Iron Horse...why is Obama more qualified to be president than Palin to be VP?

    • Posted By: ShawnTX @ 09/07/2008 6:31:52 PM

Lets start with the simple answer of INTELLIGENCE. We just went through eight horrible years of someone who is unqualified in the intelligence dept and you see what that wrought. I take a Harvard Law grad over a freaking journalism grad from university of Idaho any damn day.

Responsible, rational voters need to stop asking who the real Barack Obama is if he has been in the public eye campaigning for almost 2 years. Either those voters are blind to reality and prefer to be guided by ignorance and emotions, or they have been too busy to pay attention no matter how long Barack Obama has ben in the public square. Get up and do your researching, and stop complaining.
Sarah Palin is entirely new to the national scene, so it is imperative that the media do their work to help voters make informed choices. We don't want to be blinded by ignorance and select only those who share our fantasies. I know those who may prefer to vote for Palin are voters driven by passions about social issues, not issues that matter to America at large.

Any one who lies in there first ever press conference as a VP is suspect: The lie about the "Bridge to Nowhere." The lies about selling the "luxury plane on Ebay, at a profit, when the truth is: it was sold to the former governor - at a loss. The lies about rejecting earmarks, the list goes on. And remember, this was her first day

Re: unsubstantiated comments about Senators Obama and Biden:

What are you referring to when you say that Obama did not know whether to vote 'Yes" or "No" ?

Most likely, you are referring to the "Present" votes that all senators choose to make in the Senate for specific reasons.

Sen. Obama voted in excess of 4,000 times as Yes or NO, compared to a hundred or so 'Presents'. His voting record is extremely and consistently diligent.

Please explain your comments about Senator Joe Biden's foreign policies. Which ones do you feel he made mistakes on? As Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee, Senator Biden is accepted on on both sides as the leading senator in the area of Foreign Policy with decades of experience.

Which decisions did he make which you feel were wrong?

I for one applaud the new republican stance on supporting out-of-wedlock pregnant girls. Just a few months ago, O'Reilly attacked the Spears family for their moral failure in "allowing' a teen pregnancy, but now he fully supports the Palins on the same issue. It shows great courage that conservatives can now admit that their previous holier-than-thou attitude was wrong and that all moral issues are not so black and white as they once depicted them to be.

You conveniently forget to mention that Palin's daughter will be marry soon to the father of the child!

And isn't it refreshing that good old shotgun weddings are back in style?

Had she taught her daughter about sex education rather than abstinence she might not be in a position to have a shot gun wedding. If Bill O thinks it's just great & all the rest of the far right then it's fine for everyone & they can keep their holier than tho opinions to themselves.

    • Posted By: jamied29 @ 09/07/2008 4:31:40 PM

Mr. O'Reilly does not speak for the Republican party!! Are you saying that the Democratic party supports teen pregnancy? I think that it is courageous that she did not kill her baby and I am thankful that she has a family that loves and supports her!! No one has a right to criticize this young girl on either side!

While John McCain's four-star Admiral father ensured him a prized appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, his performance - 894th out of 899 cadets in his class - does not attest to diligent effort, whereas Barack Obama (from a broken home, on food stamps) won competitive academic scholarships to Harvard, which he proved himself worthy of by graduating Magna *** Laude ("With Highest Honors").  Its been a long time since any politicians of either party could talk convincingly about "The American Dream", but Barack Obama can, because he lived it.  Without handouts, family patronage, or inheritence, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps from the Chicago ghetto through his own hard work, enterprise, and initiative to become President of the Harvard Law Review, one of the most prestigious scholarly legal journals in the country.  Which President is more likely to make a difference in the lives of people, and motivate them with initiative to best achieve their individual God-given potential?

  • Posted By: Iron Horse @ 09/07/2008 6:20:37 PM

Those who think Palin is qualified to lead are totally out of their element and in need of therapy. Someone who suddenly finds herself rehearsing, rather than being ready, on foreign policy and other issues of significance to this most complex, superpowe nation is the remotest person from being qualified. After all, America is no small-town (and small-towns and their valuesare fast disappearing in the midst of rapid urbanization in the face of the expanding global economy), and what best suits the nation is a person who understands the complexities of the global community, a world of over 6 billion humans with complex and varying cultures.
Obama, as a person representing diverse cultures(after all, the world is so diverse that a small-town Palin will never be able to comprehend) is better qualified to meet the challenges of the 21st global community. Anyone who disagrees should feel free to do so, but to insist that Palin is more qualified just reflects our utter ignorance of and disregard of the interconnected, information-age world. A governor of a 670,000-population state is too unqualified to lead a nation of over 300 million people of diverse, complex backgrounds.

OK, Boys and girls ??? It's quiz time!!
Of the last 5 Republican presidents - name which one(s) had budget deficits throughout their terms? (Even when Republicans held congress as well...
And for the bonus round, which one(s) actually left the federal government larger than he/they found it?

    Jeopardy theme music......

Actually the answer to both questions is all of them. So much for Republican promises of small government and fiscal responsibility. Instead of tax and spend we got borrow and spend. Expect more of the same with McCain.
And so,how did we get the money to cover the deficits and increased spending for the ever-larger government? Did we increase revenues and responsibly pay our way? No, we did not. We put it all on the ol' VISA card. Yep, we borrowed a ton of money from our bestest buddies: China and Saudi Arabia, etc. and plan to leave this enormous tab to our kids. And now we get to divert hundreds of billions of dollars a year to our bestest buddies to service the debt. Money that could have spent at home repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure, for example. Remember the Clinton surpluses???

    • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/07/2008 5:31:08 PM

Clinton had a budget surplus for ONE year and it didn't make a dent in the debt. Until the US gives up its dream of global EMPIRE and adopt protectionist ( as opposed to Globalist ) trade policies, we'll never master our debt. Neither McCain NOR Obama are promising that.

      • Posted By: neos @ 09/07/2008 5:43:44 PM

Wrong. The last three years of his presidency, some claim four, were surpluses and we actually paid down the debt. In this election truth matters.
Here is a link to confirm this.
        http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/09/27/clinton.surplus/

        • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/07/2008 5:49:10 PM

LOL we've NEVER been out of DEBT! HAHAHAHAHAHA the DEFICIT is the annual budgetary shortfall, the DEBT is what we OWE other nations. Please do some research next time please.

          • Posted By: Marcus CA @ 09/07/2008 6:05:23 PM

There is a difference between paying off a debt (which you describe) and paying down a debt (which neos had written).

            • Posted By: neos @ 09/07/2008 6:20:22 PM

Thank you, Marcus. I suspect he didn't misunderstand. Most likely a deliberate attempt at smear tactics..

    • Posted By: Marcus CA @ 09/07/2008 5:08:34 PM

It's amazing how Republicans wave the banner of being pro-family, yet have hoisted trillions of dollars of debt on our kids and theirs. This fiscal year, the federal government actually posted a $100 billion SURPLUS --- if you remove the nearly $500 billion we had to waste on paying interest on our national debt. Remember that of our $9.5 trillion debt, $7.5 trillion of it came from the Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43 adminnstrations.

Is Palin the real savior sent to us? Maybe John McCain and his Swiftboaters need to look again at their savior issues. Is she really Christian or just pretending to be?

  • Posted By: lisaooo @ 09/07/2008 5:45:28 PM

If Barack or Michelle Obama had been a member of the Illinois Independence Party, the Republicans would be calling them Communists and Traitors and demanding that they step down from the election. If Barack Obama had considered placing a once small town mayor on his ticket, they would have called it ridiculous (oh wait, Karl Rove already did this with regard to Tim Kaine, who was the mayor of way bigger Richmond, see the You Tube of this, it's comical and scary). If Sarah Palin had spent a few years after college working to help and organize community churches after college, they would have said oh how saintly and in touch with the common people. But wait, Palin took 6 years to get out of a lame college so she had no time for this. And oh wait it was black churches and not white churches, so they don't like that. If there was an election where the Democrats had the only veteran and war hero running, they would have dismissed that and attacked his credibility. Oh wait, that did happen with John Kerry when he was "the only one who actually faught for us" in 2000. The hypocracy of Republicans is scary. But Americans are partly to blame for not paying attention and calling them on it. Same goes with allowing them to hold a convention where all they did was spew hate and divisiveness and generalities with no basis, and play to the least common denominator. I mean this is the best we can do? When there are such serious issues facing our Nation. Palin is so limited, so narrow in her thinking, so bullish, that she reminds me of Cheney. We can do better. This is a Nation of the brilliant and talented people. Let's get someone where their talent is not putting people down cleverly.

    • Posted By: jblackwell88 @ 09/07/2008 6:13:07 PM

Not really. Independence is a good thing.

  • Posted By: mexed @ 09/07/2008 6:12:06 PM

Does non ponder things much. A pipeline is a God's will. I'm a person who daily ponders my faith and God's will in my life. I am not impressed that Palin somehow knows that God wills a pipeline. I also think it might help if she pondered a little more about all sorts of things...and about God's will. I am highly suspicious of those who easily speak of knowing God's will. I am greatly concerned about a possible president not poderiing much. In fact, I am terrified by it. We have had 8 years of a president who "shot from the hip," doesn't seem to be able to focus, We do not need more of the same no matter how bright and crisp she seems. I have no confidence in the Republican ticket and it has nothing to do with how flashy or young, woman or black, either candidate is. I want substance. She's busy and a hard worker but I don't believe it is God's will for her to be president. She may believe it. I don't. And, not matter what God wants, we will elect whomever we wish to elect. Does I don't believe the I, II, Korean, or Iraq wars were God's will. They were willed by man and fought by man.

Sara Palin is being pawned off as America's GREAT WHITE HOPE. Think about it you have Obama who the presss has dogged and who has been made to explain himself to the the nation for the last 19 months, and there have been some outlets such as Faux news that would have dug up his mother and asked her questions if it was possible. In contrast you have Sara new on the scene who is surrounded by a cone of silence and the mainstream press is Dead Silent.

Man America is just freaking amazing!

Sarah Palin???s belief that the war in Iraq is part of God???s plan introduces a whole new concept in American foreign policy. - namely we can fight any war we wish provided that we can prove that these wars are part of God???s plan

Since Palin is an expert on Russia, I wonder how she would feel if Russia adopted her beliefs. The Russian Orthodox Church has made a great come-back in Russia, so with just a nod from the Russian Orthodox, Russia???s war with Georgia is justified because it???s part of God???s plan Presumably if Palin gets an OK from God, we???ll launch a war with Russia as well, complete with nuclear weapons.

Way to go, Palin!!! Way to go, McCain !!! John Wayne and the OK Corral in the nuclear age!!!
We may get Armageddon after all - only I should warn Palin that she might not get chosen for the Rapture.

"McCAIN / PALIN / GOP" HYPOCRISY #7: THE "PLANE SALE ON EBAY" LIES
Sarah Palin insinuated she sold state plane on EBay for a profit, and more recently McCain repeated it as a fact that the plane was actually sold on EBay for a profit. That lie has now been debunked, and the good Christian Sarah Palin has no shame that she was caught in another lie. The plane could not sell on EBay so it was taken down and sold "privately for a lost".

    • Posted By: Drewdude1229 @ 09/07/2008 3:38:45 AM

Go back and look at her speach again perusing, she never said she sold it, she only claimed to put it on Ebay. I guess it was like Obama claiming he is the change canidate and then picking Biden a 36 year senate vet as his VP and then going on stage in Colorado spewing out old Democratic dogma last heard during the Clinton years. Yeah, change you can believe in. HAHAHAHAHA

        Hi "Drewdude1229"

Please learn to read before you start correcting others. And while you are learning to read, start with the Biblical passage from Matthew 7:3-5.

Now go back and read exactly what I said and you will see that I use the word "INSINUATE". That is because this is what Sarah did. She did not state it absolutely, she INSINUATED the plane was sold on EBay. Now it was John McCain who came behind her and stated in absolute terms that the plane was sold on EBAY for a profit. But CNN has reported the plane was sold off EBAY and for a lost of $600,000.00.

Of course SP did not claim to sell the plane on E-Bay, IT WAS MCCAIN THAT SAID IT. And McCain said she made a profit doing so. WRONG ! She got $300,000 less than Alaska paid for it. So much for fiscal responsibility from the Gov.
