Why is it when a conservative black person or likewise female rise to the top nationally, they are shredded by the so called liberal press (in the case of Ms. Davis-socialist) ?? They just can't stand it that one of them saw the light and does not want to think like the Dem.'s feel they should. Say NO to socialism ,say NO to Obama !!!

You absolutely NAILED IT concerned_citizen76. The only reason Hillary Clinton is a public figure and holding political office is because she is a woman! If it weren't for the fact she was Bill Clinton's wife and road his coat tails from the governor's mansion to the White house, few people would have ever even heard of her. .Without Bill's achievements, at best, she'd now be a senior partner in the Rose law firm or something of equivalent responsibility.

Yes, indeed, Hillary gave an admirable, powerful speech. Some Obama supporters said it didn't go far enough, they weren't satisfied with her words and decades long party loyalty, they expected her soul! That wasn't the last time we saw her...we witnessed the illegitimate roll call vote, that wouldn't allow Hillary and her 18 million voters their due. Obama may have won anyway...you notice I say MAY HAVE...we'll never know, will we? That's the day, when Hillary was forced to give up our votes to Obama. If we 18 million people believed he was the most qualified, we would have voted for him in the 1st place. It must have crushed her heart...she's still hearing our screams of "NoNoNo don't do it", she's still hearing and seeing us cry. Now you want more from her! Hillary and her 18 million voters were thrown to the wolves, and now you expect her to trash Sarah Palin...hopefully she's hearing our screams of "NoNoNo don't do it"! The Republicans now have a strong charismatic woman that can grow and mature into what the Democrats already have in Hillary Clinton, a powerful world leader.

As Palin has already thown her towel into the wolf den I must with no disrespect inform you that not in a million years will Palin ever get close to Clintons power or intell, never. She now lives with the jackals Mrs. Palin does along with her family. Clinton was a great choice no doubt but another Dynasty after this current failure was hard to do over so soon. If they wish to see Obama as Empty then Palin MUST be transparent, at least Obama will not chose judges who would screw over women, nor would Biden. that's fact!! that the GOP can't keep!

Obama is a fraud...open your eyes and see what's going on, you're being duped. Foolish people WAKE UP!

I could not have said it better myself! Hillary - PLEASE come out and speak for the democratic side of the issues for women. Sarah Palin was a smirking arrogant buffoon. Nothing like you - we want you to stand up with Obama and Biden (we know you will have a high cabinet post in their administration!). Hillary - you speak to OUR issues.....and Obama/Biden is our ticket. Please help!!! Stop this empty suited woman from taking over this campaign!! And please get Bill out there too....we need the Clinton power to shine for Obama.

Sarah is good!!! MAObama's energy strategy is to protect caribou breeding while we increase our dependance on foreign oil. Listen to this sounds energy strategy from Sarah:

"Energy security is one of the great issues in this presidential campaign, and I look forward to debating it. Our opponents keep saying that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems -- as if we didn't already know that. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines and build more nuclear plants, create jobs with clean coal, and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

Hi Patti: I'll tell you whre Hillary is....she is in a hotel room somewhere, trying to figure out how she can strangle Obama and blame it on Billie boy.

Why does Hillary speak for all woman---oh because she is a liberal democratic woman---I got it! Nobody speaks for any one group. Hillary lost, why you ask---because she forgot that men vote not just women. Sarah Palin doesn't pretend to speak for woman she speaks for conservatives and that is a code word that says bring out Hillary the ardent liberal who claims that she speaks for all woman--well not for me. She is anti business (I run a business), pro-choice (I am pro-life), anti catholic (guess what I am), and simply is not someone who I would ever vote for. I pray that Hillary comes out and starts to talk because there is nothing that riles up us conservatives than that phony clinton who we would rather see live in europe than anywhere near washington dc. Please Hillary come speak so Sarah Palin who speaks for me can make it to the white house.

Palin is fresh air alright. Just over 1 week ago, few Americans could identify Palin by name, face, governing state or even gender and she is praised by GOP leaders who have never even spoken to her.

Her speech was not her words but written by Bush's speechwriter Matthew Scully to which she is repeating elements verbatim on the stump.

The McCain campain has openly stated that they will not commit her to any interveiws in the future. WHY NOT? Sunday political shows include McCain, Obama and Biden - no Palin.

The GOP asks voters to place "identification" or "appeal" as the most important basis for VP approval. WHY?

She is currently under investigation for POLITICAL MISCONDUCT and ABUSE OF POWER. Since we don't know the outcome, isn't such a selection curious and strange? Unless those who will cast votes of approval have ONLY a different agenda.

and... it doesn't sound like Country First. It sounds like "Me and those like Me" first.

    The second paragraph reads:

"We need you to make clear that women do not automatically judge someone because of gender; we are more concerned with the quality of their character and the depth and breadth of their experience."

This statement does not hold water. When Hillary was in the midst of her campaign, so many men and women made statements publicly and privately that the main reason they were supporting Hillary was because she was a woman. Many added that they believed it was simply about time we had a female president. The same reasoning has also been given by Obama supporters who feel that it is of paramount importance that we finally have our first black president. These are NOT good reasons to support a candidate for the presidency of the United States.

Therefore, Patti Davis is being disingenuous when she claims that ???women do not automatically judge someone because of gender??? and that they are ???more concerned with the quality of their character and the depth and breadth of their experience." Sorry, but this cannot be believed when all of us clearly heard so many supporters call into radio stations and talk to local news reporters and state very frankly that it was simply time that we had a female president. That is judging a candidate on gender and NOT on character and experience.

Beautifully spoken, meticulously thought-out, unquestionably accurate, and wonderfully received. Thank you, Patti, for addressing in such eloquent fashion that which we all need to hear confirmed and that which we
stand behind every moment of every day. Mary, Oak Park

A leader must possess a genuinenly compassionate heart, which is easily visible by the way she/he has lived life . Being driven by ideology alone is not sufficient. While she does reflect the concern for the child in womb, she seems to lack compassion in general. Killing animals and then boasting about it on TV shows she is heartless. Her opposition to gun control is counter to the common sense.

Unless she does something to fix her "image", she could soon fall out of favor with people.

Great article, and I think Hillary is well aware of what she must do. Palin is the opposite of the type of woman that women want to see in high office. She is Pro-life, enjoys killing animals and shooting guns, wants to drill for oil no matter the environmental consequences, and supports waging illegal wars on thirld world countries. She is a wolf in sheeps clothing...literally she had a sheepskin jacket on the other day. Hillary will put the rookie Palin in her place, and if we're lucky, we'll never hear from Palin again...or at least for another 8 years. Obama for eight, then HRC for another eight. If we can shut the GOP out of the white house for 16 years, we might actually make some progress. It will certainly take a while to clean up their mess. 8 years of FAILURE really takes its toll. In closing, Palin is a disgrace to the office of Vice President, I know it, and every sane minded, educated, and rational American knows it as well. She should go back to her igloo in Alaska.

      NOT!!!

      Go Sarah 2008... Hillary 2012!!

She just needs to tell you the truth if Palin gets in all this will disapere, amung other rights women have today.

We respect the right of other women to raise and educate their children the way they see fit. We also respect their right to make their own child-bearing decisions with no interference from the rest of us. We ask for that same respect in return. We don't want the government in our homes or our wombs. It is, in the simplest sense, a respect for privacy, a word vehemently used by the Republican Party in reference to Sarah Palin's family. But it's not just families in the public eye who deserve privacy; we all do.

Don't forget all this is gone if Palin and McCain get into office with acess to the Supreme Courts, today, and after THEY chose another 1 or 2 Judges, who retire or die. All the effort it's taken to get this far will be GONE, forever! Till we get a new Supreme Courts judges, is a very very long long time.

Comment: Palin is the best choice for VEEP since either Harry Truman or Teddy Roosevelt, and for the same reasons.

IF 90% OF THE BLACKS CAN VOTE FOR OBAMA JUST BECAUSE HE IS BLACK, THEN IT IS JUST AS ACCEPTABLE FOR 90% OF ALL WOMEN TO VOTE FOR PALIN. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BREAK THER GLASS CEILING TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR WOMEN. THOSE OPPOSED TO WOMEN WILL ALWAYS FIND A REASON NOT TO SUPPORT THEM. OBAMA WAS SO FULL OF HIMSELF AND BYPASSED HILLARY BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE HAD IT IN THE BAG AND WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO HER. NOW HE IS GROVELLING BACK AND ASKING HER TO HELP. IF HE LOSES HE CAN THANK HIMSELF FOR NOT PICKING HER AS HIS RUNNING MATE.

Message to Sarahh - a letter to NYT says nothing that can be seen as credible. So are you implying she is holding all of Alaska to ransom to keep her rating at 80%. If that was so easy to do George Bush rating will be 100% because he is the President and has real clout! Now you must agree with me that any Reformist would have their detractors because the entrenched special interests do not roll over easily. So before you go clutching on to a letter NYT check the source.

And the media have been so mean toward Hillary that no matter what is said folks would hang onto the good stuff they hear about Sarah Palin. And each time they talk about vetting everyone will say that Obama was not vetted (have we gotten the scoop on the real estate deal with Rezlo? Rev. Wright?) . Each time they scream about experience it only servees to underscore that the next President have even less experience than Palin. Talk about falling into your own trap!

    What a pathetic judgement.
    What has Patti Davis accomplished?
Did she earn a BS in basketweaving?
Has she held a job with major responsibility?
    Where is HER resume?
Another cry from a liberal for government aid.
    Another biased article by Newsweek.

Thank-you for this wonderful article and writing what I know many woman are saying..what I have been saying ..the women of this country are not so badly in need of a woman candidate that any will do..we wanted Hilary because we knew when she spoke she knew what she was talking about ...be it on a stage in front of millions of people or in a small town meeting (without a telepromtor) she knows what she is talking about domestic or foreign policies Hilary knew the answers... and about the down to earth thing..I want someone who knows what they are talking about to be in power,, not someone I'd like to go to lunch with...Hillary whether you are the candidate or not we need to hear your voice....

Very nice. Hilary please do respond. Sarah Palin's speech raises fear in what direction we could go to, if we do not counter the negative approach in time. The time is NOW.
