Palin is suppose to shore up the religous right? Give me a break!! IShe says she became a christian at the age of 12 in the Assembly of God church. Then why was she pregnant before she was married to her husband?? And why is her unmarried pregnant daughter sitting on the first row of the convention. And her sister has been divorced twice. This makes the religious right look NUTS. Rush Limbaugh (reformed drug addict) approves of it all though. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!.

The McCain camp has a very LONG way to go to bring this gal up to speed on world events and American policy problem-solving. They do not have my vote of confidence that this will happen and I am one of the independent voters whose votes they need.

Alaska is a unique state with unique problems. It is very different even when compared to Montana and Wyoming.

Sara may be a good choice for a state that has one foot in the early 1900's but she is not for the technical, industrial, highly poulated southern 49 states. Her experience does not relate to the heavily populated cities and states of the south and it's myriad of economic and social problems. Her experience isn't even close to representing and dealing with the world with the complexities of military, social, economic problems that we have. The fact that she possesses Limbugh-Rove qualities is a big deduct in my eyes. Vicious attack politics based on lies and facts taken out of context are not admirable qualities unless you plan to join the roller derby or a mudwrestling contest.

Let us just say that she is an attractive and talented woman. Competent in her niche but not experienced or knowledgeable enough to even consider leading the free world. Yes, nice speech at the RNC but virtually anyone who can read a prepared speech from a teleprompter.

    I rest my case.

I wish Sarah well but I do not wish her to be the next president of America.

The reporters who wrote this article, forgot to ask a crucial question. Does Palin believe in the Rapture? For the uninformed, many evangelicals believe that the end of the world is at hand. However, just before the end of the world. Jesus will sweep up all the true believers into the Kingdom of Heaven, leaving the unbelievers and homosexuals to burn to a crispy crisp along with the world.

While we could insist that a candidates private religious beliefs are private (except in the case of Barack Obama), Palin and her followers insist on tearing down the wall that separates church from state and turning the country into a sort of fundamentalist theocracy, so the Rapture becomes an important part of public deate.

First if all, if a vice presidential candidate believes in the Raputre, she does not have to do anything to stop global warming. When the holocaust generated by greenhouses gases occurs - and it may, if the permafrost in Siberia melts - Palin and her fellow believers will be rescued.

In addition, if such a candidate does not have to worry about war in the Middle East. In fact, a war in the Middle East will drigger Armageddon. Therefore, a nuclear strike on Iran, which might generate such a war is highly desirable if one counts on Jesus??? second coming as a way to solve the $ 9 trillion national debt.

In terms dealing with Russia, if we believe in the Raputer, we really should not shrink from using nuclear weapons to solve disputes over Georgia, the Ukraine, or Poland. Once again, Jesus will come to the rescue of the true and Holy believers.

So Palin???s of the Raputre are important. As for me, I???m sick and tired of a ???faith based presidency???. That???s what we???ve had for the last 8 years. I do not want 4 more years of the same thing. McCain can babble all he wants to about the ???change??? he???s going to bring about, but choosing a religious fanatic as his running mate is not my idea of change.

If we value our lives or our planet, we???d better make sure to give Obama and his Democratic allies
an overwhelming victory - otherwise, the election of 2008 may be our last. I do not want anyone who believes in the Raputre anywhere near the infamous red button.

What a horrible article. Palin "hired friends" and "punished her enemies"? What...are you supposed to reward your enemies and punish your friends? Her "friends" (who happened to be campaign bosses and experts in their fields) that were "assigned" (aka HIRED or APPOINTED) to positions were also qualified for those positions. The fact that Palin knew them makes sense. If she had not known them, people would criticize her for "not properly vetting them" like the Dems are doing now. As for favoring the "Bridge to Nowhere", a $270 million influx into a state is great! Palin was "for" the money but ultimately opposed how it being allocated to friends of the former Senator. The money was already in Alaskan coffers, and you can't give it back (a DEADLY political move especially when you state has already LEGALLY received the funds. Palin used the money for statewide repair projects.

Oh...and the Republican model DOES work. Read your history. The founding fathers of this country saw "Democrats" as rabblerousers who governed based on the "mob mentality". Because of this, they wanted to make it clear that The United States of America was distinguished as a "Representative Republic" (aka "Constitutional Republic") and NOT a "Democracy". If our schools would teach these facts, we'd all be better for it.

Obama is FAR FAR FAR from reprieve. He has yet to explain his radical and criminal associations. He has yet to explain allegation his community party ties and instead attempted to SEQUESTER any available paperwork. He has repeatedly flip-flopped over what he believes (and this is well-documented). I'm so sick of hearing Obama start sentences with, "I've always said I was for (or against)......" and then discover on YouTube that he flip-flopped on his positions....AGAIN. Obama has spent half of his time in office campaigning, NOT WORKING.

Obama makes me sick. His socialist policies make me sick. And if Americans can't see that he intends on "taxing" everyone at the gas pumps by allowing higher gas prices (he quoted a tolerance of $7+) then taxing the hell out of oil companies, then America is under a voodoo spell. Tax cuts for the middle class my arss. The middle class spend more on gas and oil than anyone else. Add $3 to every gallon of gas the middle class pays for and there's you "universal health care" money. What a crock. Are Americans going to despise Bush so much that we're willing to sell our souls for false promises of salvation?

If Americans want to fix the economy, spend more. Duh.

Your grasping at straws. Obama has been questioned and found not guilty. You once again try with Rezko but you don't question the Clintons who received money from Rezko. Why don't you question McCain for his S&L scandal. The only reason he got away with it was because he blabbed on his former friends. He was known to be with mafioso's and other kinds. At least when asked, Obama answered and nothing was found. When McCain was asked about his dealings with the S&L scandal, he cried and said this is worst than when I was a P.O.W.

ChinnyChinChin....he has in NO WAY been absolved of illegal activity. The Chicago House of Cards is tumbling down. If Rezko truly accepts a Witness Protection deal, Hussein is done, and MicHELLe is also in danger. She was a prominent figure in the Hospital Scam, Rezko has been found guilty of.

Thugs and terrorists have no place in our nations highest office. And Hussein is a thug wannabe.

In fact, if you actually knew your history, you would realize that the party that most represents the ideals of the Republicans of yore is the Democratic Party. Stop being a Republican Kool-Aid drinker and learn the issues and the REAL positions of the candidates.

Until recently, I worked in the Palin Administration in an unappointed non-political position and left to get away from the lack of leadership in the state. As someone with a degree in economics and management,, I found that the legislature has had to force her through budget measures to manage the executive branch because she cannot or will not do it. While being good at grand gestures and sound bites, she has shown herself to be uninterested in government. Since arriving she has focused exclusivly on oil and gas issues leaving the rest of the government floundering. While Senator McCain has many good traits this selection is a poor one made for what appears to be crass political reasons. The election of Ms. Palin to VP while being good for Alaska would be, unfortunately, a large mistake for our country.

McCain said in an interview that he will only hire rich people to be in his cabinet. That way they can only be paid one dollar a year. He fail to mention that they are also his lobbyist and one of them is with Shell oil company. McCain must think that America is that dumb.

  • Posted By: maq1 @ 09/07/2008 11:24:38 AM

I like Palin and McCain as people, but sadly they stand for a party that has violated conservative principles, given in to cronyism, and governed incompetantly. Why?? because 8 years in power makes you drunk on power, low on accountability and you think you can get away with anything. At least until the American public gets sick of it and kicks you out, which is what needs to happen with Bush-McCain era Republicans.

I am all about working hard and earning your keep. The Government should not waste our money and it can't solve all our problems. but why is it that we need to spend boat loads of American tax dollars on a bad idea war of choice in Iraq? Why is there $11 Billion of unaccounted for funds spent on contractors like Halliburton and KBR? Why no accountability? How can we be led into a bad idea expensive as heck war without following where our money is spent?? The only sane conclusion is that Republicans don't care how the money is spent when it goes into the pockets of their buddies at Halliburton and KBR.

I'm all about socially conservative values. But why is it that we let Republican politicians get away with stuffing the pockets of their buddies without holding them to account? Do we really let politicians get away with greed as long as they are anti-abortion? Sounds like we social conservatives are being duped. The way the Republicans run the country has been so incredibly unChristian its unbelievable.

Throw the bums out. If we don't, we're just asking to be taken advantage of. The abuse of power comes as no surprise. 12 years in the White House for the Republicans is a recipe for moral and ethical disaster.

She is so out of touch with the rest of the nation, that she up until now has hardly even seen any of the lower 49 other then when she attended college. People need to see past all the things we have in common with her, and think about how she would impact this country. I fear for this country if McCain wins. I will pray, for Gods will.

The issue isn't even Palin. With the number of questionable activities now attributed to Palin's administrations of both her city of 6000(at the time she was mayer) and the State of Alaska (pop. just about half a million) the major issue now is McCain's decision making ability. Obvious, like the general republican electorate, McCain was simply bowled over by her personality (as snarky as his, evidently). Did he knowingly choose a running mate who took over a town with 0 debt and left it 22000 in debt while redecorating the mayors offices numerous times, tried to fire the librarian because she would not burn books, and was finally forced to hire a city administrator to do the job she should have been doing (yes, Sarah, being mayor does require responsibility, too bad you couldn't handle it.)? Did he knowingly choose a running mate who hired a public relations team to get earmarks from the federal government? Did he knowingly choose a running mate who backed the bridge to nowhere until it was expedient not to, but kept the money anyway? Did he knowingly choose a running mate embroiled in an investigation of abuse of power? The list goes on: John McCain has shown the worst decision making skills possible. I am flabbergasted, and scared. He absolutely cannot be president.

IN ADDITION TO THE TWO SCANDALS SARAH PALIN IS CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN - THE OTHER SHOE MAY DROP ON PALIN THIS WEEK!!!!

"The National Enquirer's coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin's extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor's daughter revealed her pregnancy. Following our John Edwards' exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign's vetting process. Despite the McCain camp's attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum."

What I would really like to know is why CNN fanned the flames of "Troopergate" while sitting on information that they had on Wooten and his many "issues" while pointing accusing fingers at Palin. Not until they had an interview with Wooten did they disclose a couple of the many problems in his personnel file. I find CNN's bias on this matter distressing. Most of the problems that Wooten had during his career were known by many of us here on the blogs by last Sunday but CNN didn't begin reporting on them until Friday even tho CNN had at least 2 "reporters" in Alaska. CNN purposely sat on information that would have balanced the story for thier own purposes of promoting Obama and bashing Palin. If you think you are getting "fair political news" from CNN then I have a snow ski resort in the Florida Keys I'd love to sell to you!

It is quite apparent that "Maverick" McCain has been roped, hog-tied and branded by the radical right wing of the party. They have thrust upon him an ideologue who actually hopes that Armageddon is coming soon. A cheerleader with a Bible and a gun.

Although many say that we should not judge her personal life, it is just those irresponsible choices in her life that disqualify her from the second highest office in the land

In her early forties, with four children she is elected to a governorship - and THEN gets pregnant? Oh well, she can do it all. But with what is nowadays called a "special needs" baby who, may I ask, is providing those special needs? And who is paying for them? Her eldest son is off to fight in Iraq - as it is God's will. Her eldest daughter abstained her way into a pregnancy of her own - God's will again, I suppose.

That leaves the First Dude and the two little girls to take care of baby Trig.

Palin says that she is so proud that Bristol "chose" to have her own baby. Yeah? I don???t for one moment believe that Bristol had any choice whatsoever.

Has anyone found out how much the Repulican National Commitee is putting into the dowry for Bristol Palin and her babydaddy Levi Johnston? It must be quite a substantial sum to get him to smile so broadly and so constantly. Will the shotgun wedding be before or after the election? Does the prenuptual agreement stipulate what, if anything, Levi will get in the divorce? Do the terms depend on the outcome of the General Election in November?

If Palin is elected and she treats the Nation the way she treats her family and her Alaskan constituents I fear for the Republic.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 09/06/2008 9:22:07 PM

Moozle...where do you get off judging what is appropriate for Palin and her family? Seem's to me she's done quite well and the children all look happy and well cared for. As for Bristol she and the "baby daddy" made their own decision to have unprotected sex even tho they both likely knew full well that that could produce a baby. NEWS FLASH....teenagers often do stupid stuff they have been warned by their parents NOT to do! But you Moozle...I am certain you followed your parents advice to the letter in all circumstances....right?

I agree totally that frequently kids make mistakes. I actually don't have a problem with the fact the Palins have chosen to support these to young kids as they make a very quick adjustment to adulthood as a result of their free choice to engage in sex. What I DO have a huge problem with is how any Parent (of any gender) would knowingly step into the national spotlight and drag along two teens who were grappling with this issue. She and the campaign threw these kids under the bus. And she did it for her own personal political ambition. For that I say she shows no judgement.

      • Posted By: Moozle @ 09/06/2008 10:06:17 PM

Appropriate for Palin and her family? She is welcome to run her family as she sees fit. Unfortunately for America she wants to run my family, and YOUR family, and ALL of our families as she sees fit. She is an unyielding religious bigot who would deny a choice to ANY stupid teenager, and who even denies that Lutherans are Christians, as seen in her mayoral election.

She is entitled to run her family (and I am certain that it is SHE) any way she wants. But her views about religion, sex education, book banning, and the environment are simply execrable and show remarkably
poor qualities for a leader of a supposedly free country.
