I'm a Republican woman (an oxymoron according to Quindlen, apparently) and I'm here to let you know that the left doesn't hold a monopoloy on empowerment of women.

Democrats are the ones who claim to fight the stereotypes; instead, as this article shows, stereotypes are all they've got.

Popmanifesto- EXCUSE ME? It's working a lot better than the dismal record of liberals on absolutely anything worth pointing to as a record of accomplishment: to wit- the USA hasn't been attacked once in almost 8 years.
Sparkly- RIGHT ON! The left has the same exact response to any black person who accomplishes anything as well. For example, Clarence Thomas, Sewell, Watt all have measurable ability and are constantly derided while Rev Jackson/Sharpton are a bad joke, but held in high esteem on the left.

Here's the news: That huge band of RED states in the middle is darn tired of being called flyover country by a bunch of loons on both coasts who really think that all good ideas and good people come from big cities. Get ready for a whuppin' in Nov.- there are still more of us in AMerica than there are of you in LALALAND.

Well, may if the DNC hadn't been so SEXIST toward Hillary and truly lived their supposed platform of equality for all -- AND if Obama had made the CORRECT choice for VP (Hillary) instead of slapping Hillary in the face by not even vetting her -- then maybe just maybe McCain would not have been able to counter with Palin. In fact, with Hillary on the DNC ticket there would have been no Palin. Hillary owes nothing to anyone. The DNC and Obama screwed up BIG TIME!

Alaska: 638,500 citizens. Poughkeepsie, NY: 29,900 citizens. They are obviously not equivalent! What rubbish.

And choosing a woman for political purposes is NOT the same as affirmative action -- she is believed to be the most qualified person to help win the election, while affirmative action requires you to choose someone who is not the most qualified person for the job in order to meet a quota.

Can we trust the opinions of someone who is either so stupid(or dishonest that she can't even keep facts straight? This article was carefully prepared and edited, and I found this in a single quick read.

This article is very sad. Reminds me of how much delight you took in attempting to destroy a good man in 1991, simply because he was a black man who didn't conform to your view of how he should behave and didn't apparently know his place. But Justice Thomas survived your scorn. Vice President Palin will too.

"by demanding that she be honored with the same tough scrutiny the guys in this race get" ??
oh, puh-leeze!! what scrutiny has Sen. Biden received? not one bit, just a few harmless jibes over his serial plagiarism. Yet while Todd Palin's 1986 DUI conviction is considered newsworthy, there has been not ONE mention anywhere of the New York Times' 1986 article on Sen. Biden revealing that he, as a sitting US Senator, lived in a home with a racially-restrictive deed forbidding him from selling it to a black family or allowing a black family even to occupy Sen. Biden's home. And yet Sen. Biden is allowed to serve as the running mate of America's first black candidate for President without the Times, Newsweek, or any other press organ deciding "to honor" Sen. Biden by, ahem, reminding him of this inconvenient truth.

I love it when people claim the government is taking control of a woman's reproductive organs. Or a woman's "Right to Choose." She made her choice when she decided to have sex. The government didn't make her have sex. What did she think would happen? That's what happens when you have sex. Sometimes even with contraceptives. So then the government has to protect the life of the baby. It's not rocket science. And even in cases of rape, that's tragic, but it's not the baby's fault. Have the baby and give it up for adoption.

    • Posted By: MotherOfOne28 @ 09/08/2008 10:48:12 AM

You make it sound so easy...."in case of rape have the baby and then give it up for adoption" I have never been raped and hope to God that will never happen...but do you understand what a woman goes through when something like that happens. It is hard to live each day knowing that this scum's child is growing inside of you and that you have to be reminded of it everyday until the child is born. Not every woman will be strong enough to carry that child to full term. So I don't believe the government has the right to decide what a woman should or should not do. Yes when you have sex there is a possiblity that you might get pregnant whether your protecting your self or not, and I do believe abortion should be the last option, but it should be a woman's right to chose that option or not.

Palin has gotten the base charged up and in fighting mode, but as usual they don't need to know anything about how she will govern. Like George W. Bush before her, she seems likable and says all the things they want to hear about abortion and religion, so nothing else matters. How's that been working for you?

  • Posted By: I am Sarah Palin @ 09/08/2008 10:43:48 AM

So, are all of Gov. Palin's supporters hypocrites as well? You seem to lack self-awareness. Your opinion piece shows you to be a hypocrite just as much as those who you decry for hypocrisy. Or were you trying for irony?

  • Posted By: agilmer @ 09/08/2008 10:43:36 AM

Discussions that state that non-support of affirmative action is either racist or sexist and not in conformance with a full respect of other humans without regard to race or gender are disingenuous in the extreme. It is like saying that one would hate children if they refuse to feed them ice cream for dinner. Self-sufficiency, without regard to race or gender, and a devotion to God, then Family, then Country is what is under attack.

I am independent voter and I am sorry to say that voters who vote for a candidate because he was once a prisoner of war, or she is a mother or he is a good speaker and do not analyse their policy and the possible impact on their lives are the most pathetic huamn beings. These people complain when the country is sinking in debt by burrowing money from CHINA to keep the country going. When are we going to demand policy chnage, the same failed policies that have sent our jobs outside the country and burrowing money from China. Wake up people, don't let any body fool you because your children future and the country existence is your hand, use your head people.

All of you anti-abortion people still haven't caught on that the Republicans are using you for your votes. You prayed for the day when Republicans would control all branches of government so they'd be in a position to overturn the abortion laws and when it finally happened they did NOTHING about abortion. They know perfectly well that if they outlaw abortion, you'll have no reason to rally behind them and show up to vote for them. They exist to enrich the wealthy, to enact the wish lists of our biggest corporations, and to ensure that the government has little to no oversight or power to stop the greed train from rolling. They stack the highest ranks of government with corporate lobbyists who have spent their careers working AGAINST government oversight. They'll throw you the abortion bone so that they have enough votes to enact their true agenda. Wake up, people. NEITHER party has any interest in making abortion illegal, but at least one of them is honest about it.

The liberal Dems and their fellow travelers in the media sure thought the appointments of Justices Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Courts were big threats to abortion rights. I guess the Republicans who said they were appointed because they were the most qualified must have been right.

Yeah, Sarah is a pro-lifer, which causes rancor amongst liberals. Yet, it is a sincere belief among many Americans. Failure to respect conservative beliefs will lose yet another presidential election to Republicans. Jimmy Carter couldn't believe he could be beaten by an actor. His failure to take the threat seriously, respecting the views of all Americans, got him trounced. Anne Richards, Al Gore, and John Kerry all failed to take George Bush seriously and lost elections that were theirs to win. Now, Obama seems to be on the same road.

Nobody expects Sarah Palin to get the support of Dykes on Bikes or the NAACP female forum but she will get many female votes including my wife and daughter who were Hillary supporters to my dismay. In fact they are MORE Excited over Palin than they were Hillary. If Dems were actually concerned with experience Bill Richardson would be the Dem Nominee. Not Obama. Even Crazy Dennis Kucinich has more experience than Obama.

    • Posted By: patattn2me @ 09/08/2008 10:38:04 AM

Tell your wife and daughter that when McSame re-enacts the draft to continue and expand his wars that he must "win" , we'll see if Palin still looks good enough in her skirt to run the country without any qualifications. I personally don't want McSame in office, but if he gets in and I've got to bet on him making it to 80 yrs old to keep her out I'm afraid.

The Dems have at the top of their ticket a man who fought for two years to prevent a woman from becoming President. And now that same man will fight two more months to prevent another woman from becoming Vice-President.. Of course, the same feminists who turned a blind eye to Bill Clinton's treatment of women will once again turn a blind eye to the fact that it is THEIR party and THEIR ticket which is fighting to keep a woman from making it to the White House.

    • Posted By: All's Fair @ 09/08/2008 10:36:13 AM

Enter Your Comment One can't help but wonder if all this new-found feminism in some conservative circles isn't really just a new form of racism...."We'll vote for anyone, anyone who is 100% white."

  • Posted By: Mister Crab @ 09/08/2008 10:36:02 AM

What seems to anger Ms. Quindlen and her fellow "feminists" is that Ms. Palin is feminine! How dare she not look and act like a man!

  • Posted By: AnnetteBark @ 09/08/2008 10:34:52 AM

The article is a typical left wing view. I guess you have to believe in abortion to be a feminist.

As for announcing story about her daughter Bristol, perhaps if left wing bloggers weren't suggesting the Bristol was Trigg's mother it would have be announced differently.

Wasn't this weekend the first time Biden's had an indepth interviewed since it was announced that he was the Democrat VP? Can't wait to here the criticism's of Palin after she interviews with Gibson.

To Navymom - give me a break. Hillary playing with the big boys and doesn't cry? Think back to her run against Rick Lazio for the Senate. She cried "poor me" when he challenged her on stage not to accept PAC contributions. Take your ideological blinders off.

    • Posted By: navymom06 @ 09/08/2008 10:32:29 AM

She went on to win that race and then win again . Did she ever not talk to the media hide behind people and not answer questions at all. No and they were pretty brutal at the Dem debates. But she held her own. Palin is hiding because there is no substance she has no real ideas . No one knows what she stands for only what they tell us. They think we should just blindly vote for her because she is a women . I truly think the women is this country are much smarter then that. So she needs to start talking about things without the help of a teleprompter. I f something happen to MCain and she needed to make a life and death about this country I want to know she will not run and hide . I know Hillary wouldn't have . I also know Barack and Biden can take over right now no probelm

  • Posted By: Dante A @ 09/08/2008 10:31:14 AM

    Anna,
You don't get it because you have NEVER gotten it. Republicans have LONG been about the causes of women. Just because republican women don't hate men and long for that next abortion doesn't mean they're not strong and powerful feminists. They're simply not "feminist" as you and your narrow views dictate.
