Well, here is some information on Obama's tax cuts for the middle class. And the tax code will not be thousands of pages long with Obama.

Oh yes, let's discourage investment and savings. And let's make the retirees selling the investments they live on pay even more taxes. That will certainly turn our economy around a lot faster.

And don't you dare give businesses tax breaks to retool and retrain for tomorrow's jobs. That would just be horrible, wouldn't it?

More Obama saying one thing and doing another:

"Instead of having all of us pay our fair share, we've got over $1 trillion worth of loopholes in the corporate tax code," he said. "This isn't the invisible hand of the market at work. It's the successful work of special interests."

Obama has lambasted lobbyists and moneyed interests who "have turned our government into a game only they can afford to play."

"It's an entire culture in Washington -- some of it legal, some of it not," the Democratic hopeful told a New York crowd in June. But last year Obama introduced nine separate bills exempting foreign chemical company Nufarm from import fees on a range of chemical ingredients it uses in the manufacture of pesticides and herbicides.

Nufarm wasn't the only beneficiary of Obama's efforts to reduce customs fees and duties. In early May of 2006, two Washington lobbyists registered to work on behalf of Astellas Pharma, a Japanese-owned drug company which also has offices in Illinois.

Together, Obama's obscure measures -- known as tariff suspensions -- steered more than $12 million away from federal coffers, according to government estimates.

While legal, Obama's bills on behalf of Nufarm and other companies are part of the special treatment machine Washington rolls out for special interests, say good-government watchdogs. With a dozen tariff suspension bills to his name, Obama stands out as the most prolific of any presidential hopeful on the topic. Sen. John McCain introduced none.

"If you have a company...there's a whole factory set up to help you get these suspensions," said Steve Ellis, president of the Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense. "It's a pay-to-play system you have to rev up and work." Hire the right lobbyist, pay the right fee, and you can save millions, he explained.

"We need a president who sees government not as a tool to enrich well-connected friends and high-priced lobbyists, but as the defender of fairness and opportunity for every American," the candidate said in his June speech. "That's the kind of president I intend to be."

But his actions speak louder than his words.

I hear a lot about Obama at Harvard, but nothing much about Obama's performance at Columbia. Here's what I have been able to find:

"Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.

The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.

A spokesman for the university, Brian Connolly, confirmed that Mr. Obama spent two years at Columbia College and graduated in 1983 with a major in political science. He did not receive honors, Mr. Connolly said."

    http://www.nysun.com/new-york/obamas-years-at-columbia-are-a-mystery/85015/

Makes me wonder how he got into Harvard -- someone pulled some strings.

Is this an editorial? For something that's supposed to be a feature piece, it reads like a campaign ad.

Palin's "reputation is built largely on standing up to corruption"? Does that include abuse of power-type corruption, or do the authors have their own defnition of the word?

And what about her (honestly held) reputation for political naivety? Like when she made it clear she didn't know what the Bush Doctrine is? Or that her diplomacy experience arises out of the fact that her state borders Russia? Or that her most useful executive experience is as a mayor of a town with a population smaller than some high schools?

I'm really disappointed in this piece, and Newsweek.

And all this dreck about bringing your kids to work--what about the fact that she ran back to work the moment she'd pushed her Down's syndrome baby out into the world? Kids born with challenges like these benefit greatly from dedicated care. Well, sorry about that, little Trig, but your development isn't going to interfere with Mommy's political career.

I'm really disappointed in this piece.

Obama says I have the best plan to cure the Mortgage Crisis ??? this is a Lie. He and his campaign buddy Penny 'Sub Prime Bank Collapse' Prizker have had your little fingers full of subprime cash - Obama has taken $1,180,103 from the top issuers of subprime loans: Obama received $266,907 from Lehman, $5395 from GMAC, $150,850 from Credit Suisse First Boston, $11,250 from Countrywide, $9052 from Washington Mutual, $161,850 from Citigroup, $4600 from CBASS, $170,050 from Morgan Stanley, $1150 from Centex, and last but certainly NOT LEAST - Obama received $351,900 from Goldman Sachs. I am sure that cash all came from folks who knew the subprime loan they had was a dream,
Then how did FANNIE MAE Director Jim Johnson end up on Team Obama?[and then have to quit after it was found that COUNTRYWIDE Loans gave him cut-rate mortgage interest deals]?
It is also important to acknowlage that Obama has embraced Rubinomics in fact. Not in theory. Indeed,Rubin serves as Obamas top economics ''wise man''directing the reins of his policy, eclipsing Goolsbee. Yet responsibility for the impending financial disaster, must be fairly laid at Rubins feet.
For over six decades, the GLASS-STEAGALL Act ,crafted during the New Deal in a masterpiece of Keynesian economics [the godfather of modern economics,Maynard Keynes, was often in direct opposition to many FDR policies. Roosevelt picked those ideas from both liberal and conservative economic philosophies leaving those in which would have the greatest effect. He would scrap the NRA,but kept this in place,[FDIC] as it did two things. First ,it would stop mega-mergers between bank consortiums ending the spectre of a ''National Bank''[a fear shared by the American people going back to Andrew Jacksons presidency]. Then,it would also create a wall between private non-banking lenders, insurance companies, and main financial institutions.
So far,so good. But in 1999,President Clinton at the urging of Robert Rubin [Treasury Sec.].repealed GLASS-STEAGALL,virtually setting up the sub-prime mortgage entity and the nightmare it would become. ''Ecomomic policy and its health would flow from financial sectors rather than trade and commodities'' noted critics from the UCLA School of Business,BLOOMBERG, and Investors Business Daily at the time. Preciently,it was found that Rubin would be the one who, having rammed through his repeal, garnering Republican support through Texas' Phil Gramm through a series of compromises worked out between him,Clinton and the Republican leadership, would go on to find his reward as chairman of CITIGROUP,where he immediately merged it with TRAVELERS Insurance, creating the first large, of many species, of the subprime mortgage lender.
That he just happens to be on Team Obama, should be neccesary cause for worry.

careerdaytrader: I could respond with my long list too, of injustices, deceptions, even criminal behavior committed by Bush-Cheney-Rove-etal and point out how it has drastically cost the middle class while patronizing the Special Interests and select few, who return support, contributions and promises for kickbacks after the politicians leave office. GWBush has even bragged that he will pass both his father and Bill Clinton in wealth shortly after he leaves office. There is no benefit to other than a few to continue that and all McCain-Palin offer is more of the same (which is obvious when objectively and rationally considering all of the issues). I was a registered Republican for many years but the Republican Party has literally lost its way, it is no longer what it was 18 years ago and calling them conservative is unreal as they spend more and waste more with bigger government and all just for the benefit of a few. I really don't care about Republican or Democrat and rather only want an honest government that is responsible to all of the people, first honest, then transparent so we know they are honest - much different than what we have today and what McCain-Palin offer.

THIS COUNTRY NEEDS A CIC WITH "BOTH" RIGHT NOW.

You need to do your research citizen. Sarah Palin and her family were members of the AIP and you know about that party. She wanted women to pay for a rape kit if they get raped. Out of touch their. She believes in killing animals while her kids are there. And she is more Bush than McCain. She don't believe in equal pay for women. She is a woman and she stole money from her own State while sitting at home. McCain, oh god we don't even want to go their.
Obama/Biden 08!!! We need change badly.

        • Posted By: neocon @ 09/11/2008 3:11:42 PM

Yes you do need to do your research. Palin was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party ??? which calls for a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the union or remain a state ??? despite mistaken reports to the contrary. But her husband was a member for years, and she attended at least one party convention, as mayor of the town in which it was held.

The party's chair originally told reporters that Palin had been a member, but the official later retracted that statement. Chairwoman Lynette Clark told the New York Times that false information had been given to her by another member of the party after she first told the Times and others that Palin joined the AIP in 1994. Clark issued an apology on the AIP Web site.

The director of Alaska???s Division of Elections, Gail Fenumiai, confirms that Palin registered to vote in the state for the first time in May 1982 as a Republican and hasn???t changed her party affiliation since. She also told FactCheck.org that Palin???s husband, Todd, was registered with AIP from October 1995 to July 2000, and again from September 2000 until July 2002. (He has since been registered as undeclared.) However, the AIP says Todd Palin "never participated in any party activities aside from attending a convention in Wasilla at one time."

I dont' like the way the left liberals are taking this country. I live in Florida and would be GLAD to leave America and have our own government here run by intelligent PRO BUSINESS leaders!

I'd be the first to vote for LEAVING the left leaning America, the socialist America!

What is SO WRONG with that? There are probably 50 to 100 million people who if push came to shove would RATHER have a new country that supports THEIR VALUES than stay in a country that is going down the tubes!

A man who will put country first or a man who will put interest group first? What will it be? Less taxes or more taxes? Less government or more government? More individual responsibility or more government dependence? More freedom or more political correctness? Who will it be? A son of Franklin, Washington, and Hamilton or a son of Marx, Sartre, Marcuse, Malcolm X, Carmichael, and Fanon? What will it be? Who will it be?

I am very much an Independent and have done my research and pride myself in being rational, objective and in making conscience driven decisions. I even live in AZ and I'm very aware of who and what McCain is. And anyone who infers Bush-Cheney are one thing and McCain-Palin are substantially different isn't doing their research, being rational and objective but rather are letting their biases, prejudices and self-interests dictate to them. Another four years of Republican irresponsibility is scary and worse, Sarah Palin ever being president is down right frightening. I've got to go guys, things to do - have fun!

Beware of Palin and I mean it. She always covers her words not in the rhetoric of logic but that of a Right Wing Fanatic. She says, "I will find savings in the Bureauocracy of Washington, D.C".. What she means is that, she wants to kick the Department of Interior tail out of Alaska. Why? Many of her supporters in Alaska are extremely greedy wooly anaimals that hate the federal government. The want the state of Moose Poop to open protected lands for Home Steading, Oil Drilling, Clear Cut Logging and Unmanaged Mining. Alaskans have always wanted wilderness lands for CowBoy Style Developement and every one on the West Coast knows it.
Alaska was founded on the Rape & Pillage Mentality, Gold Rush, the first Great Republican Scandal in the 20th Century was the illegal sale of federal forest lands by republican hacks in Alaska. Sarah does believe in smaller government because it's easier to bribe, intiminate and corrupt the few rather than the many. Just think about the few in the government's current oil scandle.

Yes, Sarah you are a Republican Piece of Work and your corruption proves it, no matter many Bibles you wave or Flags you wrap yourself in. Remember the last refuge of scoundrel is always Patriotism.

Another thing, if my sister were running for vice-president - even if I thought there were some things she should work on, I would know for a fact that she would make the best vice-president. Her sister still doesn't know? Ok, if you're thinking of voting for church secretary, but for vice president??? If I had to think about it, my sister probably wouldn't be the right person for the job. If she was qualified and still needed to work on some things....It would be a definite "yes." She would have my vote - or at least I wouldn't let anyone hear me say I that I wasn't sure. Her sister is so honest. Maybe she's better for the job.

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/13/2008 8:19:55 PM

HUH?? I hear what you are attempting to say---I think. Maybe her sister is just confused, or maybe a tad envious of all the attention her sister is getting, or maybe she just doesn't want to comment on it. Stop speculating on something you know nothing about. Some people just do not like the limelight focused on them even if their sibling is a public figure, and resent being questioned, or feel uncomfortable with it.

After the Gibson interviews I was terrified of Sarah Palin and her incredible lack of knowledge on critical issues. She would have us go to war with Russia or Iran on a whim ("I would not second guess our Allies"). What is she talking about - OF COURSE you second guess your allies - you question anyone who wants to start a nuclear war! That's what a leader does - ask questions - challenge people - but Palin will just simply sit back and let others lead us into catastrophe! What kind of foreign policy is that?

This is why we need change - real change - and have smart leaders in the White House. Obama/Biden has now earned my trust - and Palin lost me!

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/13/2008 8:00:05 PM

IV, somesone in the White House before Bush second guessed the enemy, he second guessed that they were just harmless little guys playing games, and we saw the results of that, so no, no more trying to second guess and being wrong, now its time to take action the minute we suspect any suspicious activity from countries which are negative toward us. I'm not saying we should go drop a bomb on them, and I don't think that was what Sarah Palin was saying either, but that we should monitor their activities very closely and if things start to look like they intend to use agressive force against us, then we do whatever is necessary to prevent that. We can't afford to play the wait & see game anymore, too many lives are at stake. Please don't take Governor Palin's statements out of context.

Why is her parents' front yard piled high with pelts and racks? They can't all be bears and people don't usually keep "pelts" from moose and caribou. Do these people kill and skin any animal that crosses their path? Why do they display their massive kills in front of their house ? To show how brave they are? To ward off evil spirits? What are they, cave men?

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/13/2008 7:28:14 PM

Yeah, Waite, real cave people, so I would advise you not to get too colse, or your pelt could end up on the pile. Seriously, how is it any of your business? I love animals, too, but even God made clothing for Adam & Eve out of hide or skin, so will you be so obnoxious as to argue with Him? No, we don't need to do that any more for clothing, but do you eat meat? If you do, where do you think it comes from---a meat tree?

2 young women, Quinn Latimer and Lyra Kilston (womensaynopalin@gmail.com) have started a blog that has registered more than 60,000 womens' responses to Palin : http://womenagainstsarahpalin.blogspot.com . They say "She is against sex education, birth
control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative
energy, freedom of speech (as mayor she attempted to ban books and fire the
librarian who refused), gun control, separation of church and state, and
polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of experience.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother,
or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager - but as a rash,
incompetent, and altogether devastating choice for Vice President."
    Check it out!

Goodin, so what you are, essecentially, saying, but used a lot of un-neccessaty words, when it would have been so much easier, and more to the point to say: "We're not agaist Palin, we just for Obama." Yeah, we can read between the lines. Why does the left feel they have to go into great depth to explain their reasons for their choices? Who cares? It all boils down to the same thing: No matter what Palin says or does or doesn't say or doesn't do, you will find a reason to not approve. Just be honest, you like Obama because he will encourage you to keep on having irresponsible sex and if, Uh Oh, you "happen" to get preggers, well, hell, no problem, we'll just murder the baby and be on our merry way, to do it again! Now, isn't this fun! Don't be such a hypocrit, and go off on what you think is an acceptable spill about your reasons, as though anyone will actually believe you. Just get to the bottom line. No matter how you try to sugar coat it, its still BS.

Your Sarah Palin cover stayed on my mind this week. Something just wasn't right or was it? Then it hit me, the photograph was void of any background. Just like the subject herself. Very clever.

    • Posted By: star3 @ 09/13/2008 7:00:10 PM

Jlakin, she has more background than you have teeth, try chewing on that for awhile before it chokes you.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/12/2008 7:50:53 PM

She has all the background she needs for Vice President., and the polls show it.

And as if Obama has the background for President. Please.

Obama - Harvard Law Review, Illinois State Legislature, United States Senate.
Sarah Palin - Mayor of tiny hamlet, Gov. of 3rd smallest state for 20 months.

You REALLY want that debate? You have to be ignorant or stupid to think she is more expierienced!

        • Posted By: star3 @ 09/13/2008 6:54:53 PM

          Obama------Who cares.

          Sarah palin-------Love her!

        • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/13/2008 2:58:14 PM

Re read my post. I said VP. And did I say she was more experienced than Obama? However, at least she's governed a state.

And the Harvard Law Review along with community organizer in Illinois doesn't exactly qualify Obama as president.

          • Posted By: Independant Voter @ 09/13/2008 3:30:22 PM

Law Review, community organizer, AND Legislature and SENATE! Do you READ these first - or just post your bias - and do you really think she is even qualified to be Governor after that interview???

Put aside your partisan bias and look at this as a rational, intelligent person. She is simply not qualified to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. How hysterical would you and others be if Obama or Biden said the crazy things she said in that interview? Be honest!

            • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/13/2008 5:50:15 PM

BTW... And your posts aren't biased?

              Right.

            • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/13/2008 5:43:39 PM

So we see things very differently, and yes, I'm honest. Obama has no major accomplishments either. He used the Senate to run for president. By his own admission, he started running for president while still getting lost in the Senate halls. As a legislator, Obama's job was to legislate. I don't believe he's introduced even one bill that was signed into law.

Your posts refer to Palin as if she' running for president. She's not. However, in the unlikely event that she becomes president early in McCain's term, she will do what Obama has done. Choose a VP that has more experience than he does.

And I liked how Palin handled herself in that interview, especially with biased Gibson. It's sad that Gibson or any other MSM would ever even think of asking Obama the same questions with the same, condescending attitude. Along with Gibson, you're obviously comfortable with Obama's long time associations with people like William Ayres and Jeremiah Wright. I am not. He distanced himself from them only when it became politically expedient for him to do so.

BTW, so you think Gov. Palin isn't qualified to be governor... 82 percent of Alaskans think otherwise.

I thought you were going to talk about the MOTHER *** BEAR IN THE BACKGROUND! RUN PALIN, RUN!
