This was thoughtful and well said. I couldn't have said it better myself. It makes me wonder what the press and others who are gushing over Sarah Palin saw in her performance. She has no great presence, speaks in a tremulous voice, and has even less substance in her speeches. No wonder the RNC is keeping her away from the press for interviews. They know she is ill-prepared to deal with the press, much less with the serious issues that are facing this country. And, they are counting, once again, on the stupidity and gullibility of some Americans to vote for an attractive, yet vacuously packaged persona.
It would particularly be political suicide for Hillary voters to vote for McCain just because of Palin. His platform is anathema to theirs--- and it hasn't changed -- it has become more entrenched in the right-wing of his party with Palin's addition. If McCain gets elected then such voters will have only themselves to blame as the clock gets rolled back regarding Roe v. Wade, and America is saddled with yet another president who invades other countries first and asks questions later. (It is mind-boggling to me that there is the perception out there that McCain is more up to speed on foreign policy, when he doesn't even know that Iraq and Afghanistan do not share a border, that Iran actually lies in between them; and that he once confused the Shiites with the Sunnis.)
As for Hillary???s role in all of this, if she truly loves this country, as she professes, she???ll put her ego aside and campaign hard for Barack Obama to be elected, because there is so much at stake. As Obama said, this election is not about him, and neither is it about Hillary Clinton. Its about us collectively and the times we live in, for which we need wise, prudent leadership to steward us through.

yes i urged all women who say they where supporters of hillary clinton and say she shares your value and issues that you believe in and if that's really true ,then you should follow your heart and stand with the democratic party and dont be fooled by the pick john mccain vp choice compare the issues that hillary clinton was fighting for to the ones os sarah palin and remeber whose control the white house for the last eight years and that john mccain voted with bush 90% of the time and that sarah palin is as far right as john mccain on certain issues such as woman right to choose , and voted against funding to buy libary books for the state libary and who calls the war in irag a act of god and who said she doesn't the roll of the vp and who against sex education being taught in schools and who did accept earmarks for her state and who did raise taxes ,and john mccain who said he's want to reform washington how can you do that when you have 169 lobbyist running your campaign and your top advisor is a lobbyist the country of georgia no wonder mccain came so trongly in there defense when russia invadded them and there are a lot of we dont know about sarah palin so the media do job ,because the people have a right to know before we make the most importance decission as to who we want to run this country for the next four years

You got ONE thing right in this piece; no one should expect all women to vote for Palin just because she's a woman. You might want to pass on that piece of wisdom to the African-American community who seem to be 100 % behind Obama because he's African-American. Let's face it: the liberal media cannot stand the fact that Palin has more EXECUTIVE experience than the other THREE candidates combined. If her readiness is fair game than so is Obama's, something the media has given Obama a pass on.

Only the African Americans who cannot realize that their lack of spirituality was exposed when they would support a man on the basis of his skin color. Would they wake up and realize that they are being tested on their belief in an Almighty God? Because if their faith is strong they would be able to recognize that Obama is an utter Fraud. How can you worship at a church whose tenets are racist and divisive? How can Obama be a witness to all of this (for 20 years) and never once bring the message of Hope and Change to a group that solely needed it? Fundamental to your belief in God is forgiveness. And this election exposed the African Americans as bitter folks. I mean they could not even get beyond blackness to speak up for the unfairness dished out to Hillary. And then they wonder at their lot in life? I was always taught that when you acquire spiritual wealth physical wealth follows. So maybe they need to take a long look at themselves and not point the racist fingers at others. And I know of what I speak because I am black and it was shock to my system how people placed their blackness ahead of fairness.

The Democratic Party insiders would never have let Obama in their club if he were 100% black.

They are racist and sexist... their guilt about the poor treatment of the blacks as slaves caused them to put him in and set Hillary aside... He had the opportunity to pull women up through the glass ceiling.. instead he picked a stiff white guy.... pathetic!!!

We are waiting to hear from a woman that sold her dignity to get ahead politically?
    I think not!

Most liberal women are snarky, and Hilliary Clinton is among the worst. When she attacked Obama with her snarky Xeroxing other peoples words comment, I thought it was funny, and deserved. It was however snarky and she is very sarcastic most of the time. Hillary thought she was macho when she said she landed under fire in Bosnia. She lied about that as we know.

HarleyDavidson - If you truly were a Hillary supporter, which I doubt, you would know that the people who for fifteen years have been spreading the lies that "Hillary murdered Vince Foster, made money on drugs, cheated on her husband, and on and on and on" are the Republicans - the same ones you are now supporting. (And don't be fooled by the lipstick on a pitbull; the same folks who have run this country into the ground during the Bush/Cheney administration will remain in charge during the a McCain/Palin administration. The GOP has literally made an industry out of attacking the Clintons. Any Hillary supporter who'll vote Republican after watching the GOP convention turn the party into free-market Stalinists (complete with refusal to submit to press scrutiny, glorification of military symbols and equating of dissent from their platform with lack of patriotism) is either a sexist or a racist or both. Apparently whether a candidate has a uterus matters more than whether a woman has the right to control hers.

Hillary as been clearly taken out of the election process thanks to the voters of Obama, they wanted not part of Hillary Clinton, so why are all the women looking to her for her to say something ? She told all the Hillary supporters to fall in line behind Obama, so may and some won't . Some may vote for McCain just because of Palin and that is no fault of HIllary's, the Republican's did what Obama and the Democratic Party should
have done. But they didn't so some people may reward the Republicans for that. Hillary as said her piece. Leave her alone, if you to look for guidance then you should have voted for her instead of the " Change candidate". The ball is now in Obama and no one else's leave it there, it his problem to deal with McCain and Palin, NOT HILLARY's !!!!

    > It is, after all, in her best interests for Obama to lose.<

Not true actually. If he wins she can run in 2012. She isn't a viable candidate against an incumbent Palin, because she needs moderate and independent femal votes that Palin will take.

Dems would be even more foolish than they are to run Hillary against Palin

    • Posted By: Sarahh @ 09/06/2008 1:35:50 PM

Correction I meant "If he wins she can run in 2016"

If McCain Palin win she is unlikely to be a viable choice for the Dems until 2020 or 2024

personally, I think that Hillary should say this... "You go girl. While our politics don't agree and we come from different lifestyles, you the rugged outdoors and me the big city, we strive to achieve the same things. We both wish to change the way women are perceived in politics, shatter glass ceilings, demonstrate that a mom can be a great leader, have a loving husband, raise a family and still be tough as nails. Congratulations on your appointment."

And, Palin should say... "Hillary, thank you for setting a standard for women in government. Without your strong leadership and commitment to the cause of reform, women like me would not be taken seriously. I am sorry it wasn't you, but you are in all of us that are moving the cause of strong, serious women in politics further ahead."

Unfortunately, they are both probably too caught up in party politics to admire the hard work of the other. And so is the author of this article. Sorry Ms. Davis, you sound like an angry, bitter, sore losing radical feminist, and not an objective, critical thinking commentator that sees the good in Sarah Palin and the influence of Hilary Clinton that got her here.

  • Posted By: Political Critic @ 09/06/2008 1:34:11 PM

LOL...are you kidding me??!! The liberal democrats used the SAME tactic with women. For the better part of two years the DNC and Hag Clinton's campaign (not to mention the biased liberal media) thought she had the women's vote locked up...JUST BECAUSE SHE WAS A WOMAN. Where were your ignorant complaints then?

  • Posted By: nola1946 @ 09/06/2008 1:21:28 PM

Thank you, Patti Davis, for expressing so clearly everything I have been thinking since watching the offensive Sarah Palin last week. There is a very insightful letter from an Alaskan who knows Ms. Palin personally going around by emails. What Anne Kilkenny from Palin's hometown has to say should be heard by everyone. It paints a very different picture than the one the GOP wants to promote as this woman being so admirable and high-minded. Surely with just a bit of scrutiny (which every political candidate should expect and which is absolutely justified) the American people, both Democrat and Republican, male and female, can see what a huge mistake it would be to buy into the idea that this vastly under-qualified, self-promoting, egotistical person should be placed in a position as being the possible leader of the free world.

    • Posted By: ToadTreeHugger @ 09/06/2008 1:26:34 PM

Kind of like the emails that were spread around earlier this year about Obama being a Muslim and belonging to radical terrorist organizations. Why do you give any credence to these kind of emails? Get real.

      • Posted By: nola1946 @ 09/06/2008 1:33:08 PM

Anne Kilkenny did not send an ambiguous, anonymous, secretive message about Palin. She signed her name and explained her connection and how she knows what she knows. She gave information that was both pro and con. Unfortunately, the cons outweighed the pros enormously.

    • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/06/2008 1:31:15 PM

And I have gotten two e-mails that had nothing to say except wonderful praise. So who is right? I am sure it is some Obamabot that is trying to smear the woman.

And by the way how come you never listened to Hillary when she say Obama should be vetted. I am still unsatisfied with Rezlo, Ayres, the Iraqi billionaire, Rev. Wright etc. Everything was brushed aside as trivial.

I sense real hysteria from all these posts. Recognize that God has thrown up a life line by sending us Gov. Palin to expose the Big Fraud. Use your spiritrual eyes before it is too late.

    • Posted By: Wolfin @ 09/06/2008 1:29:10 PM

Let me guess. Kilkenny is either a Dem or a Republican she exposes for corruption. Any person who has ever ACCOMPLISHED something will have people who don't like them.

  • Posted By: greengirl1 @ 09/06/2008 1:33:01 PM

Thank you, Patti Davis for so eloquently stating the concerns that not only women but ALL Americans should understand. My vote is not for a candidate's gender, but rather their vision for America and our place in the world. Obama/Biden will improve our economy that was ravaged under eight years of Republican watch, bring affordable healthcare to all, and return a sense of civility and respect to Americans here and abroad. I've had it with eight years of Bush's snarkiness, and surely don't need it from the next Republican candidates. Obama/Biden "08!

I would rather have a little pain with McCain than a lot of trauma with Obama! McCain/Palin'08

    • Posted By: themediaisrightwing @ 09/06/2008 1:32:08 PM

You won't have a little pain with McCain - you'll have a lot of pain - a continuation of the wreck of the economy and the trashing of the Constitution that we've had for the past eight years. But it's nice that you can rhyme, even if you can't reason very well.

    • Posted By: WasHRCnowPalin @ 09/06/2008 1:27:58 PM

Sarah Palin does seem a lot like Katherine Harris. There is type of Republican woman who are extremely nasty.

    • Posted By: Wolfin @ 09/06/2008 1:30:24 PM

What a ridiculous statement to make. And Pelosi and Clinton can't get nasty. Sober up!

to Patti Davis: I was a Hillary supporter, but not waiting for her to suggest to me or other women what we "ought" to do regarding Sarah Palin or our votes - we own themt, and I know to whom mine's going for president/VP. Hint: There's no way I'd vote for The Fraud, but down-ticket Dems - yes.

thank you for this...I am afraid of Sarah Palin and her extremism...if she should become President...what would happen to our country? What would happen to our right to choose? The separation of church and state? I am afraid that Americans and shallow and are enamored of this woman because of her good looks and charm. I am not impressed by her viscious comments about Obama's community service. She is no Hillary. Hillary talks to the press. Sarah says nothing that is not scripted.

  • Posted By: jboggan @ 09/06/2008 1:12:11 PM

As a previous Hillary supporter, Hillary does not need to say ANYTHING to promote Obama. He snubbed her so now I will vote for McCain/Palin '08. Hillary is only doing what she HAS to do as a loyal Democrat. My goal is to vote for McCain/Palin '08 and Hillary '12. I would much rather have 4 years of McCain than 8 years of Obama. I will rather have a little pain with McCain than a lot of trauma with Obama!!!!!

    • Posted By: floridagirl100 @ 09/06/2008 1:22:32 PM

You make me laugh. It's obvious you are no Hillary supporter, but a Republican pretending to be. No Hillary supporter who applauded her strong stands on choice and health care could then vote for Palin, who stands polar opposite those issues. Pleas stop thinking we're as stupid at McCain/Palin/Rove think we are.
