Ok this article is obvious in its intent. The media is making it a up front issue no Palin. IF asked she replies what she believes and even Big Joe has the same outlook on the subject so whats that say?? So before trying to throw bombs check your own shack for explosives. This issue is a tough one and allot of people have the same stance but don't force it on others as a political push. Your beliefs are yours and as a public official they can't be forced on others but can be discussed and let the country decide. That is the greatness of our country and what makes us unique.

Comment: Palin brought on victory herself when she laid claim to "18 million supporters" whom were betrayed by Obama! Women. everywhere said. It is not about Palin; it???s about Hillary! How could Obama care less, about women sure he knows that if he picked Hillary he would be winning right now! But he picked biden who said that Hillary would have been a better pick! But because Obama is a sexist fool who can???t come to terms with having a woman on the ticket even if it costs him the election! Too bad we as women of this great country will stand behind Palin for support of women all across this land!

Love that Republican platform. Aren't the candidates suppose to run on it?

You know I am really glad that the Hughs Institute does not take federal money.

The fact that Bristol Palin's gotten pregnant does reflect somewhat adversely upon the Palin's practice of christian family values. No one is a saint and I wouldn't fault the Palins for what happened. But so long as Sarah Palin ventures boldly stumping as the assumed VP of McCain, all must accept that she would receive bashing for every mistake made. Be assured that she is no angel with the speeches that she is making about her political rivals.
2ndly, being friends of felons is not criminal. Jesus makes friends with unrighteous tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners all the time. Did Jesus do right or wrong? THose of us who think we have high moral ground when participating in politics should rethink of what Jesus said about taking out the log from your own eyes first before you do it to anyone else.

Sarah Palin is a wonderful woman well loved by over 80% of all Alaskans. She has a warm and loving extended family. She knows what is important in life. She has a warm, loving, and good looking husband. Her children are absolutely amazing. She has excellent executive level experience. She has a fantastic resume. She is a wonderful Christian women with strong family values.

The media thinks family values are:
    1) Obama used cocaine (in his autobiography) This is a felon. I guess the media thinks this is familiy values.2) Obama supports racist policies and segregation given his and Biden's plan for 3 state Iraq. He is for forcing families from their homes based on religion and race. I am shocked by the media.

Would it be asking too much for Newsweek to have a writer that knew his or her subject when writing about it? Mr Weisberg writes from his own limited understanding of morality in making these huge assumptions about America's values and how we got where we are. He does not speak for the majority of us who are not extremists but feel it is wrong (and frankly insane) to kill babies. The majoritiy of civilized societies throughout history shared this same abhorance of abortion, except perhaps those cultures that used babies in sacrifices, but I don't think we can logically compare that to abortion. I used to be so judgmental about the Germans for what they did during the Nazi regime, but finding myself in what is becoming a similar culture of death, that refers to human babies as fetuses and so technically not 'human', and that "the availability of legal abortion actually supports the kind of family structure that conservatives once felt so strongly about." (quoting Weisberg) I am beginning to perceive how a nation could find itself on that dark and gruesome road to barbarism. I would be curious to what George Weigle would write on the same subject. But seeing abortion, a word considered so unspeakably horrible that one could not even say its name outloud, in my own lifetime become an everyday hohum experience, lightly tossed about in the media like it was an equivilent to any other birth control 'choice' just boggles my mind.

TO: NBC, MSNBC, CBS, CNN, NYT, CT, WP, Newsweek, Atlantic Weekly, LAT---

WHAT MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

The Main Stream Media should be ASHAMED AS HELL OF ITSELF; but, we know, it has NO SHAME!!! It NOW thinks it should get involved in the vetting of a VP, while it GAVE A SHAMELESS PASS to OBAMA for the PRESIDENTIAL SLOT.

So you think giving SOFTBALL questions to OBAMA in the debates proves anything. Do you think not tracking down his associations, record, accomplishments or lack thereof proves anything? Do you think that attacking a 17 YEAR OLD GIRL of a candidate AND THE CANDIDATE HERSELF MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

It proves that the MSM is trying as hard as we have ever seen to CONTROL an election like a Chicago Party Machine, or a government controlLed, Banana Repubic press.

The MSM press has been disgraceful and there has been and will continue to be a decline of the MSM into tabloid, celebrity, and sexism journalism.

With some MSM outlets like NBC, MSNBC, CBS, CNN, NYT, CT, WP, Newsweek, Atlantic Weekly, LAT, and others becoming tabloids following DailyKos, MoveOn.org, and HuffingtonPost, the vast majority of normal, middle class, independent/moderate WILL BE SICK OF YOU.

    ANSWER THIS QUESTION:

WHAT MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

This is the best comment I have seen in months! So very very true!!

If Sarah Palin can't take the 'softball' questions of the mainstream media, about her daughter or anything else, what makes you think she can take on the dictators and despots of the world? She can't have it both ways. If she can't take the frigging heat, then get out of the kitchen! (That's just a saying so don't accuse me of sexism.)

This is pathetic. If she wants to be the most powerful person (or second most powerful) on the planet then take the shots. Take them or step aside. My saftety, the safety of children and families, depends on whether she can take the pressure and know the issues. Why is she hiding? Is she gonna hide when bad things happen?

Say what you will about Obama, but he's out there everyday. He answers the press and the people everyday. He's been in 23 debates with not even a notecard in the primary. You may not like his answers or what he stands for, but he answers whatever questions are thrown at him and you can't deny it. He beat the toughest opponent out there in the Clintons. He can take it. Where is Palin? Where is she?

Wait a minute! I thought Obama was running for President, not Vice President. When did he start running for the second position?

Did someone talk to Sarah Palin's daughter about abstinence? Of course she is human and we all have our skelton's in the closet sort of speak! What also does Sarah Palin have to say about healthcare in her OWN words, not words someone has written for her? Which seems to be her nack of speechs lately, same ole same ole. She sits women back a thousand years, and if she is elect VP will be scary. I guess we know who wears the pants in that family! And she isn't also for stem cell research???? And she has a child with special needs and still doesn't believe in stem cell research???? Hmmmmm, should make someone wonder......The mud slinging, who cares!!! I care about my grandchild which is 2 1/2 and what future will he have in this world along with my children. Are we not all worried about the future for our children? If not we should be! Something else to think about: What about the oil refinery's that McCain is involved with????? Is that maybe why he wanted Sarah Palin as his running mate for VP? Hmmmmm

Once again America is caught up in a tight Presidential race and with a whole lot of emotion being placed on the questions who is the most experienced, who has demonstrated a real understanding of Iraq, who has the best plan for fighting terrorism, who comprehends and can best resolve Global Warming, energy costs, dependence on foreign oil, rising unemployment, growing inflation, rising cost of living, runaway medical costs, humongous deficit, growing trade deficit, lost jobs, lost revenue, declining family values, who is the most intelligent, who is the best looking, who is the most likable,,, and not to forget the subdued racial issue. Is there any one issue that could make all of those issues subordinate and that then could be considered above the rest? I think so and that is simply honesty. What each candidate offers on each of those issues is important but when discerning who to vote for, if we can???t trust their answers, if they practice a policy of deceit, if they literally use a strategy of boldly, arrogantly and continually lying without hesitation or conscience, as if that is their privilege, then their answers are meaningless and all we can expect from them is more lies. Now both candidates and their supporters will say it is the other doing that but is there any real and consistent evidence that one side is literally being aggressively dishonest? I think there is irrefutable evidence that is the case. As I see it, it has been a consistent Republican strategy, a Karl Rove like tactic, to say whatever they want loudly, boldly, often and have others repeat it so that some will accept it; if they get cornered, then they just arrogantly, boldly and dishonestly say something else the same way and move on. It can be denied but it is what we have constantly witnessed with most everything from the Bush Administration over the last eight years. Even Scott McClellan in his book WHAT HAPPENED told us that President Bush consistently practiced self-deceit (Scott???s words) and it would be really hard to find anything that they haven???t lied about, either to justify or rationalize or excuse or to hide or even to attack their opponent. Senator McCain also does it but isn???t quite as bold as Gov Palin who is right up to the task and could give Bush a run for his money. There is so much that is coming out now that shows she has no hesitation or restricting conscience to stop her from saying anything. Like Bush, she is bold, arrogant, feisty and dishonest, as she herself says, ???a pit bull with lipstick??? but also extreme and even bazaar in her beliefs and actions. I could provide a long list but it would go on for some length and anyway it is all there to be seen by anyone who wants to be rational and objectively look and those who don???t, they will just use the Rove tactic to rationalize that Obama is worse. Hopefully this time around there will be enough voters concerned for the truth and we will then get it right in November.

Don't count on it. If you're pinning your hope on the poor (dumb) and the middle class (dumber) to come to their senses, then don't hold your breath. Since Reagan, it's all about God, Guns and Lipstick (who would you like to drink beer with).

I just think it is such a hoot seeing people who have no concept of a basic moral value talking and acting like they have the corner on that market. Jacob Weisberg's article is a classic illustration of that concept. As a professional, I jused to get Newsweek practically for free but it was laways so out of touch with reality and anything that resembled factual news, I just stopped renewing it. It wasn't even worth the time to review what those who are out of touch with reality and moral values were saying about life's realities. It is amazing that they hold these veiws and I believe they have acutally convinced themselves that they are somehow right and actually are supporting some sort of demented moral values system.

    dear troyola,
there is a huge difference between killing unborn babies and killing men in war. In war every man is there of his own accord, has made the decision to fight for his country, and would be proud to say he died defending it (with, of course, a few exceptions). An unborn child cannot make that choice, is completely innocent, and needs to be given the chance to live.

    • Posted By: troyola @ 09/10/2008 1:58:39 PM

murder is murder, you cant be pro war and pro life its a contradiction. u say the innocent child needs a chance to live, life isnt always a gift. what happens is the mother is unfit , the state puts the child in foster care. they get bounced around from abusive home to abusive home. then they turn 18 and get kicked out in the world with no life skills. these children then turn to drugs, gangs, prostitution in some cases all of the above. and not every person in the military wants to die for their country. alot of military people just need a good job. they didnt sign up to go kill people.

    • Posted By: Pupster @ 09/10/2008 12:23:05 AM

So all those civilians who are dying in Iraq, including women and children, are you saying they had a choice?

You can parse all you want, but Republicans like killing perfectly fine once it's outside of a woman's womb.

The Palin pick has sealed the fate of the Republican Party. No matter what the outcome of this years election she will become the odds on favorite for the 2012 nomination. Not only have numbers of far more qualified Republican candidates been pushed aside, whole groups that have been significant fractions of the Republican coalition have been pushed aside as well. The Goldwater libertarians no longer have a home in this party, the Nixon law and order types and militant anti-communists are no longer welcome. The chamber of commerce folks and the Wall streeters don't matter any more. All that matters is false christian fundamentalists. Our party will be dominated by flat earth, science deniers who pay homage to some twisted variety of a once great religious tradition that is as far from the teachings of Christ as Wahabbism. Woe are we.

kle55o7 said "I have been looking at the political maps which have lead me to the conclusion that it's all over"

I agree one hundred percent except that it's all over, it may look grim but there is still hope. I strongly suspect some 35% of the voters vote on some emotional point.

One interesting poll group is seniors who support McCain by a large margin about 65% , yet Obama has made clear seniors making $50,000 or less will no longer pay tax's, an idea whose time has come.

Does this mean 65% of seniors make more than $50,000 and could care less about those who do not?
or is it just plain dumb.
I was told you get older and wiser, I know for a fact that is not true, my vote is for dumb.

Killing unborn babies does not make for a stable family. Years in my past is an abortion. my wife at that time and i did not think we could handle a child with severe needs so we had it aborted. I have come to view the word abortion a nice clean clinical way of saying "murder the unborn" sacrifice them on our altar of convenience and selfishness. I have noticed liberals yell one of two things "extremist" or "hate speech" wHEN THEY ARE CONFRONTED WITH SOMEONE STRONGLY OPPOSING THEIR VIEWS.

  • Posted By: Dan Shamrock @ 09/10/2008 12:00:17 PM

Killing unborn babies does not make for stable family units. to say someone is an extremist on an issue because they choose to stand for an issue instead of standing aside for public opinion is just more liberal and democratic name calling so typical of those so ready to yell "hate speech"

KLE5507: Check out the Electoral map sometime soon. I think you will change your mind. Once again, there is a thing called seperation of church and state! Keep your religion out of my politics!

    • Posted By: kle5507 @ 09/10/2008 11:48:27 AM

I have been looking at the political maps which have lead me to the conclusion that it's all over for the DEMS because their core demographics have once again been manipulated by the GOP to vote on characters and values instead of economics and issues. I don't want to interject my religion into your politics. I'm just pointed out how dumb the poor and the middle class are. If they all band together and vote according to economic, social and issues, they would win this election for Obama hands down. But they don't. Why do you think ohio is swinging for McCain when they've lost so much jobs. If I were you, I won't invest so much emontionally into this election. Don't feel sorry for these animals that make up the poor and the middle class. Why do I call them animals? It is because they act by instinct without thought. I'm doing fine in this ecomony. They may not, but I'm looking it on the bright side. I can now lower the asking price to get my lawn cut. There's plenty of the unemployed out there to cut my grass.

"By vaunting their pro-life agenda over everything else, conservatives are abandoning one of their most valuable insights, that intact, two-parent families are best for children and the foundation of a healthy society."

What you have forgotten, or refuse to see, is that we *conservatives* believe that children to who get to live have better lives than those who don't. We are not abandoning anything...or anyone.

  • Posted By: kle5507 @ 09/10/2008 11:11:09 AM

Folks, It's over. The GOP has once again managed to split the DEMS up and tricked them into voting for character over the issues. My conclusion is the poors and the middle class of this country are really, really stupid! They will vote against their political, economic and social interest again and again. They are so easily manipulated! Karl Rove and the GOP knows this. I hope Abortion does finally become outlawed in this country so that voters can start choosing the best leaders based on judgement, abilities and issues. But the DEMs keep on falling for the annie okley (Palin) of this world.

I met a guy who was making $7.50/hr and he was voting for McCain because he think's the rich have already paid their full share of their taxes already. Atlhough he didn't have healthcare, he thought Obama heatlh care plan would cost too much in taxes. Not God Bless America, God Damned America! And the Damned have no one to blame but themselves. Idiots!

  • Posted By: PlebianReader @ 09/10/2008 10:37:30 AM

Heh, heh, heh. All this spam about McCain's completely off-top military endorsements just goes to show that the author of this article is right: pro-life purism is an issue of emotion, not rationality. It feels good to some people--screaming and making oneself a figurative martyr certainly seems to feel good, since so many people do it--but it doesn't stand up to reality or scrutiny.
Remember, the Pharisees were the conservatives of Jesus' day, and he debated their teachings regularly.
