Mr. Weisberg's article does not tell the story of devastation and hurt caused by abortion. I took a friend and paid for her abortion when I was 21. Her parents offered to build a room on their house and let her have the child (and her mom would care for the child while she was in college) or facilitate an adoption. She chose abortion because she couldn't imagine dating with a child. I supported her and was I wrong. She got an infection caused by a dirty, legal, clinic in Nashville, TN. They said it would render her sterile (I haven't talked to her in years--so I'm not sure) and then she sunk into a sad life of promiscuity, drugs, and financial ruin. And my $200--it was blood money. My college roommate, her boyfriend "made" her have an abortion, then broke up with her--she was never able to have children. My other friend, aborted her child conceived from an affair, then mourned for 4 years while she tried to get pregnant with another child (she already had one child). Never once did I hear her call her now 10 month old child a fetus--it was a baby from 8 weeks in the womb. Yet, the one conceived by the affair--never a baby.
Friends, this is not an easy issue--but there are so many families wanting to adopt and abortion, termination, "choice," these are not the best options for a pregnant teen. Note that Mr. Weisberg said 50% of teen marriages end up in divorce (the same statistic for all marriages), but 50% stay married. One of my best high school friends pregnant at 17 is still married to her high school sweetheart (25 years later) with 2 other children.
I read these posts and hear so much hate and I'm not sure why. I don't hate any of you, though I disagree with you. Is there a chance for compassion on my side and yours? I love my friends that have had abortions just as I love my other friends, but their burden is a heavy one to bear.
And I ask one last question, when any of you were expecting your first child--was is a baby or a fetus to you? This is a telling way to see the other side of us that are pro-life.
