I am baffled as to why this country can not see that we can't afford 4 more years of the same. It truly makes me ashamed to say I am an American. We are an embarassment to our forefathers...we used to be a beacon of freedom and hope--now we're just another country bordering on our demise.

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 09/09/2008 12:31:49 AM

America is a great country...fantastic country! I'm proud to be an american because the best part of america isthe americans who live here!
Now the DNC don't want you to be proud (nonononono) and has ran an americans Suck first campaign for decades!
OHHHH, the rotten police; Ohhh those military war mongers! Ohh those awefull chritians who caused histories awefull wars....ohhh those gun owners rihgts are such a threat!
Now no doubt you've heard these things come out of the mouth of some whinner sore head...and they are sore because they never heard this crap and said BULL! They bought into it!
I'm not sorry you are ashamed to say you're American, or a Brit or a Frenchman, BUT if you don't say BULL at some point you'll morph into the kind of person who will urinate on the aids quilt IF you can blame it on an American, as part of a discrimination campaign.
Then your discust will be real!

I'm not surprised that our "American Taliban" of Christian Fundamentalists loves her and her right-wing absolutist positions. You wonder if we are becoming like Germany in 1933 already? Heil McCain/Palin!

Garbage. This ''demise''trip would hold as much water if Obama, and not McCain, were elected president. In truth, our ''forefathers''were more an embarassment to us. Blacks as ''half a man''. [Indians ranging between 1/2 and 3/4s]. No sufferage for women. Debtors prisons. routine torture in Bedlam-style asylums. Unchecked robber-baron control of government. ''Know nothings''. ''Anti-Papists''. ''Popery'',Anarchist gunslingers.''The Jews''. ''Trails of Tears''. Violent mob insurrection. Civil War. Suspension of Habeas Corpus. ''Gold Rings'' ''Tweed Rings''. Child labour in servitude. ''The Jungle''.Sole male ownership within -marriage of all property and title.''Gunboat diplomacy''. Vigilantiism. ''Regulators''. The Klan.
We were never ''beacons''of either. Those who came here merely fought harder to get a better break than they ever had in the nations of their origin. It is the abject failure of those to place themselves into the times that they wax poetic about, that cause them to be blinded to the realities of the American past. Make no mistake. Evangelicals believe that it is secular liberals who are bringing about this demise. And vice versa. Thus the discussion of a better America remains in stasis due primarily to ideological ultraism practiced by both sides.

Both the religiouse right and not -religeouse right have been there all along waiting for a ticket they could support. there is no revival or being reborn!
And as before the DNC continues to run it's discrimination campaign against gun owners, Christians, law enforcemeant, military and achievers! It's the Americans Suck First campaign! Which excludes people!
There's no revival. just an enduring conservitive base that the RNC pleases or don't please. which the RNC either excites or fail to excite!
    It's actually very simple!
It's aloso simple to see why Obama is erroding in the polls. It's his VP choise... makeing the Obama ticket far left wing...and an extremely limited market!
And because the DNC has squandered time in the US Congress in deal with important issue like the war and the fuel situation! And it's indefensible! Utterly indefensible!
The right has been here all along! How could anyone be suprized?

Somehow, ignorance is overcoming our country. One of the symptoms of this ignorance is the rapid growth of fundamental evangelism. Our fundamental evangelists decry Islamo-fascism while indulging in Christiano-fascism. We have had a president for eight years who started a war without any identifiable justification and called it a "Crusade". To legitimize it, he caused hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims to be killed in this war. This president used the term "evil" over and over again in justifying this illegitimate war which in itself is an evil war. This same president proudly proclaimed a number of times that he was saved by Jesus Christ and that he was guided in all he did by his religion, including starting the illegitimate war in which hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims have been killed. His term for those dead people is "collateral damage". We are in a sad state as a country. We are declining rapidly into an era that resembles the period in European history which preceded what has been called the "Dark Ages". Don't laugh. In a world in which Christian countries and Muslim countries possess highly explosive nuclear bombs, darkness might not be as remote as you think while you try to continue to elect people who claim to be religious and righteous as qualifying one to wield the power of this country. This is a flaw that the founders spoke about, but we are gradually ignoring their admonition to keep religion out of the governing hand, and keep it in the private family where it belongs. Religion needs to be put back where it belongs. It is too volatile for world peace to survive when it is wrongfully used as justification for unconscionable wrongs against humanity.

This election has turned from one of optimisim to downright depression. I grew up baptist and I believe in the bible, but this insanity has to stop. I never vote religion. I vote issues. I promise the end of the world isn't going to happen, but the end of this country as we know it could happen. Keep voting for the Republican party and it's insane platform and it will happen. That i promise. Meanwhile, James Dobsona and Ralph Reed keep laughing all the way to the bank. Has the electorate actually become this stupid.

Sarah is from Alaska so she is going to be seen doing outdoor stuff. and have pictures that show us she lives that lifestyle. That is a unintelligent comment. That does not make her unqualified or a horrible person. Evangelicals should not be changing from the Word of God to appease the secular world. We are dealing with all these issues in this country because we have taken God out of it so this is what happens. If Sarah was picked by the Democratic ticket than these issues would never arise.

  • Posted By: lalaroddy @ 09/08/2008 11:45:52 AM

that is the problem, Evangelicals are changing but God is the same yesterday, today and forever. What the Word of God states is right is what we need to believe in. Sarah is a hunter in Alaska so the comment about the Gun is really unintelligent. Alaska is a outdoor state so you are going to see her in the outdoor lifestyle. Wow!!! I think it is great that she is the pick. for the VP candidate. We have issues going on and that is because we did take God out everything. We are trying to make him "NOT MATTER" anymore. Well look at ther results and that has nothing to do with Sarah Palin. Truth is, if Sarah was chosen on the Democratic ticket than you would not care what she did in Alaska. I think she is a wonderful Mother and overall person. God will have his way and I want to be on God's team.

The photo of Sarah Palin aiming a gun tells us all we need to know about Sarah Palin.
Who is she pointing the gun at? A moose? A defenseless wolf pup that can???t shoot back? A liberal? An Arab? A Muslim? Perhaps she???s aiming it at a young African-American male who turned down the chance to work for law firms which aid the rich and greedy to work as a community organizer for the poor and needy. .. the list goes on.
But regardless of who what the target is, the photo It gets revs up her followers, including many evangelicals.
mega-church, mega-buck pastors who have endorsed Sarah Palin as if she???s Joan of Arc.
    Why?
Jesus said, ???Blessed are the peace keepers.???
Yet Palin believes the war in Iraq is some sort of ???task of God.??? . Is this what Jesus preached?
In the Garden of Gesthsename, Peter picked up a sword and lobbed off the ear of a soldier who came to take Jesus away. Jesus angrily rebuked Peter and told him to put down his sword. He then healed the soldier???s ear. How does this square with the evangelicals who believe that some how guns and God go together.
I of course am biased. I recently retired after spending a life time teaching in the inner city in south Los Angeles. My school served the students the charter schools did not want to teach. The neighborhood where I worked was called ???the Killing Fields.???
    And for good reason.
Even at 5:30 in the morning, the time I drove to work, I???d pass places cordoned off by yellow tape. I knew what had happened. Way too often, when I signed in at the main office, I???d see a card with a photo of some one who was gunned down the night before: a student, a former student, a teacher???s aide, a close relative of a school secretary. I tried to get to my classroom around 6:30 in the morning because I knew that maybe during the night one a drive-by might have taken place, that perhaps a friend or family member of one of my students might have been killed., and that perhaps some student needed some place to go, like my classroom.
Once our school decided to set up a make-shift memorial to all the people in the school community who had been killed by guns. We asked students to submit names of any one that they wanted to be remembered. We had a wall full of 600 names -
Sarah Palin and the evangelicals babble about being Pro-life yet they adamantly oppose any regulation or rule that would prevent guns from falling into the hands of gang bangers. As as a result, millions of innocent children and teenagers in the inner city risk their lives every time they go to school, church or choir practice.
And nobody cares, except Barack Obama.
    Palin is not a Christian.
The need to ask themselves one question,. How would Jesus vote? Would he vote for guns? Or would he vote for God? treasures guns?

Interesting painting her black, through guilt by association with a church and pastor she doesn't even attend. By the way your real bone of contention is the bible and what Jesus said about all of this.

Thanks to the Palin pick the Karl Rove culture wars are back with a vengeance. Thanks, John. And may God help us all.

Such is life: "One step forward and three steps back". I do believe that organized religion in any denomination known presently is totally out of step with humanity. Look at how many many countries are all living HELL today, presently, now and not even waiting for physical death to overtake them (like is says in the religious training when we die we go to hell. Something is very wrong with Religions and their kind of moral training. Religious leaders have to look to REAL human needs to guide humanity and not the written books of memories of some characters whose experiences are not even close to relevancy today. When we get out of this crap we will probably elect relevant leaders. "One step forward and three steps back". Happens every time in the real cycle of life.

    Memo to Governor Palin:
"Jesus Christ was a comkmunity organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor."

    P.S. Truth squad
I was that quote was original, but not so. I got it from the Mike Mally Show on Air America, on September 4, 2008

I thought this was supposed to be the 20th Century. Are we to repeat the ELMER GANTRY scenario on a regular basis. Sharon Falconer and Ms.Palin are tambourinr banging sisters under the skin. As grade schoolers in the 1940s, we got quite a hoot out of the Scopes Trial. Why not recycle the K.K.K? After all, they were an upstanding bible believing, cross affirming posse of white folk.

Ever since Reagan, God has established a hotline directly to the White House and the American politics it seems. What is more astonishing, the trend in justifying everything in God???s name, oh for example the Iraq war, where Palin apparently asked her congregation to justify it as God???s will and the apparently Bush himself, who was ???inspired??? directly by God. Definitely this is not the impartial, divine, and just God we have been taught but rather a card carrying member of the GOP.

Oh for God???s sake, God has a whole universe to run, just in case you haven???t noticed. In stead of the day to day affairs of justifying the US presence in Afghanistan and Iraq (Eye-rak, as Bush calls it), He has a given us a set of holy books in the form of the Bible, Torah and the Koran, to guide us, along with our consciousness and intellect to guide us. He has also set up a divine tracker device to trace your sins and virtues and hence the Day of Judgment, i.e. punishment is not be given through American missiles right away, but later, where judgments are meant to be eternal. Be inspired to run a war but don???t verbalize God to take your side, will you? God is great no doubt, and our ultimate trust in Him is the belief of our existence, no doubt in that. It says so in our dollar bills, just in case you haven???t noticed when you go to the store for your porn magazine or dope, but the whole concept of the US has its origin in the concept of separation of church and state. Huckabee had proposed an amendment to change that. I suggest we go one step further. Lets stop being hypocrites, always treading the fine line of politics and religion, and make God the official head of state of the great US of A and let the President in the White House be His vicar. Like Henry the Eighth, who broke with Rome because he wanted a divorce and wouldn???t get one, America can and should break from all the religious establishment of the old world (well, there are the Mormons and their president of course), the US should also establish the ???Church of America??? and turn everything it does into a sanctified affair, left, right and centre. God can be on the side of drilling as well that way. After all, its cheap oil we are after and not conservation, right? God has given us Americans the eternal right to burn oil in the behemoths of our cars, devised by us. The fact that as a result, puny little countries full of infidel people forsaken by God and therefore expendable such as the Maldives, Bangladesh, and islands of the South Pacific will be sinking under water for the all the CO2 emissions we put out as the God-given right has to be justified, you see. So, bring on the Church of America I say???..let Washington be the new Jerusalem???..

Most Americans are going to find it harder and harder to support Obama as we move closer to November as they realize his campaign is Americans Suck First! And it is a pitch fork of discrimination campaigns against
Christians, military experts, police leadership, achievers, and fire arms owners.
As they realize the DNC majority in the congress has the worste public approval on record. And that Obama IS a Democrat--not a Rock Star!

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 09/06/2008 9:16:00 PM

      A) Making up "facts" doesn't make them real. You know this, right?

      B) It was the Bush administration who ignored the advise of military experts like Gen. Shinseki who advocate for a stronger force in Iraq from the beginning. Most military decisions in this war were made by Rumsfeld and other civilians in the Department of Defense and NOT by military officers. So this Republican administration has been against military experts, not Obama. Don't forget that it was Bush who broke the army too.

      C) While it is true that this congress has the lowest rates ever recorded, it is also true that 90% of them will be re-elected. Democrats are poised to even increase their number of seats BOTH in the House and the Senate. It goes to show that unhappiness with congress is about "all you people" while for the president is more personal since blame cannot be divided. Bush has had the lowest rating of any president in US history.

"Of the 60 million white evangelicals in this country, 60 percent of them believe the Bible is literally true."

The media needs to be careful about tossing these numbers. When people are asked if the "bible is factual" most people think this means "was Jesus real?" not "Do you think people who work on Sunday should be stoned to death?" Most people in this country identify themselves as evangelical Christians but not because they are practicing Christians (attending church every Sunday) but because that's the religion they grew up in.

A similar statistic was mis-read some years ago. When asked about creation or evolution most people answered that God had a hand in it. This was interpreted as most people believing in creationism; the truth was that while most people accept the theory of evolution they also believe God as a primary cause.
The argument that most people in this country are white Christian and thus Republican Conservatives is a myth the right wing wants to perpetuate.

This is washed and rinsed -over ''Jesus Was A Liberal''garbage. What if the ''hellfire''guys had it right all along? Miller misses important points.[a problem of annoying considerations, since NEWSWEAKS scribblers are in the can for Obama anyway, and having a more multi-dimensional discussion is beyond their capablities].
Obama is being hit on abortion due to his absolutist positions, which went unrefuted by a seemingly reluctant FACTCHECK,which indeed found that Obama voted against abortion protections that would have demanded that children ''born alive'',be kept that way. And not once, but twice,as both state and US senator.
So what we see is the Millers of the world railing at one for of religious activity deemed extremist, and ignoring another secular activity, which is extremist in fact. Inserting snide dismissals of the ''snobbishness''of the older pro-lifers as though they were Thurston Howells with coconut martinis down to the little paper umbrellas, does not change this glaring fact. What Miller desires is that evangelicals conform to HER image. Not that of their Gods, an image she has taken it upon herself to belittle and scorn. ''We have no God but Caesar'' eh Lisa?
