This is a well written article and it brings a lot into focus given all the rumors that have been flying around. As for me and most of the people that I know, it doesn't matter what Palin's personal life is like. We just want her to stay out of our personal lives. No proseletizing; no interference with a woman's right to choose; no introduction of abstinence only programs in our schools when teen pregnancy is at a high in 2007; no denying that our planet is on a fast road to making it difficult for all of us to life on it. Her policies are bad for this country. In every area, we are struggling: social, international, financial, educational. There is no time for someone who has to be tutored on critical issues to be ready to be vice-president. This isn't personal. The republicans will get another chance but in the meantime we must vote for OBAMA/BIDEN so that we can get our country back on track. Then whoever runs on the Republican ticket can go on to getting us back to where we are: high unemployment, high deficit, broken international image, etc.

Good luck on having a fundamentalist evangelical stay out of your life. It's their duty. You have to either dodge, run, or hit them with something to get them to quit. We don't deserve this crap in government.

        Hi olderwiser,

Haven't seen you in a while, welcome back. By the way I agree with you totally and with McCain and Palin this is definitely what we will get.

    LETS DEBATE THE ISSUES!

Show me that there is at least ONE halfway intelligent Democrat on here willing to talk about the issues?

I suspect many are quiet because they do not want a public A$$ whooping by me but I again challenge anybody to refute anything I said in my ISSUES DRAFT below!

    • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 5:24:09 PM

The truth is that you have been totally and completely refuted by Bush-Cheney. The results ,totally apparent by just checking the current status of everything, points out that the Republican philosophies used by Bush-Cheney and backed by the party are aggressively detrimental to the country. Going over your list I find many things that I can fault and point out as problemsome but that isn't the point. The real point is that we have a government and a Republican Party following THEIR PROGRAMS to the determent of the MAJORITY of Americans and the benefit of a few. If you can rationalize that then you belong on their campaign staff.

It's funny that these Hillary supporters who want to vote for McCain will accomplish something. When Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, she wanted women who got raped to pay for a rape kit. Now how sad is that and out of touch.

What kind of site is this. Why don't you start posting real issues instead of garbage. You are the type of person that doesn't care about real issues or the fact that millions are without health care and jobs are going overseas. No...You must be an elitist, who can buy 500 dollar shoes and fly in your private jet. Post something with substance next time.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/11/2008 1:28:39 PM

Chin, What the H*ll are you talking about? Your ridiculous ranting is not worthy. This is a video that is very in tune with an issue (the IRAQ war) and what one Iraq Veteran has for a personal message that he wants to address to Barack Obama who did not believe in supporting the Iraq war (nor support of the surge or the acknowledgement that it worked). God Bless America. . . God Bless our Troops.

        • Posted By: chindognyc @ 09/11/2008 5:04:51 PM

You can say all you want, but if you say god bless our troops, than the Bush administration should have treated our troops with respect instead of putting them in mole infested hospitals and poor conditions. Thats what you should be talking about. How young men come back from the war and become alcoholics and drug addicts and homeless and becoming abusers. Talk about that. Don't put up a site showing that the Republicans are the best at treating the troops well when we see what happened to these young men and women.

      • Posted By: Cimarron @ 09/11/2008 2:38:39 PM

Your reply is probably the most DISRESPECTFUL OF OUR MILITARY MEN & WOMEN I have read ... just under those Kansas religious nut-jobs who protest fallen soldiers' funerals.

For your information, I'm a stay at home mom of two trying to make do on one income in So. Cal.

And if you're truly concerned about jobs going overseas, tell that to Nancy Pelosi and her ilk who provide tax incentives to companies who DO take their jobs out of this country.

        Educate yourself ... read.

Not that anyone cares but I have got to stop this stuff. Much like careerdaytrader but for different reasons, I get too worked up. Where his tax status makes him very concerned, I get as upset over the dishonesty. Oh I do not let the likes of sharenews or HolyRoller or willnotvoteobama or similar others bother me, as their constant regurgitation of garbage clearly defines them with their biased blindness and lack of any class; probably just volunteers or staff for the Republican Party. I do feel many times like the odds are against me here and I am talking to deaf ears but what really gets me is my frustration with people refusing to be honest, especially with themselves. Don???t get defensive and just let me vent one last time. I think some will recall I have mentioned that I truly strive to be very rational and objective and to make conscience driven decisions. To demonstrate that I am being unbiased, realize that I was a registered Republican for all of the time from voting for Barry Goldwater until voting for Al Gore (against GWBush). I recognized Bush-Cheney as being flagrantly dishonest and self-focused in their 2000 campaigning and there was no way I could vote for them. After seeing Bush-Cheney-Rove-etal in action for three years, in 2003 I had to change my registration to Undeclared (independent). The last eight years have proven me very astute as we have never had a more dishonest presidency nor one so negatively impacting the majority of Americans while the admin focused only on benefit for Special Interests, a select few and themselves, all while they fed everyone lies to deceive, cover and rationalize (totally backed by the Republican Party). Which gives me my answer to careerdaytraders long list of philosophies offered to support the Republican choice: while I could give you another list equally as long addressing everything, the real answer is simply in all of the negative results witnessed over the last eight years.

Really? Rebut me. All I'm hearing from you are empy repetitions of information we all heard in tenth grade economics. You ask for an intelligent response from someone in the uppermost tax bracket and there you go.

    • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 4:57:43 PM

I don't think you needed all of the repetition but what you stated is absolutely correct. Now get people to understand, accept and admit it. And then vote based on it! Good luck.

That is a major problem amongst some of the 21st century democrats. They don't want to discuss different opinions, they'd rather call anyone with a different opinion ignorant.

Yeah its hilarious that Democrats THINK THEY'RE INTELLIGENT!

That's one thing I've never been able to figure out. How they can support a MORON who has very stupid policies, policies that have ALREADY BEEN TRIED and didn't work!

And won't all the small business owners just love being unionized?

And won't the worker love having another hand in their pocket, dues cut from their checks?

You know, it's all well and good to say that cutting taxes for the rich will result in more jobs and a stronger economy. It's just not that simple in practice, and that's where it really counts. As an example, the world would be a much better place if we lived in a utopian socialistic commune where every individual was self motivated to acheive their potential, but it absolutely broke down in practice because it's an oversimplification of reality. With Reaganomics we also get huge national debt and Enron, weakening dollar over time, and a general slumping of the economy in the long run.

Statistically this country has always done better under the democrats when it comes to holistic economics, and you can take that to the bank.

    ENERGY

In this aspect Obama isn't a TOTAL MORON! I agree this country
NEEDS to look for alternative energy sources. I doubt there
are ANY people who don't agree with this.

Where Obama goes wrong is to NOT DRILL NOW.

For those who don't understand international economies and
how prices are set let me explain.

Oil prices are set in the OIL FUTURES markets. It's not
just supply and demand that has traders setting prices
its the FUTURE EXPECTATIONS of supply and demand as well!

Did anybody notice that the price of oil fell from about $150
per gallon to under $110 per gallon ever since President
Bush released the executive order against offshore drilling?

For those of us who occassionally trade energy WE HAVE NOTICED!

Yes its true that allowing more drilling is NOT THE LONG TERM
SOLUTION but if America makes the commitment to doing it
the OIL FUTURES markets will price oil lower NOW and keep it
    less than it WOULD BE.

So in a nutshell drilling will keep gas prices lower.

This is a policy that will HELP THE POOR. An extra $20-50 per
week LESS GAS PRICES can go a long way to helping the poor
    and middle classes!

Now on Obama's side we also need wind, solar, geothermal,
NUCLEAR, clean coal technology as well.

We also need to INVENT the low cost, light weight, high performance
    electric car battery.

The good news on that is Japanese automakers have already
done this and it won't be long before those cars are sold
in the US ONCE electric companies increase their capacities
and work out the logistics of this. The Japanese have
done this in Japan and they are rolling their cars out globally
    from 2010 to 2012!!

    http://news.uk.msn.com/newsweek.aspx?cp-documentid=9496081

We need to focus on nuclear energy which is the cheapest and
improving the car battery to allow power, performance and
GREATER distances per charge of 50 miles. THis will happen
    soon WITH OR WITHOUT OBAMA!

Obama KNOWS this technology is already near completion and
wants to claim credit once he's President for this! It's
crazy to give him ANY credit for hybrid or electric cars
and green energy sources, the decades of work and research
happened well before him and continues now and will into
the future even with Mc Cain as President!

"Palin is now running for national office, exposing her young family to the warping effects of international scrutiny" I actually don't recall seeing this point made about Obama and his "young family". Truthfully, I didn't expect ObamaWeek to produce anything worthwhile about Sarah Palin and, as usual, you have not disappointed.

So, you STILL have to write that Palin's convention speech was "written by Matt Scully." Question: Can you cite any place in Newsweek in 2007 or 2008 where you have said who wrote any other politican's speech? Further, those who heard Palin's non-TelePrompted introduction talk on August 29th know that her Sept. 3 speech "written by Matt Scully" was full of authentic Palin-isms. Indeed her convention speech may have been more authentically her own than that of any other leading candidate in this entire election cycle.

    SUMMARY

So as you can see what most people want, a thriving economy,
lower taxes, JOBS, Job Security you can NOT have with Obama!

Energy policy will be forced to change due to the high oil prices
and the technology to do this has already been developed! You
    don't need Obama for this!

The ONLY reason to vote for Obama is if you have enough money
to survive the economic collapse under him, you don't need
a job or an income and you are pissed at Bush for the war!
Even though it looks now that the Iraq war is winding down
on its own and we will come home victorious and with honor!

I hope this helps Democrats UNDERSTAND where Republicans
are coming from and I also hope it helps you UNDERSTAND
the ISSUES more clearly. Maybe now you will understand
the ANGER us Republicans have at all the idiotic policies
Obama has and how they will destroy America.

As we mourn on this day, I want to take a moment to commend all who have blogged here.

We are engaging in the most American of traditions; the ability to speak our minds without fear of reprisal. This freedom that we take for granted is one of the things that has made us unique, and made us great.

And it is one of the things the extremists, our enemies, fear most - a loud and vibrant community of people with ideas, and the willingness to speak them.

Although we are frequently rude, crude and belligerent, we are part of an idea that goes back to Thomas Payne. A free press, no matter how we may disagree with the views expressed, is a sacred thing.

Thanks, all bloggers, even the ones I disagree with, maybe especially the ones I disagree with, for carrying on this tradition.

    Long may we wave.

Wow NeswWkDickG at first I thought you were an independant like me but guess not. O'Bama will be a great leader for this country but not now at this time. He is part of the future of our country and I look forward to it but we need experience and he is not quite there. McCain as Bush is just koolaid drinking as it has been called blind adoration with no facts. MaCain is proven as his own man and the 90% thing includes all b-day wishes, congrats, Acclimations and daily general business that is passed at 80-100% magrins take them out and its only around 70% which is better than anything being offered by the Dems. They go lock step without regard of anything but gettting elected again and doing what they can do do damage to Reps. Before you jump I didn't think censuring Clinton over his trist in the Oval was right and I voted against Bush 1 twice. All i'm saying is research and dont get taken in by rhetoric.

    • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 12:34:30 PM

I am very much an Independent and have done my research and pride myself in being rational, objective and in making conscience driven decisions. I even live in AZ and I'm very aware of who and what McCain is. And anyone who infers Bush-Cheney are one thing and McCain-Palin are substantially different isn't doing their research, being rational and objective but rather are letting their biases, prejudices and self-interests dictate to them. Another four years of Republican irresponsibility is scary and worse, Sarah Palin ever being president is down right frightening. I've got to go guys, things to do - have fun!

      • Posted By: jperry64 @ 09/11/2008 1:19:28 PM

Using koolaid statements is not a sign of doing research. You present yourself as a Independant but dont show it. If you were you wouldn't show the bias you have. Both parties are a mess and we deserve better but this is what we have. My statements are that O'Bama is probable as president but not now he needs some more experience than he has gotten with Chicago given boosts. If you did your research then you would not make the mistake of taking McCain as Bush that is koolaid to the uninformed. Get information and use your own words and not those of the campaigns and their mantra messages for the masses be your own person.
