COnservatives never opposed the "women's movement". They opposed the radical feminazi movement. The NOW crowd has never represented more than a small fraction of women - abortionists. With Quindlen we see the same elitist arrogance that infects all of liberal fascism. If you don't promote abortion and all of the rest of liberal fascist dogma, you're not a real woman. Conservatives have always valued individual freedom to pursue whatever path one chooses - without regard to sex, skin color, ethnicity, or other superficialities - and without coercive government bias. It's the liberal fascists who insist on dividing us by group identities in order to use government to reward preferred groups. America needs to restore the Constitution - something that only conservatives can do. Liberal fascists want to destroy the Constitution using black robed tyrants.

"The governor's two years leading Alaska, which in terms of citizens served is the equivalent of being mayor of Poughkeepsie, N.Y...." Per US Census Bureau, pop of Alaska is 670,053, while pop ofPoughkeepsie, N.Y. is 30,050. I see that Newsweek really vetted their journalists well.

The crackpot peacecreep left wing blogosphere is in full meltdown tonight: Left wingers in their basements are frantically calling up the stairs to their mothers asking if they can make a long distance call to NYC to curse out a switchboard operator at NBC over Herr Olbermann???s demotion. Combine this with the latest devestating poll results and a full scale suicide alert has been issued. In other words, the normal America is just fine tonight.

Just keep telling yourself that as the financial institutions fail and we spend increasing amounts of our tax dollars on foreign wars that don't make us any more secure. Four more years!!! Go for it!!! Let's barbecue a moose on the White House lawn!

All women listen up!!! In order to be a true independant woman, one must follow in lock step with the "appointed" gate keepers. My dear Ms. Anna, you will always be lost and confused if you continue to try and fit us women into your box of feminist ideals. I cannot believe I'm telling YOU this, but we are as diverse a group as men, yes, it is true. Some of us are conservative, some of us are liberal, some have kids, some don't. Some of us believe abortion is the equivalent of infantcide, I know, hard to imagine, but true.
Please, get out of what ever conclave you are residing in..come visit us real working women, in the middle of the continent, on the fringes of the U.S..come see what we are really about. If you can get past your predjudices you'll be amazed at the women who do work, have kids, go to church, love their husbands and basically do it all without your consent or approval.

You'll be amazed at the women who volunteer in teen pregnancy centers, who try to keep their unborn sisters (and brothers) alive, who council young women, show compassion and open their homes to these girls. What would you do? Give them a few hundred bucks for an abortion and call it a day?

Please, get over yourself and take a tour in the real world. The right wing never trashed the womens movement and while you were busy navel gazing the rest of us working women were moving forward in conservative circles.

What Hillary might learn from Sarah is how to speak before Americans and not wage not-so-subtle discrimination campaigns against Americans!
The "feminist movement" is a liberal left-wing animal that is sarcastic and bitter and which Hillary is a bag lady for!
Sarah showed the nation a woman can speak before the American people and have a lot of things to say and not wage the talking points of discrimination campaigns against law enforcement, military experts, christians, achievers and gun owners (how refreshing!!!).
Maybe the feminists would be happier if Obama told Biden he had to wear a skirt and lipstick in public! Because Hillary's ideology is bigotry!
What did happen to Vince Foster? Secretary Brown?

Sarcastic and bitter were the ESSENCE of Palin's speach the other night! Get a clue!

      • Posted By: readingnews @ 09/07/2008 3:43:35 PM

I'm always entertained when someone answers an accusation with another accusation. Why can't you just give clear and concise reason why you think Saray Palin is qualified to be VP? Do you have to pick on someone else to promote your candidate? I don't care about Hillary. I care that Sarah Palin who is running for VP of this country wants to restrict women's rights. And because of that I will not vote for her.

TO THE MEDIA: PLEASE INTERVIEW SARAH PALIN AND FIND OUT WHO SHE IS. We, the American Public have a right to know where she stands on public policy and how she voted!! These stories are not coming out of nowhere!!

Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.

Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.

Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called "pray away the gay" movement. Larry Kroon, senior pastor at Palin's church, was not available to discuss the matter Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.

Never Let the Left Hand Know What the Right Hand is Doing...

The Republican Party platform includes an Anti-Abortion stance. It is their mantra.

In order to fulfill this party platform line-item, the Republican Party wants to seat enough Supreme Court Justices to overturn Roe v. Wade.

There is no line-item in the Republican Party platform that calls for tougher penalties for fathers who shirk their responsibility for caring for the child either before or after its born.

Senator Obama has said repeatedly and publicly that fathers need to take more responsibility for their children.

As much as Senator Obama may have wanted to put Senator Clinton on his ticket, research indicated that a significant number of white men and white women wouldn't vote for a ticket putting a black man and a white woman, or vice versa, in the White House.

Otherwise, Senator McCain could have chosen Condoleezza Rice (most qualified Republican woman on Foreign Polilcy), but the Republican Party saw the same research.

Besides, the Republican Party loathed the Clintons, and would use her selection as a rallying call.

So, Senator Obama chose Senator Biden who loves his wife and family so intensely that white women should see that Senator Biden is the guarantee they need to ensure their concerns are heard and needs are met. Women will be well-represented in his administration.

Deceitfully, the same Republican Party that tried unsuccessfully for years to destroy the Clintons have "flipped the script" and have begun displaying faux concern that Senator Clinton was not selected. The Republicans are "masters" at "devisive politics."

How does America provide Universal Healthcare to its citizens with a Republican President who will definitely "veto" the bill. The Democrats will not have enough votes in Congress to pass a "veto proof" bill.

When it comes to the Democratic Party, the Republicans' mantra is "When the Democats are divided, we stand...when the Democrats are united, we fall."

After many years, many lives lost, and many laws passed in an "attempt" to begin to dismantle the "Good Ole' Boy" system, women are suppose to believe that Governor Palin is going to single-handedly defeat it...well, "Bless her heart."

As usual, excellent column Anna. I'm amazed at the willful blindness of Conservatives during the past week, although I do not put anything past them, the straight-faced accusations to the media of "sexism" are as cynical and opportunistic as their newfound admiration for Hillary Clinton (goes to show that if one opposes anything so absolutly it comes back to bite us). And THAT is what Conservative politicians are all about. The cynicism of Pat Robertson in endorsing a pro-choice republican during the primaries, to get in on the groundfloor (Giuliani didn't win a single primary). The cynicism of Dobson in being giddy over a workaholic woman, of Palin painting herself as the enemy of pork barrel politics, of McCain's own genuflection to the "agents of intolerance" and Cindy McCain's penchant for extravagant, showy clothing and jewelry when addressing a nation during hard economic times; while people are losing their jobs, homes and lacking health insurance she walks around wearing more than a quarter of a million dollars... This last one I blame not on cynicism but on sheer cluelessness.

That is the defining quality of the Christian Right in this country: Cynicism.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 09/07/2008 12:08:46 AM

Oppps, and how can I forget? McCain is a war hero! He ought to be respected as a war hero! He risked life and limb for our freedoms. These comments come from the same people who poo-pooed on John Kerry and Max Leland's record four years ago. THAT'S CYNICISM!

  • Posted By: labman57 @ 09/07/2008 10:29:05 PM

Except that Palin is as far from a feminist as any female can be. However, she is an anti-semite (she and her church believe that God is punishing Jews in Israel for not accepting Jesus as their savior) and a racist (she referred to Obama as "Sambo" during the primary season).

    • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/07/2008 10:40:34 PM

Well if that's true then maybe we won't have another war in the middle east on behalf of Israel. :D After all, they sunk the U.S.S. Liberty in 1967 to bait LBJ into attacking Egypt. That scheme failed, but better late than never, right labman57?

      • Posted By: HarleyDavidson @ 09/07/2008 11:54:36 PM

The Liberty was never sunk! Check your facts before posting. That was a friendly fire incident. Matter of fact, ten Canadians were killed by US friendly fire. Friendly fire by US on their own soldiers occurred in both Gulf Wars. That's why its called "fog of war." US fighting Israel wars? US forced Israel NOT to fight in order to keep their Arab allied. Have you forgotten so soon? Israel wants to take out Iran. Bush is preventing the strike. preventing

        • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/08/2008 12:32:25 AM

Yeah I've read all about it, including the part where our president didn't believe the Israeli story. No it wasn't sunk, that was a mistype on my behalf, but it weren't for the Israelis not trying. The thing barely made it back to port. If we can agree that Israel is an unreliable ally, then I don't really understand your motivation for contradicting me.

Oh okay - and Obama's attendance at a BLACK POWER church for 20 years is nothing to mention. HIs church gave Louis Farrakan a LIFE ACHEIVMENT award. Talk about Anti-semite. The truth is Palin IS A FRIEND of Isreal and keeps a flag in office which was noted by the Jewish Coalition and many jewish papers. Obama on the other hand would STILL be in that RACIST church if it wasn't for Fox News.

      • Posted By: it's about the future @ 09/07/2008 11:12:21 PM

Your own racism is self-evident. Obama has massive support from the jewish community and expecially their leaders. Many any have spoken out against false attacks like yours.
The church you mention has branches all over the country and is predominantly white. Their members spend a lot of money taking care of people of all colours on issues like AIDS and HIV and have done for a lot of years.

        • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/08/2008 12:36:41 AM

Is it racist to recognize when other people are racist against you? Is it racist to recognize anti-racists who hate themselves? Howard Dean said the GOP was the "white" party. Does his label then make Dems the anti-white party by default?

  • Posted By: herman100 @ 09/08/2008 1:42:31 AM

All I can say is those Republicans sure learn fast. Interesting how they are all about CHANGE now. But just dig a little into the campaign staff and you'll see that the chief strategist is STEVE SCHMIDT - a Karl Rove protege and former campaign staffer of Bush 2004. Doesn't seem like much of a change -- I just wonder if the public will fall for this sleight of hand.

    • Posted By: HarleyDavidson @ 09/08/2008 1:54:02 AM

I believe Jimmy Carter advises Obama. Jimmy Carter. Worst economic president in history. 19% inflation Carter. The American President who surrendered to the Iranian. I'll take Rove any day.

Come on people, our country deserves better than all this drivel.

The press uses us all as pawns, pitting us against each other and then having a hearty laugh while we tear each other apart.

Quindlen chooses another hot button issue so she can watch us all have yet another abortion debate filled with smears and lies from both sides and only a few truths here and there.

Stop reading these stilted op ed pieces and go research from reputable sources (not second hand blog comments) about Sarah Palin. Then make your decision.

But for goodness sake, please don't let media people with an agenda tell you what to believe and how you should think. Stop letting anyone from Anna Quindlen to Bill O'Reilly, from Daily Kos to Rush Limbaugh, play you for fools!

  • Posted By: martinangell @ 09/08/2008 1:51:49 AM

Um, this author forgets that Obama refers to women as "sweeties". Her leftist ideology and Obamaniac commitment has blinded her to the fact that Republicans have long been electing women to state and national office (even the Bush admin. has a few of them). What's more women are not crazy abortion zealots as this author is...Obama supported INFANTICIDE. It's a FACT. He said that if they survived the botched abortion, they have NO RIGHTS. Sorry, "sweetie", we're not buying it!

  • Posted By: martinangell @ 09/08/2008 1:48:06 AM

Um, this author forgets that it is Obama who addresses women as "sweetie". I might point out that Republicans have long elected women to office, and we have them in the present Republican cabinet. This author is a total Obamaniac who is so driven by leftist ideology, she can't bear to see a woman who pretty much has "got it together" with a Republican label running for higher office.

  • Posted By: BananaRepublican @ 09/08/2008 1:46:57 AM

Is Quindlen really arguing that - in addition to being in favor of prohibiting the slaughter of innocent homo sapiens, including those which are female, who are so unfortunate as to be en utero - that by refusing to expand the size of government in order to buy contraception and generically "aid poor mothers," McCain is anti-woman? Oh my. In Quindlen's view, is there nothing that should remain the exclusive domain of private charities and is there nothing for which the government should not grant entitlements? Is being in favor of private charity and against public entitlements now inherently "anti-woman?" I sure hope not!

  • Posted By: Blue Ridge Woman @ 09/08/2008 1:45:54 AM

    Good lord.

Liberals: You know how much the press both mainstream and internet have lied about Obama, both pro and anti points. Do you not think it possible now that they may be lying as well?

Wake up all people of all political and personal persuasions. The press LIES and enjoys that we spin while they spin. We are all just chess pieces on a board to them. If they move us one way, they get another turn. If they move us another, the opponent cries "checkmate".

Stop being controlled by biased media whether left or right. Go out and do your own research. Stop relying on these hacks to tell you what you should believe. Become informed.

And please, for once, everyone try to understand the other point of view and to embrace some sort of ideology that allows you to accept others even when you don't understand where they are coming from.

Contempt breeds more contempt and our country is going down the toilet while everyone hates and hates and hates. We all deserve better than this . . .

  • Posted By: valwayne @ 09/08/2008 1:41:52 AM

I would have been disappointed if the Newsweek bureau of the Obama campaign hadn't added their own smears to the filth that is being written about Gov Palin. Ms Quindlen has proven how ignorant she is, outside her own narrow circle of liberal bigots, by giving us a laundry list of stupidities that she and her elite friends like to think about the rest of us in the country that aren't as enlightened as they are. "The One they've been waiting for" showed he had similar thoughts when he gave his bitter, gun toting, bible thumping, bigots speech in SFO. And its not that we haven't seen it before. It's worse against Palin, but Hillary got the exact same treatment from the worshippers of "The ONE" including Ms Quindlen. Well go ahead with your sexist rantings against a working mother with a downs syndrome child. Go ahead and trash her family and her pregnant daughter. Go ahead and trash hard working Americans who listened to her speak at the convention and know that she is someone that will fight for them. Go Ahead and do "The Obama's" trashing for him. Us poor dumb working people will let Sarah Palin fill us in about mooseburgers and march to the polls in November remembering what you and "The ONE" think about us! Please keep it up Ms Quindlen. Every vicious article you write like this one .convinces a few thousand more of us to vote for McCain/Palin in Nov. You and the "in the tank press" are the best thing McCain has going for him!!!!! Hillary 2012!

"Iron my shirt" and "periodically when she's feeling down" has nothing to do with idealogy. Obama and the gang (which you've seem to become a part of call women who are not voting for The One 'stupid'. That's right. Idealogy is so much for important that blatant female bashing. Or do you tell yourself "hey, they are just bashing her because she is a republican". You're right. Baby-gate has everything to do with idealogy.
