TO Pia: Below is the response to your post (Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/10/2008 13:13:57 way below) to support John McCains executive leadership experience as POTUS. Now I ask you (again) what Obamas resume shows that he is experienced to lead this country as a commanding officer in the White House?

JOHN S. MCCAIN: An Executive Ready to Lead

In the Spring of 1975, John S. McCain was promoted from 2nd in Command and then on to Commanding Officer (CO). As Commanding Officer, John McCain led the largest squadron in the United States Navy Air Squadron, a massive Unit at Cecil Field in Jacksonville FLA.

McCain was responsible for running a squadron made up of 1,000 personnel and a fleet of 75 jets - which is equivalent to being a CEO of a small corporation. His squadrons mission there at Cecil Field was to get pilots trained and to maintain attack jets called A7s.

At Cecil Field, there were always 10 - 12 aircrafts in a pattern at any one time.
Cecil Field was a very active base, with operating hours from 7am one morning thru 2am or 3 am into the next morning.

A review of Navy records and interviews with more than a dozen of John McCains former colleagues paint a picture of a Commander who was lionized by his troops as a war hero and respected by aviators as being a fair and effective manager of his squadron; and he was fiercely loyal to those who worked for him.

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

As commanding officer (C.O.) McCain had ultimate authority over his Unit, and was given a wide latitude within the bounds of military law. In this role as CO, McCain had significant responsibilities, duties and powers as the leader of his squadron.

McCain was revered by many on the base: Testimonials

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John was a commander who did not attempt to tell people how to do jobs (no micro-management) . . . instead he picked PEOPLE HE HAD CONFIDENCE IN and INSPIRED them to rise to the highest level of their own ability.

Sharleen Hollenback, Navy enlistee under McCain:

      * He was a very ACCESSIBLE person
      * He was very KIND
      * He CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE that worked in his Squadron
      * I very much ADMIRED him and felt like was part of something very important in that squadron.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

John would talk to the Sr. chief and KID him, given him a hard time, saying things like ???what about your behavior chief?, what about your drinking?, huh, huh, huh???? . . .which would rock them back on their heels while the rest of the crew and shop WATCHED IN FASCINATION at how McCain was interacting with their chief petty officer.

That was part of his unorthodox HANDS-ON STYLE. John was not one to cloister himself away in his office on the 2nd floor of the Squadrons airplane hanger.

Carl M. Smith - fellow officer, Cecil Field:

Instead, on a DAILY basis he would WALK THROUGH the maintenance spaces, all the functional shops on THE BASE. He would go though the engine shop, the hydraulic shop, the fuel shop, the weapons shop - every one of them. He would GO IN AND TALK TO ALL the folks in the shops.

Jim Lichtenwalter - fellow office, Cecil Field:

I just think that he did a great job of making himself understand what other peoples jobs were and what their responsibilities were. . .

In its heyday in the Vietnam era, Cecil Field was buzzing with THOUSANDS OF NAVY OFFICERS ENLISTEES, AND THEIR FAMILIES.

      J. B. Renninger, former Navy Pilot at Cecil Field:

You would have anywhere from 10 - 12 aircrafts in a pattern at any one time, doing touch and go???s
We would operate from 7am one morning thru 2am or 3 am into the NEXT morning. It was a very ACTIVE BASE then.

Cecil Field was John McCains last posting with the Naval Squadron, but one that would CARRY RELEVANCE today as HE LOOKS TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY.

After all the dust settles on the selection of Palin, I am sure reasonable minded people will see her extreme views, and realize she is nowhere near qualified to be one heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world should McCain be elected.

    She is a cute story, and the flavor of the month - however this isn't "The View" or "Survivor", this is actually a very important election. All we AMERICANS need to do is ask these few questions of the Republicans;

    1. Was Sarah Palin the most qualified Republican to be President in the event of McCain being incapacitated? Does anyone in their right mind actually believe that?

    2. Does Palin meet the threshold that McCain himself said he wanted in a VP? The ability to be President?

    3. If not, how exactly is McCain putting "Country First? How???

McCain has put our country at great risk in order to cynically advance his campaign. He has dishonored his service to this nation and continues to run a dishonorable campaign. You can talk all you want about patriotism - but her selection couldn't be less patriotic, and his behavior is embarassing to watch - as I was a fan of his 8 years ago. He's been reduced to a sad, old puppet of the right.

This tactic sadly has been effective - all us AMERICANS can hope for is the press to lead our shallow nation back toward the issues that matter...

By the way - if you supported Hillary, and now support Palin - you may want to examine her record a little deeper; Abortion illegal in cases of Rape; The Iraq war is God's plan; Wanted to ban Library books; Against stem-cell research; Abused power while in office; Lies repeatedly on the campaign trail about her opposition to earmarks and the bridge to nowhere - etc....

Nice lady. Nice looking..........Thanks but no thanks........

The Republicans don't think we're stupid......They know we are..

Pia, Governor Palin and the executive experience (CEO) needed to be a VP. What is Obamas executive experience?
          * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
          Part 1 of 3: SARAH PALIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS/EXPERIENCE

Firstly, there is no government closer to the people than at the municipal level.
Palin spent EIGHT (8) YEARS in CITY GOVERNMENT, winning a seat on the WASILLA CITY COUNCIL IN 1992 mostly thanks to her opposition to tax increases. She went on to serve two council terms from 1992 to 1996.

          THE MAYOR

She was elected MAYOR OF THE FAST-GROWING ANCHORAGE SUBURB IN 1996 and again in 1999. Mayor Palin had a record of REDUCING PROPERTY TAX LEVELS, increasing municipal services and ATTRACTING NEW INDUSTRY to her town.

During her tenure in Wassilla, she was elected CHAIR OF ALASKA CONFERENCE OF MAYORS. Next for Sarah Palin was service as CHAIR OF THE ALASKA CONSERVATION COMMITTEE, a board which regulates the states oil and gas industry. In this appointive position she began to gain what would become extensive and VALUABLE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE in the area of one of Americas most pressing issues - ENERGY. It was in this job where Palin first really demonstrated the toughness, political courage and maverick spirit that would years later so impress presidential candidate John McCain.

She RESIGNED in January 2004 as HEAD of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ETHICAL VIOLATIONS by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman. State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. However, she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who had been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.

In 2005, she continued to TAKE ON THE REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT by joining Eric Croft, a DEMOCRAT, in lodging an ethics complaint against Renkes, who was not only Attorney General, but also a long-time adviser and campaign manager for Murkowski. The GOVERNOR REPRIMANDED RENKES and said the case was closed. It wasnt. Renkes RESIGNED A FEW WEEKS LATER, and Palin was again hailed as a hero.

          GOVERNOR

In 2006, Palin ran for governor and was elected in a landslide. According to Fred Barnes:
With her emphasis on ethics and openness in government, it turned out Palin caught the temper of the times perfectly, wrote Tom Kizzia of the Anchorage Daily News. She was also lucky. News broke of an FBI investigation of corruption by legislators between the primary and general elections. So far, three legislators have been indicted.

(Continued from my post above-Part 2 of 3: Sarah Palins accomplishments/experience)

IN THE ROUGHLY THREE YEARS since she quit as the states chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has CRUSHED THE REPUBLICAN HIERARCHY (virtually all male) and nearly every other FOE OR CRITIC. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the BODY COUNT of Palins rivals. The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah, says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes RUEDRICH, RENKES, MURKOWSKI, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the THREE BIG OIL COMPANIES in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called Voice of the Times, which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.

As Governor, Sarah Palins LIST OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS LENGTHENED RAPIDLY.
          * She used her line-item veto to cut $268 million from Alaskas state budget.
          * She stood up to some of Alaskas most entrenched interests, including three big oil companies (BP, ConocoPhilips, and ExxonMobil) who hold the lease rights to much of Alaskas oil and gas wealth.

          * Once in office, Palin took an AGGRESSIVE STANCE toward the OIL COMPANIES. Her nickname from high-school basketball, Sarah Barracuda, was resurrected in the press. Early in her term, she shocked oil lobbyists when she was so bold as to not show up when Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson came to Juneau to meet with her. Palin, after scrapping Murkowskis deal, WOULD NOT GIVE BIG OIL THE TERMS THEY WANTED, yet insisted that the companies still had an obligation under their lease to deliver gas to whatever pipeline Alaska built. She invited the oil companies to place open bids to build a pipeline, but they refused. A bid by TransCanada, North Americas largest pipeline builder, was approved by the legislature in August.

          * Palin also RAISED TAXES ON OIL COMPANIES after Murkowskis previous tax regime PRODUCED FALLING REVENUES in 2007, DESPITE SKYROCKETING OIL PRICES. Alaska now has some of the highest resource taxes in the world. Alaskas oil tax REVENUES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOUT $10 BILLION in 2008, twice those of previous year. BP says about half its oil revenues now go to taxes, when royalty payments to the state are included.

          * Recently, Palin APPROVED GAS TAX RELIEF FOR ALASKANS, and paid every resident $1,200 to help ease their fuel-price burden.

          * Some other Palin accomplishments include supporting and signing an ETHICS BILL passed by the Alaska legislature and creating the ALASKA HEALTH STRATEGIES PLANNING COUNCIL to find innovative solutions to effectively provide access to, and help reduce the costs of, healthcare.

(Continued in my post below - Sara Palins accomplishments/experience)

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/10/2008 1:59:32 PM

(Continued from my post above - Part 3 of 3: Sarah Palins accomplishments/experience)

          * As governor, Palin is commander of her states National Guard. Not content to merely sit on the title, she traveled to Kuwait to learn about her troops mission there. On the return trip to Alaska, she stopped in Germany to visit wounded soldiers in the hospital, an activity that Barack Obama did not see fit to engage in during his own overseas venture, blaming the Pentagon for his snubbing of the wounded.

          * More accomplishments: Gov. Palin signed a RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE FAAS PLAN TO INCREASE TAXES ON AVIATION FUEL, IMPOSE USER FEES AND SLASH AIRPORT FUNDING.

          * Also, before Palin became governor, her predecessor Frank Murkowski had purchased a Westwind Two business jet for the governors use at a $2.5 million price tag, despite the objections from the state legislature and the public. Her first order of business after taking office was to PUT THE JET UP FOR SALE. Palin did keep the governors state-owned Chevy Suburban, but she got RID OF THE DRIVER, saying it was WASTEFUL for the state to pay someone to drive her around, since she was perfectly capable of driving herself. The governors gourmet chef also got changed from a full-time to a seasonal-only basis because Palin considered it a luxury SHE DID NOT THINK ALASKANS SHOULD BE PAYING for. Her political enemies called all this superficial pandering.

          * Alaska is the only one of Americas states which borders on two foreign countries. Sarah Palin is CHIEF EXECUTIVE of our most important ENERGY STATE, one which lies only a few miles from Russian territory. She has negotiated sensitive agreements on fishing rights and other matters to keep the peace up there. She has also worked on important trade deals with other countries. She has received foreign heads of state and had discussions with them.

There are many benefits to having Governor Sarah Palin on the GOP presidential ticket, and many of them have been already been discussed extensively by both new media and old in the few short days since John McCain introduced her to the GOP in Ohio. They all rest on a rock-solid base of achievement. SHE IS ONE VERY ACCOMPLISHED VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE.

Since you like her so much, maybe you can have a beer with her after the election and your nation goes down the tubes. Oh, yeah, she's the kind of woman you can have a beer with while you watch old reruns of Petticoat Junction and Hee Haw? Oh yeah that's right, it didn't work out that well with "that guy" who the media liked who we could have a beer with did it... and now we have 4,000+ dead because of it. So Ms. Keveny, have your beer, while you dance on the graves of your country men and women. It "is" far more important to plays by her own rules then by the rules and obligations set forth in the Constitution.

I agree Sarah Palin is a very attractive vivacious woman. But we're talking about the Presidency and Vice Presidency of the United States of America.
We are facing economic chaos, a diminished stature in the world, a health care system that ranks 37th in the world, global warming and more.

I really don't think this country could survive another 4 to 8 years of a faith based administration.

We are talking about people who don't even believe in Science, but believe we are in a war that is a mission from God.
They believe the trickle down economic system is working.
We only have to continue giving tax breaks to the wealthy and things will be just fine, if that's true why so do many not think things are ???just fine??? and why would anyone other than the wealthiest want to continue these policies.

The fact is neither McCain or Palin are qualified to lead this nation.

Ms. Deveny- What a fantastic, honest article. You have my respect for this one. I say, GO AHEAD and vote for McCain & Palin. You can "step over Roe v. Wade" and vote for McCain, with the confidence that the right to choose will never change in the USA. While Roe v. Wade may be "overturned" someday, that does not mean the the right to choose will immediately be GONE, does it? Examine some of the responses below from NOBAMA followers and ask yourself, do you want to be identified with these people? You can maintain your support for the right to choose AND vote for McCain. I encourage you to VOTE FOR MCCAIN/PALIN, and I applaud you for a great article.

    • Posted By: NLump @ 09/10/2008 12:56:30 AM

Here is the problem. Once it is overturned it goes to states, which many conservative will outlaw, and if it goes farther than this we will be back to back alley doctors in non-sterile facilities. It's a matter of progression not degression. The ruling is and was fair, why are we now saying it's ok to overturn a huge step for women. One of my good friends just finished med school, she was pregnant at 16 and had a first term abortion. She tells me now that if she would have had a child she would never have been able to pursue her dream. Roe v. Wade is about freedom, Freedom of the individual to choose whatever course they deem. We do not all share the same values but we do share the individual freedoms to express our views and hopefully make good choices for a better life.

      • Posted By: valark @ 09/10/2008 1:56:29 PM

The true problem is everyone seems to miss the reason the justices vote for the right to choose. It stems from the right to privacy and personal privacy. It will not be overturned, its just hype.

Gov Palin prides herself in being the ???pit bull with lipstick??? and now she and Senator McCain want to take credit for her being a ???pig with lipstick???, which of course is their privilege. If Senator Obama wanted to insult her I doubt it would be that veiled and subtle or unimportant as there is so much he could address with real meaning. Obama-Biden are literally focused on the issues, on what is important to the people, while McCain-Palin instead have emphatically stated they want it to be about personalities. Now why would they do that when all you have to do is look and see that the country desperately needs and wants change? Maybe because when you take away the camouflage on what McCain-Palin offer, all you find is more of the same. Maybe they have no choice because who they are loyal, indebted and committed to are those that want to continue with more of the same. The Republicans just want to make issues out of the meaningless and totally forget about the meaning in the issues. They could be called the party of one-liners, cute but empty.

Comment: I agree. As a army paratrooper, I would go to war with Sarah; or for her. All Americans want leaders with conservative principles; unlike Obama, Bill, Kerry, cancer stricken wife cheater, and of course HRC. Let us think as Americans and decide what is best for the greatest country in the world. Country first!

Right. "All" Americans want people with "conservative principles" in power. Conservative principles like cheating on your wife (who waited for you for 5 1/2 years) with countless women, then marrying a rich heiress; being against sex-ed, yet trotting out your pregnant, unmarried daughter (Sarah Palin); dumping your cancer stricken wife as she lay sick and dying to marry your secret girlfriend, then dumping her for another woman you cheated with (Newt Gingrich); lying to the American public and the world for reasons to go to war (Bush, Cheney, Condi, and the whole gang). Oh, yes, we're all for such principles.

Share, show me her beauty... She's ordinary. I'm surprised she even made it as beauty contestant..she's okay but no beauty... she's a bully. A male friend who's a Rep who supports her thinks she's plain..

Once again America is caught up in a tight Presidential race and with a whole lot of emotion being placed on the questions who is the most experienced, who has demonstrated a real understanding of Iraq, who has the best plan for fighting terrorism, who comprehends and can best resolve Global Warming, energy costs, dependence on foreign oil, rising unemployment, growing inflation, rising cost of living, runaway medical costs, humongous deficit, growing trade deficit, lost jobs, lost revenue, declining family values, who is the most intelligent, who is the best looking, who is the most likable,,, and not to forget the subdued racial issue. Is there any one issue that could make all of those issues subordinate and that then could be considered above the rest? I think so and that is simply honesty. What each candidate offers on each of those issues is important but when discerning who to vote for, if we can???t trust their answers, if they practice a policy of deceit, if they literally use a strategy of boldly, arrogantly and continually lying without hesitation or conscience, as if that is their privilege, then their answers are meaningless and all we can expect from them is more lies. Now both candidates and their supporters will say it is the other doing that but is there any real and consistent evidence that one side is literally being aggressively dishonest? I think there is irrefutable evidence that is the case. As I see it, it has been a consistent Republican strategy, a Karl Rove like tactic, to say whatever they want loudly, boldly, often and have others repeat it so that some will accept it; if they get cornered, then they just arrogantly, boldly and dishonestly say something else the same way and move on. It can be denied but it is what we have constantly witnessed with most everything from the Bush Administration over the last eight years. Even Scott McClellan in his book WHAT HAPPENED told us that President Bush consistently practiced self-deceit (Scott???s words) and it would be really hard to find anything that they haven???t lied about, either to justify or rationalize or excuse or to hide or even to attack their opponent. Senator McCain also does it but isn???t quite as bold as Gov Palin who is right up to the task and could give Bush a run for his money. There is so much that is coming out now that shows she has no hesitation or restricting conscience to stop her from saying anything. Like Bush, she is bold, arrogant, feisty and dishonest, as she herself says, ???a pit bull with lipstick??? but also extreme and even bazaar in her beliefs and actions. I could provide a long list but it would go on for some length and anyway it is all there to be seen by anyone who wants to be rational and objectively look and those who don???t, they will just use the Rove tactic to rationalize that Obama is worse. Hopefully this time around there will be enough voters concerned for the truth and we will then get it right in November.

It's no secret that I don't like Sarah Palin at all. As a woman and ex Rep. I don't identify with her at all. I see her as a hypocrite and the typical attack dog Rep. So sorry, my Sky.

    Obama 08!

There we go again, some say: " Way to go Palin: and others: " No, way Palin"
Palin is fine for Alaska, but does not belong in the White House, she will not take on Good Old Boy Network.
They are not afraid of her barking. She barks but does noit bite, and she will not be allowed to bite anyone in D.C. On the other side, she is even less seen as an candidate to stand up to take on the World's issues with other foreign dignitaries. Do you think that any russian President will take Palin seriously??? They will aske her to join them hunting in Siberia. Last comment, Hillary was not good to becoma a President, but Palin is supposedly a great choice for a VP. This says someting about double standards in our country. Good Old Boys were afraid of Hillary, while Palin will eat from their hand.
