When feminists start turning on one another and giving 'worldly', albeit lame and hypocritical advice, things must be getting better. You go, girls. you go.

Barack Hussien Obama treated Hillary like a red headed step child. He showed himself to be a sexist pig throughout the primaries. I may not agree with much of the McCain platform but I will be happily voting for him in November. All of us Hillary supporters need to see that McCain is elected so Hillary can then become president in 2012. Plus maybe then Obama will fade into the ranks of has-beens like Kerry.

Do you live here too? You'll also have to live with the consequences of whoever gets elected. A spite vote would be really stupid at this time in our country's history. Try educating yourself on the issues. This isn't the high school class elections you may be used to. Vote like the adult you are.

Unless you were always going to vote Republican anyway.

Patti Davis-- thank you for a beautiful piece that is absolutely right. We need Hillary's voice and we need her to rally us so that this farce of a Republican ticket goes no further than November 4th. Picking Palin is an affront to women, given that the only reaosn she was selected was her gender. And it is truly perverse to see the Republicans commiting this kind of affirmative action given their stated abhorrencce of "entitlements."
    Thank you, Ms.Davis!

Hillay's hiding because she knows Palin means her hopes for 2012 are over, and /her only hope for 2016 if Obama wins- which must be painful.

    I bet she rallies.

Hillary needs //a substantial vote from conservative women to have a chance after the way she damaged herself with democrats, and she won't take it from Sarah.

Hillary Clinton has more class and integrity than any of these so-called supporters who would jump ship and vote for McCain and that sad excuse for a "role model" he chose as his running mate. Do they honestly think that Hillary would want them to try to elect the ticket that would give us another four years to run the economy into the ground, keep us mired in a war that's killing our young people and innocent Iraquis, alienating all our allies, diminishing our status around the world and take away a woman's right to govern her own body? I don't think so. Does anyone really think that Hillary would want them to desert the only party that has a chance of finally bringing universal health care to this country? I'd be willing to bet that most of these "Hillary supporters" are in fact more neo-cons masquerading as former Dems in the hopes they'll lure women who would have supported Clinton to their side. Sorry, but few of us are so stupid as you all seem to think we are. Hillary is a lifelong Democrat and passionate about the issues that have traditionally mattered to her party. Anyone who supported her as strongly as these women claim to have would not cast a vote that would be another defeat for her. That's disloyal and illogical, and the Republicans show how little they really think of women with that assumption. Perhaps that's no surprise considering the top of their ticket suggested his wife should enter a topless contest. How classy of him! The appeal the Republicans are trying to make to Clinton's women supporters by putting Palin on the ticket and saying how unfair we're been to Hillary is laughable. As if they wouldn't be attacking Hillary just as virulently as they are Obama if she had won the nomination. Great letter, Patti. We're with you and so is Hillary. I believe she'll show her patriotism by fighting right up to 11/3 to help put a Democratic president in the White House!

    • Posted By: jonton127 @ 09/07/2008 12:34:42 PM

Hillary is hiding because she hates Obama and everything he stands for. She knows that he's not a true Democrat. He's not even a true red-blooded American. She is a Democrat thru and thru but is thoroughly embarrassed that she will now have to pretend to be on his side. It was so obvious that they did not like each other during this whole election campaign and now she is forced to vote for him. I would hide too if I were her.

    • Posted By: Esencia08 @ 09/07/2008 1:14:19 AM

I am a staunch Hillary supporter, but Hillary is not running for president. She was not even selected to run as VP despite receiving 18 million votes from people of all backgrounds. Hillary and Obama are not the same, dont have the same qualifications either.

Anyways in case you have not reviewed the 2008 democratic national platform, Obama supports the neo-con agenda of expanding the military industrial complex. This includes the recuritment of approximately 90,000 military personnel to the armed forces.

      • Posted By: lastjournaliststanding @ 09/07/2008 11:21:27 AM

obama is also against gay marriage, and has waffled on abortion rights. no more women being held hostage to the dems.

  • Posted By: democratheart/independantmind @ 09/07/2008 12:29:30 PM

I applaud Patti Davis' calm and eloquent way of helping to pinpoint what is so unlikeable about Palin. Having a woman run is not enough. The woman needs to support the issues close to our hearts. I hope the same holds true in terms of race as well as sex. Instead of the nasty jabs at the oposing parties the candidates need to devote thier time to addreesing thier weak points. Obama needs to address national security. McCain needs to address the economy and healthcare. Enough politics as usual! We need to hear what they plan to do not waht the other party will not. I can not defend a candidate if I don't know these answers.

  • Posted By: narayankv @ 09/06/2008 10:41:27 PM

Thank you Patti Davis. We need to hear from more women like you. The choice of Palin was very clearly aimed at the women vote. No -Patti and women like her are not waiting to be told that they should not vote for McCain because of Palin as some people have beeninferring from her article. Rather, she is asking Hillary to talk to those women who seem to think that the Palin choice has suddenlychanged the whole campaign and somehow will change what a McCain administration will do. To these women Patti wants to say and wantsHillary to speak to convince them that a McCain Palin administration will achieve even less for women than what a McCain Pawlenty or aMcCain Romney administration would have. Women need to understand that the republican party is very powerful in being able to push itsagenda even with a so-called maverick like McCain. Even McCain has reversed his position on several issues to convince theconservative voters to back him. With Palin being so strongly anti choice he thought he would be hitting two targets with one stone -the conservative as well as the women voters. Jonathan Alter was right in his article - Palin is nothing but a Fox anchor in the garbof a character from 'Northern Exposure'. She represents the most conservative of the women voters. She is nothing but a prop and afront for the republican party to achieve their objectives. With the supreme court already leaning right this will be a perfect coupfor the party to complete the court line up. You can bet that the advances for women in the last 50 years will more than be wiped out. Forgetstem cell research, forget science education - rather look for the Intelligent Design in your children's school curriculum, globalwarming shmlobal warming - you heard the refrain - drill baby, drill. Look for Fox news to get its own wing in the White House. Youthink the republican party cares about the middle class? Think again. How much more convincing do you need to understand that the Iraqwar was totally contrived. Yes - I heard that McCain hates wars, then why did he not question the Bush administration during the runup to the war? Yes- the surge worked - full credit to him; but is it really credit to pull your car out of a ditch when you were theone who drove it into the ditch first? At what cost? With a McCain administration the saber rattling with Iran and Russia will notstop. And Palin is barely knowledgeable with the geography, let alone understand the foriegn policy aspects of internationalrelations. Republicans like Sarah Palin because she is anti choice - that is it. After that every thing else just is reinforcement ofpersonality and bluster of conservative talk. Their moral certitude makes these people believe in anything as long as their core fanatical principles are followed. If Sarah Palin was everything that she was, but was Pro Choice you would have seen these very same conservaitves trash her. And this is the choice that women want? Another 8 years of retrograde path?

OK, now I've read some of the other coments. Wow. I am so sad. I am as much of a womens rights, Hillary supporter as any of you but you have got to be kidding!!!! You sound like a bunch of stereotypical, emotional, unthinking women. You are going to switch your vote from a woman who is pro-choice, for family leave, for health care, for education, not going to give tax breaks to the rich, etc. etc. etc. over to a woman who doesn't believe in choice for women even in the case of rape, wants to keep sex-ed out of schools, wants ban books from libraries, wants to teach creationism in schools, said the war was "God's Will", etc. etc. etc. just because you prefer her gender and you like that she is a pistol of a personality? REALLY???????? Is this what we have fought for?

    • Posted By: jonton127 @ 09/07/2008 12:22:36 PM

The wonderful thing about Sarah Palin that you seem to miss is she has personal beliefs, yes, but she does NOT let that interfere with her decisions about what is right for our country. She DOES NOT want to take away women's right. She never changed those things that you have listed in Alaska. Yes, those are her personal beliefs but that DOES NOT mean that she will force you and I to live by her standards. She stands for FREEDOM in this country which Barrack Obama DOES NOT stand for. She means to keep our country safe and prosperous. Not sell us out to the highest bidder whether that be someone here trying to take it away from us or from other countries. Look at what she has actually accomplished in Alaska then look at what Obama has accomplished. Which do you want to run your country?

    • Posted By: lastjournaliststanding @ 09/07/2008 11:20:18 AM

this isn't about abortion rights. it's about national security. we're in two wars.

  • Posted By: compvis @ 09/06/2008 11:21:13 PM

Some of you here say the Sarah Palin doesnt share your feelings on womens issues such as abortion. Well my many women don't agree with your position on Abortion. I thought that the ultimate womens issue is equality. Isnt that what the fight has been about before and after sufferage. Equality in the ballot box, equality at home, equality in the work place. Electiing Sarah Palin to the the second highest office in the land will do more for equality than 50 years of the womens movement. Not until women have equality in politics, (the place by the way that laws are made) women will never have the power to pass all the other laws that are important to women.

    • Posted By: tarafff @ 09/06/2008 11:30:06 PM

Nice try, for she and McCain to be appointing judges that will make women go to back alley doctors when they can't have their baby isn't a step forward for women. To have them take away sex-ed and birth control funding won't solve the problem. Not to mention having a whiny, snipy, mean spirited speech that reminded me of the high school girls picking on the unpopular girls doesn't help our gender out at all. No, I think we can wait for a better role model, thanks anyway.

      • Posted By: jonton127 @ 09/07/2008 12:05:06 PM

Nice try to you but even if Sarah Palin is Pro-Life, she never voted to take the rights away from women. She believes that the Federal government should NOT be making those decisions. Those decisions are to be left up to the States to decide. She doesn't intend to take any rights away from women. She only intends to clean up our corrupt government, make sure that we continue as a FREE democratic nation that can provide a safe terrorist free country for the hardworking citizens and give back what we have worked so hard all of our lives to attain. Just like she did for the citizens of Alaska, she will do for the entire United States if you give her a chance.

In case you didnt know, 7 out of the 9 supreme court justices have been appointed during republican administrations. Roe Vs. Wade has not been overturned yet. Furthermore, the judicial branch is not supposed to be pressured by the narrow interests of political party factions, because in this manner the constitution could be easily subverted. Perhaps this is why all those republican appointed supreme court justices have not overturned Roe Vs. Wade thus far. This does not mean it cannot happen in the future, but worst case scenario is that the matter would become an issue for individual states to decide.

    • Posted By: old91A10 @ 09/07/2008 1:57:42 AM

Besides, most issues begin and end in Congress. I guess the faux, nouveau liberals can not trust the expected solid Democratic majorities in the House and Senate (excepting their demonstrated duplicity, equivocation, and cowardice),

For my money, there is nothing better than keeping any one party from holding all the cards, especially under these circumstances where both ought to be repairing themselves.

So, I have no problem voting for Senator McCain and Governor Palin. I am trusting that they will be able to work with a receptive Democratic House and Senate to improve our Country while both parties undergo rehabilitation.

In the meantime, across the board, both parties, citizens and politicians, media wags and readers agree: zerObama and gliBiden are wusses, and need a grrrl to do their fighting and heavy liftinhg!

ROFL... got2bu? Shoot... any of you zapping these profound and serious opinions here? Some of us were taught: "Consider the source" and so I considered Patti Davis (Reagan), and wow... googling her is an.. er... eye-popper. Literally.

I suggest you go to "images" in google, and enter our fair columnist???s name... Patti Davis... and then just the one word: Playboy.

The Playboy photo of her is on their front cover and... er... clearly illustrates Patti's liberal views about sex, color, free love, modesty, and ... weel, you???ll get the picture! Or, maybe you'd rather not get it?

Patti with her mediocre, simplistic writing skills, would, I think, be an embarrassment to Hillary Clinton and also Obama... not because Patti is still supporting H.C., but because she is actually rather an embarrassing person just to have as an acquaintance. What one would tend to forgive because of ... well we cannot say ???youth??? (she was 41 years old when she posed for Playboy) becomes something of a drag in a 55-year-old Golden Gurl.

It's enough to turn a person into a... (let me whisper the word...) conservative!

The Palin-McCain ticket is bankrupt in ideas. McCain has voted with Bush over 95% of the time, but he acts like he is going to "go to Washington" to make changes. He has been part of a Republican government that has led for much of the past 8 years. We are now $10 trillion in debt (much of it to Russia, China and Saudi Arabia), fighting two wars, have weakened ability to respond to any other global crisis, have a lowered standing within the world

Palin is short on facts, weak on real experience (seriously - dig into the "accomplishments" in Alaska before giving her much credit for anything), incredibly smug, undiplomatic and prone to lies and exaggeration. I do not see anything presidential about her.

Obama is a born leader with real ideas and a true desire to make changes. He has reached across parties lines on many occasions. His ideas for health care reform, true tax cuts for 85% of Americans and his ability to raise America's status on a global stage will really move America forward.

    • Posted By: jonton127 @ 09/07/2008 11:33:55 AM

Sarah Palin is such a breath of fresh air in this stagnant sespool of politicans. She has a fantastic record for rolling up her sleeves and digging into the dirt. McCain's nomination of her has totally re-energized me and my beliefs in the American way! She hasn't been a Governor but 2 years and her accomplishments for getting in there and cleaning up the corrupt Politicians and taking on the "Good Ole Boy" system is OUTSTANDING. Finally someone sensible comes along. Someone who is wholeheartedly a good person, who is extremely Patriotic and not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. McCain's nomination of her as his running mate made me take a look at him in a whole new light. There IS someone who hasn't forgotten 9/11 or all the troops that are FIGHTING for our freedom. Obama supporters want to throw away all of the hundreds of years that we have fought for freedom in this country. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat. Whether your skin is black, white, yellow, red or green! He IS NOT a true African-American in the true sense of the word! His family were slave owners, not slaves. Why do black people want to sell out their rich heritage to this person? I just do NOT understand it.

    • Posted By: old91A10 @ 09/07/2008 2:10:43 AM

Governor Palin has more experience than zerObama, by any measure. How's that for you? The Republican Number 2 out ranks the Democratic Number 1.

I can not wait for the few debates that zerObama and gliBiden did not chicken out on. Don't worry though. If it gets rough, McCain and Palin won't have to call in back up. That's what this post is about, isn't it? Obama and Biden can't hack it alone.

  • Posted By: M Yarbrough @ 09/06/2008 8:10:28 PM

Hillary will soon be coming forward to campaign even more for the Obama/Biden ticket. As a thinking person, she knows the inspiring ticket of Obama-Biden is the best choice for America. I urge, wish, pray that all Americans, voters and non, Dems, Repubs, Indies -- realize that the reason this election is so close is because of the elephant in the room, and I'm not referring to the GOP mascot. Let's really take a look at ourselves and come to some truths. We are a better country. Let's not be hypocrites.

Please, Senator Clinton, make the case as only you can! Gov. Palin would not only legislate women's rights away, she would set back women in office for a long time to come. It is pathetic to listen to the Republicans steal the Democrats' slogans, to hear Karl Rove say Palin is qualified when he thought Gov. Kane wasn't, to watch as all the work of many, many women over many, many years could be washed away. For everyone's sake, but especially for the daughterso f American, please speak forcefully against Ms. Palin. Thank you.

The only thing letting her ride this gravy train is her sex and her far right wing views.

Women supported HIllary because she is smart, has foreign policy experience, knows the issues women are concerned about and is professional and, most importantly, presidential. The assumprion that women would back Palin just because she is a woman is so insulting. Thank you for writing this.

I struggle to understand the hullabaloo over Mr. Obama. As a black person living in America , I personally think it is a disgrace that folks rush to elevate a man who was complicit in the self-destruction of the black community. For 20 years he sat by and allowed trusting black folks to wallow in the self-defeatism dished out by Rev. Wright. This is the same defeatist thought that is echoed through the African-American community today. Where was the message of "HOPE & CHANGE"? Where was the "YES WE CAN" cry when it was needed most? Who better to transform that backward thinking group than someone unscathed by the 60s? Just think what could have been if Mr. Obama had shown a modicum of leadership (or at the very least walked away). But he did absolutely nothing! Just thinking of his non-action send chills through my bones and evokes a wellspring of sadness that will never be assuaged.

I am even more grateful today that I was blessed with parents whose vision have long transcended race. Failing that, I and siblings could have easily been among the causalities of the missteps and missed opportunities that were there for the taking after the Civil Rights era. The selfless action by Mart in Luther who paid the ultimate price is who should be lauded as being a hero "for all of us that have dreams and hope". That is, he did what was right without a single thought of the personal gains (or harm) to himself.

Finally, I would challenge every voter this November to think well on this and ask yourself if you could with a clear conscience give this man a pass - I cannot. For we become who we are by the folks we look to as heroes.

If you want a female to fight for Obama, ASK PELOSI to do it. She has been bought by Obama, she should be fine as Obama's hack.

But of course, Pelosi, despite her pretense is a nobody.

    • Posted By: lastjournaliststanding @ 09/07/2008 11:09:21 AM

And that loser Carter was openly against the dream ticket. He said it would be like magnifying their many negatives. As if folks have ambitions of dining with the President & the VP?

  • Posted By: narayankv @ 09/06/2008 11:31:53 PM

Don't confuse Sarah Palin as VP with getting equality for women. There were other occasions when this was possible with even more capable women in the republican party - Elizabeth Dole for one. How come they did not make it? No-Palin will do nothing for your equality rights. Unless the fundamental thinking of the republican party changes it will not happen. Maybe she will be the one, but sometimes if things appear too good to be true, there is a good reason to suspect them.

    • Posted By: compvis @ 09/06/2008 11:56:32 PM

Maybe i'm missing something here. Ronald Regan (a Republican) put the first women on the Supreme coart, George Bush (a Republican) put the first women as the Secretary of State. Did Clinton or Carter ever make such high appointments.? No. I was disapointed Elisebeth didnt run in place of Bob back a few years back. Oh and buy the way Obama had a chance to put a women on the ticket for 18 million complelling reasons and he didnt. I think maybe you got your criticism here of the wrong party. You cant change the laws unless you are in power. Women will never be equal untill wome hold a place where every young girl can dream about being President just like boys have been doing for two hundred years.Oh and buy the way sometimes and to some people important womens issues are education, equality and safety, not just abortion, or wha you beleive about creation.

      • Posted By: narayankv @ 09/07/2008 12:06:42 AM

I cannot say why Obama did not choose Clinton, but I doubt it had anything against women. Regardless of what Clinton would have brought to the ticket there were a number of aspects that would have run contra to his message. Besides - how many of those 18 million were votes by conservatives who wanted Hillary so they could beat her in the general campaign? Besides - these would not have been the questions if McCain had not chosen a woman. Granted, that is an opportunity McCain found to capitalize on - precisely to create these debates. Palin does not bring any of Hillary's issues - only the gender. That is the whole point of Patti Davis' article.

        • Posted By: lastjournaliststanding @ 09/07/2008 11:19:12 AM

"contra to his message"?????? he put a six term senator running for his seventh, 66 years old with a history of aneurysms who in 8 years will be 74 and running for president on the ticket. are you out of your mind? obama-clinton would have won easily. they'd have taken ohio, for starters, and no republican has ever won without ohio. they'd have taken arkansas, and i think bill would have gotten west virginia. they'd take new hampshire easily. they'd hold michigan. don't you see? obama walked into waterloo. mccain posed as a bumbling old man, got him overconfident. he's a disaster.

        • Posted By: old91A10 @ 09/07/2008 1:26:47 AM

"... by conservatives ... so they could beat her...."
Did you miss all of the GE match-up polls as well as the actual Democratic Primary tally, or are you delusional?

Besides, the Repuplican Party was running a pretty spirited and chock-full primary -- there weren't many people throwing away their vote.

Would you, naraynkv, ever vote that way as a quirky tactic? Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, ..., when a person bothers to go vote, it is highly unlikely they will waste it in such a far fetched manner -- unless money or drugs are involved.
