Did you watch the same speech I did? So you like Snark? Is Obama to smart for you too? I wouldn't have a beer with Bush if you paid me!

    • Posted By: Uncle Silas @ 09/08/2008 5:33:23 PM

I loved the irony of people saying that Bush was the kind of guy they would like to have at their Barbecue and have a beer with, all the while ignoring that Bush was a former alcoholic who (supposedly) doesn't drink anymore! Sarah Palin attended a church that is one step up from Appalachian snake handlers! Watch her video on you tube, and be very afraid. They rank right in there with The Branch Davidians on the Looney scale.
Figure it out people. John McCain is for change about as much as a snake oil salesman is for truth.

Your qualifying article is a perfect example of why women in America can be more like the woman you admire, Sarah Palin, by abandoning your little "secret" liberal mentality and support her conservative views. Women seem to be intimidated by the liberal establishment--rather, you should "come out" and openly state that you really have a jealous vendetta against this God-fearing woman politician who can stand for righteous principles and God-fearing ideals and still be successful in public political arena and front. Why don't you show your readers you aren't double-minded and bravely and unequivocally endorse her and McCain? Perhaps you can send a message to your readers that you are not just another crass reporter who uses coy devices to undermine a politician--like the media that has attacked the daughter's moral indiscretions and failings. Maybe you can actually openly and completely stand-up to the liberal masses and voice to millions of prospective readers the very thing that Sarah Palin believes in and openly states--without undermining her. You've tried to appease the popular media by inferring you understand why she's popular, but could never vote in favor of Sarah Palin because she is too conservative!

That is a dirty little secret...you should have told no one.

The GOP is counting on you. They are counting on women who will fall so in love with "the narrative" that they will throw all reason out the window.

Palin does not stand with Hillary Clinton on the issues. Remember the issues: economy, war, health care, education, ethics, America's standing in the world? And on the "family issues"...she's a nightmare. Anti-choice...abstinence-only sex ed...and the rest come right out of the neo-con, fundamentalist/evangelical playbook...

Just wait...wait for a real, strong, bright, caring woman like Clinton to have a shot...it's better than selling out for this one.

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 09/08/2008 4:47:33 PM

You're right. I would much rather vote for a woman who got there on her husbands coat tails. Are you kidding? Hillary is no dummy but would be a lawyer somewhere in the middle of nowhere had it not been for Bill. You are not a supporter of women in poltics you are a supporter of women who act like men in politics. Quit kidding yourself!!!

This is a very, very sophisticated attack piece on Palin. Very impressive. The media have learned that frontal attacks on Palin have strengthened her. So look for more pieces like this one. The writer begins it by actually lauding Palin and saying she likes her. Then the writer does a very careful turn and communicates the idea that she (and you, the reader!!!) should not vote for any attractive candidate that is not pro-abortion. The slightly left leaning reader is thus encouraged to stay Democratic and forget the attraction she feels for Palin. Reader should expect to see many more MSM pieces employing sophisticated writing techniques as this one.

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 09/08/2008 4:40:22 PM

Great observation! Myself, I am pro choice but have never understood someone who is Soooo! pro choice that they would not vote for someone soley on that issue. I just don't get it! That goes either way too! If your take on this is correct then this lady would make a hell of a salesperson. You very well may be right!!

Folks, let us thank Palin for taking off the gloves! Now we are all going to take punches at her without anybody charging us with gender bias. Afterall, we are all citizen journalists.

I live in Washington DC and I can tell you that with her educational background in Washington DC, Palin would probably be driving a cab, working in a restaurant/night club, working as a manager for a retail company, or just a low/ or if lucky middle level manager in any job situation, etc. Off course, you know that Washington DC is the city or geographical district with the highest percentage of college graduates in the USA compared to any other state/ district at 46 percent. The following is Palin???s education background.

    ???Biography
    Personal
Birthdate: February 11, 1964 (Sandpoint, Idaho)
    Hometown: Wasilla, Alaska
    Spouse: Todd Palin
Children: Track Palin, Bristol Palin, Willow Palin, Piper Palin and Trig Palin
    Education:
Bachelor???s degree from the University of Idaho in 1987. She attended five colleges in six years to get this Bachelor???s degree.
    Wasilla High School in 1982

In Wasilla, population of about 9,000, she was on the city council for two terms, became mayor for two terms, run the town into a $20 million budget deficit. Not to mention that she paid lobbyists to lobby for $27 million in federal earmarks for the Wasilla town. She was not successful in her run as Lt.Gov of Alaska and waited for Alaska to elect her as Governor because she was a lessor corrupt politician. The population of Alaska is less than 700,000.

Now after 20 months as Governor, she thinks that Biden???s chairmanship of various important committees in the Senate of the US is high school stuff and another Alaskan chicken feed.

I do not blame her for assuming that she is more qualified than Biden but for the mentally recessive campaign of John McCain which thinks they can play the same old politics on our minds. What makes Sarah Palin think she is more qualified than Biden? She better know that Washington DC, where the Vice President???s office is located is not boondocks Alaska.

Operating as Vice President requires some serious intellectual weight / depth which Palin has not got on the face of it. Off course she is a pitbull hockey-mom with rouge lipsticks which Biden does not have. But we do not just need a pitbull rouge lipstick hockey-mom as Vice President. Typical Karl Rove and John McCain political playbook. If you cannot debate the issues, then tear down the personality. AMERICA DESERVES BETTER!

Are you serious? This is the kind of talk that gives liberal a bad name. Throwing around their superior education as if it matter. I can't believe that you are actually bragging about how smart Washington DC is, because that surely has work over the years, having all those brilliant people there. You sir are an idiot!!!!!

  • Posted By: Dav0933 @ 09/08/2008 3:57:21 PM

Wow, you liked her the instant you saw her picture. That's quite an endorsement. Perhaps when you sit down with her and have a Red Bull you can ask her why she has been lying about her views on things like the\"Bridge to Nowhere" or her view on making a woman have the baby even in rape or incest. Hope you get the right answers!

Palin is pro-life, opposing abortion in all cases except when the mother's life is in danger. She opposes same-sex marriage and favors teaching creationism alongside evolution in schools.

But she hasn't pushed for legislative changes in any of those areas.

To me that says that she recognizes the limits of government and the importance of personal choice. Perhaps even more than the "liberals" who vaunt "pro-choice" above the image of Michelle Obama standing behind her man and taking care of the kids on her own while they talk on the phone with daddy.

Which family seems the most feminist to you?

  • Posted By: wendy027 @ 09/08/2008 2:04:08 PM

It seems Palin had written in a questionnaire that she opposed "explicit" sex-ed programs, so she was asked:

In a recent survey you said that you would support abstinence-until-marriage education but that you would not support explicit sex-ed programs. What are explicit sex-ed programs, and does that include talking about condoms in school?

    Palin's answer:

No, I don't think that it includes something that is relatively benign. Explicit means explicit. No, I am pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I'm not anti-contraception. But yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don't have a problem with that. That doesn't scare me, so it's something that I would support also.

This kind of "stary-eyed" commenting is why it's taken women so long to advance their careers and be taken seriously. Please excuse me, as I leave to the room to vomit!

You are totally SICK. She is exactly what you started to think of her -- as a lightweight, and wild lunatic.
YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO BROOKLYN AND REGROUND YOUR ROOTS. Plus how in God's earth could you believe in AND support Hilary and what she stands for and her experience and then support this no name, uninformed young Mom -- from a state of which you have nothing in common with?? Did you fall on you head getting out of bed one day ??? P.S. I want none of her Bible talk in the White House !!!!!!!

I disagree with Buffaloboy. Sarah Palin is not afraid to be a person of faith. Most Americans do not believe in evolution (see http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/10/22/opinion/polls/main965223.shtml). So try not to "defend" Sarah by weakening her.

When Americans find out who the man was that Sarah tried to remove from office, they will wonder what is wrong with liberals that they cannot tell right use of power from wrong.

Even Sarah's mis-statements serve the Higher Truth that can never be wrong. The Election ended the day after Obama's speech when Americans saw a man who cannot even decide whether he is a Muslim vs. a true American like Sarah. Game/Set/Match. Sorry, liberals! you will have to pack up your anti-God, pro-homosexuality agenda and retire. (Not really sorry, btw.....

My mother tried ,(and obviously failed), to abort me in 1965. That was before the wonder working power of Roe V Wade. You will understand why I love Sarah Palin! I am all for choice: provided it doesn't end with me ,or any like me: dead.

I am glad that there is now a prolife WOMAN on the ticket. I have read a lot of comments that say that you can't be a "feminist" if you are antichoice -- doesn't that take away from the very essence of feminism, that empowers each one of us? Destroying life does not empower us. I do find that Democrats who cry that pro-choice is the only way also decry the war and the loss of innocent American lives --even though these Americans CHOSE to serve their country whereever they are sent. Isn't that interesting

One thing I'd like to clarify - Palin does NOT advocate teaching Creationism in schools - I heard an interview of her (before being a VP pick) where she said that "maybe it shouldn't be part of the curriculum" (not an exact quote - don't have time to look it up), but it a student brings it up, then it should be a valid point of debate (and I agree with that - no reason to tell a student "shut up, we don't talk about Creationism around here").

She does believe that Creationism is more accurate than Darwinism - a position I disagree with completely. But that is her personal belief, not her political platform.

One thing must be clarified - Palin does NOT advocate teaching Creationism in schools. She has said that "maybe it should not be part of the curriculum" (not an exact quote, but words to that effect) - she has said that if a student raises a question about it, then it's not unreasonable to have a discussion about it in the classroom.

Yes, she thinks Creationism is more accurate then Darwinism - and I strongly disagree with her on that. But she is not, and never has, pushed the teaching of Creationism in the schools.

Msssss. Pit Bull has anything to do with decency.
That is why this dity ticket McWar&Pit Bull will not win against calm Decency.
I hope in Decency of America, that is why I am confident - we would not rush to the Distatorship of Pit Bulls.
    NO WAY
    NO HOW
    NO MCWar
    NO Pit Bull.

Kathleen, I loved the article. I disagree with your politics... but I thought it was honest and real. Sounds like you too are someone who would be worth having a Red Bull with.

I think we too often fail to think of people as people.

how sad to see all of the hateful, acrimonious, slanderous irrational opinions by both "sides" in this very important election year.

people are "twits." "commies," "marxists," "traitors," ad nauseum.

what happened to the "civil" in civilization?
