I wish the foam-at-the-mouth attack dogs of the Obama-Biden faction of the Democratic Party would stop and look at the substance of this woman instead of viciously denigrating her. While I normally fashion myself a Democrat, and thus don't like Sarah Palin's social policies, I do like her economic policies.

I have tried to take an open look at her. What I see is an elected official who doesn't go out of her way to push her social policies and who makes Herculean efforts to deliver good economic policy for her constituents. I don't like everything about her, but bottome line, I like her and trust that she will do her best to deliver economically for the American people. And it's funny, but when people feel safe economically, then tend to behave in a more socially progressive way.

I want you to look at her substance also. You have a woman who use to be a member of the AIP, it tells you alot about her.

      • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/07/2008 5:14:07 PM

As I understand it, that's not correct. Her husband has been a member but she has not.

      • Posted By: All4America @ 09/07/2008 12:38:47 PM

This statement is false. Palin was never a member of the AIP. Check your facts before making your post.

      • Posted By: thinkingoutsidethebox @ 09/07/2008 12:13:34 PM

Yes, that is very true. Can you imagine if that was Obama who was a member of this AIP party?

    • Posted By: thinkingoutsidethebox @ 09/07/2008 12:05:08 PM

That is why the GOP wanted her, to get people like you to forget that she will take away freedoms from Americans and they will be "in love" with her economic policies. IF YOU DON'T HAVE RIGHTS THEN YOU MIGHT AS WELL NOT HAVE ANYTHING!!!!!

  • Posted By: Paula_SA @ 09/07/2008 3:57:41 PM

What Palin believes is that she can resurrect the GOP´s image. She gotta be kidding. She is already very divisive to the entire nation !!! END OF STORY. pfft !!! She makes Obama suddenly look so overqualified.

    • Posted By: actionrunner @ 09/07/2008 4:24:58 PM

Over qualified? Do real leaders vote "present" 150 times instead of taking a stands on issues? What "change" did Obama accomplish in the IL Senate? What "change" did he accomplish in the US Senate? What makes you think that this qualified senator will now suddenly start to "change" the status quo in Washington when he votes with his fellow Democrats 95% of the time and has no record of producing change?

      • Posted By: Heartlight3 @ 09/07/2008 5:13:51 PM

"Divisive" is only a bad thing if you are a Democrat and think the country works better if it is untied. Republicans think divisive is good because they think that ensures that they will win.

    • Posted By: jamied29 @ 09/07/2008 4:21:46 PM

Hopefully she will be the end of this story and be living in Washington!! And...there is nothing that could make Obama look "overqualified". What she makes him look like is SCARED!!!

Sarah Palin has said that she has not paid attention to Iraq, and that she doesn't know what the duties of a VP are. She will not talk to the news media and is being shielded from reporters by the McCain campaign. She is running for the 2nd highest job in the land, and therefore should be interviewed for that job. If she cannot stand on her own two feet with the press, how in the world is she ready to be a VP? Putting country first means putting the national interest first, and Americans have a right to hear from her on the issues--not answers read from a speech or a script written for her by Bush operatives, but answers that flow from her own knowledge and experience. Let's see how she holds up on "Meet The Press" or "Hardball," though I doubt she'll ever make an appearance on either of them. That would expose how little grasp of the issues she really has, and how extreme her views are,. which the Republican Party is intent on concealing.

    To Obamamaniacs,

I wonder why you foolish folks are so mad at Sarah Palin. You folks with the help of the liberal establishment media were very successful to knock Hillary out of the nominating process. Do you folks really believe in democracy the way the democratic party hecks and the libera establishment media has treated Hillary?

As you all know who has selected the chosen one, Obama, to be the nominee of the democratic party. It is a disgrace to the DNC to claim that they are the party where every vote counts!!. Every vote really counts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now, you folks are so mad why the McCain campaign does not allow her to be interviewed by the liiberal media. You had seen over the last couple of days how mad they were. Because McCain team has completely flummoxed them and cann't get it over how the team has managed to keep the vetting process.

Where in the world have you found out the idea that she has to be vetted by the liberal establishment media before getting any party's nomination.

You foolish folks claim that the chosen ONE went through this vetting process over the last one and a half years. If that is the case, how come nobody in the media bothers to ask about his past association? After a long time, ABC's George dares to ask that simple question and the chose ONE was very mad why he had asked that question.

Over the years they had many debates. How come nobody asks him about abortion? Once someone finally asked that question and his answer was above my pay grade.

According to you foolish folks, that's called a thoroug vetting process. As you all know that all the democratic candidates did not want to debate sponsored by the FOX news. Are they scared to death?

Finally, the chosen ONE appeared on the Bill O'Reilly show and he had to admit that the surge succeeded beyond expectation. I wonder whose expectations?

So far, he was interrogated by the Fox News and at Saddlebeck, the chosen ONE was completely out of sync.

You foolish folks thought that we the American folks do not understand how the biased press has been treating the chosen ONE.

There are so many things to say about your fraud candidate, the chosen ONE.

Go McCain-Palin. This team will win in landslides in November election and you folks just have to lick your wounds for many years to come.

Curiousobserver, you observe well. The left is angery because they did not think the conservatives were smart enough to catch on to them and their plans for America. They under estimated us, and are upset that we turned out to be smarter than the average bear. The symbol of each party is very telling; an elephant has a long memory, and the jackass is very stubborn. Like kids, the left doesn't like it when they don't get their way, and react with temper tantrams. They scream that Sarah Palin doesn't appreciate the media concentrating on every little minute detail of her life in an attempt to discredit her; and claim it is the media's "obligation" to inform, which it is, but why is it that a certain area of media information is always negative? But they remain un-biased? Yeah, and we remain un-convinced. How many of us would wnat our private lives spread all over the front page, or announced on the evening news> Even though we expect it to happen once we become a public figure, we still would not like it. Thats human nature. Even people in the media have private lives, so would they want them publisized? Te media has a responsiblity to report, but not to be judgemental. Sarah Palin is human, but she is, also, an amazing politican, so she will do a fantastic job as VP if given the opportunity.

McCain/Palin insult and belittle community organizers, groups like:
    Habitat for Humanity
    The Red Cross
    Hospice
    March of Dimes
Salvation Army (Like the bell ringers for instance)
    Easter Seals
    Volunteer Fire and rescue personel
    Goodwill
    Helping Hands
    Coastal Cleanup
    Meals on Wheels
And, Oh, yeh....All those Faith based initiatives.
Do you want a president that has so little respect for service work?
P.S. All the work they do, is work the government does not have to do or pay for.

The records show that McCain voted 90% times with Bush. How can people hope that things will change should McSame be elected President.
Palin? She doesn't have enough experience to serve as a VP? Do we really want an ill-tempered, grudge holding person stepping on everyones feet that doesn't agree with her in the White House?

    • Posted By: SEA Observer @ 09/07/2008 4:34:53 PM

Do you ask the same critical questions with Obama: His record shows he is the most Liberal senator. He doesn't know how to vote "Yes" or "No" on a bunch of issues. How could American vote into office such an in-decisive individual?

Biden, a good old politician who has been wrong on every foreign policy matter in the past 20yrs. What changes will he bring to the table? Should we trust a guy that has been wrong so many times with running the country?

      • Posted By: Heartlight3 @ 09/07/2008 5:08:22 PM

We have already had someone in the white house for 8 years that fires career politicians and intstalls his loyal friends in high positions. How has that been working for us?

All of this drives the leftist and anti-American crowd mad. Sarah Palin is the real deal. Young, refreshing, committed wife, mother, American citizen. She is the real deal when it comes to the change that is so much needed in American politics, particularly in Washington. John McCain must be congratulated for vetting her, seeing this, and putting her on the national stage.

She represents in fact, and in her own actions, what so many others (including Obama and the entrenched Biden) only talk about, and then go on with business as usual.

Obama, in his own actions and positions as a State Senator (voted merely present so many time in the State Senate, but voted no defending the Born Alive Abortion Protection Act there), in his own actions and positions as a US Senator (spent only 144 days on the job before beginning his campaign for the President, but in those short days was recognized as the Senator with the furthest left record), and particularly in his own willful associations of long standing with hateful, racists individuals like Jeremiah Wright (who preached 'Not God bless American, No, No, No, God Damn America!) to Obama and his children, and with the likes of Bill Ayers, the unrepentant, arrogant, and militantly anti-American political connection where Obama kicked off his own political career, who bombed the US Pentagon, the US Capitol, and NY City Police Headquarters and then claimed in an interview published on 9/11 that his only regreet was that he had not done enough...with such actions and such associations (to mention Tony Rezkco, Phleager, and others), Obama has proven that his change is precisely the type we do not want or need in Washington.

First of all, a pit bull makes a great general, but a terrible federal executive. Pit bulls rip people to shreds with the slightest provocation. A pit bull would launch a military attack on Iran for how it is handling its nuclear program. A pit bull would launch an attack against Russia for invading Russia. If Palin wants to be a patriotic pit bull, she should go to West Point, not Washington. Secondly, when Palin talks about how a mayor is a community organizer with responsibility, she should remember that the audience for her acceptance speech was more than twice the size of Wasilla's entire population. Obama probably dealt with more people as an organizer than Palin did as mayor.

Palin's Pastor: God "Is Gonna Strike Out His Hand Against" America
    ------------------------

On July 20, 2008, the pastor of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's home church, Larry Kroon, delivered a sermon called....

"Sin Is Personal To God" Kroon, the senior pastor of the non-denominational Wasilla Bible Church in Wasilla, Alaska, used the book of Zephanaiah as his reference point for discussing "that great day of the Lord when God will finally BRING CLOSURE TO HUMAN HISTORY... A DAY OF WRATH." According to Kroon,...

"All things and All people" are going to Bare the brunt of God's "Intense ANGER." "There's anger with God," he proclaimed. "He takes sin personal."
    -------------------------

BIG NOTE: Palin's Pastor, Larry Kroon, warns "God is Gonna Strike Out His Hand Against America"

NOTE: Kroon placed Zephaniah in a modern context, warning that the sinful habits of Americans would invite the wrath of God. "And if Zephaniah were here today," Kroon bellowed, "he'd be saying, 'Listen, [God] is gonna deal with all the inhabitants of the earth.

He "GOD is Gonna Strike Out His hand AGAINST, YES, Wasilla; and Alaska; and the United States of America"

NOTE: "There's No EXCEPTIONS HERE -- THERES NONE AT ALL.'"

Kroon's sermon, which I first reported on my blog and at The Nation's Campaign Matters blog, can be heard by clicking the play button on the player below:

While Kroon has cautioned his parishioners against the mass marketed End Times prophecies of Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye, he has nonetheless invoked doomsday scenarios that mirror those on the pages of Lindsey and LaHaye's bestselling tracts.

"It's so very possible that God, instead of responding by granting spiritual renewal and sustained prosperity," Kroon said in a sermon on July 13, 2008, "could just as easily...it's conceivable that He could just as easily, for example, raise up a revived, prosperous and powerful Communist Russia with a web of alliances across the Middle East. And our gas pumps would go dry. The dollar would collapse. And the markets would crash. The kayak could go upside down. And it could happen in a matter of weeks. That could happen. It could happen by this fall."

Palin is a full of it as a woman, I now men who are more concerned about women's rights than she is. She is so out the mainstream of most women think. She is an anti-choice, anti-abstience, anti-environmental, power hungry fraud. She is more dangerous than McCain.

    ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah
since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing
special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our
children have attended the same schools. Her father was
my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I
attended more City Council meetings during her
administration than about 99% of the residents of the
    city.
    CLAIM VS FACT

*"Hockey mom": true for a few years

*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in
    elementary school, not since

    *"NRA supporter": absolutely true

*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT
vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to
employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this
    because it was unconstitutional) .

*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing
    as Governor to promote it.

*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's
syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special
legislative session on some pro-life legislation

*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students
than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more
residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative
experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a
city administrator to run town of about 5,000.

    *political maverick: not at all

    *gutsy: absolutely!

*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not
    good at explaining actions.

*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no

*"a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of
big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-
    drilling off-shore and in ANWR.

*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!

*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and
park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or
storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th
    century standards.

*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses,
    increased tax burden on residents

*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion
of city government in Wasilla's history.

*pro-labor/pro- union. No. Just because her husband
works union doesn't make her pro-labor. I have seen
nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-
    union.

I expect more from someone who gets paid to write. Try and hold the disdain from your voice for a moment so we can getsome facts.

    "About the fiscal conservative lies"

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn't even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.
In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs.

OK, Boys and Girls - it's quiz time!
Of the last 5 Republican presidents name which one(s) had budget deficits throughout their terms? (Even when Republicans held congress as well...
And for the bonus round, which one(s) actually left the federal government large than he/they found it?

    Jeopordy theme music......

Actually the answer to both questions is all of them. So much for Republican promises of small government and fiscal responsibility. Instead of tax and spend we got borrow and spend. Expect more of the same with McCain.
And so,how did we get the money to cover the deficits and increased spending for the ever-larger government? Did we increase revenues and responsibly pay our way? No, we did not. We put it all on the ol' VISA card. Yep we borrowed a ton of money from our bestest buddies: China and Saudi Arabia, etc. and plan to leave this enormous tab to our kids. And now we get to divert hundreds of billions of dollars a year to our bestest buddies to service the debt. Money that could have spent at home repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure, for example.
Now, boys and girls , can you say surplus? President Clinton could.

Why did you gloss over the book banning scandal? Let me fill you in since you didn't do much research on this one Howard. When Mayor Palin wanted books banned the Librarian refused. That lead Mayor Palin to fire her. The town folk were not happy with this and began a recall petition. Mayor Palin backed down, the Lbrarian kept her job. That reeks of Facism, I do NOT want a christian end times fundamentalist to be anywhere near the button
