A COMMUNTIY ORGANIZER IS A PERSON WHO HELPS INFORM AND GATHER THE COMMUNTIY SUCH AS CHURCHES AND LEAGUES FOR CAUSES AND BEING THERE TO HELP IN DAY TO DAY CIRCUMSTANCES AND SITUATIONS. THEY HELP TROUBLED KIDS, GET THE CLEAN OFF DRUGS AND HELP CHURCHES FROM CLOSING THEIR DOORS..................ETC. IT IS SO STUPID TO TALK DOWN TO A MAN FOR THIS FOR THE FACT HE'S LETTING YOU GUYS( JUST THE FACT HE WAS DOING THAT 3 YEARS OUT OF SCHOOL, THEN BECAOME A CIVIL RIGHTS ATTORNEY, CONSTITUTIONAL LAW PROFESSOR BEFORE GOING INTO POLITICS BUT DON'T LET THE FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF AN IGNORANT ASS STORY LINE). HE'S GIVING YOU THE PROVERBIAL ROPE TO HANG YOURSELVES. THERE ARE COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS IN EVERY INNER CITY AND MOST PUT THEIR LIVES N THE LINE WITH LITTLE ASSISTANCE. BY THE WAY THEY AND THE PEOPLE THEY HELP-VOTE TOO.
WONDER WHAT WAS PALIN DOING 3 YEARS OUT OF SCHOOL?
BARACK OBAMA - COMMUNITY ORGANIZER for the Developing Communities Project (DCP), which focused on black city neighborhoods.
It was said that the work of Obama and hundreds of other organizers did not transform the South Side of Chicago or restore lost industries. By OBAMAS OWN ADMISSION, there were FEW VICTORIES. But whether it was getting the city to fill potholes, provide summer jobs, or remove asbestos from the apartments or persuading the apartment managers to REPAIR TOILETS, pipes, and ceilings, Obama encouraged residents to come up with their own priorities stressing that it was their community.
OBAMAs words: I CAN NOT SAY WE DIDNT MAKE MISTAKES, THAT I KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING, Obama recalled three years ago to a boisterous convention of the still-active DCP. Sometimes I called a meeting, and nobody showed up. Sometimes preachers said, Why should I listen to you? Sometimes we tried to hold politicians accountable, and they didn not show up. I could not tell whether I got more out of it than this neighborhood.
TO THE MEDIA: PLEASE INTERVIEW SARAH PALIN AND FIND OUT WHO SHE IS. We, the American Public have a right to know where she stands on public policy and how she voted!! These stories are not coming out of nowhere!!
Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.
"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed for about six years.
Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.
Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.
Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called "pray away the gay" movement. Larry Kroon, senior pastor at Palin's church, was not available to discuss the matter Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.
TO THE MEDIA:PLEASE INTERVIEW BARACK OBAMA AND FIND OUT WHO HE really IS.
Oh forget it we can't trust the MSM because sources like CNN sit on information on Wooten and all his wonderful attributes (read my post above) while pointing their fingers at Palin and scream Troopergate for nearly a WEEK. Now there's news you can trust...NOT.
Ummm....Obama has his entire life story on his website. You can also find position papers there detailing his position on any issue for which you could ask. Do you really think in all this time that the Republicans and their people haven't tried to find anything on Barack damaging enough to win them the election? I think you underestimate them.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/kilkenny.asp
This may be the week McCain/Palin pull ahead in the polls...and once Obama is passed he will never get the lead back! His campaign as Rock Star has not been one of substance or stature. McCain and Palin know how to talk to Americans while Biden, like Obama, lecture! Thenhave to run or flip flop because some of what they say is rediculouse. (inflate tires to energy stability?).
Sorry that so far it did not happen. Once the media ask Palin about her membership with the AIP....A group that wanted to be seperate from America, we will see how much Palin loved America.
Chin, as much as you want to make THAT AIP topic fly it wont. As much as you might want to have it do so from the outside (Mexico) looking from the outside out.
Sharenews, as much as you want to believe that it doesn't matter, it does. You questioned Obama's faith in America and Michelle. You didn't want to answer McCain's comments when he said "at one time, I too did not love America." Now we find out that Sarah Palin at one time, use to be a member of the Alaskan Independence Party and now you want to say it doesn't matter. It doesn't work just one way. This party was started in 1970 and we say America first but the AIP say's Alaska first. Her true record is not coming out. I'm in Alaska all the time and just her 2 years as a Gov. She has alot of skeletons in her closet. Remember, Cindy McCain showed her Palin's skills.......Russia is close to Alaska......Hahahahahaha. You can't win this one sharenews.
Okay, chin, You are starting to become a gnat that buzzes around my head. I have responded to what McCain meant with that statement umpteen times, with all of them coming from you. What is your problem? You even have posted it again to others to respond and said that sharenews need not respond cuz she already has. Knock it off will ya? BTW, if Obamabots can have a blind eye to all of the scary things about THE HEARTBEAT, I think my turning a blind eye to the HEARTBEAT AWAY will work for me.
Nobambi
another apologist who thinks that consorting with a political party that is disloyal to america is not a big story. do these people have any real morals or beliefs?

McCain/ Palin are a JOKE. The Republican model does not work. You have had 8 years to prove your point.
Take a good look at what you have done. You have make a rope of your agenda and strangled this country.
But the myth is contradicted by some inconvenient facts. Only 1 percent of the state's land is in private hands, and the economy is dependent on oil and other natural resources controlled by the federal government or Big Oil. As a result, nearly 50 years after statehood, Alaska remains deeply dependent on the federal government for support. Social ills are rampant. The state's levels of drug abuse, alcoholism, domestic violence and child abuse are above average or among the highest in the country.
-------------------------------
To the extent Palin has a governing philosophy, it was shaped by her political mentor, former governor Wally Hickel. The 89-year-old Hickel is a member of the Alaska Independence Party, which espouses, among other things, greater autonomy or even separation from the United States. (Husband Todd Palin is not a member of the party now, but he was registered as an AIP voter at different periods of his life totaling seven years. Sarah has never been a member but attended a party conference in her hometown of Wasilla.) Hickel advocates an "economy of the commons," which would place the state's vast energy and mineral wealth in the hands of the state government and its citizens. In that vein, Palin this year ordered a one-time $1,200 energy refund distributed to each Alaska resident. (The revenues came from recalculating the tax on oil producers.)
I can't believe this story about Palin's ties to the AIP is not getting more traction. SarahPalinExposed reported on this September 1 and 3. When Gibson interviews Palin this coming week, he better ask her all the tough questions.Add to that the speech she gave at her church before the Wasilla Master's Commission. So Alaska pipelines and the war in Iraq are all God's plan? This stuff is on video! You can't make i up!
independent4life70 - you forget the part about the rapture and Alaska being a place of refuge for the people from the lower 48 when that occurs.
Barack Obama: 110th Congress
In the first month of the newly Democratic-controlled 110th Congress, Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D???WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act," which was signed into law in September 2007. He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections. Obama's energy initiatives scored pluses and minuses with environmentalists, who welcomed his sponsorship with John McCain (R-AZ) of a climate change bill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds by 2050, but were skeptical of his support for a bill promoting liquefied coal production.Obama also introduced the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007," a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.
Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.[42] He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, and joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism. A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill. Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said "shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans."
What are liberals afraid of, that Sarah because she has certain beliefs she going to hog tie them or moose tie them and then skin them. I dont think so, she will treat everyone equally she is out there to improve things for everyone; she did it as governor in Alaska. I have a friend whose mother and brother live in Alaska life time residents. They are democrats and he asked his mom what do you think of Sarah, and his mom said she is the best governor Alaska has a had ever. John McCain is a moderate; I mean Joe Lieberman backs him up. McCain has the guts to vote and cross party lines, Obama he is just present, and we have to have someone in the president???s office who can be commander and chief not just present like he is at a luncheon.
COME ON NOW-SINCE SHE HAS BEEN IN ALASKA THEY ARE NO. 1 AND 2 IN STD'S AND VINERAL DISEASES. (THAT'S IS GROSS NUMBERS, NOT PERCENTAGE WISE) NOT NEW YORK, NOT CALIFORNIA, NOT NEVADA, NOT FLORIDA(WHICH IS AMAZING) BUT ALASKA. SEE WHAT ABSTINENCE ONLY SEX EDUCATION GETS YOU?
LET'S KEEP IT REAL-SHE WILL BE AND SHOULD BE GRILLED. SHE GETS THE QUASI OBAMA TREATMENT HE'S BEEN GETTING THE LAST YEAR AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MUCH WHINING FROM REPUBLICANS. THE SAME PEOPLE WHO
1. GOT A BEST SELLING BOOK ON OBAMA PACK FULL OF LIES
2. WENT INTO THE MAN'S CHURCH AND RAN HIS PASTOR'S SERMONS' FOR 2 MONTHS
3.WENT AFTER THE MAN'S WIFE
4. HAD ASSASSINATION WEEK WHERE EVERYONE FROM HUCKABEE TO HRC WAS TALKING IN A WEIRD WAY ABOUT OBAMA'S DEMISE.
5. SEAN HANNITY AND HIS PEA RAIN RUNS A 6 DAY AWEEK "I HATE OBAMA" CAMPAIGN
6. RUSH LIMBAUGH TALKS ABOUT OBAMA SO MUCH HE PROBABLY ASK FOR OBAMA WHEN HE'S TALKING TO HIS OXYCOTIN DEALER. I NEED A 1000 OBAM.....I MEAN OXY'S MAN
7. THEY HAVE GONE ALL THE WAY TO KENYA TO TRACK DOWN HIS HALF BROTHER
8. HE SAYS BITTER AND THE RUN WITH IT LIKE HE SAID ' i'VE VOTED WITH BUSH MORE THEN 90% OF THE TIME.
9 THE ENTIRE FOX "NEWS" CHANNEL ATTACKS HIM DAILY. BUT YET HE STILL GOES ON THERE. YOU THINK YOU WILL EVER SEE PALIN OR EVEN MCCAIN ON A SHOW THAT IS THE LEFT VERSION OF O'REILLY(SUCH AS KEITH OLBERMANN)? HELL NO.
10. ATTACKED THE MAN'S CHRISTIANANITY.
11. ATTACKED HIS MOTHER AND HIS FATHER
SO STOP ALL THE DANG COMPLAINING.
Speaking of experience ...
Before becoming President, James Buchanan had served 6 years in the Pennsylvania state legislature, 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, 4 years as ambassador to Russia, 10 years in the Senate, 4 years as Secretary of State, and 4 years as Ambassador to England. Buchanan did just about everything except serve on the Supreme Court, a job he was offered by President Polk and refused. Yet by any measure, he wasn't up to the job as President. He may have been one of the worst Presidents ever - up there with Fillmore, Harding and G. W. Bush.
In contrast, Abraham Lincoln served 8 years in the Illinois legislature and one term in the U.S. House (1847-1849), a decade before becoming President. The rest of the time he was a lawyer in private practice, a bit thin one might say. And yet he seemed up to the task.
People don't always get the best President when they vote on the resumé.
We aren't exactly living in the same world as Lincoln was....
and I don't think Lincoln was a marxist
or had friends who had bombed the Pentagon.
Good one. . . you took the words out of my mouth, loriw. ; 0 D

Mark, what is it with the repeated posting of this link? Palin could have been arrested and thrown in jail in her past and I would still vote the MdCain/Palin ticket. And I will do it excitedly, which wasnt the case before she joined the ticket.

Great job Moozle!
rab015... First let me ask: Why would Palin be more qualified if she only
represented a town with a population of close to 6,000 (now around 9,000) and now
a state of about 670,000 and who holds beliefs at odd with the large, diverse, and
complex United States of America? Does it make her more qualified on the basis of
being mayor of a much smaller area than Chicago and governor of a state even smaller than the state of
Ill.? Does America's values in the 21st century better represented by a small-town
social cosnervative who has little understanding of the complex workings of the international
system? Will Obama's urban experiences be better suited to help address America's
security, energy, health care, and diplomatic challenges than a Palin who brings
small-town principles and who is driven more by emotions?
Iron Horse - How true? Only one correction the population of Chicago is 2,800,000. There are 16 US cities that have more population than Alaska.
I myself live in a community of about 5000 people - we have a town president and council that meets on a part basis. That means these people earn their livings by other professions. We do not have the issues of say Chicago, Milwaukee, or Coralville IA (18,000).
BTW - The first community organizer that Sarah Pallin's met was her pastor. Wonder how he took her speech?
got to go peace j and p is a winner
Terrorism did not necessarily start as a result of Carter's policies; it started when the current president's father shipped American troops to Saudi Arabia, the holy land of bin Laden (who felt offended by the presence of Americans and their ideals in a palce of Islam's birth). In fact, bin Laden was a friend of America until Bush had troops sent to the Middle East.
Too often, people just don't read history and will make ignorant comments.
I DOUBT I'LL GET ANY RESPONSES TO THIS!
Would any of you proud Republicans please share with us Democrats just what policies of the last 8 years you are proud of and would want to see continued for another 4 years?
You mean big government, pro-illegal immigration, wire-tapping, and a military interventionist foreign policy we leverage on behalf of Israel? Whose platform are we talking about now, the Dems or the GOP? Obama isn't fundamentally different on this. All Obama will add to ANYTHING is a tax hike.
Another deception. As a member of the Illinois State Senate, Sen. Obama was cosponsor of a bill which ultimately passed, creating the largest tax cut in state history. Since the start of his presidential campaign, he has consistently favored a broad-based middle class tax cut. By contrast, Sen. McCain "voted against tax cuts before he voted for them", and has no real credibility on this issue among conservatives. McCain was very critical of the Bush tax cuts, which most Republicans believe gave us years of prosperity - until very recently. Obama can thus be taken more seriously than McCain as a President who will cut taxes, rather than raise them. Stop lying.
I'm not lying. Lower taxes has forever been part of the Republican PLATFORM. They are NOT part of the Democratic platform. Whatever Obama may or may not have done, its his parties ideology I oppose. There are multitudinous reasons why American doesn't need Obama OR Bush, but until Americans wake and realize the game is rigged and there is no fundamental difference between parties on any of the issues that matter, then nothing will be achieved. Red and blue work for the same masters; they've both put on the yarmulke and said all the kosher things. Our foreign policy will not change to "minding our own business", we're not going to eliminate these 700 military bases in 130 different countries, we'll never have an unbiased approach to the Israeli occupation, we won't return to the gold standard, we won't actually EVER be free of oil, neither president will control illegal immigration ( Obama will probably open the floodgates ). I have no idea what "change" you're agitating for except maybe the color of his skin.
JBlackwell, Another deception. Lower taxes except for those who earn over 250k a year is part of the Dem. platform. and as far as lower taxes being part of the Repub platform, consider this; The last 5 repub. presidents had deficit spending every single year. Expect more of the same with McCain. The last 5 repub. presidents left the federal goverment larger than they found it, Expect more of the same with McCain. And with the repub. call for tax decreases, how did we get the money to cover the deficits and increased spending for the ever-larger government? Did we increase revenues and responsibly pay our way? No, we did not. We put it all on the ol' VISA card. Instead of tax and xpend liberals we got borrow and spend conservatives. Yep, we borrowed a ton of money from our bestest buddies: China and Saudi Arabia, etc. and plan to leave this enormous tab to our kids. And now we get to divert hundreds of billions of dollars a year to our bestest buddies to service the debt. Money that could have spent at home repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure, for example. Remember the Clinton surpluses???
neos if you check the treasuries own web page Clinton never ran a surplus. By the treasuries own numbers he ran a 360 billion deficit from 1997 to 2000.
Yeah right. Give one REPUTABLE link proving your decption. Websites like lexta.com and other right-wing bozo sites of course don't count.
Ok, if that is what you want: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np
And another deception from you. Where did this $250K figure come from? Did it come from the Democratic platform or OBAMA? No one denies that Bush screwed up and acted AGAINST his parties principles. That doesn't invalidate the principles. My humble opinion is that ALL income taxes are evil because they proceed from the idea that the government owns your labor ( and therefore YOU ). That is a very libertarian point of view, but given the choices in a rigged game, the GOP is the lesser of two evils. The biggest problem I have with Democrats is that when they can't get 51% of the vote, they start trying to manufacture the difference out of foreigners and illegals, and they're Balkanizing the country. There is nothing left here to save buddy. The country is going down the toilet and thats a fact, and neither Obama or McCain is going to stop that. In fact Obama is, more than anything, a SIGN that the American empire has run its course, and what we have to look forward to ( South Africa or Zimbabwe ).
Oh, you are a racist. Sorry to try and engage you in honest debate. Good bye.
I guess that eliminates from the debate just about all the racist blacks who supported Obama over Hillary in the South Carolina primary when the non-racist white vote was split more evenly.
The repubs can not run on issues and will resort to the old divisive personality game.. Nice try though.
My reference to his urban experiences is not to his community organizing experience (something Palin freely and self-righteously insulted), but to the fact that he udnerstands not only small-town Americans (his mother's middle-class roots, etc), but he has a better understanding, as someone who lived his life not only in America but also outside of America and in the rban world, the complex urban and global communities, where much of the world's political, economic, and financial centers are based. Palin, without offense intended, seems more fit to lead a state with hunting-gathering as its primary concern, in addition to being suited to lead the most conservative society in a wold of change.
I can't believe this story about Palin's Ties is not getting more traction. SarahPalinExposed reported on this six days ago and it's only now appearing in the MSM. When Gibson interviews Palin this coming week, he better ask her all the tough questions.Add to that the speech she gave at her church before the Wasilla Master's Commission. So Alaska pipelines and the war in Iraq are all God's plan? This stuff is on video! You can't make i up!
My only problem with your coverage of Governor Palin is that she is not running for President (yet). She has been chosen as VP. You are taking the focus off the issues, instead of putting the focus on the real issues, as articulated by the Presidential candidates themselves. The reason Americans are so intrigued by Palin and thinks her selection is so great in because most American???s, working two or three jobs, worried about their failing health with no health insurance, and having to deal with a war that is draining the federal treasury have no clue what McCain or Obama are really saying. The Republicans are hoping that all of this "soap opera stuff" take the focus off the real issues. Loss of jobs, no health insurance, wars spinging up all around the globe, rising oil prices, rising bankruptcies, failing banks and only the Lord knows what is coming next! Based on what we know at this moment, the next President, will be Obama or McCain, not Biden or Palin. But if it comes down to VP's who we might have to live with as President, Biden wins hands down!
The Republicans don't want Mrs. Palin to talk because at this point, she has nothing to say, except to attack the opposition on issues that, from what I've heard from her so far, she really does not know the issues. Remember, she referred to herself as "a pit bull with lip stick". Pit bull attack without giving it much thought and I hope that she gives her own statement some serious thought, before all of this "attacking other Americans" gets us all into deeper trouble! She seems to be too much of a talker and not a thinker. Leadership needs to be exceptional at both!
The Republicans cannot discuss the issues because their stand on the issues is the same as the current office holders. They want the discussion to be about her looks and all the other faux drama. But at the same time they want the public to buy off on the idea that this woman is just load with a wealth of pertinent experience. A total unknown and yet they scream that we are being unfair and judgemental in an effort to find out who she really is. For those who say Obama has been given a pass, they haven't done their own research. There has been plenty of digging and trying to uncover dirt on him as well.
Are you kidding? There is tons of dirt on Obama and that (as well as no executive experience) is why I am not voting for him. His background, all of those people he has associated with all his life tells me he has not integrity and lack of judgment. He is not getting my vote .
Calling all Proud Republicans:
Would you please tell us Democrats what you're so proud about by naming three programs of the Bush Administration you would like to see continued in the next administration.
Iron horse I think you are speaking of mr obama he is the one that is lacking pull your head out of the sand
obama has no experience pull your head out of the sand, got it ignorant horse im out got to go it was fun see you next time , the landslide is comming John and Sarah Rock
The media is not being negative about Sarah. It's unfortanate that the stories coming out about her are - due to the image McCain and his campaign want you to belive. Image is one thing - and as we are finding out - truth and reality is another! Palin did vote and ask for money for the BIG OIL bridge to nowhere. She also asked for and retained 27 million dollars in earmark funding, Sarah Palin left the tiny town where she served as mayor in debt - partly due a hockey rink that battled legal woes for years after she was gone! Sarah Palin lied about selling the jet on Ebay. It was sold privately to a wealthy BIG OIL business man and then she had the "courtesy" of flying on that same plane - not once - but FIVE times!!! McCain presented Sarah as a mother of 5 as one of her qualifications to be VP. So of course when her 17 daughter comes up pregnant - and her stance on policy is abstinence and removing sex education from schools - Sarah Palin did not have good judgement on that decision!! Now it seems that while the continuous strories drip- drip- drip about Sarah - don't complain when the truth is coming out and not the image the Republicans wanted us to believe! Afterall - wasn't it Sarah Palin that told Hillary Clinton to stop whining about how the press is treating her?!! Sarah Palin is not experienced, she is a smokescreen and distraction for McCain campaign. I think right now Leiberman and Bush's advisors are teaching her about foregin policy! Shouldn't a VP already know or come prepared armed with informaiton about our nation?! National economics and foreign policy? She is a woman - she should be respected. But Sarah Palin is no HIllary Clinton, she is no Vice President. Even the state senators in Alaska say - Sarah is not ready to be VP of the free world!! No way, no how, No McCain-Palin. Fire Bush and the Republicans!! ENOUGH!!!!
Ok! Let's get to the truth then, how much pork-barrel did Obama earmarked during this short career in the senate?
A big problem with the federal budget is that almost nobody knows where all the money is going; its easy to add earmarks and pork barrel spending and special interest giveaways when the people back home cant tell the difference. One of Sen. Barack Obama's major legislative accomplishments in the Senate, the The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006, brings transparency to federal spending. His legislation created the website http://www.federalspending.gov , a veritable "Google of the Federal Budget", where anyone can research every dollar to see where their tax money is actually going. The whole Federal Rathole is now online, for the first time ever, inviting scrutiny from whoever has the patience to slog through it all. You dont have to be a CPA to realize that this does more in the long run to control wasteful federal spending than all the speeches Bush, Bush, Reagan, Ford, and Nixon ever gave on the subject, put together.
Neo, get through the smoke screen and answer my short question, how much did Obama pork barrel in his short career in the senate? If Yeswecan, whatever, is using it as a debate subject then let's get to it and let the people see both sides..... I thought you would be more honest than this!!!
I do not have the figures , but somehow I feel that you do. Since you are asking, I suspect that it;s more than McCain's. Tell me. But neither man has been immune to bringing home some bacon to their constituents I bet. The good news is that both are committed to reaching across the aisle to curb future abuses. Not really a issue of distinction between them.
Right on, hence, the issue is who'd really do the right thing for America.? Judging by facts and history of the candidates, McCain most likely will. Obama would be a big question mark. Your call who you vote for... Me?... I am not a gambling man when it comes to national security.
But I sense your friend McCain is. Look at his 'risky' pick for VP. A real roll of the dice...
hahaha... maybe, but I sensed that McCain's VP would be kicking asses, and Obama's would be kissing them... I don't know about you, but me? I would be kicking, not kissing
rab015... First let me ask: Why would Palin be more qualified if she only represented a town with a population of close to 6,000 (now around 9,00) and now a state of about 670,000 and who holds beliefs at odd with the lage, diverse, and complex United States of America? Does it make her more qualified on the basis of being mayor of a much smaller area than Chicago and even smaller than the state of Ill.? Does America's values in the 21st century better represented by a small-town social cosnervative who has little understanding of the complex workings of the international system? Will Obama's urban experiences be better suited to help address America's security, energy, health care, and diplomatic challenges than a Palin who brings small-town principles and who is driven more by emotions?
You're absolutely right. In the name of freedom, democracy and all that jazz, maybe we need 50 separate governments all doing their own thing so those darn Alaskans wouldn't impose their bizarre conservative ways on you ( and likewise they could give a rip what you think ). Think about it. If you truly believe in the freedom to CHOOSE you wouldn't support a monolithic system that projects a singular ruleset over such a diverse country. Wouldn't it be GREAT if Alaskans could be Alaskans and do whatever the hell they wanted without YOUR input and Californians could do their thing too? Everyone would have a place to go instead of being so miserable under the present system. This whole liberal / conservative thing and "unifying" the country is BS. I would like a divorce, thank you very much.
I'm not sure that we can assume that Alaskans would want to impose all conservative approaches on themselves, either. After all, when 49% of the Alaskan electorate voted for Palin in 2006, 41% voted for her Democratic opponent, and 10% voted for her Independent opponent. So, a key part of being a governmental executive is doing the best you can for as many people as you can, especially when a slim majority of voters did not vote for you.
Your dodging my point, which is that the LARGER the government and the MORE people you try to impose control over then the LESS freedom they all have. Democracy is better served when the world has multitudinous sovereign states making their own local rulesets. Individual votes carry more weight when the locality is small. The United States would be a much happier place if Jesus-land had no jurisdiction over gay California and vice-versa ( just for example ). I'm totally FOR letting Californians and New Yorkers abort their kids, have gay marriage, raise their own taxes and let in all the illegal aliens they want. But I'm also FOR the right of everyone else to shut that crap out. I just want people to be left alone in their own communities if they CHOOSE to be without some over-arching bullcrap being pontificated from Washington.
I agree with your first sentence, to a point, but there also are important reasons for having a United States of America. First and foremost is military and economic defense. Even if you're from California or New York, let alone North Dakota or Rhode Island, you wouldn't want to be on your own in the world, taking on Russia, China, or al Qaeda. Second, certain problems that require major funding are addressed more effectively on a larger scale. For example, take special-needs children, whom Gov. Palin championed in her acceptance speech. Educating those kids takes a ton of money, and Congress has mandated that ALL states educate those kids (and gives a small percentage of the money needed to do so, but that's a different discussion). If there was no national mandate to do so, and your state freely chose to allocate state funds to seriously educate those kids as best as possible, but your neighboring states freely chose to just let them sink or swim in the regular classroom (which is much cheaper to do), can you imagine how many parents with special-needs kids would freely move to your state, increasing your state's financial burden?
