WELL DONE NEWSWEEK. This is one fantasticly vindictive piece of yellow journalism.

Please, don't give me this sh** about how you are "just reporting the facts". Is there even one person in America who can HONESTLY deny that this reporter has an incredible bias against Palin (and probably Republicans in general)?!? Hmm, let's consider all of the not-so-subtle barbs against her religion, her parenting skills, her husband, her governing ... And we won't even go into the full-on accusations against the integrity of her office. I suppose you did use about three positive adjectives in the whole piece, so for that you get an A+ in fairness and non-judgementalism.

Your magazine (and this article) is only proving her correct ... she won't be seeing any "good opinions" or balanced reporting from the liberal media elite anytime soon. Too bad BIASweek won't be gaining any good opinions from anyone looking for fair and honest coverage.

I cant wait until McCain is our next president. Im sick of hearing selfish pro-choice feminists speak. Go away already and go back to being good women and mothers. No one that calls themselves a Christian should be voting for a pro-choice president. Only the others are expected.

No one calling themeself a Christian should be judging other Christians.

To be a Christian is to stand up for what is right and let people know when they are misguided.

Yeah that's right. We should go back to being barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, right? While all you manly men fix the terrible evils of the world that our simpleton minds just can't grasp? Idiot.

McCain's judgement should be seriously questioned! He made a terrible mistake in picking Plain. Obvious fact: in the wake of the government taking over Fannie Mae and Freedie Mac - here's what Sarah Palin had to say below. Sarah Palin is seriously under-qualified for a job that McCain (should he win - which I don't see it happening) that she has ABSOULTELY NO KNOWLEDGE of national or foreign policy and lacks the understanding for a wide array of issues right now!! Palin is not ready to be VP for anybody!!
Gov. Sarah Palin made her first potentially major gaffe during her time on the national scene while discussing the developments of the perilous housing market this past weekend.

Speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." The companies, as McClatchy reported, "aren't taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization."

Economists and analysts pounced on the misstatement, saying it demonstrated a lack of understanding about one of the key economic issues likely to face the next administration.

"You would like to think that someone who is going to be vice president and conceivable president would know what Fannie and Freddie do," said Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. "These are huge institutions and they are absolutely central to our country's mortgage debt. To not have a clue what they do doesn't speak well for her, I'd say."
Even conservative analysts acknowledged that the statement simply did not hold true.

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 09/08/2008 4:00:11 PM

Can I ask how you run on the CHANGE message. And then say Palin isn't qualified because she doesn't know foriegn policies of the same ole same ole?

  • Posted By: Omaar @ 09/08/2008 3:41:55 PM

Sarah Palin's Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae, Gaffe

Note: Even conservative analysts acknowledged that the statement simply did not hold true.

"Heretofore, if the treasury had a balance sheet there would have been a liability but there was never a taxpayer payment before [the bailout]," said Gerald P. O'Driscoll, an economist with the Cato Institute. "[Fannie and Freddie] were not taxpayer funded. They had taxpayer guarantee, which is worth something, especially in the stock market..."

The Palin misstatement comes as Fannie and Freddie are set to be placed under control of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, created by President Bush in late July to help regulate the two housing giants. Both presidential candidates have been critical of Fannie and Freddie but neither is opposed to the government's plans for the companies. The treasury is hoping that the government's role will help stabilize credit markets and incentive more mortgage lending.

Big Note: "With the takeover they will be taxpayer funded," said O'Driscoll. "As I understand it they get to withdraw funds with permission going forward."

How politically significant a "gaffe" it is remains to be seen.

Bigger Note: The Major concern about Palin's position on the ticket is that SHE LACKS the Economic and Foreign Policy wherewithal to serve as Vice President. This certainly doesn't help on that front. At the same time, the remark went almost entirely unnoticed over the weekend and discussions on the developments of the housing market can be difficult to process for even the most attuned voter.

Better go check my mailbox again to see if my check is there...maybe it got lost, or maybe sent to the wrong address...or HEY!! maybe a liberal got it by mistake and bought some more votes for their side! I just wanted to share a fable that I've found useful when discussing the republicans. It's the story of the turtle and the scorpion. It is an excellent way of making a point that I think will stick. If you haven't heard it, this is the version I know:

A scorpion goes over to a turtle at the riverbank and asks him to give him a ride across the river. The turtle says to the scorpion " if I give you a ride across the river you'll sting me and I'll drown. The scorpion replies, " I am a student of logic if I stung you, you would sink and I'd drown too. Upon hearing this the turtle thinks for a moment and say OK hop on. Half way across the river the scorpion stings the turtle. The turtle says "now what did you do that for, now we're both going to drown. Look at the past eight years and REMEMBER THIS STORY AT THE VOTING BOTH!

It is really funny that most of the Obama supporters keep calling people who disagreed with them "stupid, dumb,....ect...." but their own posting really does not have any intelligence!

McCan's supporters do call people names too, but there is much less compared to Obama's

If you think the Republicans are looking out for your best interests you need to take a very close look at their voting record. Unless you are making a pile of cash, then rock on. they will continue to help you make more. I just hope you're not a veteran or in the middle class and trying to send a kid to college, or worrying about how you will pay for health care, or trying to find a new job. If you are I'm sure a few crumbs will trickle down. Just keep an eye out they are very small crumbs.

Just in McCain-Palin ticket has it's first lead of the election. Boasting a 4 pt lead over Obama-Biden. Hope you Dems are ready for CHANGE. It;c coming fast! Did you really think you could win an election with an empty suit running around saying we're not Republican?

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 09/08/2008 11:27:26 AM

That is registered voters. When using "likely voters" their lead jumps to 10 points. Hussein/Biden is gasping for air.

Thank God America has finally objected to Obama's HUGE TAX increases, WELFARE programs that THEY did not want to PAY for!

Obama is RACIST. His policies are VERY racist! MORE blacks are not covered by health insurance as a PERCENTAGE than any other race.

They once asked Obama what he thought about reparations for slavery. He said he disagreed with them because they did NOT GO FAR ENOUGH.

His policies SURE DO GO FAR enough with so many welfare programs to help blacks at the expense of successful working whites. Pure BS.

If you REALLY want to end or reduce poverty 70% make a law that states if you can NOT AFFORD kids do NOT HAVE THEM! You should need $30,000 income for 1 kid, $50k for 2, $75k for 3 and $100k for 4 kids.
Solution: Poverty cut 70% in one generation.

        • Posted By: star3 @ 09/08/2008 3:20:24 PM

Trader, you are correct, Obama is racist, he and his camp seem to constantly refer to race much more often than the right does. Its my opinion he does it in an attempt to get the black vote, and he probably will get a good percent of their vote for no other reason except that he is black, never mind that his mother was white. That is really not a good reason to vote for a candidate, but many blacks will accept any issues or not even care about the issues, but just that they believe he is "one of them", so will be on their side. He won't. Thats a fact, but they will not be convienced until their belief in him all falls apart when they find out his true plans. Obama cares about Obama, peroid. He will say whatever he thinks will win him the vote, and yes, thats politics, so we expect it, but its up to the voter to decide which one they trust most to follow through with promises. Personally, I trust McCain more, and his choice as a running mate is a great one. He did not need a boost to get people to believe in him, his policies are enough to do that, but it doesn't jurt a bit to have someone beside you who is a good speaker and has good family values, plus a great politician, someone the people can relate to, who has to deal with the same type problems and concerns that most of us do, and who does not have, what some may feel is a perfect life, but it works for her and her family, so who are we to judge? There are not many who do have the model family they hoped for, so we deal with what we are given to the best of our ability. Most of us are not the Waltons, with Mary Ellen & John Boy, but we aren't the Simsons, either; yellow people with blue hair; we are probably somewhere in between. We deal with what God gives us, and that is ordinary folks, which most of us are.

  • Posted By: just jerry @ 09/08/2008 3:19:43 PM

The truth is that we won't get to know Sarah Palin any better than we get to know any other politician. Who they actually are is hidden behind all the smoke and mirrors supplied by both ends of the political spectrum.
I suspect she isn't to muxh different than the rest of us; capable of good and bad judgement, capable of saying utter nonsense and things that actually make sense.

She isn't the story - the story is what will happen and what will be done depending on the outcome of the election. The reality that I see is that the problems are so great and the mess so messy that no matter who is elected they will have to work together with the other side just as we all have after any other national disaster. And, that is what we have on our hands a national disaster.

If she's so horrible as a mother, wife, governor, and person in general, why does she have such an incredibly high approval rating from those people in Alaska who should have suffered the brunt of all of her terrible policies and inability as mayor or governor. In fact, she has a tremendous rating as a governor and the great and wonderful Democratic congress that we so eagerly elected has a lower job approval rating than her and even significantly lower the President Bush!!!

  • Posted By: 2Endur @ 09/08/2008 3:08:48 PM

With her strong religious beliefs and in strict accorance to the ten commandments, how can she justify McCain's numerous (and bragged about) acts of adultery and his abandonment of his handicapped first wife. Can anybody answer the question: How can any far right religious zelot endorse an ADULTERER as president?

    • Posted By: jmd8888 @ 09/08/2008 3:13:40 PM

She is not the Vice President of John McCain - she is the VIce President of the United States of America. Hopefully her values can bring change to this one nation that used to be "under god"

Not all Alaskans are in favor of Sarah Palin and we will vote against her. She allowed the controversial bridge to have a great start because she allowed the road to the bridge to go forward while denying support for it. More corrupt Alaska government and deception. Almost all of the military in Alaska is pro Sarah and Mc Caine and riding the rah-rah band wagon and blinded by all the pro support your military but I am former military and retired and can see through all the smoke screen. First of all military members have no choice but to fully obey the president and not talk down of them but most don't know they don not legally have to support Bush for example. You will here allot of negativity about Clinton because of his unpopular decisions so the hypocracy lives on in Federal government. The military needs to know they can be ambassadors of peace and ready to fight when truly necessary and hope to follow and trust that America has chosen the best choices of government for the sake of all humanity. America needs one government for one country not Red against Blue or green etc. America stop, pointing fingers at each other and groups of people or race for 8 years strong now we are the Divided States of America! Sarah Palin lowered herself in class by slinging mud at Obama and the nice things he said about her pregnant unwed daughter. She is just like all the Red's, dirty, untrustworthy, hypocritical, deceptive, and plain crooked. They are always crying about everyone else but themselves.

    G E T O F F S A R A P A L I N !

This is not about Sara Palin this is about John Mccain and his irresponsible and irrational choice for his VP running mate.

This is John McCains ball game and he is the one making the decisions. The Republicans have you all looking the other way by making you think this is about Palin and John McCain having his strings pulled with his campaign manager saying things like "This election is not about issues" or one of his surragates saying' "John Mccain does not speak for this campaign" or turning "Community Organizer" into a dirty word when we all know that is a great way to reach and help peple who are in greater need than ourselves. No sir This election on the Republican side is being run by the one and only John Mccain and nobody else. If you think otherwise you are a fool in your own skin.

    "IT IS NOT"

This is all about John McCain and his extremely bad judgement.

The republican party is playing Bushy with all of you all over again by making you think that he is a puppet and his strings are being pulled by Rove and company and the Republican party.

    W E L L I H A V E G O T N E W S F O R Y O U!

Bush, Cheney and Mccain are dumb like foxes and we are all just fish on a hook and we are swallowing it hook, line and sinker and being reeled in all over again. They did it to everybody in 2000 and 2004 and they are right back at it again in 2008. As it stands right now they are winning and if we all keep talking about the wrong things till the General Election and lose focus of what is ailing our beloved country America will lose again.

I hope you can live with that because i can't bear the thought and i can't afford another 4 or more years of the same and as it looks right now you are all helping to get us to that juncture.

"Katrina, four dollar gas, a trillion dollar war, rising unemployment, deregulated housing market, global warming......."

    "N O M O R E"

This race should be about whether the Republican Party is going to be dismantled or not after the borderline treason of the past eight years. But instead it is about making the word "community organizer" a dirty word and a beauty queen who shoots foxes from a plane. Someone is not in any way doing their job and it's the press. Or more specifically, that job no longer exists.

Probably the worst offenders are the pundits who take the position that it's all just a game and say phrases like "getting a post-convention bump" or "playing to the soccer Moms." This isn't a game of Monopoly or Survivor. There are real truths that exist outside of the spin they are given and have an effect on lives. 250,000 Iraqi civilians are dead because we let our reality be distorted by the most effective propaganda machine in fifty years, the corporate American press. Money and jobs are flying out of this country as our currency becomes worthless and we're talking about the fact that McCain is a veteran. If someone busted into your house and robbed you would you then forgive them if you found out they were a veteran? Of course not. So why are we forgiving McCain for selling out his country by supporting the Bush agenda?

To the authors: How is it possible to write such a lengthy article about "The real Sarah Palin" when you haven't even been given an opportunity to talk with her? Or ask her even one question? Sincerely asked...my mind is boggled.

maybe you should go on CNN with all the liberal and godless people

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/08/2008 3:04:27 PM

You know that's the truth, right? Palin has been suspiciously quiet--why?

  • Posted By: benjizay @ 09/08/2008 2:08:49 PM

I would like to address the fact that the McCain-Palin supporters seem to be under the delusion that they are going to overturn Roe v. Wade when they are elected....George Bush had 8 years to make meaningful abortion reforms with a Republican majority congress for 6 years and conservative Supreme Court apointees in his corner.....they will NEVER overturn the aboriton laws....it is only a way for them to rally your anger and get you to vote for them.....the politics of fear....Mrs. Palin is supposedly for abstinence but ever herself according ot this article had sex before marriage...."she eloped and EIGHT months later had her first child"...also...she has a special needs child and claimed in her speech that Americans with special needs children had an ally in her.....this year and through to 2009 she slashed the Alaskan Special Needs Education budget by 62%......in other words she is more of the same.....she is as hypocritical as they come....

    • Posted By: webban2003 @ 09/08/2008 2:21:56 PM

benjizay, your comments contradict themselves. maybe you should run for office. LOL

    • Posted By: jmd8888 @ 09/08/2008 2:15:06 PM

Unfortuanately, you are probably correct that it will not get overturned. This is because there are so many terrible people that support this. This does not make it ok for people to vote for pro-abortion politians. Also, you did not need to say it 4 times.
