Once again we see that the rich and well connected get a different kind of justice than us common folk.

There is something just unseemly about this whole matter. Why is Palin, the reformer, impeding a bi-partisan investigation into the conduct of her office. I guess ethics matter only when its someone else's ethics. Her attorney also stepped over the line by disclosing information improperly obtained during an investigation. I understand that the move is an attempt to deflate the story. But that's not possible. The American people know nothing about her. Last week, no one knew her name, now she somehow is known defies credulity. Once again, we are setting ourselves up to be the laughing stock of the world. Those who travel outside of the country can attest to that fact. McCain by picking an unknown, who he is trying to keep unknown, has forfeited any right to the white house. The media must be held accountable this time. McCain said the first criteria for VP was that the person was ready to be president on day one. Even republicans concede, she would not be ready, if she had to be on January 20, 2009. America wake up.

On the question of racial discrimination, the Addis Ababa Conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson: That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil.

We Alaskans WANT this investigation. We want the TRUTH. Sarah said "Hold Me Accountable" This investigation is fair and it will hold her and Todd and the other 24 people who rallied to her wishes accountable. If McCain can get this investigation scrubbed, then America will get what it deserves IFit elects McCain-Palin. I want to vote republican, but I can't with Sarah on the ticket.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 6:13:09 AM

Just curious. Why do you want to vote Republican?

Mrs. Palin apparently has a history of this type of "removal", from Wassila to Juneau. However, The trooper that she had it out for sounds, from various reports, like a real you-know-what. In every city there are stories of police and state troopers who routinely abuse their oath and are shifted around, seldom fired, short of murdering someone. However much I disagree with her politics, this guy was abusive and arrogant.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 6:10:59 AM

Everything you state about the trooper may be accurate. But he is not the issue. The issue is whether or not a public official used her powers for personal purposes. This issue is very acute for a person who claims to be a reformer.

It seems you might be right about this "former brother-in-law" of Sarah Palin's. But, when we are being told about Sarah Palin's "executive experience", they are not telling us that this governor could not even figure out a way to "have justice done" without possibly abusing the power of her office!!! It also appears that she has no idea of what "abuse of power" is. And what's the deal with her husband's alleged involvement? She's the governor, isn't she?

  • Posted By: abadreview @ 09/06/2008 12:44:06 AM

if she's innocent, then what are they worried about?

Looks like we have a lot of Obamacons working the internet today. They really should be ashamed of themselves. The Democrats are desperate to derail this woman. She is squashing Obama like a bug on the windshield. As usual, the dems cannot win the argument on ideas and policy so they resort to 24/7 smears of one of the finest ladies in America. If that fails, they assume the Republican position (drilling offshore, the surge, FISA court, no immediate Iraq pullout, etc.).

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 6:05:13 AM

Polls do not indicate any "squashing." And when are you going to start discussing "ideas and policy." You just had a four day convention of smears that ignored every major economic issue facing America. There were plenty of personal attacks and remarks about an "uppity" opposition. How do you know Palin is one "of the finest ladies in America?" You know her and all of the other 150 million American ladies personally? You would have to in order to make an informed judgment.

    • Posted By: Audrey704 @ 09/06/2008 4:02:09 AM

One of the finest ladies in America? Go do your homework. McCain had a large selection of well qualified, pre-vetted, fine ladies to choose from, and he chose this. We don't know enough about her but the more we learn the more we know what they sold us at the convention is not the whole truth. Or maybe you just meant she's pretty....great another voter who can be sold on smoke, mirrors and little touch up paint.

    • Posted By: mary_lou @ 09/06/2008 1:52:13 AM

Hmm.. i think you should be the one ashamed of yourself for believing in the lies McBush and co. came up with. The scandal and the investigation into whether or not Ms. Palin abused her power has been going on long before she was first introduced to the national and international scene.

I don't know why anyone is swooned by Ms. Palin's apparent sarcasm the other night. OOh right she didn't the speech herself.. she just regurgitate other's peoples words. so you can't hold her accountable.

All I can say is I hope and pray that the American people will not make the same mistake and elect the party that got us into this mess.

Ms. Palin is doing quite alright faking that she knows something even though she doesn't know much. After all, what do you expect a former Sportscaster to not be able to READ a teleprompter? I'm a woman and I would love to see the glass ceiling cracked ans shattered, but not by this UNQUALIFIED woman. I really don't know anyone who attended 5 different OBSCURE universities in 6 years to earn a B.A. in Journalism? Is it that HARD when average American should be able to finish in 4 years?

Many people would, of course, be able to relate Ms. Palin, but do we really want to elect somebody who is no better than the average American? I, for one, want a leader who knows how to set a good example and lead us to a new and better direction.

All I heard in her well-delivered speech on Wednesday night is sarcasm. I have no doubt she's a pitbull.. After all, how could she laugh at some radio talk show host making fun of a cancer survivor about cancer. I, for one, do not want a leader who behaves like that. And yeah, when she belittled Barack's time as a community organizer in his early twenty.. Guess what she was doing at that time? She was partying hard at 5 different colleges while trying to finish B.A. degree in Journalism. It's really not fair to compare what she was doing in her 30s with his experience when he was 22. Maybe you want to compare being a small town mayor (a town of size 5000 people) with his years as a professor at the University of Chicago Law School teaching Constitutional Law. People, please exercise your judgement when you vote.

You should be ashamed of yourself for believing McSame's lies. This scandal and investigation has been going on ever since she was introduced to the national scene, because there was something really fishy and stinky about this woman's conduct.

And I still don't get how anyone can be swooned by this woman's sarcasm.. all I can say is I hope and pray that the American people will not make the same mistake and elect the party that got us into this mess.

Give me a break! This whole Troopergate thing is nothing but a witch hunt--she did nothing wrong, the person at fault is Monegan for not firing this maniac state trooper Mike Wooten.

And the person in charge of the investigation, Hollis French, has been exposed as a partisan Democrat Obama supporter who has leaked information damaging to Governor Palin. http://www.notwrightforamerica.com has the details that you won't get from the liberal media, Flopping Aces has a good post on this too.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 5:57:19 AM

I repeat myself-why are you against an investigation that would uncover and disclose all of your "facts" and prove you correct?

  • Posted By: patiens @ 09/06/2008 2:41:53 AM

Does anyone remember WHITEWATER, VINCE FOSTER, MISSING RECORDS, and the many who went to prison while the democratic pres and his wife flourished? This is such a pale witch hunt in comparison.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 5:55:17 AM

The reason that "Bill and Hill" were not harmed by the investigation is that nothing was found after $70 million was spent by Ken Starr. If you are so sure that you are right, why are you against proving it?

  • Posted By: oneluckywoman @ 09/06/2008 3:17:33 AM

The press is leaving out the rest of the story on troopergate. Palin never ordered any trooper by name to be fired. As Govenor, Palin was made aware of many circumstances of wreckless behavior and abuse on the force, not just those of her ex brother in law. Palin demanded the Commissioner retrain all state troopers on among other things, proper use of weapons, and on duty substance abuse. Palin gave 6 mos for the Commissioner to retrain troops and turn things around on the force. He did nothing and was fired. The Commissioner only said he ???believed??? he was fired for not terminating Palin???s ex brother in law, but admits he was never ordered to fire him, nor was his name ever singled out or mentioned.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 5:52:08 AM

Then why not have the investigation and have the results disclose all of the "facts" you cited? Squelching an investigation only leads people to believe that something is being covered up.

    • Posted By: Columnist @ 09/06/2008 5:47:08 AM

Then why not have the investigation and have the "facts" you cited uncovered by the investigators? Then you will be proven correct. Squelching an investigation is only going to result in people thinking that there is wrongdoing being coverd up.

    • Posted By: McPalin @ 09/06/2008 3:42:51 AM

Great then - I'd love to see all these facts in the official report. Let the independent investigator do his job.

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #5: THE "TAX CUT" LIES
McCain accused Obama of trying to raise taxes. But Obama has continually advocated tax cuts for the middle-class with annual salaries of less than $250,000.00, which is about 98% of the population. However, McCain doesn't tell the public his health insurance plan is going to effectively raise taxes for all Americans that have health insurance, while making permanent tax cuts for the riches upper 2% of Americans.

    .
    [6.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #6: THE "BRIDGE TO NOWHERE" LIES
Sarah Palin claimed on several occasions that she turned down $350-million of federal government earmarks for the "bridge to nowhere". But what actually happened is Sarah campaigned to get the money for the "bridge to nowhere", then flip-flopped after McCain voted the bridge down when she won the Governor's office. Ironically, Alaska still got the 'bridge to nowhere' funds but it was used instead to build a "highway to nowhere".

    .
    [7.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #7: THE "PLANE SALE ON EBAY" LIES
Sarah Palin insinuated she sold state plane on EBay for a profit, and more recently McCain repeated it as a fact that the plane was actually sold on EBay for a profit. That lie has now been debunked, and the good Christian Sarah Palin has no shame that she was caught in another lie. The plane could not sell on EBay so it was taken down and sold "privately for a lost".

    .
    [8.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #8: THE "ABSTINENCE-ONLY" LIES
Sarah Palin as an Ultra Extreme Religious-Right advocate uses her State office bully-pulpit to knock down public school sex-education, while plugging her "abstinence-only" religious views to public schools. Ironically, her 17-year old daughter Bristol fails to practice the "abstinence before marriage" views her mother is trying to push in Alaska schools. Then Sarah tries to hide it with another lie by telling the school where Bristol attends that her daughter must drop out because she has Mono. Sarah continued to hold fast to the Mono lie until rumors break loose just after her VP announcement. It was only then the "abstinence-only" hypocrite came clean.

    [9.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #9: THE "TROOPER-GATE" LIES
Sarah Palin claimed she never called the State Trooper Magistrate to have her ex-brother-in-law fired. Soon after investigators got on the seen, emails were retrieved to dispute that fact, and now all seven of Sarah's state appointees have refused to testify. It has been learned that more than 20+ plus calls were made to the State Trooper Magistrate regarding the firing of Sarah's brother-in-law, and because the seven witnesses have 'lawyered-up', the investigators must use subpoenas to get the seven that initially volunteered to testify to give an account of what happened.

    .
    [10.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #10: THE "POLITICS BEFORE COUNTRY" LIES
McCain and Rove accused Obama of picking Virginia Governor Tim Kane as VP for political expediency, and also because Tim Kane would bring a southern state into the Democratic "Win Column". Instead Obama went for Senator Joe Biden to sure up the leadership ticket for the White House. McCain assuming it would be an Obama-Kane ticket, wrongly accused Obama of putting politics ahead of country. Well McCain and Rove got busted. The whole world (except blinded Religious-Right) witnessed McCain picking the least qualified Republican to be his VP in hopes of: (1.) stealing Hillary's voters from Obama; (2.) pleasing James Dobson's religious-right. Clearly a hypocritical VP pick by McCain for the "sole purpose of political ambitions", is now on record for the world???s eternal observation.

    .
    [11.]
    "McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #11: THE "SADDLEBACK CONE-OF-SILENCE" CHEATER-LIES
It was McCain's responsibility to be in Pastor Rick Warren's "Cone of Silence" before Senator Obama got the first question. McCain was not in the cone-of-silence. Therefore McCain cheated. The issue is not whether McCain heard any of the questions posed to Obama, the issue is that cheating did occur when McCain did not follow the rules to be where he was suppose to be, at the time he was suppose to be there.

    .
    [12.]
"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #12: THE "IRAQ TIMETABLE" LIES
Senator Obama was consistent in his call for a responsible U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq under an agreed timetable. McCain and Bush said "absolutely" no timetables and anything like timetables was tantamount to "cut-and-run". It was Bush and McCain's desire to stay in Iraq indefinitely. Only after Obama took McCain's challenge and went to Iraq & Afghanistan, and secured an informal agreement to pull U.S. troops out by 2010, did Bush and McCain changed there views to accept timetables. Now Bush and McCain don't call timetables cut-and-run any longer.

It is interesting to read the reactions of the female voters. Whether they are strident right wing feminists who deplore her lifestyle, or mothers of large families who deplore equally, her parenting abilities; these women seem unable to look at the larger picture. Namely: when and if McCain is elected President of the US, and when he manages to trip over a microphone cord before falling into the orchestra-pit and breaking his neck. How do you (I've asked several ladies this question) think Ms Palin will handle a threat of Thermo-nuclear-biological war?

So McCain is going to inappropriately use his position to try and cover up any potentially dirty business Governor did by inappropriately using her position. Give it up McCain; the American people deserve the truth about your VP, lies and cover ups will not put either of you in the White House. (Thank God!)
