yeah, but how is giving hand out money to millions of people who don't want to work for it, while taking it from the people who provide the jobs for those who will work for it help the economy? And while we're at it. The last I heard we are winning the "war we cannot win" and the people who made that possible with the surge are now talking about getting ready to leave there in a manner which allows our soldiers to hold their heads high and doesnt undermine America's place in the world and endangering her citicens by portraying military weakness.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/09/2008 9:23:16 AM

There is no "winning" this "war." There is simply "less troops and civilians being slaughtered." We truly DID win a war--a WORLD war--in less years than this fiasco.

      • Posted By: jmario @ 09/14/2008 1:44:57 AM

That's absurd, of course there's winning this war. It's when the US leaves Iraq in the hands of a functioning democratic Iraqi government. And that's not far away, we've already turned over Anbar; 15 of the 18 benchmarks have been met.

OK. I'm a nurse so I know a few things. When a woman ruptures her membranes a month before her due date, it's considered an obstectrical emergency. Any pregnant woman who is not retarded and ruptures her membranes a month early, knows the baby is in trouble. When you're pregnant with a Down Syndrome child, you have also been told about the high risk for the baby to be born with severe, life-threatening cardiac problems and the need for the baby to be born in a hospital with a Lever 3 nursery to maximize the chance of saving the baby's life.

So, knowing all of this, please tell me why Gov. Palin, a staunch Right-to-Life supporter (1) had a genetic amnio at 13 weeks when the risk of miscarriage was 3 times greater then if she had waited until the normal time of 18 weeks when she wasn't going to do anything despite the outcome? (2) Decided she had to fly from Alaska to Texas, a total of 24 hours flying time, when she was 8 months pregnant with her 5th child, and a special needs one at that? (3) When she ruptured her membranes in Houston, why didn't she go to one of the 6 or so hospitals there with a Level 3 nursery to get the medications she needed to save her baby's life? (4) Why did she get on 2 airplanes and fly back to Alaska and risk the real possibility of delivering the baby in the air? (5) What would she have done if the baby had been born on the plane and had bad heart problems? (6) When she landed in Alaska, why didn't she go to the medical university there in Fairbanks? (7) Why did she drive home in the snow an hour away to have the baby in her small town hospital?

Gov. Palin may be Pro-Life but every choice she made in her pregnancy with Trig showed reckless disregard for his life and only concern for what was best and convenient for hers.

    • Posted By: jmario @ 09/14/2008 1:39:56 AM

Her membranes didn't break, they leaked. Not the same. I leaked amniotic fluid at six months and again at eight months and neither time did I go into labor. She didn't go into labor until she returned to Alaska and the doctor induced labor.

  • Posted By: jupiter25 @ 09/12/2008 10:48:22 PM

Please explain why none of these issues can up in Charles Gibson interview with her. Are they afraid they might make her cry or that she will bite them?

    • Posted By: jmario @ 09/14/2008 1:38:21 AM

Because they're false. Gibson tried to nail her on the "holy war" comment but apparently he didn't even know he was reading an inaccurate quote back to her.

She did not cut funding for special needs kids, she tripled it. She did not cut funding for pregnant teens, she almost doubled it. She did not "get back on a plane when she was in labor," she flew home to Alaska after leaking amniotic fluid (that's not the same thing as water breaking) with her doctor's blessing. After she got home to her own hospital, they induced labor.

You guys need to stop believing every negative thing you hear about this woman. It's become ridiculous how many lies are out there about her. Don't fall for them, it only makes you look gullible.

  • Posted By: jmario @ 09/14/2008 1:31:52 AM

Why is Newsweek not offering a retraction for this statement: "She cut by 20 percent the funding for Covenant House Alaska" That's entirely inaccurate, she more than tripled it. Don't believe me, ask the director of the Covenant House, who has tried to correct the record: http://carolinajournal.com/mediamangle/display_story.html?id=4977

Its not about abortion folks.....the economy is down for the count and there is a war on we cannot win that take 3 million dollars a day to fund.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 4:44:08 PM

And Obama has requested one million a day in earmarks for his political cronies, big fundraisers, and even his wife's employer.

And he obtained 12 million in tax breaks for foreign companies.

We need fiscal conservatives in office, people who know how to balance a budget, and that would not be anything Obama has ever had to do. Palin has done balanced a huge budget, and McCain has spent years fighting against the earmarks.

        Got Proof???

        • Posted By: dsqard @ 09/12/2008 12:00:17 PM

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren???t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22-million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? Or a new library? No. $1-million for a park, $15-million-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex...She also supported bonds for $5.5-million for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 years without any borrowing.???

The city of Wasilla has made available all of its budgets during Palin???s tenure. So we grabbed the fiscal year ending 1996 (when Palin took the reins), which showed the city???s long-term debt at $1.12-million, mostly for paving and sewer projects.

The annual financial report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2002 ??? Palin???s last year in office ??? shows that the total long-term debt was $24.8-million. So Kilkenny is off a bit when she says long-term debt went from zero to $22-million. But it did increase $23.7-million.

And Kilkenny is also correct about the big-ticket items that created the debt: $14.7-million for a new multi-use sports complex; $5.5-million for street projects; and $3-million for water improvement projects.

Hey Everyone - we could argue all day long about the tabloid stories and who's being picked on in the media and who's not - but utimately - this election is going to come down to the economy and asking yourselves if you are better off now than you were 8 years ago. And now that Sarah Palin has made it clear she intends to behave like a pit-bull with rabies combined with a mad-as-hell bucking bull (with listick), she's basically promising to play her part in 4 more years of partisan gridlock and fully supports Bush's policies 100% as does McCain. It's a real siimple choice and James Carville (who I don't always agree with) definately summed it up nicely:

"By every economic measure known to man, Democratic Presidents have out-performed Republican Presidents. And by the way if you believe the economy was better under George W Bush than Bill Clinton you???ve got a real clear choice here.

"If you think what America needs is a tax cut for people making over half-a-million dollars a year then vote for McCain. If you think middle-class people are struggling ??? that their incomes are going down and they need help ??? vote for Obama. It???s a very simple choice".

Amen! I miss the economy under the Clintons, the job market was great (as opposed to how awful it is under Bush and just about every other Republican president). I'm voting for Obama -- with no reservations -- as, while I'm not thrilled about welfare folks geting a piece of the Democratic pie, at least there's enough left for folks who still work for a living.

I believe that Palin is not as radical as she has been made out to be. I am only scared by the fact that she has allowed some tired men who are anti-women (when it comes to policy) to shape her.

        And Anne Kilkenny's credibility is ... ?

It appears as though she's a democrat, possibly unemployed, gossip writer.

Wow, how revealing - what an authority!

Gee, Sarah Palin's sure got the obamabots scraping the bottom of the bucket for criticism of the very capable Republican VP candidate. How revealing!

        • Posted By: bar0718 @ 09/11/2008 9:28:37 PM

Cut and paste, very original. Turns out Anne Kilkenny e-mail is credible. But I'm sure it doesn't change your mind at all. Republicans don't think about the issues. Just vote the same way your parents did and that has worked out so well. You fell for the whole "hot" woman smoke screen thing McCain threw at you. Try reading something neutral and think on your own. Congratulations, you must be one the lucky ones to make over $250,000. I'm sure you work real hard. Pay your fair share. The middle class sure does and we're tired of supporting the rest of you.

Sounds to me like Sarah Palin just wants the government to stay out people's lives. I have no problem with that.

  • Posted By: Belker @ 09/09/2008 7:25:46 PM

I believe you'll find that the cut was in the increase for Covenant House.

Maybe you should start reading the Anchorage Daily News website. You're reprinting what amounts to lies.

  • Posted By: WrknActor @ 09/09/2008 6:06:33 PM

To pearsoncrz: I beg to differ on the subject of Sarah Palin being a fiscal conservative and balancing a budget. Ms. Palin came into the Governor's office with a small surplus and a balanced budget and is currently running a deficit. Sound familiar?
And seriously ... are you really trying to say that deep down Sarah Palin is just a big softy for the issues and "plight" of same-sex couples? She's as middle of the aisle as Pat Buchanan.

  • Posted By: kirt @ 09/08/2008 1:07:29 PM

Palin is a throw back to feminist, she cuts programs that benifits for helping women. Her state high school graduation rate is the lowest in the nation, so what child isn't left behind? Dosen't belive in science in a time that this nation needs to catch up with the world. Will keep this nation from moving forard from the hydo-carbon economy until we run completly out and have to depend on other counties to sell us the newest technologies. Her polices and beliefs on the environment will hinder and hurt any advancement on a pressing issues that our future will depend on. On Sahra Palin I can just say no.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 4:45:31 PM

How can you say she doesn't believe in science? Her father was a science teacher and Palin does not claim that creationism should be part of the curriculum. She just isn't afraid to let teachers and students discuss that theory in the classroom.

Actually alot of your fact s came from a Washington Post article of which they have not made corrections. No, she didn???t cut funding for unwed mothers; yes, she did increase it by ???only??? 354 percent , as part of a multi-year capital expenditures program.
You are unfairly misleading your readers. Readers please see the statement issued by The Covenant House Alaska after the article came out in the Washington Post.

"Under her watch, Alaska liberalized its abortion laws". But over here (http://www.newsweek.com/id/157554): Palin's pro-life extremism is as ethically flawed as it is politically damaging to the GOP. Now, I'm confused

The only difference between Palin and Bush is LIPSTICK. The democrats need to identify that John McCain did NOT pick a MAVERICK---he picked George Bush in a skirt!

So, which is it? Is Sarah Palin the hardcore "keep 'em barefoot and pregnant" anti-abortion conservative Anna Quindlen makes her out to be, or the mild political realist this article paints her as? You guys need to get your stories straight. I make two predictions. The first woman POTUS will be conservative and the first black POTUS will be conservative -- both for the same reason that only Nixon could normalize relations with China.

So, I'm guessing that Newsweek is really just a mouthpiece for the left. Did you get your talking points directly from Obama himself? Why don't you discuss the lack of achievement in the other party's PRESIDENTIAL nominee? I suppose you wouldn't want to offend the anointed one. Sorry, I wasted my time.
