Newsweek is so biased it has no credibility anymore. You are no better than Joseph Gerbils if you use the power of the press to present information in a manner designed to indoctrinate your audience! Newsweek management: Perhaps you should divide your organization into two sub-groups. One espouses your current world view. You staff the other group with people who advocate an alternate position. Then present what both camps come up with.

I hope Hillary reads and acts on this. I've been a fan of hers from the first day she entered the race and remain disappointed she isn't the Democratic nominee. However, I continue to look to her for leadership--not because she is a woman, but because she is competent, articulate, passionate and is a woman for our time. If Obama offers nothing more than a classy approach (vs. carping, sarcasm, bitterness, etc.--typical of the responses I've seen and heard from the Republicans. Why don't they read 1776 and get a fix on wht this country stands for--including separation of church and state. Come back soon Hillary.

Glad to read..I am not the only one who misses Hillary. Palin is nothing but a by-product of the republican machine. She has yet to break groubd. At least Hillary from the beggining always chased the impossible.

Actually Anne Kilkenny is a real live woman from Palin's town. They quoted her in the NYT this morning.

Sarah complained about the ???old boy???s club??? when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of ???old boys???. Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal???loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State???s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla???s Police Chief because he ???intimidated??? her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska???s top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it???s pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn???t fire her sister???s ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn???t like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.

I am going to FOX NEWS, wow, your explaination for everything you said was full of judgement, insult to our sex, and just downright divisive. YOU and your thinking are what's wrong with this country. When did the "ONE Nation Under God" become just something we hold in our purses or pockets because it's on our coins? ONE ONE ONE means unity, love among our fellow americans, and I am tired......so very tired of polictics......

Comment: Where is the precedent for a losing primary candidate working to get the winner elected? Most offer up a perfunctory endorsement and move on with their lives, so why are the rules different for Hillary? Many of the Obama zealots loathe Hillary and couldn't wait to get her off the stage but now its up to her to get their candidate elected. I guess it's time for him to write up an IOU for the first vacancy on the Supreme Court.

If you wanted a real viable candidate for president, you should have picked Rep. John Dingell of Michigan who has one great record of real accomplishment and who is a true patriot thta both parties could support without question.

Who is guilty of this "automatic assumption" that women will fall in line behind a female candidate? That's a rather arrogant and insulting assessment of the Palin pick. Not surprising, however. The most vocal proponents of this type of thinking have come from the establishment women's movement itself. Palin doesn't fit the idiological mold, therefore she is unfit. As a female, I'm tired of NOW's message to the women of America: get in lockstep with our small tent thinking or you will be branded as unworthy...and we will set out to discredit you.

This article is a disgrace to all women, as it implies that only Hillary Clinton understands women and women issues. Give us women some credit! Most women I know would not vote for Hillary at all, and would vote for the other candidate in order not to let her get into office!
Palin, on the other hand, seems to be down-to-earth, and thinks more like the women of this country. My vote is now switched from Obama to McCain.
