all across this nation who love men that are bad for them. I takes an unbelievable amount of courage for a woman to realize she is better off on her own. If Hillary had that courage I would be willing to take her advice, but strong women don't need any help with decision making. I don't need to know what any other woman believes is best for me or this country, I can make those decisions myself.
The Democratic Party had the best oportunity of their life, they lost it , they have a wonderful woman to put in their presidential ticket and choosed a man, they cheated ths woman shifting States with no vote, hajf vote and full vote as another game played by silly politicians. Democrats will be paying the price for being irresponsible. Do not ask Hillary to fix what the demorats minus 18 million did not do.
I find interesting to think that the main reason that Sarah Palin was brought on the ticket was to primarily bring in the Hillary votes. Have you noticed the size of the crowds at the 3 post convention locations. All of them is basically republican locations have brought the conservative base in droves. She is exciting and energiezed that base that McCain had only partial got behind him. Sure Im not going to say that the idea of bringing her on wasnt to help with those disenfranchised voters, but it was a secondary factor not the primary one! The enthusiasm from the conservative base is now unbelievable, I expect to see very little republican based voters voting for Obama, while I can still see a chunk of Hillary backing or tose non-Obama believing Dems voting McCain or staying home!
This has been the most interesting presidential race in years and these next 60 days will be so much fun to watch!
IF 90% OF THE BLACKS CAN VOTE FOR OBAMA JUST BECAUSE HE IS BLACK, THEN IT IS JUST AS ACCEPTABLE FOR 90% OF ALL WOMEN TO VOTE FOR PALIN. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BREAK THER GLASS CEILING TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR WOMEN. THOSE OPPOSED TO WOMEN WILL ALWAYS FIND A REASON NOT TO SUPPORT THEM. OBAMA WAS SO FULL OF HIMSELF AND BYPASSED HILLARY BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE HAD IT IN THE BAG AND WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO HER. NOW HE IS GROVELLING BACK AND ASKING HER TO HELP. IF HE LOSES HE CAN THANK HIMSELF FOR NOT PICKING HER AS HIS RUNNING MATE.
100% of African Americans have voted for all white men since We got the right to vote. So, what if 90% of AA are votiing for Senator Obama, at least 10% is not voting Senator Obama.
Your eloquent, op ed article presents a view that I and many of my women friends share, Patti. Thank you making it a public statement.
I don't think we want to go down the road of voting for someone just because they are female or whatever. If we could ever have a honest poll of "why are you voting for ?" No one would be surprised at the answers. I am quite sure that a good majority of Obama's backers are based on no more than that he is black. Certainly it can't be because of his stellar past performance. Not a racial remark, just the truth.
Dear Ms. Davis:
It is very rude to ask somebody that was step over by an empty suit and his acolytes to now come and rescue the same empty suit from his own incompetence. At least you should said we are sorry first. If Obama is not able to defend himself from a person that has never been on national politics how do you think he will stand against Mr Putin? He will probably eat Mr. Obama for breakfast
Please let Hillary rest and watch the show. There is justice in the world
Hillary - we are waiting. This mother of two from Oregon - especially. I want to hear your credit given and approval as to effective leadership recognized in all that Sarah Palin has achieved in the past - since 1996 - in her elected roles and on into today - when she continues her RIGHT as an American woman to set her sights upon and be elected into the rightful position of Vice President of the United States. No reason for Hillary to do anything other than stand beside Sarah Palin and support her. Root her on. After all - after each one of them - men only (except for once with Geraldine Ferraro) have been offered up - imperfect in one way or another as men - how can we settle for ANY mentality that says this EFFECTIVE EXPERIENCED, INTELLIGENT, ETHICAL, American woman should not be - historically noted - the first FEMALE vice president of the united states. Heck - she is also qualified for the top spot. Hands down. So you bet I want to hear from Hillary Clinton as to Sarah Palin. Today!
Ms Davis,
I am offended that you would presume to believe that being a woman was the only qualification that Gov. Palin brings to the ticket. So she's not your choice, that's clear. But please offer more than your mock offense to support your shallow views.
How in the world can anybody jump on Palin's bandwagon when she has only given ONE speech! Take a look at her record in Alaska it,s not pretty. I noticed a few posts from Alaskanites and she doesn,t seem to be getting raves from her home state. She has very little experience but it does include schmoozing with big oil, getting lots of pork barrel money and of course getting several of her civil servants fired!!!!She isn't even allowed to give interviews and maybe never will. I can't imagine Americans voting for someone who speaks from a script, but wait a minute George Bush did get elected so I guess it can happen!
The same way everyone jumped on Obama bandwagon after he made one speech. But I think it is not her speech that did it but her accomplishments as well. The speech only serve to make it abundantly clear to everyone what a self-absorbed egotist Obama really is.
I know her popularity rating is 80% PLUS Palin with got rave reviews from Alaskans that I know. What is Pelosi's rating - 9%, the Congress - 13% and Bush - 30%. So where is the beef in Washington? Seems like it is both Dems & Repubs. So let us send Gov. Palin with a track record of reform to Washington. And why all this fear if this woman is a Flake? If she is we will see it for our selves just as I recognized that Obama is a Flake.
Whoa.. I guess having an 80+% approval rating is good... Holy Toledo, she has done things that most politicians wouldnt even dare. She took on her own parties corruption. I am sure that there are some people not happy about her, but at least 8 out 10 believe she is doing a good job. Bush is at 30%, that great Dem Congress is at 10-15%, Pelosi & Reid arent even thought of as good by their own party (both ratings are in the teens as well). It doesnt matter who we point our fingers at, America basically think no one in Washington is doing good. So I am more than happy to bring in a Washington Outsider to give it a shot.
Just one more thing, it is such a stupid argument that Obama has more experience than Palin. It just isnt true... If by experience you mean, casting more "Not Voting" votes in his senate lifetime provides him the experience needed to run our country. The three amigos will ruin this country, Pelosi, Reid, and Obama.
To all the snobs - the system must be broken when a nobody like Sarah Palin can have more accomplishments than folks who attended Ivy League schools. It is not the many letters behind your name that matter is what you do for with the pieces of papers. And by the way it is McCain vs. Obama (Palin is just the VP).
Next you will be telling us we need to pass a law that states only folks who attended Ivy League schools should be in charge. Well to be sure Bush attended Harvard and what did that get us? Common Sense was here before Book Sense. And I think what is required in these trying times is a return to the era of Common Sense as opposed to soaring rhetoric that sounds good but do not put food on the table. I believe that is how Hillary said it and she was damn right ...
And in case you lack a knowledge of history - Joan of Arc was a simple peasant woman and yet she saved France from the English. Some possess knowledge that are divinely inspired whilst others have to attend Ivy League schools. Who is to say if Palin is not USA's Joan of Arc? She sure looks and sounds good to me and I attended Ivy League schools all my life.
: I take it you tell your kids "don't work hard, don't learn eventually you may be ignorent and and unaccomplished enough to be president. Like Sarah Palin and George Bush. Especially never become accomplished enough to teach the American constitution. Knowing that American stuff is un-American"
Some role models
Sarah - the word is spelled "ignorant". But thanks for modeling the definition of the word for us all with comments that come straight from your heart, and alas, your brain.
But what do you about Sarah Palin? Do you imagine that she did not continue expanding her mind after college? I would not be surprised if she is not up to speed with a lot of world issues just as I am. I do not have kids but if I did I will tell them to not prejudge others simply because they different to them. More importantly see through things through their own eyes and not through the eyes of others who may have their own hidden agendas.
I find it interesting that women are looking to HRC to guide them. However, Obama must be concerned by the threat to his campaign that he needs women to now go out and stomp the country side to draw in the female vote. And one of those being HRC. He didn't seem to be concerned enough with the female vote when he didn't give her so much as a look as his VP. I also am rather disappointed that HRC is doing it.
Dear Ms. Davis,
Thank you for voicing mythoughts. I felt deeply disconcerted by Governor Palin's assessment of what it means to be patriotic and contribute meaningfully to the preservation and advancement of our great country. I am a woman and prefer to vote for leaders who display self-control and good judgement. I think that mocking the contributions of citizens who choose to spend their time serving the community and lifting people up by modeling (Senator Obama's memiors are a form of modeling). Bye the bye, Arizona is at the bottom as far as the quality of education and meeting the needs of our children are concerned. I live in AZ and do not feel compelled to vote for the mcCain-Palin ticket.
I used to live in Alaska, and must say Governor of Alaska is a very slight accomplishment when you look at the parade of freaks and nuts who have held the position.
Alaska is a weird place. As they used to say about dating there "The odds are good but the goods are odd"
Just keep minimizing Palin's accomplisments. It just makes you on the left look increasingly ridiculous and desperate.
What accomplishments? Please list them. Tell me how they would get one hired to lead a midsized corporation, let alone qualify one from the presidency.
Most corporations would hire her for any executive position based on her resume.
Thank you, Patti, for your eloquent op ed article.
But wait, rudeness and snarkiness were Hillary's most notable traits. Let's not try to portray Hill as some sweet, gentle woman who didn't fiercely attack the competition. On the other hand, her leadership and accomplishments in the public and the senate could not be denied (regardless of whether I like her positions on the issues), as opposed to Obama, a man who has done nothing while pretending its everything.
