Palin "Bridge to Nowhere" line ANGERS MANY ALASKANS!!!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere."

In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

The bridge, a span from the city to Gravina Island, home to only a few dozen people, secured a $223 million earmark in 2005. The pricey designation raised a furor and critics, including McCain, used the bridge as an example of wasteful federal spending on politicians' pet projects.

When she was running for governor in 2006, Palin said she was insulted by the term "bridge to nowhere," according to Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein, a Democrat, and Mike Elerding, a Republican who was Palin's campaign coordinator in the southeast Alaska city.

"People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I'm for this' ... and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly she starts using the very term that she said was insulting," Weinstein said.

Palin's spokeswoman in Alaska was not immediately available to comment.

National fury over the bridge caused Congress to remove the earmark designation, but Alaska was still granted an equivalent amount of transportation money to be used at its own discretion.

In an endorsement statement, Koch wrote that "the issue for me is who will best protect and defend America" and that both parties were strong on terrorism.

I have concluded that the country is safer in the hands of Barack Obama, leader of the Democratic Party and protector of the philosophy of that party. Protecting and defending the U.S. means more than defending us from foreign attacks. It includes defending the public with respect to their civil rights, civil liberties and other needs, e.g., national health insurance, the right of abortion, the continuation of Social Security, gay rights, other rights of privacy, fair progressive taxation and a host of other needs and rights.

If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin is a plucky, exciting candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would scare me if she were to succeed John McCain in the presidency.



Koch said he'd visited six states for Bush in 2004, primarily Florida, but also several others. ("Why they sent me to Iowa, I don't know.") He said he'd be happy to campaign for Obama "if they ask me to."

Koch is a member of a set of secular, swing-voting Jewish Democrats who may have been pushed away by the selection of Palin, and his endorsement may be a marker of an opportunity for Obama to strengthen his campaign among older Jewish voters in Florida.

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

Pretty strong language -- rather "inflammatory" I would call it.

So, why did Sarah and Todd Palin, at the beginning of her political career, decide to have these associations and why did he become a member for seven years?

Palin has courted the group over the years.

There are several people who make comments here, who can easily be identified by their persistence, their dishonesty, their strong bias and their extreme statements, who simply have connection, being volunteer/staff, with the Republicans and are assigned to do what they are doing. The garbage they persistently put out and refer people to should further identify them and should be understood as attempts to mislead and manipulate. Just because things are offered on the internet doesn???t make them true; we need to be careful what and who we trust and to be logical, rational and objective ourselves. It is important to get it right this time!

MSNBC reports that Obama took his gloves off today: A visibly upset Obama said. "How dare McCain talk about his scars.....as if to imply that I have not suffered, that I have not sacrificed. I too have scars." And with that the junior Senator from Illinois allowed journalists to look up his nose at his nasal septum. He then lifted his pants and revealed several scars on his knees. "Look...Look at these" he exclaimed. Several journalists openly wept. Others wanted to see if he had any scars on the palms of his hands. "I too have suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. I too have suffered"

It is the GOP that, in advocating the double standard, blames anyone who challenges its brand of America (they don't care if Palin's husband was a former separatist, but they wll react angrily when Michele said she was proud for the first time in her life because Americans are putting aside centuries of racism and sexism).
2. You don't credit Obama's accomplishment, you one-minded, narrow brained fool. Obama rose from a broken home (his mom, a white womn, used food stamps at some point) and he rose to become a lawyer, president of the Harvard Review, Ill. Senator, U.S. Senator, presidential nominee, etc before he did community organizing work (just as Jesus was doing community organizing that Palin insulted, seemingly insulting even the Lord).
3. She smoked marijuana when it was legal in Alaska (just as most politicians do) if you try to one-sidedly argue that Obama smoked marijuana.
4. Obama lived a much more broken, dfficult life, something that can be related to the very heart of middle class America, not conservative exurban America of Sarah Palin.
