I am a woman and I don't like Palin. She is against the right to choose and believe tha creationism should be taught in schools. She also allows hunters to shoot wolves from airplanes and even offers the hunter $150 for their front paws. What a hypocrate!!!! She wants woman to have babies that may be born out of rape and incest and want all the wildlife in this country to be distroyed by hunters. Why do we want her in the White House????

I believe the woman in this country do not read and are not properly informed about the real issues. As women we need to stop having lots of babies and get good educations and start reading books. Maybe then we will be smart a enough to earn top salaries and make opionions about others on their ability to do the job rather than we just like their personality.

I am a grandmother who was very involved in my children's education as a school board member. I, also worked outside the home after my youngest was in first grade, part time and then full time in a mediocre job, as my husband's job was/is a 24/7 situation and my children's needs and future were very important to me.. I graduated summa *** laude from college four years ago as a non-traditional student.
As a woman I admire both Hillary and Sarah's tenacity and appreciate their individual strengths, although at this moment I think Sarah is sorely lacking real experience not only on the international scene, but also domestically.
You pointed out in your article Kathleen the one situation that is of concern to me as not only a woman but
as a person born in a country that provides us with the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, without religious beliefs becoming a political playing card. To have a child or not is a very personal issue. As a mother, as a couple, as a family I would not want my government to force me/us to have or not have a child. I hope that I/we would be intelligent, responsible and caring enough to make the decision.
My point...don't just make a decision to vote based on a single issue and be realistic about the state our government and the world economy of today and tomorrow. We have to address some real issues as the world as I knew it is changing.

I completely understand. I too am a diehard Hillary supporter yet I find myself liking Sarah Palin more and more. You shouldn't be ashamed of it. This is still a free country and you have the right to like whomever you choose.

Truly disgusting alright. I loved the part about the mother obliviously checking her messages while her child jumps rope in a crosswalk. Guess neglecting your kids is an admirable trait to some. Thanks for legitimizing nationally the lowest kind of admiration. It'll be so fun while people like you put a crazy guy and a political hack in charge. After all, whats wrong with four more years of Bush policies? I liked Lauras shoes last week - so Iraq is A-OK!

You're article makes me physically ill. I mean did ya miss the last 8 years? Are ya better off than you were 8 years ago? There is NOTHING about that woman that I can stomach let alone like. When I see the likes of her in such a position of power, I feel like I'm looking into the abyss. Strong enough for you!!!

I find it very offensive to think that the glass ceiling might be broken by this cynical and contemptuous republican play on women-- by a clear affirmative action candidate when there are thousands of women more capable and better educated.

This is not good for my daughter.

    • Posted By: NOCoulter @ 09/06/2008 5:33:43 PM

The more we see of Sarh, the more we all like her. Oh, and since being pro-life doesn't necessarily mean you want to overurn Roe v. Wade, why not give her a chance to explain her position before saying you would never vote for her.

Also, the rumors about her belonging to a secessionist party are FALSE! Even the NY Times ran a correction on that. So many people are printing falsehoods. No, she didn't ban books from libraries, but is there room in our society to have a discussion over which books children should be exposed to, and do parents and taxpayers have any say in that? Also, she never called the Iraq War the "will of God." She offered a prayer that our country would be pursuing God's will. That's kinda like the quote attributed to President Lincoln during the Civil War. He was asked, "Do you think God's on our side?" Honest Abe replied: "I pray that I'm on God's side."

Here are some more facts about Gov. Palin (so many rumors are being proven false)
      http://explorations.chasrmartin.com/2008/09/06/palin-rumors

Give her a chance. She's passing every test so far. Nobody has really gone after Obama on all his problems:

This website created by former Hillary supporters has a WEALTH of valuable information and how the media has been negligent in properly "vetting" Sen. Obama.

Nobody has gone after Obama? OMG. The man has been slandered and smeared for months. Michelle Obama has been villified and called a terrorist. You are nothing but another fat, old, bitter Hillary supporter.
Hillary would be ashamed to know of supporters such as you supporting the opponent.....traitor.

Are you kidding, Pia? She is secretly hoping that Obama loses so she can run in 2008 and she can tell the DNC 'I TOLD YO SO'. LOL.

I truly do not like any of the candidates. I don't like Obama and much less Mccain. Usually I know well before an election who I would vote for but with Hillary out I am done. I believe this election the independent party will grow considerably. To me all 4 suck, it will be a matter of sucks the least. We laugh at latinamerican elections and we will be doing the same come November, LOL

Wonderful column! I hope tht with the new generation of Republican women, Condi Rice, Sarah Palin, that your daughter will outgrow your foolish liberal values and realize a woman can be 100% women and hold strong pro-life, pro-God views. With God guiding your daughter, maybe even w=you will come to regret backing the liberals in their selling out of America by murdering babies, surrendering to the Communists, Islamo-Fascists, and whatever other "ists" you Liberals love instead of the FRee Market and God of our Fathers.

    Palin/Rice 2016!

wow, voting cause she is red bull worthy, that is a great value to teach your daughter. I for one am going to teach my 7 year old daughter that you look at each candidate, their values, history and abilities and not how cool they look in their spectacles or if they might be fun to chat with. I guess we have different values.....

Let's look at the hypocrisy. Jamie Lynne Spears gets pregnant at 16 and Limbaugh and Billy O blames it on the parents. Bristol drinks alcohol and gets pregnant at 17 and Limbaugh & Billoy O' says Palin is a role model for all woman. Maybe Ms. Deveny should reconsider her affection for Ms. Palin. Afterall, I don't think she'd want to send a message to her own daughter that it's okay to get pregnant at 17 does she? Does she want her daughter's Uterus be determine by Limbaugh and Billy O'? Does she?

  • Posted By: SAS117 @ 09/07/2008 4:08:53 PM

Palin is genuine! She's honest, sincere, and intelligent. Sarah is a great leader and is not afraid to take a stand on her convictions. She is truly someone to admire and is a wonderful role model for young women.

    • Posted By: caitlin @ 09/12/2008 2:58:58 PM

A great model for pregnant teenagers?

  • Posted By: caitlin @ 09/12/2008 2:56:13 PM

How can someone loves God and guns at the same time? I call her a hypocrite.

  • Posted By: caitlin @ 09/12/2008 2:49:38 PM

I don't think women should vote for Sarah Palin just because she's a woman. I think they should look at the issue. I'm a woman I don't think this woman has enough experience to be Vice President or even President just in case something happens to McCain. She's already talking about war against Russia. Didn't we learn anything from the Iraq war? I think she was intructed on what to say by the Republicans in the interview.

  • Posted By: man4palin16 @ 09/11/2008 12:48:19 PM

Miss Deveny seems to thin that she is teaching her daughter to be a strong woman. She isn't. The odds are that Miss Deveny's daughter will be a starve herself, throw herself at boys, loser like Hillary Clinton. If her daughter gets married, with her mothers "Cafeteria" faith in mind, and her mother's ability to recognize an actual woman like Sarah, even as her mother continues to pine for the stocky unattractive aging shrew victim, we should all sincerely pray that she marries a good Republican man of strong morals like arah did and not another Bill Clinton/John Edwards/Elliott Spitzer serial harrasser.

Lenin would have loved today's "professional class of women" like Miss Deveny. hey are such self-approving pushover's that to call them "useful fools" is an insult to fools.

Sarah in 2016! BTW, the Supreme Court will overturn Roe and decide properly and with a belief in an actual God that life begins at conception. You abortion-loving Darwinists will have the fiolly of Medical Death Ships off territorial waters.

  • Posted By: FoCo @ 09/12/2008 2:18:53 PM

I read this only because I have so dumbfounded why women would support Palin. I look at this woman who is willing to leave a 5month old and let a 17 year old go through pregnancy without the hands on from her mother, the phone just isn't good enough. These 2 things speak to Sarah Palins character to me and I've come to the decision she has none. This is an all-about-me woman who takes no prisoners. I have seen these type of woman come and go my entire life and they are scarry. And I don't think she stand by her chrisitan faith, I see a person that when her faith will get her something she will go with it, when it's inconvienent she can easily be swayed. The comment about Lincoln in the World News Tonight is an example. There is no way that woman was reciting Lincoln when she made the comment that God wanted the war in Iraq. Her handlers look long and hard to come up with that one. This is a time when women need to use their god given talent to think and abandon this looney. And she did not destroy Gibson, she frustrated him beyond belief but destroy, what were you smoking while watching?

  • Posted By: Cascadia @ 09/12/2008 11:12:34 AM

Oh Honey you so don't understand your role in the media. Do you honestly think we care that you like the pretty girls in your high school and want to be part of their little cliche? This is such a superficial article that you have lost all credibility. I guess this explains why your daughter is going to grow up to be an airhead that gets pregnant at age 16

  • Posted By: DJWood148 @ 09/11/2008 5:25:02 PM

I confess I like Sarah Palin also...but...I do not agree with her stance on off shore and Alaskan drilling, women's rights, etc. I am nervous about her lack of experience: see Anna Quindlen's article about size of Alaska equal to Poughkeepsie. she seems naive to the reality of teen pregnancy in our families of lesser means than hers. Her extreme belief that women cannot have a CHOICE, as she and her daughter had, in pregnancy. Birth control is being linked with abortion and she advocates strongly for abstinence instead of honest, factual sex ed on our schools. I do not want her influence in selecting Supreme court judges. To support Hiliary and then to switch to Sarah seems like comparing apples and oranges.....

I realize Kathleen that you prefer the sadder side of life given Mr. Obama's relationship with known felons.
You have paid scant attention to the relationship between yo urpreferred candidate and Mr. Rezko, who was convicted on 16 of 24 federal counts. A jury found Obama's longtime friend and financier guilty of aiding and abetting bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering???all of which will likely contribute to a lengthy prison sentence.

Well how about McCain's buddy Keating? Come to think of it there was Bush's good friend Ken Lay, AKA Kennyboy before he suddenly became Mr. Lay, passed on to the great boardroom in the sky before justice could prevail. You RepubliCON's want to play the guilt by association card? Yeah we can do that too, even though like all guilt by association it doesn't , in the final analysis, mean squat.

. . . . errr , Obama has a large circle of people who have been a part of his life ( friends, colleagues, etc ) from the time he became community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, his run for Ill. senator. . .right up to his current run as POTUS:

        * RASHID KHALIDI (former PLO terrorist): http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/04/obama-bomber-ayers-partied-with-former.html

        * FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS (infamous pro-Soviet Communist Party member who was a mentor to Obama in his earlier days - from age 9 or 10 to 18 yrs old - until he left to go off to college). Davis sent Obama off to college and later Barack would admit that he attended socialist conferences and picked Marxist professors as his friends. http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2008/09/obamas-communist-mentor-frank-marshall.html

Sarah Palin is a blank slate. That is why so many people are able to project onto her any image or feeling they desire. Your last comment was enlightening and seems consistent with what is inevitable about all blank slates...they get written on.

      Part 1 of 3: SARAH PALIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS/EXPERIENCE

Firstly, there is no government closer to the people than at the municipal level.
Palin spent EIGHT (8) YEARS in CITY GOVERNMENT, winning a seat on the WASILLA CITY COUNCIL IN 1992 mostly thanks to her opposition to tax increases. She went on to serve two council terms from 1992 to 1996.

      THE MAYOR

She was elected MAYOR OF THE FAST-GROWING ANCHORAGE SUBURB IN 1996 and again in 1999. Mayor Palin had a record of REDUCING PROPERTY TAX LEVELS, increasing municipal services and ATTRACTING NEW INDUSTRY to her town.

During her tenure in Wassilla, she was elected CHAIR OF ALASKA CONFERENCE OF MAYORS. Next for Sarah Palin was service as CHAIR OF THE ALASKA CONSERVATION COMMITTEE, a board which regulates the states oil and gas industry. In this appointive position she began to gain what would become extensive and VALUABLE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE in the area of one of Americas most pressing issues - ENERGY. It was in this job where Palin first really demonstrated the toughness, political courage and maverick spirit that would years later so impress presidential candidate John McCain.

She RESIGNED in January 2004 as HEAD of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ETHICAL VIOLATIONS by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman. State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. However, she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who had been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.

In 2005, she continued to TAKE ON THE REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT by joining Eric Croft, a DEMOCRAT, in lodging an ethics complaint against Renkes, who was not only Attorney General, but also a long-time adviser and campaign manager for Murkowski. The GOVERNOR REPRIMANDED RENKES and said the case was closed. It wasnt. Renkes RESIGNED A FEW WEEKS LATER, and Palin was again hailed as a hero.

      GOVERNOR

In 2006, Palin ran for governor and was elected in a landslide. According to Fred Barnes:
With her emphasis on ethics and openness in government, it turned out Palin caught the temper of the times perfectly, wrote Tom Kizzia of the Anchorage Daily News. She was also lucky. News broke of an FBI investigation of corruption by legislators between the primary and general elections. So far, three legislators have been indicted.

(Continued in my post below - Sarah Palins accomplishments/experience)

      • Posted By: Georgia-Dan @ 09/10/2008 7:34:15 AM

These are only Republican talking points from the Republican drivel machine. I stand by my blank slate assessment. Palin supported the Bridge to Nowhere. By the way, she kept the $200 mil from the federal government that was EARMARKED for the project. She is a champion of EARMARKS. She hired a lobbyist to get more. She never SOLD the Alaska state plane on eBay. She never made a profit on its sale. All drivel.

Palin is being packaged and sold as someone she is not. This is what the Republican party has become. It's sad for the Republican party and a disaster for the country.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/10/2008 9:32:46 AM

Sarah Palin has CEO experience running a city and a large state - she has a wealth of executive experience. And she is the VP nominee, not President nominee.

Obama has no executive experience. . . and he is the on the top of the Dem. ticket.

          Enough said.

          • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/10/2008 1:38:39 PM

Where is McCain's executive experience, share? He is after all the top of the ticket. Or is he? McCain and the new tyrant will lose in November.

            • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/10/2008 3:50:40 PM

JOHN S. MCCAIN: A Proven Leader

In the Spring of 1975, John S. McCain was promoted from 2nd in Command and then on to Commanding Officer (CO). As Commanding Officer, John McCain led the largest squadron in the United States Navy Air Squadron, a massive Unit at Cecil Field in Jacksonville FLA.

McCain was responsible for running a squadron made up of 1,000 personnel and a fleet of 75 jets - which is equivalent to being a CEO of a small corporation. His squadrons mission there at Cecil Field was to get pilots trained and to maintain attack jets called A7s.

At Cecil Field, there were always 10 - 12 aircrafts in a pattern at any one time.
Cecil Field was a very active base, with operating hours from 7am one morning thru 2am or 3 am into the next morning.

A review of Navy records and interviews with more than a dozen of John McCains former colleagues paint a picture of a Commander who was lionized by his troops as a war hero and respected by aviators as being a fair and effective manager of his squadron; and he was fiercely loyal to those who worked for him.

              * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

As commanding officer (C.O.) McCain had ultimate authority over his Unit, and was given a wide latitude within the bounds of military law. In this role as CO, McCain had significant responsibilities, duties and powers as the leader of his squadron.

              • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/10/2008 10:56:58 PM

McCain has had 8 years to do something for the people of America..he didn't..instead he chose to back up Pres. Bush 95% of the time... he's done in Nov. So, with this said..I will ..Yawwwnnnn again.

Pia, You are changing the subject again, PIA. Here I go again. . Pls provide a resume as to what Obama has accomplished that assimilates in any way the duties of a CEO. . . what significant executive leadership skills has OBAMA exemplified compared over the years that compare to e.g. leading a municipality and a US state like Gov. Palin or being Commander Officer of a personnel of 1000 and 75 attack jets in one of the largest US Navy Air squadron back in the mid 70s like McCain was? I provided in depth detail as to how Gov Palin qualifies and how McCain does in the CEO capacity. Now I ask you to do the same in support of Obama (this is my THIRD request now).

                  • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/11/2008 10:53:20 AM

Sharenews, I am not changing the subject. I replied to you in a similar comment below but I will once again repeat and be a little more informative. One, McCain's commander-what about that?He had 1000 navy men under him? Okay. How does this make him similar to a CEO? To me, not at all..he did not run a city nor a state nor a town. I will admit a governor has more hands down experience in this dept so that makes Palin more experinced than McCain who is running for president. What's wrong with this picture? This sends me a message that McCain is aware that he would not be able to be elected nor run the country without Palin. Obama who is younger, has done more than McC has done in his 30 years in DC, is more. Obama has a law degree from Harvard., community organizer in Chicago, State Senator from Illinois, Prof. at law at an Illinois University.. US senator and for a blackman he has done the most impressive thing, winning the presidentail nomination for the Dem party. McCain-Besides commander in the navy and US senator what else has McCain actually done all these years? He wasn't CEO of anything.. not even a bank.. We do know he was involved in a bank scandal...yes.. old folks lost millions of dollars.. I'm sure he profited.
qualified to run the country than McCain....

God, you are exhausting Pia. I have gone more than out of my way to explain the CEO experience that both Governor Palin and Senator McCain have and all I got back from you is that you do not care about Obamas executive experience in response up above in one of your blogs. So if you dont get it at this point you are on your own to think whatever you want to believe. Im through with you on taking this discussion any further. It is like I need to bang you head against a wall to get it so you keep drinking that Kool-aid and we will agree to disagree. .

Sharenews-My candidate Obama has the brains to run this country or any other..your candidate is just another out of touch, old fashioned, war mongering Rep. politician who has no clue as to what is going on in the country. This CEO experience you insistMcCain has is a joke. He has even admitted he has no clue about our economy. He can't even learn how to use a compute. I wonder if he even drives. You go bang your head against the wall. Again, you are only supporting McCain to keep Obama from winning. I do agree on one thing, this discussion is over, thank you.

McCain was revered by many on the base: Testimonials

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John was a commander who did not attempt to tell people how to do jobs (no micro-management) . . . instead he picked PEOPLE HE HAD CONFIDENCE IN and INSPIRED them to rise to the highest level of their own ability.

Sharleen Hollenback, Navy enlistee under McCain:

                * He was a very ACCESSIBLE person
                * He was very KIND
                * He CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE that worked in his Squadron
                * I very much ADMIRED him and felt like was part of something very important in that squadron.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John would talk to the Sr. chief and KID him, given him a hard time, saying things like ???what about your behavior chief?, what about your drinking?, huh, huh, huh???? . . .which would rock them back on their heels while the rest of the crew and shop WATCHED IN FASCINATION at how McCain was interacting with their chief petty officer.

That was part of his unorthodox HANDS-ON STYLE. John was not one to cloister himself away in his office on the 2nd floor of the Squadrons airplane hanger.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

Instead, on a DAILY basis he would WALK THROUGH the maintenance spaces, all the functional shops on THE BASE. He would go though the engine shop, the hydraulic shop, the fuel shop, the weapons shop - every one of them. He would GO IN AND TALK TO ALL the folks in the shops.

Jim Lichtenwalter - fellow office, Cecil Field:

I just think that he did a great job of making himself understand what other peoples jobs were and what their responsibilities were. . .

In its heyday in the Vietnam era, Cecil Field was buzzing with THOUSANDS OF NAVY OFFICERS ENLISTEES, AND THEIR FAMILIES.

                J. B. Renninger, former Navy Pilot at Cecil Field:

You would have anywhere from 10 - 12 aircrafts in a pattern at any one time, doing touch and go???s
We would operate from 7am one morning thru 2am or 3 am into the NEXT morning. It was a very ACTIVE BASE then.

Cecil Field was John McCains last posting with the Naval Squadron, but one that would CARRY RELEVANCE today as HE LOOKS TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY.

Yawwwwwnnnnn. Still obsessed with getting even with Obama for winning...Hillary at lesst is supporting him...Obama wins in Nov. Say uncle.

Im beyond just getting even with Obama. I am in McCain/Palin support mode now. I have gone into depth about Sen. McCains CEO experience and Gov. Palins CEO experience and as I originally asked, I expect you provide a resume of Obamas CEO experience of leadership of an embodiment that compares to Gov. Palins leadership of a municipality and one of the largest states in the US and McCains experience as Comanding Officer of the largest US Navy Air Squadrons (1000 personnel, 75 attack jets) in the country at the height of his military career. I challenge YOU now. . . for the 3rd time!!!!!!!. . .to do the same for Mr. O.

Sharenews, how many presidents and VP's have had CEO experience? Is governing a state CEO experience? If so, than every governor in this country is presidential material. McCain's so called CEO experience certainly has not helped him do jack for this country within the last 8 years...he had the other CEO expert Bush do whatever he wanted and he supported him 95% of the time.. so please stop with all this cut and paste BS..it won't work with me. If you really must stress on this new CEO BS you are now trying to endorse, well then, I say Obama is the man with the hands down experience..he was a cummunity organizer in Chicago, so yes, he does have some experience. The man is also a top graduate of Harvard.. he is an attorney as is Bill Clinton. Obama is in the same league as Bill Clinton. Bill did an excelelnt job as president.. O will too. McCain finished at the bottom of the class. McCain is not an attorney

Correction- McCain's Commanding Officer and squadron experience- not CEO experience- what about it? He had 1000 navy men under him, so? To you this makes him fit to run the country? My sister's father-in-law had as many navy men under him..does that make him presidential material? How many American generals, admirals, commanders have run for president and won? None that I know of including General Wesley Clark. You are so desperate to keep Obama out fo the White House that you are furiously posting anything you can get your hands on to glorify McCain and this faux experience. Yes, he's a hero and I am grateful for that but that doesn't mean he deserves to be or would make a good president.

                        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/11/2008 10:14:55 AM

Continued- Bottom line- in the 30 years he has been in DC, McCain has not proven he can run a country.. if so he would have run for president years ago..He is not fit to be president, period. Why wait until 72 years of age to run? His age is one the reasons he chose Palin. The other- to gain bitter Hillary supporters, Obama haters, such as you. They sure aren't flocking over to him. 81% are backing Obama. McCain/Palin lose in Nov.

So, share this is all the big experience? What am I missing? Now who is the empty suit?

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/10/2008 4:14:45 PM

Pia, you are coocoo for cocoa puffs. If this sampling of Governor Palins accomplishments is an empty suit (as a VP nom), then Obama is a naked man standing with a figleaf over his privates (and that is as a Pres. nominee). Pls. list Obamas executive experience as a commanding officer of anything significant comparatively.
          . . .

You're a kook who is still obsessed with Hillary. Btw, where is your boyfriend Davole lately? Did you know he actually tried to pick me up on the internet and when I wasn't interested he harassed me..Nice guy..

            • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/11/2008 7:39:17 AM

If I were obsessed with Hillary I would be jumping to her request to drink the Obama Kool-aide. Did not work for me. BTW, Obama is meeting with your favorite guy, Bill Clinton in Harlem today. I thought he didnt need the Clintons? Hahaha. I wonder what deal Obama will have to suck up to to get Bills expertise to get him out of this declining mode he is in now with the campaign. . . what does Obama have to do to suck up to Bill today? LMAO.

              • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/11/2008 9:41:28 AM

Obama doesn't have to suck up to Bill nor anyone else. have you ever heard of the word loyalty? If you still support Hillary, you have. But your support has more to do with why you don't want Obama than why you wanted Hillary. Look, sharenews, I don't want to fight not call you names nor hurt your feelings, but there is a reason why many posters here have referred to you as smearnews and scarenews regarding our total obsession and fear over Obama becoming president. What exactly do you fear of Obama? Like Hillary, he is a moderate Democrat..Hillary and Obama believe in the same issues and policies..do they not?

(Continued from my post above-Part 2 of 3: Sarah Palins accomplishments/experience)

IN THE ROUGHLY THREE YEARS since she quit as the states chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has CRUSHED THE REPUBLICAN HIERARCHY (virtually all male) and nearly every other FOE OR CRITIC. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the BODY COUNT of Palins rivals. The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah, says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes RUEDRICH, RENKES, MURKOWSKI, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the THREE BIG OIL COMPANIES in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called Voice of the Times, which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.

As Governor, Sarah Palins LIST OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS LENGTHENED RAPIDLY.
      * She used her line-item veto to cut $268 million from Alaskas state budget.
      * She stood up to some of Alaskas most entrenched interests, including three big oil companies (BP, ConocoPhilips, and ExxonMobil) who hold the lease rights to much of Alaskas oil and gas wealth.

      * Once in office, Palin took an AGGRESSIVE STANCE toward the OIL COMPANIES. Her nickname from high-school basketball, Sarah Barracuda, was resurrected in the press. Early in her term, she shocked oil lobbyists when she was so bold as to not show up when Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson came to Juneau to meet with her. Palin, after scrapping Murkowskis deal, WOULD NOT GIVE BIG OIL THE TERMS THEY WANTED, yet insisted that the companies still had an obligation under their lease to deliver gas to whatever pipeline Alaska built. She invited the oil companies to place open bids to build a pipeline, but they refused. A bid by TransCanada, North Americas largest pipeline builder, was approved by the legislature in August.

      * Palin also RAISED TAXES ON OIL COMPANIES after Murkowskis previous tax regime PRODUCED FALLING REVENUES in 2007, DESPITE SKYROCKETING OIL PRICES. Alaska now has some of the highest resource taxes in the world. Alaskas oil tax REVENUES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOUT $10 BILLION in 2008, twice those of previous year. BP says about half its oil revenues now go to taxes, when royalty payments to the state are included.

      * Recently, Palin APPROVED GAS TAX RELIEF FOR ALASKANS, and paid every resident $1,200 to help ease their fuel-price burden.

      * Some other Palin accomplishments include supporting and signing an ETHICS BILL passed by the Alaska legislature and creating the ALASKA HEALTH STRATEGIES PLANNING COUNCIL to find innovative solutions to effectively provide access to, and help reduce the costs of, healthcare.

(Continued in my post below - Sara Palins accomplishments/experience)

      • Posted By: Georgia-Dan @ 09/10/2008 7:39:43 AM

The so called "tax relief' for Alaskans was accomplished by taxing oil piped through Alaska to the lower 48 states. I thought Republicans were against new corporate taxes? Isn't that in your platform? This "tax relief" enjoyed by Alaskans was then paid for in higher fuels costs borne by the rest of us. Pailin didn't give Alaskans anything...the American people in the lower 48 states paid every Alaskan their $1200 by paying exorbitant prices for Alaskan oil.

(Continued from my post above - Part 3 of 3: Sarah Palins accomplishments/experience)

      * As governor, Palin is commander of her states National Guard. Not content to merely sit on the title, she traveled to Kuwait to learn about her troops mission there. On the return trip to Alaska, she stopped in Germany to visit wounded soldiers in the hospital, an activity that Barack Obama did not see fit to engage in during his own overseas venture, blaming the Pentagon for his snubbing of the wounded.

      * More accomplishments: Gov. Palin signed a RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE FAAS PLAN TO INCREASE TAXES ON AVIATION FUEL, IMPOSE USER FEES AND SLASH AIRPORT FUNDING.

      * Also, before Palin became governor, her predecessor Frank Murkowski had purchased a Westwind Two business jet for the governors use at a $2.5 million price tag, despite the objections from the state legislature and the public. Her first order of business after taking office was to PUT THE JET UP FOR SALE. Palin did keep the governors state-owned Chevy Suburban, but she got RID OF THE DRIVER, saying it was WASTEFUL for the state to pay someone to drive her around, since she was perfectly capable of driving herself. The governors gourmet chef also got changed from a full-time to a seasonal-only basis because Palin considered it a luxury SHE DID NOT THINK ALASKANS SHOULD BE PAYING for. Her political enemies called all this superficial pandering.

      * Alaska is the only one of Americas states which borders on two foreign countries. Sarah Palin is CHIEF EXECUTIVE of our most important ENERGY STATE, one which lies only a few miles from Russian territory. She has negotiated sensitive agreements on fishing rights and other matters to keep the peace up there. She has also worked on important trade deals with other countries. She has received foreign heads of state and had discussions with them.

There are many benefits to having Governor Sarah Palin on the GOP presidential ticket, and many of them have been already been discussed extensively by both new media and old in the few short days since John McCain introduced her to the GOP in Ohio. They all rest on a rock-solid base of achievement. SHE IS ONE VERY ACCOMPLISHED VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE.
