The great truth is this: Most cancer come from infections - low level, mild symptom-related intrusions from viruses and bacteria which create some form of inflammation. They're seeding themselves (after a fashion) in our cells. Case in point: Helicobacter Pylori - one of the primary causes of stomach ulcers and stomach cancer. The researchers who discovered it received the 2005 Nobel Prize for Medicine. We should treat the disease, not the symptoms. The medical community doesn't see it in the same way we saw polio and other devastating diseases because of the long duration between initial infection and life-threatening symptoms.

We need to stop referring to as a "war on cancer" - by doing that we make sure that we are engendering a winner or loser in the battle and cancer continuously wins what we determine a "war." Also, when a doctor is quoted as saying "his luck ran out" it gives the idea that you're simply lucky or unlucky depending on getting cancer or not having cancer or surviving it. All studies reveal that the journey is to create within your body the most healthy possible climate so if you do face cancer the odds are already in your favor that you will be able to help your body overcome it. In this country the battle on obesity, junk food, smoking are all the underlying reasons that many people ultimately get cancer. Imagine if we spent a tenth on preventative methods how that would impact what you term the 'loss or war" on cancer?

All that needs to be done is for a reputable institution to examine the effects (if any) of the top 500 chemicals that are in our products, foodchain, and environment generally, and to conduct experiments on these substances, individually and in tandem, affect human DNA.

Looking for a cure for cancer is like looking for a cure to put and end to bruises, its simple, just stop beating yourself up. We are inundated in un-natural substances and the collective effect of this madness is to cause aberrations in the population.
We put chemicals in our hair, chemical deodorants, CO2 auto enhaust, chemical pesticides, fertilizers and preservatives, chemical cleaning agents, nuclear waste, chemicals on our lawns, chemical medications, etc., etc.

We don't need a 'war on cancer', we need a 'war on stupid'.

There are anticdotal 'cures' out there - but our FDA will not allow 'non-pharmaceutical' "CURES" to be published or even talked about.

There are natural and quantum physics CURES that I have seen with my own eyes. But if we talk about it - we'll be put in prison - why is that?

What you haven't discussed here is the restriction of our First Ammendment rights by the FDA. Examine the FDA, the AMA and our wonderful pharacuetical companies. We are being conned into poor health because of way too much regulation in these markets. These regulations protect the monopolies of the AMA and the cancer researchsupported by the pharmaceutical companies. Please do some real reporting.

Nice article that gets at some of the problems. How about one on incidence? We keep talking about death rates. We need to be taking a closer look at incidence rates and environmental contaminants. Getting cancer is devastating. We need to eliminate causes. Focusing on incidence rates can help show the true extent of the problem facing us.

"Stand Up For Cancer". what a great banner to wave in the face of the most distructive, horrific and insidious disease. I have METASTATIC NEUROENDOCRINE TUMOR. WHERE ARE THE TRIALS FOR THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF CANCER? Does anyone out there know of this form of cancer?

We all wear PINK for breast cancer during the annual pubilcity drive to raise funds. What is MY color? If you have the answer to that one, e-mail me at: elmack44@live.com.

Did you get the irony of the address,"live"? When all else fails, try a little gallows humor. Let's save the wales. Who knows - they might hold the cure for cancer.

In a cannabis study on cancer conducted in 1974, researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, instead found that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice - lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia. Dick "Tater" Nixpn's Drug Enforcement Agency shut down that study and buried that life saving information. In 2000, it was validated again when researchers in Madrid announced they had destroyed incurable brain tumors in rats by injecting them with THC, the active ingredient in cannabis.

So tricky ol' Tater shouts rah, rah, lets declare war on cancer while hiding information about the cure????

I definitely agree that there's enough evidence about cannabis that trials using it against the disease should be fully underway, and treatment not denied if the case warrants it.

But the DEA and the country have had a serious prejudice against the drug ever since William Randolph Hearst started his war on hemp and his demonization of Mexicans bringing it over from Mexico. The only reason the word "marijuana" has passed into common culture is that Hearst began spreading yellow journalism attempting to link the drug to fears about Mexican immigration and wanted the predominant name to be the Spanish one. Not a lot has changed with regard to Rupert Murdoch on this, as far as I can tell.

It's a pity and a shame...cannabis was at one point the predominant drug used for pain relief in the U.S. prior to the development of aspirin. No joke.

A co-worker of mine was just diagnosed with lung cancer. I know why a President like NIxon would not touch the subject of prevention. It means tacking Big Tobacco, solvents used in the workplace, emissions and aspirations from industrial plants, pesticides, fertilizers, plastics, petrol, auto exhaust, and much more.
As a teenager, in the late 1960's, I walked into Creative Merchandise in San Rafael California and bought a paper bag, half full of asbestos powder, and brought it home to attempt to make a more efficient annealing oven for blown glass. The cats were the first to go. Then the dog.
Nowdays, pundits like Dennis Miller and Rush Limbaugh make a living, killing, by slamming enveronmental standards.
Why can't the people who make the decisions in this counry be more like Ralph Nader?
If they were, we would be in ammuch better place.

We hunger for victory, using the term for everything from bowel movements to sexual intercourse to War and of course, cancer. The word begs for definition and remains disappointed while we flail away, disjointed and disappointed.

It is a fallacy to believe the evils of the drug war are unintended. Felony
convictions disenfranchise mostly poor and minority Americans.

Dick "Tater" Nixon was really good at hiding tyranny under the guise of good
intentions, a con used by the servants of tyranny, throughout history. He
said on a white house tape "marijuana was the drug of choice for Mexicans,
hippies and black people," making perfectly clear his racism and
    authoritarian leanings.

Ooooops! Who spilled the beans? Doctors and patients all over the world that's who! The truth is out and spreading like wildfire! Cannabis cures cancer! This truth will not be suppressed, until every household knows the clamor, the swelling protest, exposing dark, dirty secrets of heinous crimes against humanity!

Patients all over the world testify to Cannabis' help in treating chronic
pain, multiple sclerosis, gastrointestinal (GI) tract disorders and
HIV/AIDS! Some MIT scientists speculate that cannabinoids play a protective
role in the brain, slowing the rate of disease. Most recently a study has
shown THC is far more effective than available Alzheimer's drugs to treat
symptoms and halt the disease's progression.

Cannabis medicines were once the ???drugs of choice??? in the United States and all over this planet. Until they were declared illegal, they had been used in about 30 prescription medicines for a 100 specific medical problems in the US and for curing even more ills around the world.
