I see so much fear from left-wing feminists on Sarah Palin...abortion is their sacred cow and they just cannot get past it; they just cannot, despite 30 years of scientific development that shows us that babies in the womb are not just a blob of tissue. Thankfully, there are a whole generation of women who have regretted their decision, and have passed on their tragic experience to their own daughters (when they finally had them.)

So, evidently unbknownst to the feminists who live in their own little bubble, countless homes and charities have been established by those stuffy right-winged ideologues to stop the perpetuation of the awful lie of abortion being a woman's right. They've been there for over 20 years sowing seeds of life into a new generation of women who compete with vigor in the workforce but will not go down the path to abortion as the women before them.

With all this said, it is fair to say that the hypocrisy is pointing right back atcha---since when have feminists encouraged women to stay at home with their babies? This is really a new one, and it is laughable that you have now become the advocates for stay at home moms!

It's much more than that. She favors big oil vs environmental conservation. In fact, she doesn't believe that humans are contributing to global warming. She doesn't think polar bears should be on the endangered species list. She tried to fire the town librarian for refusing to pull books from the library at Palin's whim. Then there is the lack of experience. These issues are all being overlooked because she has a winning personality. Didn't we learn from GW Bush that we shouldn't vote for someone because we like them? Anyway, that is the point of view from many of us who do not support Sarah Palin.

      • Posted By: doctorfixit @ 09/08/2008 3:44:51 AM

I favor "big" oil too. They actually produce something of value - unlike the enviro-psychotics,who have done nothing but drive employers bankrupt. I think liberals, not polar bears, should be on the endangered species list. And I suspect that librarian was a liberal fascist who insisted on parading gay porn in the library. Palin has more executive experience than any other candidate. All of these are false issues. Palin;s enemies hate her because she dares to step out of the NOW box.

Ha ha ha! You are funny, but no they are not false issues. Right wingers seem to think people who don't agree with them run around foaming at the mouth hating normal healthy people.

"The governor's two years leading Alaska, which in terms of citizens served is the equivalent of being mayor of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.,..." According to US Census Bureau: Population of Poughkeepsie, New York is 30,050. Population of Alaska is 670,053. I see that Newsweek (or any liberal media) already vetted their journalists well.

    • Posted By: socalsue @ 09/08/2008 3:36:40 AM

It's still a tiny state population-wise, but yes, she should have found a better city to compare it to. San Jose, CA is in the 900,000+ category to provide a comparison.

I would give the benefit of the doubt to any politician who mispeaks during an interview, or to people like us who put commentaries on a news article. A mistake like this in a piece written on a weekly media shows not only clumpsiness or laziness not only on the part of the author but also on the part of the editors. At the end, given the tone of the piece, it reflects the quality of the magazine itself.

Agree with your point, but Anna Quindlen's point is also well taken that Alaska has a very small population.

You know, I feel like I've suddenly been placed on the wrong planet. That this woman could potentially get this high up the political ladder is terrifying. All our work, all our work, for animals, for clean energy, for women's rights, for teaching truthful information in the schools...it's all threatened. I don't know what we're going to do except work as hard as possible to elect Obama. His and Biden's jaws must have hit the pavement when they got the information that this was their competitor. I am sick.

I think it's rather funny that when minorities have children out of wedlock you hear statements like "Oh, well they have no guidance, parents are in jail, parents did drugs, or my favorite parents don't care" Yet, when it happened to someone like Sarah Palin and her daughter you never heard these types remarks-why is that? Folks, definitely a double standard here and I'm a conservative Republican who works with young women that are not so lucky as Ms. Palin's daughter in that these young women have no support from their families or the general public. Thank God Palin's daughter is in the circle of GOP

Thirty years ago we fought to make abortions safe and legal for women, but we recognized that it might not be the only choice. We called ourselves pro-choice, not pro-abortion, partly because it sounded better and because we agreed on respecting women's rights to choose to carry or not carry a pregnancy to term. I'm appalled at the so-called pro-choice warriors questioning a woman about her personal choice or her daughter's

While I have to hand it to Sarah Palin for making her way to the Governorship, it is clear that she has NO experience to do the job of VP. This is not an issue of whether or not she is a feminist. Her short political career and knowledge of the world are skewed by her Alaskan and small town view. There is no doubt that she has had to claw her way to get where she is, but she is like a big fish in a small pond. Alaska is nothing like other states in this country. How can she possibly relate to what most of the population experiences?
Pit Bull or Soccer Mom - this is the type of thing Americans care about?? She cannot separate herself from the same old policies that have gotten us into the mess we are today. She thinks she is qualified to push the button and play with the big boys? She can't even be interviewed by the news stations because the republicans are afraid she'll mess up her answers. That's because she can't answer the important questions? When it comes to dealing with difficult heads of state and having to negotiate, I don't want a Pit Bull. I want someone who can think, use good judgment, stay calm, do the right thing for the country, is smart and well-educated. Oh, and religion should not enter into politics. It's no good for religion and no good for politics.

Mexico's and Latin American's primary economic policy is to send their Uneducated peons and Criminals to the US for Tax payers to support and be the Victims as they rob, rape and slaughter Americans by the 10,s of thousands, Businesses to Exploit and profit from, and for Corrupt Politicians to Pander and Cuddle! While Mexico has one of the most punitive and strictly enforced immigration policies in the world!

Amnestying them & with chain immigration for their relatives and their relatives in an never ending chain will add 100,s of millions, a vast underclass of fast breeding, uneducated citizens that will make it impossible to continue the social network for American tax payers. When that occurs you will see riots, fires and pillage from coast to coast that will make the recent rioting in French by Muslim immigrants look like an cook out!

We are now seeing that the Illegal Aliens can not only impact this Nation but the global economy as well. Many of the Sub-Prime loans & defaults were to Illegal Aliens that started the unraveling of the Global Economy! Just like our Declining standard of living, Bankrupt Hospitals, Failing Schools, Welfare costs, Identity fraud, Welfare fraud, Voter fraud, Gangs, Crime, Crowded prisons, Destroyed communities, Exploding population, Congested roads, Pollution, Insurance costs, Balance of payments, (Imported oil etc. to support the illegal alien population) Trashed Constitution and the Rule of Law, they have now spread their negative impact across the Globe.

It looks like with American heading into a very bad recession or more likely an depression, The 100,s of billions the Illegal Aliens are costing American tax payers for free medical, schooling, welfare etc. needs to be spend on American citizens, not invading criminals from third world counties, plus the 40 to 50 billions remittance by Illegal aliens needs to stay in the country to simulate this economy and force Mexico & Latin American to address their problems!

Last but not least, all Nations immigration policies are by design & intent suppose to enhance the Nation and its Citizens that immigrated legally, obeyed the laws, paid the taxes, fought the wars and built the nation! Clearly for the reasons numerated above Amnesty for the invading horde of uneducated peons and criminals does not meet this criteria.

They certainly must not be used to further the political careers and lust for power of Corrupt/Pandering Politicians like Barrack & McCain!

Typical left wing B.S.. They push a menu of outright lies, half-truths, and talking points about Gov Palin, spew them over and over again (disregarding the fact that they have often been completely refuted), and then claim "See! She's either an evil lying neo-con" or "just a run-of-the-mill stupid neo-con".

Fortunately at least 51% of people (according to Rasmusson) see through this garbage can of propaganda.

Palin is pro-life, even in the case of rape, and opposes same-sex marriage and favors teaching creationism alongside evolution in schools. But she hasn't pushed for legislative changes in any of those areas.

That says plenty. It shows she knows the limits of government. Government isn't there to tell us what to do.

Obama seems more inclined to use government to control it's citizens than Palin.

As a former democrat, a mom a teacher, and a woman, it amazes me that your article scoffs at a woman who has broken the glass ceiling in the name of "feminism". Is there only one path to the sacred shrine of opportunity for women? I hope not in this land of opportunity, but the tone of your article leads me to think otherwise. Also, I find it insulting that the only "choice " that you deem appropriate for discussion is not the choice to stay at home or work or do both, but the "choice" to take a life. I made my choice. You made yours. Sarah Palin made hers. I'm not going to judge you on your choice. I hope you won't judge me on mine. Now can we just all choose to judge her by her record?

    • Posted By: Bubbahunk08 @ 09/08/2008 10:02:24 PM

Whether a working mom can be VP is not the issue here. The issue is that McCain brought out a complete unknown with 8 weeks to go before we decide who will lead our country for the next 4 years. How many priests and ministers do we have to see on the front page before we realize you can't judge a book by its cover. No one group is composed of all good or all bad people, but we won't have time to find out about Sarah Palin - and it isn't the Democrats fault. But what will happen is that women will argue and people will post this and that and we won't get down to the real issues at hand - how our country is going to survive and thrive for our children. Believe me, I was caught up in all this talk for a few days and then realized that the entire discussion had been moved to focus on Palin and not on the issues that matter to the American people. If you really were a Democrat and if you are a working mom, if you think about the Ledbetter case - and you believe in equal pay for equal work - and you want more opportunity for all of our girls and boys - there is really only one serious choice. Believe me, I wish McCain had picked Christine Whitman, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, or even Heather Wilson - then we would have had a real race. Right now, the Republican ticket represents American Idol versus two real people on the other ticket. Just FYI, in case you really weren't a former democrat - Hussein means beautiful boy. Don't be fooled.

The rank hypocrisy is in the Democratic Party that has pretended to support women's rights but that savaged Hillary Clinton and is now savaging Sarah Palin. The not too subliminal message from the Nasty-Crats is that women should not aspire to the highest offices in the land.

If Barack Obama had thought himself capable of handling Hillary Clinton in the VP slot, he and Sen. Clinton would be sailing to victory. And if Barack Obama himself doesn't think he can handle Hillary Clinton as his VP candidate, then why should the American electorate trust him to handle any of the other tough players on the world stage?

And why, for goodness sake, should Hillary Clinton have any responsibility for bailing Barack Obama out of a mess of his own making? How utterly ridiculous.
