The decision here is basic: More government, more taxes or less government, less taxes...you choose.

    • Posted By: sjw1946 @ 09/06/2008 11:56:24 AM

I also want lower taxes. Since it feels selfish and immoral to take away programs that I don't believe in or benefit frombut that do, in fact, have real value to others (e.g., food stamps and Medicaid, which I don't derive any benefit from), I'm wondering what you, DML6, would be willing to give up in exchange for lower taxes? For the sake of this discussion, please let me know what you are willing to PERSONALLY forego to lower taxes?

      • Posted By: jduncan3321 @ 09/06/2008 12:37:04 PM

Historically, lower tax rates equal higher tax revenues.

      • Posted By: sedonakaren @ 09/06/2008 12:33:40 PM

THat's a great question! I wish I'd thought of it.

    • Posted By: sedonakaren @ 09/06/2008 12:25:28 PM

Interesting argument, except that altho the Repub mantra has always been "less government," they have historically only INCREASED the size of government . After 9/11 they ADDED the huge Homeland Security dept., even though the problem that caused Bush not to see the signs it was coming was in the inability to coordinate what the CIA and FBI already knew. The problem was in the beauracracy already in Washington. The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing, so they ADDED another HAND!

Also, unemployment is UP, EXCEPT in the case of the government jobs. Government employment was UP last month, which means another INCREASE in the size of govt, right?

Then there's the issue that Dems are called "tax and spend democrats." How does THAT wash when the last Dem president not only balanced the budget, but left behind a SURPLUS? A surplus that the Repub administration not only squandered, but turned into the largest deficit in HISTORY? And that's not even COUNTING the 12 billion a MONTH we're spending in Iraq, which will amount to at least a TRILLION dollars, if not more? Please SPARE me the Republican talking points. They're a LIE.

Well, at least McCain realizes that women are important voters and need to be recognized. Ignorant, arrogant Obama couldn't see fit to put Hillary on his ticket. I think he's afraid of her. If he can't stand up to her, how is he going to stand up to the evil in the world. There are alot of women out there who were not motivated to go to the polls just because of Hillary. I think it's an insult to think that, as women, we all think alike. Will McCain/Palin get Hillary voters? Well, all he needs is a small % to win. He doesn't need all 18 million. Just as Palin awakened and motivated some women, Palin has done the same. Regardless of your political views, we should be celebrating the fact that a woman is on the ticket.

What has to happen TO YOU for you to get it? What if, in the next four years your job was shipped overseas?, what if roe v wade was was overturned and WOMEN had to, once again, get abortions in back alleys? What if you had a daughter that had to go to war and perhaps come home lame or even lose her life?,What if YOU had to pay 8.00 a gallon for gas, what if women continued to get passed over for key jobs in corp. america?
We are a nation of not only women, but also of girls, boys and men. You may hate Barack, but he, as a Democrat is better than any stinkin republican who doesn;t care about YOU or me.. Please, get it!

I just do not understand. Why are you asking for help from a woman (Hillary) that can not even help herself. When she stayed with her husband after his Lewinsky affair, that sealed her fate. If she can compromise that much in her own marriage vows, why do you think she would do more for the country? Hillary is not a person to look up to.

Dear Ms (this is politically correct right?) Davis,

    READ MY LIPSTICK! NOOBAMA!!

  • Posted By: HoosierD @ 09/06/2008 12:35:28 PM

After what "the good 'ole boys" (Edwards, Biden, Richardson, and above all Obama) did to her, I wouldn'y be suprised if we don't hear from her for a while, yet.

  • Posted By: datahog @ 09/06/2008 12:35:04 PM

    Women not snarky? Yeah, right

  • Posted By: MortyR @ 09/06/2008 12:33:04 PM

    Bush McCain
Vote for more of the same?
    You must be insane.

  • Posted By: staroftexas @ 09/06/2008 12:31:26 PM

If this is true why are you waiting for Hillary to speak. She has all and more of the snarkiness, sarcaism, and rudeness of Sarah Palin. Palin values life as does Hillary, and we as a country value it more we won't have to be rude or sarcasstic. Once again many Americans don't understand that there are issues that can be compromised as those that can't. This is why George Washington attempted to keep political parties from emerging during his administration.

This country would be lucky to have the service of an honest person like Sarah Palin. I can't wait to see her face off against that mob lawyer Joe Biden. She'll feed him his own balls fried with chips.

    Sara Palin for President!

    Hillary 2012!!!

Why should Hillary be used as a pawn for Obama's gain? Obama is NOT the correct candidate. Obama did NOT choose her for the VP position. This was just one of what I am certain will be many bad decisions the inexperienced Obama and his team will make.

If by some fluke, Obama does win this election, which if he does it will not be with my vote, Hillary will be blocked out for the Dem nomination in 2012. McCain will be in for one term, Dems still own congress. Palin can only help convince the nation that women are capable of running the government from the highest offices.

This is not sour grape strategy, this is good planning.

    Hillary 2012!!!

    • Posted By: chazcanfly @ 09/06/2008 12:14:58 PM

Do you realize the damage that occured under a republican administration in the last eight years? Maybe you need to lose your job, or have a kid go to war in the middle east, or pay 8.00 a gallon for gas. Or maybe lose your health care benefits because your employer will no longer pay them. This can all happen in the four years you're waiting for Hillary to get elected. Plus, the republicans depend on people like you because they know that if we're divided we won't win ANY election, not in 2008 or 2012!

      • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/06/2008 12:30:04 PM

I hear you but in case you suffer from senility or amnesia, McCain was not Bush Vice President or his Chief of Staff or his Secretary of State or his close confidant. If anything he was a lone voice in the wilderness on Ethics reform and many such things. Now he has an able partner in Gov. Sarah Palin who shares his maverick approach.

And by the way, who was it that pledged to accept public financing for this election and then opted out? Is that change we can believe in? To borrow a famous line from Rev Wright - the chickens are coming home to roost. Let us send Gov. Palin to Washington to continue the fight for the Common Man. In 4 years time we will assess what changes were wrought ...

    • Posted By: chazcanfly @ 09/06/2008 12:24:15 PM

What will it take for you to wake up? Do you realize the damage another republican administration can do in just 4 years? What if your job was outsourced, or what if your company no longer offered a health package?, What if YOU had to pay 8.00 a gallon for gas? You wouldnt be thinking about 2012, you'd be thinking about 2008 and that you should have voted for Barack. The republicans are depending on people like you because they know if we're won't win as long as we're divided. Not in 2008 or 2012!

I suggest anyone that believes Obama is going to help them and the country read Investor's Business Daily, August 25th; there is an article title "Obama wants to shift tax burden to rich". According to Obama - if you are a family of 4 with an income of $31,000 - $46,000 you would end up with a 34% - 39% marginal tax rate - 13% points higher than the current tax code. 13% higher!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know anyone who believes $31,000 - $46,000 is "middle class" - except Obama. Must be all that pot and "blow" that he used - and if you actually read his book you will see that those are HIS words!!! McCain and Palin will HELP the country - not make the hard working people pay for those that don't.

    • Posted By: WasHRCnowPalin @ 09/06/2008 12:27:40 PM

MAObama is a socialist... his plan is to redistribute wealth according to his leftist bent.

But do not fret... Sarah is going to win and she will help families not but additional burden on them!

      Sarah 2008... Hillary 2012!!!

  • Posted By: Highpaid @ 09/06/2008 12:26:27 PM

Woman for Hilary, yu need to place and order for yoursef, such as a few boxes of Kneeeeeeeenex!

Have a good day! I feel your pain here as one President stated!

  • Posted By: nancy50 @ 09/06/2008 12:25:09 PM

    Dear Patti Davis,

    Where were you in February?

  • Posted By: mitchejm @ 09/06/2008 12:23:35 PM

The big city, liberal elite is out of touch with the vast majority of Americans. Not everyone is going to agree with McCain-Palin, but their life stories are going to resonate with a lot of Americans across this great nation.

  • Posted By: yahoo11 @ 09/06/2008 12:22:53 PM

She should say screw you. Obama should win the presidency on his own. He's a big boy. He is going to learn the hard way that you can only fight fire with fire - the clintons knew this - there is no honor among republicans they are fearmongers and have always been = Hillary was tough enough because she got down dirty - guess what politics is DIRTY - Obama better get in the trenches just like every body else he isnt going to win the presidency by being above it all while repubs steamroll all over him....what an idiot.

  • Posted By: nancy50 @ 09/06/2008 12:22:15 PM

    Dear Patti Davis,

    Where were you in February?

  • Posted By: hayeswhitt @ 09/06/2008 11:32:22 AM

It blows my mind to see comments about how unqualified and inexperienced the #2 pick on the GOP ticket is when I compare that to how inexperienced the #1 pick is for the Democrats. Come walk a bit in my shoes in Chicago and see exactly what Obama has done for us in our city and state: NOTHING. At least with Palin, as with Clinton, they have track records of accomplishments for the people that elected them in their respective states. I respect Hillary; Love Palin, but for the life of me, I can NOT see what people find admirable about Obama other than he is a smooth talker--who glosses over his lack of qualifications to run this country.

    • Posted By: WasHRCnowPalin @ 09/06/2008 12:21:59 PM

      Come walk in Chicago?

Not a chance... more murders in Chicago than in Iraq!!! How is Obama supposed to solve world conflict when the city he worked as a communiy organizer is more dangerous than Iraq?

Answer: He won't... he is clueless... Obama is a marketing campaign!!!!

  • Posted By: frank123 @ 09/06/2008 12:21:57 PM

Seems Patti is disingenuous. If gender doesn't matter, why is she appealing to Hillary?

  • Posted By: dismayed_in_fla @ 09/06/2008 12:19:55 PM

Your right Patti, Palin does not represent all women. She only represents those women who want to have a career, a family and still be feminine. Hillary represents women who want to be men. Or more accurately women who think they have to act like men, subjugate men and dominate them.

Palin is the embodiment of the American Woman. Intelligent, dedicated and most importantly........ real. I am so glad you just don't get it, because every time you open your mouths you add another percentage point to McCain Palin

  • Posted By: yahoo11 @ 09/06/2008 12:19:04 PM

what she should say is YOU MISSED YOUR CHANCE and ROYALLY f'd up and now lie in your own beds as the repubs smash their way through with the first female in the white house. You dont want her but you need her - that is true hypocrasy and the real reflection of how clinton was truly qualified - now you guys will have soccer mom with no serious qualifications gunning for the white house - serves you right.. Hillary SHOULD SAY NO - FIGHT YOUR OWN BATTLES! OBAMA has to win the white house for himself not use Hillary as leverage. He thought he was above the mudslinging? Guess what Republicans arent - and now he is going to have to learn what the Clinton's did - you have to fight fire with fire otherwise you lose!
