Here we go again putting the snazzy new guy in charge because the older woman was so yesterday and then realizing that the company doesn't actually run when there is no one in charge. Well no dice let oh blah blah fight his own battles.

Actually Sarah Palin has tremendous appeal even to democratic women. We are reaching across the aisle to work with our fellow republicans just like Obama told us he would. Palin may not believe in abortion but I can respect and work with someone and understand their concerns and not agree with them. In spite of what the blogs would have you believe Palin supports contraception and does not want to abolish the teaching of evolution from schools. I can admire the fact that she took on the good old boys in her town and then even fought and beat an entrenched governor and a former governor all based on standing up for what is right. And then in the short time she ahs been governor she got a large part of what she promised done -most importantly the deal that the prior governor said the oil companies would never agree to. All women should be proud of Palin and her accomplishments.

Obama and his shills want to make our support for women to only be about Roe v Wade but it isn't. It is about supporting strong women who fight for good things. I may not agree with Palin on choice but I sure agree with her stance against corruption and making government work for (in her case ) Alaskans. They now have a bigger share in the wealth of their state because of her.

If women had voted their identity Hillary would be our nominee and this wouldn???t be an issue. It is way too late to think that Hillary should save you from your wrong choices now.

      'old blah blah' love it.

  • Posted By: marylu @ 09/07/2008 9:58:44 AM

More than asking Hillary to speak for us, we should be speaking up for ourselves. I am insulted and outraged by the Republicans thinking that women will vote for anyone just because she is a woman, whether or not she shares our values or where she stands on our issues. What kind of role model is a woman who essentially describes herself as a pit bull with lipstick, goes back to work within days of giving birth to a special needs child, and leaves her pregnant teenage daughter to care for the baby? Can you imagine, if it were Hillary's daughter that was unmarried and pregnant at seventeen, what these Palinistas would have said? They would have berated progressives for having no morals, for letting our personal ambitions override our maternal responsibilities, etc etc ad infinitum. OK, so the daughter is off limits, but the VP candidate is not. No free pass for Sarah Palin!

And to the disgruntled Clintonistas trying to milk this situation: wake up and smell the BS. Do not place on Senator Clinton the burden of your own frustrations. Take a page out of her book and show some class, like she is doing. Work to elect Obama-Biden, like she is doing. .

I'm sick and tired of being talked down to by the likes of you. The Democratic party needs to be purged of the ultra-left. You just present more of the same that the ultra-right has already given.

As your leader likes to say: "you don't get it". This isn't about abortion, that's not even on Obama's platform. This is about the middle of America. Hillary had a better chance with them and the Democratic left's eagerness to take power has threw that away.

Now that you made your bed, you can sleep in it.

I caught Obama's INTERVIEW with O'Reilly where he wouldn't admit that he was wrong about the surge. Didn't you see any of the Democratic debates? Hillary outdebated Obama every time - he may be great with a telepromter - but he is NOT quick on his toes in debates or on the stump. As to Palin - I guess unless you are from Alaska you will have to wait and see her debate Biden to decide if she is a good debater. As to a 'Hillary Supporter' who now supports Palin being shallow - I guess shallow is supporting the word "Change' without any substance - from either candidate. Keep slinging the mud.

How about going into Iraq in the first place. Can you answer that question? Hmmmmmmmm

      • Posted By: JennyMoore @ 09/07/2008 11:09:26 AM

I believe that going into Iraq was fine with McCain based on the false information given - but from the beginning he clearly stated that we should only do it with the FORCE and TROOP LEVELS Neccesary and warned that we were not putting enough troops in. Go back and check out the facts. McCain knew what needed to be done in order to do it right - but of course no one listened until the surge.

I'm a Korean Vet who opposed going into Iraq. Does this qualify me to become President.. Like a lot of other people who came up the ladder the hard way we worked for it . Obama is a neiphyte who needs to start from the bottom and like the rest of us work up the ladder. Only Jesus Christ at 33 had the right to bypass everyone else becasue He is GOD. i hope you people don't believe Obama is GOD? .

The Palin-McCain ticket is bankrupt in ideas. McCain has voted with Bush over 95% of the time, but he acts like he is going to "go to Washington" to make changes. He has been part of a Republican government that has led for much of the past 8 years. We are now $10 trillion in debt (much of it to Russia, China and Saudi Arabia), fighting two wars, have weakened ability to respond to any other global crisis, have a lowered standing within the world

Palin is short on facts, weak on real experience (seriously - dig into the "accomplishments" in Alaska before giving her much credit for anything), incredibly smug, undiplomatic and prone to lies and exaggeration. I do not see anything presidential about her.

Obama is a born leader with real ideas and a true desire to make changes. He has reached across parties lines on many occasions. His ideas for health care reform, true tax cuts for 85% of Americans and his ability to raise America's status on a global stage will really move America forward.

    • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/07/2008 8:47:52 AM

Nice try - it is the McCain-Palin ticket vs. Obama-Biden ticket. Why do folks persist in trying to compare Palin with Obama to reframe what the choice should be? The VP pick is just an appendage. Are folks up in arms over Biden - his age, his accomplishments (nada). So it is being sexist to knock Palin.

      • Posted By: jonton127 @ 09/07/2008 11:07:51 AM

Move forward? If by moving forward you mean becoming a socialist country, then you are right, he will move us forward. What is wrong that you people cannot see that he intends to ruin our country? Besides it is not the Bush administration's fault that we are in debt for trillions. That fault belongs to the Clinton administration. He could have prevented 9/11/01 from happening and he did NOTHING to apprehend Obama Sin Ladin. He deflated our military. Closed bases, took away the funding to keep equipment in working order. Does anyone voting for Obama REMEMBER that our country was ATTACKED by terrorists? No one that had a loved one killed on 9/11 could possibly be voting for Barrack Hussein Obama!! He is an abomination to this country. I can't believe we have even allowed him to be running for President of the United States!

  • Posted By: lastjournaliststanding @ 09/07/2008 11:03:00 AM

this is outrageous. obama insulted women by not even bothering to vet hillary after she actually won more votes than him! mccain trapped him. acted like a bumbling old man. made him over-confident. so he picks a 66 year old senator going into a 7th term, with a history of brain aneurysms. same guy who in 8 years will be 74 and runnning for president. why is it hillary's job, again, to be the waitress and napkin holder for the men? women are sick of being held hostage to the dems. your column is so weak. mommy! mommy! save me from the bad people.

I wonder what color the sky is in Ms. Davis' world. Palin "rude and "snarki??" Palin can't hold a candle to ole Hill's "rudennes and snarkiness."

Ms. Davis is simply distraught because the republican party found a better speaker (in Palin) for their brand of political rhetoric than the dems did (in B. Hussein Obama). Arguably Palin's not much more qualified to be president than B. Hussein, but that's why she's running as VICE president.

Hillary's tears over our country where no more real than Davis' sincerity when she states : " We respect the right of other women to raise and educate their children the way they see fit." Except, of course if you disagree with the political and social left-wing.

I am a Hillary supporter and I am delighted to see Sarah Palin on the Ticket. I support her because I have a daughter. Democratic party has become an Anti-Women party. DNC, Kennedy, Dean, Pelosi ET AL. destroyed the only legitimate Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, because she was a strong candidate and put this Obama idiot. Democratic party wants women to stay home, get pregnant and get ABORTION.

        Shyam,

Keep up the faith. Don't let these fear-mongerers dissuade you.

These goons are the very people who insulted Hillary Clinton supporters during the primaries. What they fail to question is why their leader Obama can't close the deal with the American people. This is the very argument Hillary gave during the primaries (when she actually won the popular vote). Now Obama is paying the price--he has alienated his own party and the rest of America. What kind of President does he hope to be by promoting so much divisiveness?

We're doomed as a nation if Obama is President. It will be four more years of bi-partisan gridlock.

Don't let these goons tell you otherwise, McCain is not Bush! He was a Maverick before the prince coined the term 'change' and before it was popular (don't forget the Maverick lost in 2000 for his convictions). With Palin, McCain WILL unite this divided country.

This letter is absurd. As Hillary herself said, "When is Obama going to close the deal?".

Obama, You are pathetic. You yourself can not cinch the votes needed to be the President. You should have thought of this inevitability before you humiliated Hillary Clinton and her supporters. Your divisive and take-no-prisoners tactics during the primaries has done its damage and now it is too late. I pray you go back to Chicago.

I'll be glad when this thing is over. In fact I'd rather just see California, Texas, New York and half a dozen other states secede so we can stop having this useless debate every 4 years. Depending on your political affiliation, you'd have a place "to go" and fit right in.

Let me clarify my "Amen", since I was fired up when I typed it. I don't really think seceding from the union would help our cause. I think seceding would be a LITTLE rash. It's easy for me to get mad and think like you and say, "yeah, go secede then we'll have peace." But that's not really the answer is it? I think the answer is that regardless of who is elected, we need to support where we can, and "cope" with the rest.

Hiillary should say: DNC we have a problem - I told you so many months ago. It is clear I had good judgment to know what Americans are looking for in a leader in these trying times. Let us now reconvene the convention as a matterof priority and go through the proper process to arrive at who best can win in November. But to do so is a moot point as everyone (except the Obamabots) know that I am the One the Country have been waiting for all these years. I am the one who have been consistently honing my know-how since my teenage years to one day lead this great nation. Unlike the self-absorbed, coke sniffing, egotist Obama who believe that he is annointed by God - a Messiah (false)

I too want to hear from Hillary and any other powerful female democrat, i.e. Pelosi. I resent the fact that the Republicans are forcing us to accept Palin and her family and morale dramas as representative of a normal American family. Which American family are they referring to? Since when is it OK to for a 17 yr-old to marry her boyfriend? What do they know about love and what it takes to make a marriage work? All this pro-life crap and so-called Christian values only lead to poorly adjusted children and an unhappy marriage or divorced parents.

We need a woman with a voice to ensure that this country and its women are not mislead.

    • Posted By: Esencia08 @ 09/07/2008 2:41:28 AM

About 50 years ago it was the norm for young women and men to marry in their teenage years. Although this may not be the pathway that the majority of americans take now due to social and economic changes it does not mean it is not normal. After all the biology of humans is designed for females to start having children in their teenage years. Obama's mother gave birth to him at 18.

To zyxwvut: No - Palin did not shut down the Bridge to nowhere - it was already on its way down and she was just there when it formally was done. But the money allocated was not returned - it was left with Alaska for other projects - over 223 million dollars. Do you know of any state that receives more pork funding per capita? Check it out! Sarah Palin deserves credit for those cuts that she was responsible for. But don't extrapolate that to say that she is going to bring down the deficit. It is a long way up there. If McCain could not do it in 30 years (22 of which were under republican administrations) what makes you think she will do it?

    • Posted By: zyxwvut @ 09/06/2008 11:35:35 PM

      Check the record.

      Earmarks requested:

McCain = $0 in his entire Senate career

      Obama = $91 million in 2007 alone

OK, so you were wondering who could hold down spending. Who has a record of doing that? Go ahead and make your case.....

      • Posted By: narayankv @ 09/06/2008 11:50:11 PM

        Check this out: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/05/mccains_fantasy_war_on_earmark.html
"McCain's talk about eliminating $100 billion a year in earmarks is largely fantasy. His advisers are now promoting a more realistic plan of eliminating $100 billion in overall spending. But it is difficult to take even that promise very seriously given the fact that the senator refuses to identify exactly which projects he will be cut."
        -
        Or this:
        -
        http://thinkprogress.org/2008/01/06/mccain-earmark/
        -
McCain???s claim is false. In 2006, the senator teamed up with fellow Arizona senator Jon Kyl (R) to funnel $10 million toward the University of Arizona for an academic center named after the late Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. Even Arizona lawmaker, Rep. Jeff Flake (R), said he was planning to ???lean against the measure.??? The National Taxpayers Union, another traditional McCain ally, questioned why the senator was making federal taxpayers foot the bill for the center.
        -
In 2003, McCain also slipped $14.3 million into a defense appropriations bill to
create a buffer zone around Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. As Roll Call reported in 2003, this project violated McCain???s own anti-pork rhetoric:
        -
The only problem is the project to acquire more land near the base was not requested by President Bush or fully authorized by the Senate Armed Services Committee - two of McCain???s criteria for identifying so-called ???pork.
        -
Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), a notorious porker, was overjoyed that McCain had joined his side. ???One man???s pork is another man???s alternate white meat,??? said Stevens. ???If he asked for it, we put it in.???

OK, so let's play along with the figures you cite. I won't even argue them.

In the past 5 years, you cite that McCain earmarked $24.5 million in spending in his home state.

In 2007 alone, Obama requested almost 4 times that amount - in only 1 year. And that from a guy who missed most of the year campaigning.

So again, you believe that Obama will hold down spending better than McCain? I'd love to understand your thinking.

Remember what Sarah said in her speech about being a mayor that left her town with a surplus? SARAH LIED! More truths are coming out.

The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.

"It's too bad that the city of Wasilla didn't do their homework and secure the land before they began construction," said Kathy Wells, a longtime activist here. "She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly."

"If people are going to be voting on her based on her experience as Wasilla's mayor, then they should know how she did in the job,"

    • Posted By: Esencia08 @ 09/07/2008 2:05:43 AM

Sarah Palin did leave her position as mayor of her town with a surplus budget. If people want to confirm this all they have to do is go to the city of wasilla website. The current mayor has listed on the site a number of documents during Palin's tenure as city councilwoman and mayor. I reviewed the budget report from her last two years in office, she definitely left a surplus.

Alot of the stories that initially surfaced about Palin after she was announced as McCain's VP were simply rumors and disinformation.

This country needs a strong president and Obama doesn't fit that bill that's why he picked Biden because Biden has a big mouth and it go him in trouble at one time. The only reason Hillary might campaign for Obama is because she doesn't want to lose her senate seat. I definately know that Bill Clinton does not like Obama and neither does Hillary. That is just a pretense. And knowing how Hillary got cheated the women of this country should vote for McCain to give Obama and Pelosi a slap in the face. That is what I am doing. Why let him get away with it. Palin is like me. I would have dared Pelosi to do to me what she did to Hillary and I would have laid it into her in no uncertain terms. Hillary didn't do that. Cancelled out her roll call and only allowed 32 states to count their delegates. Obama is arrogant and needs to be put in his place and Plain will do it.

Sarah Palin has allowed herself to be the sarcastic, snarky puppet of a bunch of white men afraid of losing an election. Her behavior is exactly what I advise my two young girls against. No role model. No vote from me or most of the other intelligent and thoughtful Hillary supporters. Blindling throwing our support upon this fully unqualified political gimmick makes me sad for women everyone.

This comment is ridiculous and snarky, in and of itself. Governor Sarah Palin has truly worked her way up the ladder.

Look at whom the DNC is expecting to do the heavy lifting -- their favorite whipping and go to grrrrl, Senator Hillary Clinton.

Finally, I seriously doubt that Buffalogal is female -- misogynistic to the bone.
