Gov Palin prides herself in being the ???pit bull with lipstick??? and now she and Senator McCain want to take credit for her being a ???pig with lipstick???, which of course is their privilege. If Senator Obama wanted to insult her I doubt it would be that veiled and subtle or unimportant as there is so much he could address with real meaning. Obama-Biden are literally focused on the issues, on what is important to the people, while McCain-Palin instead have emphatically stated they want it to be about personalities. Now why would they do that when all you have to do is look and see that the country desperately needs and wants change? Maybe because when you take away the camouflage on what McCain-Palin offer, all you find is more of the same. Maybe they have no choice because who they are loyal, indebted and committed to are those that want to continue with more of the same. The Republicans just want to make issues out of the meaningless and totally forget about the meaning in the issues. They could be called the party of one-liners, cute but empty.

Bad point. Obama is too busy talking about pigs and lipstick instead of talking about real issues.

Once again America is caught up in a tight Presidential race and with a whole lot of emotion being placed on the questions who is the most experienced, who has demonstrated a real understanding of Iraq, who has the best plan for fighting terrorism, who comprehends and can best resolve Global Warming, energy costs, dependence on foreign oil, rising unemployment, growing inflation, rising cost of living, runaway medical costs, humongous deficit, growing trade deficit, lost jobs, lost revenue, declining family values, who is the most intelligent, who is the best looking, who is the most likable,,, and not to forget the subdued racial issue. Is there any one issue that could make all of those issues subordinate and that then could be considered above the rest? I think so and that is simply honesty. What each candidate offers on each of those issues is important but when discerning who to vote for, if we can???t trust their answers, if they practice a policy of deceit, if they literally use a strategy of boldly, arrogantly and continually lying without hesitation or conscience, as if that is their privilege, then their answers are meaningless and all we can expect from them is more lies. Now both candidates and their supporters will say it is the other doing that but is there any real and consistent evidence that one side is literally being aggressively dishonest? I think there is irrefutable evidence that is the case. As I see it, it has been a consistent Republican strategy, a Karl Rove like tactic, to say whatever they want loudly, boldly, often and have others repeat it so that some will accept it; if they get cornered, then they just arrogantly, boldly and dishonestly say something else the same way and move on. It can be denied but it is what we have constantly witnessed with most everything from the Bush Administration over the last eight years. Even Scott McClellan in his book WHAT HAPPENED told us that President Bush consistently practiced self-deceit (Scott???s words) and it would be really hard to find anything that they haven???t lied about, either to justify or rationalize or excuse or to hide or even to attack their opponent. Senator McCain also does it but isn???t quite as bold as Gov Palin who is right up to the task and could give Bush a run for his money. There is so much that is coming out now that shows she has no hesitation or restricting conscience to stop her from saying anything. Like Bush, she is bold, arrogant, feisty and dishonest, as she herself says, ???a pit bull with lipstick??? but also extreme and even bazaar in her beliefs and actions. I could provide a long list but it would go on for some length and anyway it is all there to be seen by anyone who wants to be rational and objectively look and those who don???t, they will just use the Rove tactic to rationalize that Obama is worse. Hopefully this time around there will be enough voters concerned for the truth and we will then get it right in November.

I like Sarah Palin, I think she is smart and capable. Much as the Republicans would like to paint her brood as a pro-life issue, I see it more of a contemporary issue of a woman trying to have it all, something that men have been doing for ages. And she is ambitious. But I would never vote for McCain because of her. She is extreme in her policies and anti-women's choice. As a woman, I would never vote for her. The Democrshould go after her on issues not on

Sarah Palin is so hungry for the limelight that she has thrown her Down Syndrone child, and her pregnant teenager to the care of her husband; who probably feels overwhelmed by the prospect, If not he soon will be.
Carl Rove's handiwork is clearly seen in John Mcains struggle for the presidency, and we the people need to take a close look into what he and Obama are offering for our future. Mcain has not offeref us nothing tangible, nothing that will help us keep our homes, pay for hospitalization for our grown child whose job does not afford him health insurance, and so much more. People lets not be bambozzeled by an white head old man feeling his cheerios having a young attractive woman by his side. mccain will toss her aside if he wins, and she will become his gofer.

Enter YoBarack Obama said in an interview in 2004 after he won the senate seat that he will not run for president because he believes in "knowing what you are doing when applying for a job and if I were to consider running on a national ticket I would have to start now before having served a day in the senate, some people might be comfortable doing that but I'm not one of those people. (Nov. 2004)" -- Interview on CNN
I guess he believes his own hype.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported today in a dramatic increase in Clinging to Bibles and Guns Syndrome (CBGS). This progressive neurological disorder typically leads to a terminal stage of conservatism. It may be related to Mad Cow Disease. Senator Obama again expressed his concern today: " I don't know what causes CBGS. But we have to do something to prevent its spread. I urge all Americans to remove their Bibles and guns immediately."

and Ayres said last week that in regards to the Pentagon bombing he regretted
    that he didn't do MORE?
    =============
Ayers, like the student of the 1960's protest movement, was not directing his anger at us citizens, but the government he felt was violating people's ciliv liberties. Yeah he may have espoused crazy ideals at odds with us Americans, but he is HUMAN being. He is no terrorist, only a terrorist in the eyes of the government. Every citizen has the right to resist the goverynment ... down with patriotism! But hey, I disagreed with the idea that you should resort to violence to get attention and fulfill your objectives, as Ayers did, and that I amsure was a mistake he recognizes.
Whatever the issue with Ayers, please stop trying to associate Obama with the 1960's or with Ayers' views. If you do, then all social onservatives/religious junkies will be known as Pat Robinsons.

You do know that a few people died as a result of this Weather underground revolt, no? These are not people that a future President of the US should have ever been hanging out with, Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn. What really is of concern, it has not just been Ayers as to his circle of friends that is worrisome:

      * RASHID KHALIDI (former PLO terrorist): http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/04/obama-bomber-ayers-partied-with-former.html

      * FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS (infamous pro-Soviet Communist Party member who was a mentor to Obama in his earlier days - from age 9 or 10 to 18 yrs old - until he left to go off to college). Davis sent Obama off to college and later Barack would admit that he attended socialist conferences and picked Marxist professors as his friends. http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2008/09/obamas-communist-mentor-frank-marshall.html

      * BILL AYERS (Washington unapologetic terrorist): Colleague and friend of Barack and Michelle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV_h-XwchkY

      * BERNADINE DORHN (Washington unapologetic terrorist): Friend and colleague of Michelle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxRi4gfupi8

      * LOUIS FARRAKHAN (radical Islam, Racist): Obamas church honored this guy with an award; he also endorsed Obama (albeit he denounced him).

      * MRS. LOUIS FARRAKHAN and Michelle are friends and each serve on the Board for the Rainbow Coalition / PUSH.

      • Posted By: Pupster @ 09/09/2008 11:31:03 PM

Seriously? Obama doesn't even know or like most of the people on that list. It's like making a list for John McCain and adding his Vietnamese captors because he *hung out* with them for 5 years.

It's sad that you have to resort to these sorts of lies to get negative traction. You can't win on the issues (I mean, who can defend the last 8 years?) so instead you just make up a bunch of stuff and peddle it to the unwary. Really, you should be ashamed.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/10/2008 12:24:55 AM

This list of his circle of friends I did not just pick out of know where. The only one he does not know is THE HAMAS (I just threw that in cuz what does it say about Obama if he has this terrorist group endorsing him) and maybe Farrakhan (although if his wife and Mrs. Farrakhan knew each other there is a good chance he has at least met the guy, who, BTW, endorsed him also). The rest of the names he didnt just meet on a one time event. These are people that he knew and chose to associate with for years with on a political and personal basis. Just so you know. Belittling me about what are actually facts is not going to work with me. I have read all about the Saul Alinsky tactics that Obama learned way back when he was a community organizer. These are FACTS and nothing you say will make those facts about this man go away: He is a people manipulator, will associate in many levels with many disreputable people all for the sake of getting what he needs to gain power in his efforts over the years to get to where he ultimately wants to be with that being the White House. THAT is the reality.

          • Posted By: Pupster @ 09/10/2008 1:39:29 AM

That's exactly my point. To list for example Kwame Kirkpatrick is ridiculous. They have no relation at all. Like I said, you can make a more convincing argument for McCain and his captors because at least they saw each other every day for 5 years.

You don't do yourself any favors by presenting such a ludicrous argument. Why don't you stick to the issues and policies. Believe me, if it's guilt by association you're after, McCain has some doozies. After all, he's lived so much longer and partied so much harder. Meaghan McCain was on TV this morning bragging about her dad's stripper girlfriend. Crazy.

Obama and Kilpatrick are definitely friends and colleagues. . . move around within the same circle of friends in Illinois. There is an ad that is being aired on cable news channels in hotly contested Macomb County. It shows Obama praising fellow Democrat Kilpatrick before a May 2007 speech in Detroit.
That was months before the text-messaging scandal that eventually led to 10 felony charges against Kilpatrick and his agreement to step down as mayor in a plea bargain. It be the same video that I posted above next to his name where he does call him his good friend and colleague. They definitely know each other and are on a friendly basis. It is not just this one guy. . . it is the pattern of many unreputable characters he chooses to associate with as friends, etc.

One is judged by the company they keep.
Birds of a feather flock together.

A group that funds GOP candidates' campaigns is running the ad.

Karl Rove's Electoral Map Favors Obama as Discussed on Fox news Sunday Morning (260)
    -----------------------------
Looking at Karl Rove's electoral map which was done by polling in all the states, Obama currently has (260 Electoral Votes) based on states that are solidly in the democratic column. You need 270 to be president.

The biggest changes since 2004 so far is that Obama now leads by double digits in two states that Bush won solidly in 2004. Those two states are New Mexico and Iowa which combined is an additional 12 points for the democrats and minus 12 for the republicans. Obama only needs 10 electorial votes out of the remaing 7 battle ground states which combined is 57 electoral votes.

looking at the electoral map, I would put most of my resources in Ohio, Virginia and Colorado if I were Obama. I say Colorado because if Obama some how lost both Ohio and Virginia, Colorado combined with any one of the remaining states would put Obama over 270. We all know Nevada is leaning democratic so Colorado and Nevada would do it. Colorado has to be in that state "combination mix" if Obama loses Ohio and Virginia because Colorado has 9 electoral votes. (just looking at the worst case scenario) If Obama wins either Ohio or Virginia, it would put Obama over 270. There are other combinations of Obama winning but it would require him to win alot more states which may be difficult to do. But because of Obama picked up Iowa and New Mexico, it has allowed him to be able to win the presidency without Ohio and Florida.

Keep in mind in most polls Virginia is tied. The state hasnt been this close in turning blue since the 1960s. Its a state in which the black vote could put Obama over the top in Virginia which would then give Obama the presidency.

with less than two month til the election we can now get a clearer sense who is likely to win. I tell people dont focus so much on national polls. Both the campaigns are focusing on the electoral map and where they are up in each state. The map favors Obama which is why McCain made such a bold move by picking Sarah Palin to energize the republican base. But I think its too little to late. Obama has a strong foundation laid in these battleground states and he has a good chance in taking Ohio. John Kerry loss Ohio in 2004 by 200,000 votes. If John Kerry had won Ohio, hed be president now. The Obama campaign has registered almost a million new voters in Ohio while republican voter registration has declined in the state. Do the math. Kerry lost by 200,000 votes and Obama has gain almost a million voters through a kind of aggressive voter registration campaign which won him his seat in the US Senate. But even though Colorado, Nevada and North Dakota are toss up states in the margin of error, all three are slightly leaning towards Obama. So this is a good sign for the Obama campaign.

    • Posted By: Pupster @ 09/10/2008 1:35:03 AM

Omaar, excellent analysis. The ground game is definitely the key, and in this Obama has a huge, overwhelming advantage. This week has shown some flipflop in the national polls, but Plouffe isn't worried; he knew all along.

Keep in mind that the polling this year is flawed as shown in the primaries. The voter registration numbers for Dems is huge. 143,000 new Dems in NC alone. Many in the base aren't noted in polls because they use historical demos to gather their info. Also, most under 35 don't have a landline so no polling them.

The Repubs have no idea at the level of voter disenchantment with the Repubs. Bush is an albatross holding them down. And the economy is getting worse. The Repub focus on culture issues like abortion and guns show that they don't get it. Voters are thinking more with their pocketbooks this year.

    To Holy Roller,
My point was simply this: When we speak of compassion in the name of JESUS, we speak of IT as compassion of ALL beings, not jsut a select number of people who adhere to a particular ideology/faith. As a Christian, I feel Jesus' message is being badly distorted by you, HolyRoller. Stop professing to know all. you cannot exclude, you cannot discern... I mean, there are some crazy people in the world interpreting Jesus' message as they see fit, so those people you might call non-Cjrostoams? Well, tell me why you don't want to vote for Obama, then, if you have plenty compassion for all? There is, by the way, NO wolf in sheep's clothing when compassion is cocnerned. Got it?

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/10/2008 12:55:24 AM

Iron Horse, we can be as compassionate as a group of monks about the whole world, but that doesn't mean we would want some of them in the White House, or even in our dog house. I'm compassionate about Charlie manson, but I sure as hell don't want him as my countrys leader! I'm compassionate about anyone who is so deep into the clutches of Satan that it would take an angel with a forklift to ply them out. Just because we feel pity or compassion for someone does not mean we are inspired to bring them into our life as the leader of our nation. You need to learn the difference in feeling sorry for someone and praying for them and in adopting them. Compassion and common sense should go hand in hand. I suppose you would feel such compassion for an ax murderer who has lost his way from Christ, that you would invite him into your home as a guest, then ask him how he would like to put his name on the ballot to run for president Of the U.S.A. WE, on the other hand, would pray for him, then leave him into the hands of the law. Thats common sense. That, also, Iron Horse, is the difference in a liberal and a conservative, and why we win and you are sitting in a courtroom trying to explain to the judge why you are in the company of a known criminal. The big difference---two words: Common Sense. Yes, Jesus hung out with theives, prostitutes, ect., but he knew who he was dealing with and how to deal with them. We don't. Sometimes, you just have to care about someone from a distance.

I am very disappointed in your writers and your magazine, I guess I always believed that you tried to be fair and unbiased in every article, I always hoped that no matter what my political beliefs were I would get the straight story from a major magazine like Newsweek.... clearly I was naive. Your article on Sarah Palin did little to hide your disdain for her, her beliefs and her accomplishments, you used every opportunity to use her "critics" to hint at supposed impropriety and only grudgingly admitted to the possibility that she is an amazing woman who could be an amazing VP. Shame on you Newsweek! If I can see your blatent bias in this article, then the rest of the world will too. You have really disappointed me. Posted by dribrats @9/09/08 11:33pm

    AlaskaNomics:101 ...Palin Lies...A LOT !!!

Sarah Palin thinks she is a better American than you because she comes from a small town and a superior human being because she isn't a journalist and has never lived in Washington and likes to watch her kids play hockey. Although Palin praised John McCain in her acceptance speech as a man who puts the good of his country ahead of partisan politics, McCain pretty much proved the opposite with his selection of a running mate whose main asset is her ability to reignite the culture wars. So maybe Governor Palin does represent everything that is good and fine about America, as she herself maintains. But spare us, please, any talk about how she is a tough fiscal conservative.
    -----------------

Palin has continued to repeat the already exposed lie that she said "No, thanks" to the famous "bridge to nowhere" (McCain's favorite example of wasteful federal spending). In fact, she said "Yes, please" until the project became a symbol and political albatross.

Back to reality. Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 2 1/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double. The trick is that Alaska's government spends money on its own citizens and taxes the rest of us to pay for it. Although Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook.

Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC. It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue. On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering from high gas prices or can't afford to heat their homes is strictly crocodile tears.

As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.
