I believe nobody has the right to govern/policy a woman's uterus or other internal parts. Nobody has the right to self-righteously impose their beliefs on a woman's reproductive system. If our government tries to do this, either it is a theocracy that social conservatives would welcome with open arms like the Iranians, or it may be violating the Founding principles of our nation. Personally, I oppose abortion, but I don't see why I should try to impose my values and make value judgments on anything that I feel is against my Bible and my Christian God.

Lisaoo, I forgot to add... And McCain chose mostly ex-Bush aides to work for him and Palin, yet he is running on a "stolen" platform of change. Hypocrite.

I can't believe this is happening. Barack Obama would help get this country back on its feet again. This campaign of McCain/Palin would only muddle the next four years. More war, more resession, nothing for the common person. The example, taxing health insureance will break the banks of all working americans who have it. Also pork barrel spending, doesn't anyone realize this is the moneys that small towns and cities get for needed inferstructure, roads, bridges, hospitals.
What is government for, only funding wars and other countries needs, while we crumble.

Couric goes on record as saying to Cindy McCain, "Your husband believes Roe V. Wade should be Overturned"

Couric: Some, even Republicans, seemed surprised that Sen. McCain picked a running mate who opposes abortion even in the cases of rape and incest, and believes creationism should be taught in schools. And I'm just curious, do you agree with that?

McCain: What I agree with is the fact that she is a social conservative. She is a reform-minded woman. She is someone that will ??? shake Washington up, which is exactly what we want to do. We differ on many issues; we differ across the board with people. We don't have to agree on every issue.

Couric: Where do you stand on abortion?

McCain: I'm pro-life. I'm on the record as being pro-life, like my husband.

Couric: No. Why not? Your husband does.

McCain: Well, in that respect. Yes, yeah, I do. I understand what you're saying now. It's a states issue.

Couric: So, you believe it should be overturned or shouldn't be overturned.

McCain: I believe it's a states issue. That I do believe.

Couric: How do you feel about creationism? Do you think it should be taught in schools?

McCain: I think both sides should be taught in schools. I think the more children have a frame of reference and an opportunity to read and know and make better decisions and judgments when they are adults. So, I think you know I don't have any problem with education of any kind.

This article only appalls me further with McCain's VP choice. I always thought well of McCain even when we sometimes differed in viewpoints; however, with this cynical choice for VP, I have lost respect for him and certainly will not be voting for him. McCain chose a woman who believes rape victims should be further victimized by a state that compels them to have a rapist's baby, a woman who told a secessionist group that they were "doing good work," a woman who believes creationism should be taught in schools and doesn't believe in science, a woman who somehow naively believes that abstinence-only education works, a woman who belonged to a church where they speak in tongues with guest pastors proclaiming beliefs in witchcraft, a woman who exploits her own children for press attention and then runs from the press herself, a woman who has said she hasn't thought much about Iraq and believes her foreign policy experience comes from being a state close to Russia? John McCain, surely you jest.

* Yes, she did push for and approve the Wasilla Sports Center. Yes, it did cost a lot of money. (People keep saying $20 million, that article says $14.5 million, but then they also added a $1.2 million dollar food service/kitchen piece. This year, after Palin was out of office as Mayor.) Yes, the city went into debt to do it (how did you buy your house, bunkie?) and raised the city sales tax from 2 percent to 2.5 percent to pay for it. Yes, the city is paying it off early. Yes, there is an ongoing dispute about title (following a struggle with the Nature Conservancy and another buyer. And yes, at the time it was built, Wasilla had a Federal judge???s decision that they had title to the land.

* Yes, she did want authority to have wolves culled from the air, because they were taking too many moose and caribou. Which people hunt for food in the back country in Alaska. No, she is not shooting them herself. I mean, not that she couldnt, but I am sure she does not have time. (Thanks to bluemerlin in the comments.)

* No, the Downs baby (Trig) is not Bristols kid, and no, the kid was not born with Downs because (a) Palin flew on an airplane (b) went home to have the baby after an amniotic leak (c) because he was the result of incest between Todd Palin and Bristol.

* No, Track (the kid who is leaving for Iraq) did not join the NG because he was a drug addict. He may have joined the NG because he was tired of people saying his Mom was getting him into the good hockey leagues. (Yes, that one was original reporting. I have got sources in Wasilla.)

* No, Willow and Piper are not named for witches on TV. Among other things, Willow was born before Buffy came on TV, and Piper was born before Charmed.

The stance, which reflected the priorities of the GOP, nevertheless led to an incredulous editorial in the Juneau Empire:

"Abstinence may be a laudable goal, but failing to educate teenagers about how to protect themselves from disease or unintended pregnancy is tragically misguided. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, abstinence-only programs do not reduce sexual activity, teen pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease. And while we're on this subject, here's the genius of McCain on the issue:

I'm not sure why the Americans might think that Palin is worth energizing over. I'm a little freaked out that my own views seem to be so different from what the polling suggests today.

Do Americans, generally, want a woman's right to choose determined by Washington? Don't the Republicans always say that Washington is already too much in our lives.

Do Americans want tax breaks for only the wealthy? McCains plan is aimed at more trickle down theory while Obama's asks that those who have benfitted the most from this great country pay a little more while we fix our roads, bridges schools and so on.

Do Americans think that banning books is a good thing? Didn't we all have to read Lord of the Flies? It's a disturbing book, but I remember great conversations generated from this material that made us, as students, think.

Would American's be comfortable with a President who believes that our brave soldiers are "Messengers from God?" Isn't that what the radicals we're fighting in the Middle East tell their own people?

There are other annoying little items, such as the exaggerations about the Bridge to Nowhere (Palin supported it) and the Ebay Sale (plane actually sold thru a private broker at a loss). To be fair, the Dems are exaggerating too; Obama's tax plan would mean taxes would not increase for 81% of Americans, not the 95% he states. The 95% only applies if you have kids (dependents).

Can someone please tell me what Pailn TRULY offers without bringing up her gender or family?

Listen, I doubt seriously that Jesus would have been an advocate of killing unborn children. In fact, what of Mary had decided she was going to have an abortion because she was pregnant, and she didn't want it to complicate her life. Wouldn't that have been something.
The biggest problem with this subject is the lack of personal responsibilty. If you are having sex, there is a risk you might get pregnant. After all, as much fun as it is--that's really what it was designed for. Just because we found the science to "cure" it like a disease doesn't make it right.
Yeah, its a woman's right to decide--when men have no desicion at all--because that is what they tell them--if you didn't want to be a daddy--shouldn't have been dipping your wick. What a double standard.
Funny thing is--for being a woman's right to choose--most sure don't have a problem making the man financially responsible for that choice should SHE CHOOSE to have it--whether he wanted to be a parent or not.
You pro-choicers want it both ways, and that is the very definition of hypocrosy.

HolyRoller and jnaqvi - George Bush did not have any experience! That's why we are in this situation we are now with our economic and foreign affairs! Sarah Palin was chosen (sorry to say this) for her looks - for her newness (instant celebrity) and for her EXTREME views to energize the republican base who was not excited about McCain! McCain's base is still not excited, and the excitement will continue to decrease once Sarah Palin choose to become less cowardly and begin putting her positions on record by sitting down to do interviews like the other three candidates. She's supposed to be this tough politician who can deliver one line zinggers written by someone else - but what can she say with no script and teleprompter in front of her. As the moderate republicans begin to realize where this woman stands on her extreme views - she will drag this ticket down by losing the support of the moderates, independents and definately women! She has done nothing to make inroads with women. We vote on policy - not gender. She is anti-HIllary Clinton! I hope she does not align herself with the 18 million cracks in the ceiling becuase this does nothing but make us run for her. Palin stands for nothing that Hillary does. By the way - I wonder how the cliff notes for dummies session is going with Palin while Lieberman and Bush advisors are teaching her about foregin policy!!

Now Sarah Palin wants to pretend that she is change! HA!!! She has been a part of the same GOP party that has been in power for the last eight years - and not her or McCain has ever wanted to "CHANGE" anything!!! GOP will be fired after 8 years of horrible and unresponsible leadership. Any one else want to follow Obama's vision for change and try to steal his campaign theme? That's exactly what McCain is doing? And they say Obama does not have the vision, the leadership, the experience to run this country. He already is!!!!!
