How absoulutely frigtening is it that a Vice Presidential candidate has to be given a crash course in domestic and foreign policy issues because they don't know enough about them? I would suggest that if they don't know about what is concerning the USA or the rest of the world then they are grossly unqualified to be VP...let alone a 72 year old heartbeat from the Presidency! The matter is made more frightening by the fact that the team "preparing" her for the national spotlight are all former Bush/Rove people. Does anyone recall the 935 lies during the run up to the Iraq war? What do you suppose Palin represents to John McCain.....rhetorical question....votes!!!! He met her ONCE, briefly, before offering her the job. Do you think that reflects his regard for the well being of his country or do you think he might be looking out for the well being of his wife's fortune and their 7 houses? Both are CLEARLY more Bush, more lobbyists, more perks for the rich, more war, and more poverty for the rest of us! If the American people can't recognize that they are, once again, being royally fleeced by the Republican party, then they deserve what McCain/Palin will do to them, those they love, and the country they love!!!!

If a month ago you were asked if a 2 term mayor of a tiny hamlet - and governor of the 3rd smallest state in the country for 20 months - was qualified to be President of the United States - the opinion of 99% of the electorate would have been NO WAY! What has changed? This is a politican who speaks well - but is afraid to answer any questions about her understanding of foreign policy, the economy, etc... Why? Because she hasn't been told what to say yet by her handlers. This is an insult to Condi Rice, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, and the hundereds of better qualified candidates. Ask yourself this - do you really want Sarah Palin - with all her inexpierienece and total lack of foreign policy - a 73 year old heartbeat away from the Oval Office? Good grief - NO WAY!

Year 2012 under an Obama Presidency.

He succeeded in raising capital gains taxes to 28% but he noticed the TAXES coming in fell by 30% as the rich shifted their investments offshore and into non capital gains investments such as CD's.

He succeeded in raising the top tax rate to 39% but taxes collected actually dropped 45% as many business owners setup offshore companies and paid NO taxes.

Because of his EXPENSIVE health insurance plans companies had to let millions of workers go because they couldn't afford the $11,000 per employee per year! America became like Europe and like Europe now has a 10.5% unemployment rate.

Because companies raised their prices to cover the huge tax increase inflation skyrocketed and is now over 7% per year. THis caused the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates 3% and now the average home owner with $200,000 mortgage pays $300 to $500 per month MORE in payments. Their car payments are also $50 to $150/mo higher.

The New York Times reports "Throw the bum Obama out as one regularly sees thousands of cars stranded at the side of the road due to record HIGH $7 per gallon gas prices. It appears that Obama's pipe dream of energy independence NEVER WORKED out and the price of oil due to NOT drilling skyrocketed."

There is the future. Obama is RIGHT about one thing, he will bring CHANGE. Just not the kind of change you dummys thought he would. Why? Because you are IDIOTS and can't think beyond today and the EFFECTS of his policies LONG TERM.

We don't have to imagine what it looks like under a Republican administration. We are living it!
However, with Palin and McCain, you can add young women dieing from botched abortions, and others dieing in future wars. Our dollar will be worth less than the baht.

      • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/09/2008 3:11:27 PM

Under Bush real incomes after inflation WENT UP 9.6%. Obama is lying to you dummy! If you take off the MILLIONS of illegal immigrants from income statistics then we ARE BETTER OFF AFTER BUSH!

Bush isn't to blame for people buying houses they couldn't afford!
Bush isn't to blame for people taking home equity loans each year and now losing their homes because they were sooooooooooooo STUPID!
Bush isn't to blame for a guy like you who was so dumb in high school he didn't study and flunked out, never went to college and doesn't have health insurance!

I made $330,000 last year and will make $550,000 this year under Bush's PRO BUSINESS government.
It's EASY to become rich in this country NOW and I'll fight to KEEP IT a success driven country, not a loser dominated country with huge welfare programs (free health insurance).

Go Bush - I don't want 8 more years of Bush policies I want 500 MORE YEARS of Bush policies!

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/10/2008 6:27:55 PM

Overall Bush has been an arrogant, rigid, hostile, partisan, aloof, predjudiced, incompetent, disengaged, uniterested, terrible president. McCain has the good sense not to defend him. In the end, promoting Bush will end up promoting Obama.

        • Posted By: mccaincursingonyoutube @ 09/09/2008 3:30:15 PM

Good for you. I understand why you are fighting for what you believe in. It would be a huge mistake for you to vote for Obama! You are the top 5 percent that should never vote for Obama. I get it. Can you, however, tell me why a single mother in Ohio who just lost her job and has to move back into her parents home because jobs are being shipped overseas?

          • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/09/2008 3:55:41 PM

Yes I will tell you. Because Obama's cap and trade plan will raise the COST of doing business in the US so high that MORE jobs will be shipped overseas.

His taxes on businesses will get passed along to YOU in higher prices. This inflation can only be fixed by raising interest rates which will cost you $200 to $500/mo more on your mortgage or your NEXT mortgage. Same for your car it will cost you $50 to $150mo more.

Oil - Yes drilling isn't long term solution but it will lower prices as they are set in the oil futures market and supply and demand and PERCEIVED increases in supply will lower it. Obama's plan doesn't address this and gas prices will be $0.50 to $1.50+ higher under Obama's plan. For most people this is a $30 to $100 per WEEK extra expense!

Iraq War - Moot point as we are winning it and troop levels are already being reduced. The surge worked and I wish Mc Cain would talk more about his economic policies and not the war because its his economic policies that are the BEST.

Free trade causes lower prices for consumers. Instead of paying $3,000 for your 35 inch flat panel tv the cost is less than $1,000 at Walmart. This is best for the economy at large. Some manufacturing jobs are lost FOREVER and people need retrained. This is just the way the world economies work, NOTHING to do with Bush.

Obama lies about taxes to oil companies - Exxon paid $10 BILLION $500 MILLION last 3 months in taxes. That's huge! There were no huge oil tax breaks!

Lastly what happens when you tax the rich more? Guess what, we're smart and will move our money and jobs OFFSHORE. Is this what you want, REDUCED taxes collected by government and FEWER jobs?

Thats what you'll get under Obama. Don't believe his lies.

For being the FIRST Democrat on here who asked a legitimate question and wanting to talk about the REAL issues I give you credit!

            • Posted By: mccaincursingonyoutube @ 09/09/2008 4:26:25 PM

I an Independent. I don't disagree with most of what you stated and like some of it. I must admit that I am clueless about what is going on about our gas prices. It is impossible for it to be supply and demand. What I have come up with is speculators manipulating the market. Am I off target? No one has proven that drilling will significally reduce gas prices. Do you believe it will?

              • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/09/2008 5:07:13 PM

Yes speculators are driving up the prices of oil and other energy contracts. As a trader and business person I have traded oil many times both buying and hoping prices go up and also near the top shorting and hoping they'd fall.

Having an energy policy that includes DRILLING is key. We also need to let traders know we are focused on ALTERNATIVE energy too. If we can improve battery life for electric cars that will GREATLY reduce our need for oil and prices would fall dramatically.

Oil futures are what cause oil prices and while it is mainly supply and demand it also is heavily dependent on FUTURE predictions of supply/demand.

Ever since Bush released the executive ban on offshore drilling oil prices fell!
That's not something any Democratic leader will tell you or probably even GRASP
themselves! Now imagine we open up ANWR and other offshore drilling. If another
10% supply is US based and we don't have to import it not only does oil futures fall
but also US MONEY IS KEPT IN AMERICA vs going to Arab and Foreign regimes that HATE US.

I agree with Mc Cain that oil and drilling is a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE!

Also as oil goes up the US Dollar falls. Having better energy policy helps strengthen the US Dollar.

All I know if Obama's energy and tax policy is 100% TOTALLY WRONG for America. He wants to turn us into Europe with unemployment that will be from 9% to 14% at the worse and 8% at the best. Now many wouldn't mind that UNLESS IT WAS THEIR JOB THAT WAS LOST!!!

      • Posted By: blackcourt @ 09/09/2008 3:23:50 PM

Young women dying because of botched abortions? Under the future you are imagining... where abortion is illegal... anyone performing such functions would be jailed. Lowering the numbers across the boards. If they still wanted to go have this done it isn't any different then vast number of youth who die overdosing on drugs and other illegal activities that occur in this country. But you know what would happen... the numbers of babies born would increase... due to the vast majority of young women not opting to do things illegally and the morality of this country might start to take a swing in the right direction. You can preach all you want to but Obama is going to hurt his country. He is weak and using the same campaign that John Kerry used. He doesn't have any ideas of his own he is merely telling everyone that if you don't like Bush vote for me. Well guess what... he isn't running against Bush... at least Kerry had sense enough to know who he was running against.

This is for blackcourt. You logic is really really not well informed at all. First the government or a christian or any religious denomination doesn't have the right to tell me what to do with my body or any woman's body. that is between her and her God not her and the Gop. It is typical of you republicans to impose the Salem witch trial in today society. The first thing you want to do is put them all in jail. Because the made a choice with their body. If a person is raped, sexually molested etc.... She has a right to make whatever decision she want to with out the all mighty GOP trying to play GOD. You people claim to be so god fearing of people but forget the basic that should not trough stones when you live in a glass house. All of the children that were not wanted and it is illegal to have and abortion what are you going to do adopt me have a nation of lost children is what you people will allow to happen. get a grip and see the real world and stop trying to impose your believes on others. I am a christian woman believe in my God not that illusion called the Gop

Osama bin Laden, the head of Al Qaeda, did, and he is still alive. Support your responce with facts and I will repect you.

I really could care less about the war. Why?

Because it is winding down, WE WON and won because of people like Mc Cain and Bush who did the right thing. In the LONG RUN, something a dumb democrat wouldn't ever do, a Democracy in the middle east is a GOOD thing.

Most people care about the economy and their jobs. Don't SIDESTEP the economic issue just because your moron Obama is wrong about higher taxes and bigger government. The Iraq war will be over before the next 4 years, not a very long time, probably 1.5 to 3 years. Lets focus on REAL ISSUES!

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/10/2008 6:18:25 PM

His "true colors" (figure of speech, kind of like pig lipstick) is that he campaigned as the poitician of hope, change, and unity. Since June, he his campain has been scripted and sensationalistic. He passed Hillary over for the VP slot and went with a boring washington insider. Now he's attacking Palin.
Since you wanted to bring up race, my concerns with Obama have to do with his lack of experience, and his unwillingness to do more debates with Hillary and town hall meetings with McCain. I would have liked to have gotten to know him better. Nothing to do with race, but the implication has been so overused and inappropriate that it is exhausting to respond to it.

If you watched the video you posted the link to, you would've realized Palin never banned any books, or even asked about any specific titles of books that she might have possibly wanted to ban. In fact, the report said there were no facts to support this story.

She is not a book banner, as no books were ever banned. Get your facts straight...

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 09/10/2008 4:31:06 PM

McCain chose symbolism over substane - tokenism at it's worst. It is 2008, and a man running for president has chosen his running mate based on one qualification: she has a uterus, and uses it. How insulting.

If he really wanted a republican female politician with substance that was lock step with typical republican values, he would have chosen someone like Elizabeth Dole - after all, who better to answer the phone at 3 am than the former head of the Red Cross?

He didn't pick someone with substance because he needed the gesture, the caricature - and he needed the sizzle. By surrounding himself with beauty queens (the new one certainly takes the focus off Cindy, doesn't she?) he gets the sex appeal and also gets to avoid the issues. (Don't think there aren't more than a few neanderthals elbowing each other in the locker room, snickering about how the 'old man' still has it.)

So here we are - breasts wrapped up in the American flag, with a shot gun over her shoulder (has she aimed it her future son-in-law?). And too many people falling for the symbols with no understanding and less interest in the substance.

This article asked the question what does she believe but after reading it I still don't know what she thinks about the economy, jobs, medicare reform, gas prices, the Russians, the Chinese, or Afghanistan.

My fear is that she doesn't know, either.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/10/2008 6:02:25 PM

Elizabeth Dole is also 72 years old. That would have created enormous problems

Barry. I am so glad you called that pig a pig. Ugh....I hate her. She is so inexperienced. She probably does not know the Ivy League exists. She probably has never been to the Haptoms, or the Berkshires, or Fire Island. She probably has never set foot on Central Park West or Harvard Square. How can she know anything about the world? She probably thinks Yale is an insurance company, that Dartmouth is a kind of bass and that Cornell is some kind of wart women get on their feet. She probably thinks a liberal arts college is where liberals send their kids to learn photography. Has she even heard of of Williams and Amherst? And she calls herself a hockey mom. She looks nothing like the hockey moms at Horace Mann and Fieldston. Ugh.

We had so called "experience" with Bush and look where we are at. This time, I want change - Obama is the one to bring it about. He is not elitist, as he has been portrayed. He is not "black" - his mother was white. He is human. He is a good leader, with the qualities this country needs. He made a smart decision, not a political one, when he chose Biden. Unlike McCain, who made an outright political move, not what was best for our country, in choosing Palin. Talk about elitist - McCain's daughter on the Today Show says "nobody knows war like our family." This is what she was tought. About Palin, who wants to teach abstinence in schools - how successful was that in your family? And Palin who has stood before America on her first day and lied. That's someone with experience - experience in the good ole boys network. This country cannot tolerate or survive any more of this. I see the polls and fellow women, I say to you, don't vote just for a woman. Education yourself. Pay attention. Listen. This is the most important role and election for our country. Don't make a mistake based on getting a woman into leadership (I am a woman). Make a vote that counts to bring about change in our country. Obama has mine. Not some sharp shooter who props her dead prey on her desk and flaunts it, a woman who believes that God is pushing us behind the Iraq war, a woman who wants to change the rules of this country - if you are raped or suffer incest and get pregnant, you must suffer through the consequences of someone else's actions and give birth, then deal with the consequences of that child (as if we don't have enough tragic endings already). Yes - she wants to make that decision for you in the most dire of circumstances. A woman who doesn't want to teach children sex education in schools, but abstinence - I was adopted 40 years ago - this is an age-long problem that Sarah Palin thinks she can solve in our country, but couldn't solve in her home. Pay attention, make your vote count.

  • Posted By: sgermanio@comcast.net @ 09/10/2008 2:18:53 PM

I read "Apostle of Alaska," so I would be more informed and to confirm that Sarah Palin is not what out country needs in a time of crisis that would be exacerbated by another Repbulican team in Washington. While she represents the white conservative majority who are probably unable to accept our current circmstance and bring themselves to vote for an African-American with Washington experience and a very responsible, experienced running mate, she also represents a part of a ticket that will bring the remnants of the middle class to an end. The R's have backed voters into a corner from which we will not escape without honest self scrutiny and valid assessment of the goals we wish to achieve for ourselves, our families and our country. The Apostle is part of a game we don't have the time to play.

Serg, were you aware that George Bush has been in office for 71/2 years, and for the first six years the ecomony was fine----THEN, Anericans decided they wanted CHANGE, so, in 2006, they voted in a Democratic congress, and we got CHANGE, alright! Consumer confidence has plummeted, Gas prices doubled, unemployment rose to a 10% increase, Americans have seen their home equity drop by 12 TRILLION DOLLARS, and still dropping. Many American homes are in foreclosure, and THE DOW is dropping faster than an an egg tossed from the Empire State Building, so how long do you think it will be before the stock market completely crashes? But, according to you dimwit dems, whose symbol is very appropriate, all this is the fault of President Bush. Take another look, sweethearts, and you'll see whose fault it REALLY is, but, of course, you'll never acknowledge it. VOTE FOR COMMON SENSE CHANGE!! McCain/ Palin!!!

  • Posted By: josemarti @ 09/10/2008 4:59:46 PM

I repeat. I repeat. Obama has this thing locked up. If he gets 90% of the African American vote, 65% of the Hispanic vote. 60% of the Jewish vote, then he will need less than 40% of the white women vote. We are looking at a landslide.

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/10/2008 4:50:24 PM

Once again America is caught up in a tight Presidential race and with a whole lot of emotion being placed on the questions who is the most experienced, who has demonstrated a real understanding of Iraq, who has the best plan for fighting terrorism, who comprehends and can best resolve Global Warming, energy costs, dependence on foreign oil, rising unemployment, growing inflation, rising cost of living, runaway medical costs, humongous deficit, growing trade deficit, lost jobs, lost revenue, declining family values, who is the most intelligent, who is the best looking, who is the most likable,,, and not to forget the subdued racial issue. Is there any one issue that could make all of those issues subordinate and that then could be considered above the rest? I think so and that is simply honesty. What each candidate offers on each of those issues is important but when discerning who to vote for, if we can???t trust their answers, if they practice a policy of deceit, if they literally use a strategy of boldly, arrogantly and continually lying without hesitation or conscience, as if that is their privilege, then their answers are meaningless and all we can expect from them is more lies. Now both candidates and their supporters will say it is the other doing that but is there any real and consistent evidence that one side is literally being aggressively dishonest? I think there is irrefutable evidence that is the case. As I see it, it has been a consistent Republican strategy, a Karl Rove like tactic, to say whatever they want loudly, boldly, often and have others repeat it so that some will accept it; if they get cornered, then they just arrogantly, boldly and dishonestly say something else the same way and move on. It can be denied but it is what we have constantly witnessed with most everything from the Bush Administration over the last eight years. Even Scott McClellan in his book WHAT HAPPENED told us that President Bush consistently practiced self-deceit (Scott???s words) and it would be really hard to find anything that they haven???t lied about, either to justify or rationalize or excuse or to hide or even to attack their opponent. Senator McCain also does it but isn???t quite as bold as Gov Palin who is right up to the task and could give Bush a run for his money. There is so much that is coming out now that shows she has no hesitation or restricting conscience to stop her from saying anything. Like Bush, she is bold, arrogant, feisty and dishonest, as she herself says, ???a pit bull with lipstick??? but also extreme and even bazaar in her beliefs and actions. I could provide a long list but it would go on for some length and anyway it is all there to be seen by anyone who wants to be rational and objectively look and those who don???t, they will just use the Rove tactic to rationalize that Obama is worse. Hopefully this time around there will be enough voters concerned for the truth and we will then get it right in November.

Be careful people. There are several people who make comments here, who can easily be identified by their persistence, their dishonesty, their strong bias and their extreme statements, who simply have connection, being volunteer/staff, with the Republicans and are assigned to do what they are doing. It is consistent with everything else the Republicans are doing to deceive the public. The garbage they persistently put out and refer people to should further identify them and should be understood as attempts to mislead and manipulate. It is simply as with everything else, they do it with boldness and without any conscience. Just because things are offered on the internet doesn???t make them true; we need to be careful what and who we trust and to be logical, even cynical and rational and objective ourselves. It is important to get it right this time!

Lets discuss WHY the Democrats hate America so much?
Why are they always apologizing for America?

I tend to think its like the theory of penis envy, except its MONEY ENVY.

They tend to THINK of themselves as INTELLIGENT beings but when they see somebody else with more money, much nicer house, much nicer car, much HOTTER wife, they are SOOOO ENVIOUS!

So they instead of blaming themselves or questioning THEIR OWN INTELLIGENCE call us names, tell us we're GREEDY because the 50% we pay now to state, local and federal taxes IS NOT ENOUGH, we are GREEDY for wanting to provide a GREAT life for our kids and to give OUR HARD EARNED MONEY to our children vs some crack mommas from the inner city.

Sorry Democrats, your Obama is too dumb to win this election. Not picking Hillary cost him 20 to 30% of her voters and Palin sealed the deal for Mc Cain. Biden was the WORST VP choice in American politics and his dumb ass keeps saying stupid things EVERY DAY! God Bless that moron Biden!

While I agree with your last paragraph, I can't understand why you categorize Democrats in such a negative and unfair manner. Almost all democrats love America, and are intelligent, hard working, urban or rural,God loving, reasonable, compassionate people. Yes a small fringe of Democrats are as you describe, just as a small fringe of Republicans are judgemental hypocritical racist bigots.
Your reasonable comments would be more credible if they weren't accompanied by ridiculous and false generalizations about democrats

I have NEVER been racist but Obama is turning me into one. I am PRAYING that others don't vote for him BECAUSE he is black. That's how much I hate his policies and how strongly I feel he will destroy America.

How anybody can think he is the answer blows me away. I can't fathom how a person can look at THEIR life and blame OTHERS for how it turned out! Blame yourselves, not Congress, Bush, your Boss, etc.

THEN maybe you can focus your energy on the real culprit on why your life sucks, YOU!

You've made MANY dumb decisions in your life, not studying enough, partying and drinking/drugs too much. Too much sex or unprotected sex and you have two kids by two fathers and are single and thus THAT decision ruined your freedom and LIMITED you on your options.

It's a real shame that Obama is DOING CLASS WARFARE!

I have NO PROBLEM paying more taxes if EVERYBODY else's increases at the same percentage!

That's what isn't fair. For those of us paying $100k+ in taxes each year while others pay $2k to $3k in taxes and THEY want US to pay even more while they get tax breaks is bullshit!

In a perfect world I'd rather there be MORE political parties as none fit my beliefs.

        Pro Choice
No problem with the legalization of pot even though I don't use it myself
        Small Government
        Strong Military
Low taxes and FLAT taxes or consumption taxes instead which encourages people to save.
Diplomacy around the world first before wars but on the other hand somebody who is strong and won't let diplomacy PREVENT them from going to war if necessary (one of Obama's weaknesses).
Somebody who wants to overhaul the education system and get rid of the beaucracies in it. I believe school choice may not be the best plan but its 100x better than the crap road Democrats want to continue to lead us down. Our kids are stupid and getting dumber and dumber every generation.

I think that Obama better fits your series of values better than McCain, except in the small government department, though very few of the Republicans in power, like the Democrats, actually fight for smaller government in practice anymore.

Maybe BUT I want lower taxes. I paid $107,000 in taxes last year and will owe about $150,000 this year.
Thats MORE than my fair share!

Under Obama I would have paid $150,000 last year and maybe $220,000 this year!

I'll live with the Republicans Christian RIGHT social policies IF it means lower taxes! I'd live with all their other BULLSHIT too if it means LOWER TAXES!

I hate welfare programs and Obama's health insurance welfare policies and further INCREASES in social security taxes are also BS. As a business owner I have to pay 12% social security taxes now but only up to first $102k of income. He wants to raise this to who knows what! That's a 12% tax HIKE to me right off the bat and not a PENNY I will see for MY retirement.

Obama and his supporters are scum bags, no way else to sugar coat it!

I've been a loyal democrat for 25 years but my guess is not only me, but a majority of Americans would love to have a moderate political party as an option. Your third party idea is a good one

God loving?? No one who supports abortion or as democrats call it "pro-choice".

"Saying there are too many children in this world,, is like saying there are too many flowers" Mother Theresa

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/10/2008 2:11:42 PM

That is an oversimplification. Many democrats distinguish their political from personal views.

          • Posted By: jmd8888 @ 09/10/2008 2:16:29 PM

Exactly, that is their problem. No real values.

            • Posted By: rlnorton46 @ 09/10/2008 4:09:12 PM

Your values may not be my values, and you want bigger government to regulate that. No there's a reflection of your values.

One can be pro-family and life without believing the goverment should legislate our bedrooms and uteruses

Can anyone confirm a rumor that is spreading that the ghost of Bella Abzug appeared last night at a seance on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, I understand that she suddenly appeared, asked for a pastrami sandwhich and started on a harangue about how the women's movement has come too far to see that "pig with lipstick" elected Vice President. When asked what Hell was like, she said that it was just like Sartre had portrayed in his play No Exit and that she was sharing a small apartment with Rock Hudson and Mickey Mantle. She was later seen heading for Zaabar on Broadway. Can anybody confirm this?

Senator Obama tried to bring more focus to his campaing today by revisiting the issue of bitter rural voters "clinging to their Bibles". He said: " I understand why these voters are bitter. I also understand why they cling to their Bibles. Karl Marx, that great political philosopher, said that Religion is the opium of the people. I just wish more voters would be willing to try the real thing rather than clinging to religion. Why don't you try some heroin. Maybe you got some Vicodin or Tylenol with codeine laying around. Let me know how you like it. I'd be sure to include them in my government sponsored formulary."
