As we can clearly see here, the Republicans don't want to deal with the issues. From McCain-Palin to the bloggers here they all want to deal only with the meaningless and by throwing around a lot of garbage keep the focus off of the issues. The efforts to distract are understandable because they don't want attention on their positions or on what those positions cause. The Republicans should be known as the party of one-liners, cute but empty. They are intent on making issues out of the meaningless and totally avoiding the issues of meaning. Should tell us something!

Wow! Hey NewsWkDickG, I think the GOP professor (CareerDayTrader) has spoken. Do ya feel schooled now?

CC: No I don't feel 'schooled' as school is somewhere you get unbiased/non-slanted information.

careerdaytrader: I could respond with my long list too, of injustices, deceptions, even criminal behavior committed by Bush-Cheney-Rove-etal and point out how it has drastically cost the middle class while patronizing the Special Interests and select few, who return support, contributions and promises for kickbacks after the politicians leave office. GWBush has even bragged that he will pass both his father and Bill Clinton in wealth shortly after he leaves office. There is no benefit to other than a few to continue that and all McCain-Palin offer is more of the same (which is obvious when objectively and rationally considering all of the issues). I was a registered Republican for many years but the Republican Party has literally lost its way, it is no longer what it was 18 years ago and calling them conservative is unreal as they spend more and waste more with bigger government and all just for the benefit of a few. I really don't care about Republican or Democrat and rather only want an honest government that is responsible to all of the people, first honest, then transparent so we know they are honest - much different than what we have today and what McCain-Palin offer.

If you DISAGREE with my analysis, and I tried to keep it SIMPLE for people that don't understand business or economics or monetary policy to understand, then LET ME KNOW.

I have always been supportive of the Republican Party, although I have been in profound disagreement with how Bush has handled the economy, healthcare, and the illegal immigrant issues. The focus on Sarah Palin by the news media, including this issue of Newsweek (which I usually read cover to cover) sickens me. The Republican party has totally lost my support and I am embarrassed that the USA and our media is so gullible to buy into such tactics. I would be scared to death to have her step into the leadership role of President.. I specialize in gerriatrics and wasn't very pleased with the McCain choice to begin with. Sensationism does sale newspapers - and magazines, which I am sure is Newsweek's driving force for this issue. I have never been so incensed to register and make a comment. I see that there is an article regarding cancer included - but buried within, which is very unfortunate. Now that is an important subject and more needs to be done. I witness elderly who are unable to receive even basic healthcare on a routine basis and the political atmosphere is playing Hollywood. I need to tell you that this issue of Newsweek went into the trash - and the Republican party certainly has lost my confidence. It is embarrassing. Internationally, we must be thought of as a prime time soap opera. Enough said.

McCain is a coward! When is the gonaa to come out from behind his sacraficial lamb? Shame on the media for making her the "issue". Her 15 minutes are up!

Kind of like Obama being a coward not accepting one of the 10 Town Hall Meetings that he agreed to have with McCain saying what a great idea it was. To date he has not had one cuz, of course, the format of such meetings are unscripted and he is positioned on a platform side by side with McCain being asked random questions from the audience members. So he took the SAFE way of not doing any of those forums.

whoisrite drink koolaid much???? O'bama made a gaff get over it. O'Bama jumped all over McCain when he told a reporter he would have an aid get back to him about actual number of house they owned. I bet you didn't have a problem with that. You need to open your eyes and learn things not just accept all the junk that is thrown out there for you to swallow without question, It's the appearance that got O'Bama in Trouble. I'm positive he didnt mean it in that manner but that is how it was taken both by his audience and others it happens. All the zealots on both sides need to get it together and act like adults.

Fact: McCain camp should not talk about the Obama calling anyone a name when Johnny Mac referred to Hilary as a pig in lifpstick during the primaries and that is one of the main reasons women screamed foul. I have never seen a candidate pose for a more un American un Patriotic picture than Sarah Palin wrapped in the in the flag of the United States of America. Even my children know how to to show more respect to this great country. Gov Palin should bruch up on appropriate flag ettiquete while she studies McCain's policy positions back home i n Alaska.

I am a covetted undecided voter. Who has actively followed the primaries and the convention speechs. I haven't seen anything to substantiate Obama as a flag burner. My point was that the photo was inappropriate for someone looking to be a heart beat away from commander and chief.

          Flag as Clothing

The U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8(d) states, "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.

Something tells me that a patriotic woman posed hugging a US flag draped over her shoulders is less offensive than many trashbags of US flags situated next to overstuffed dumpsters lined up to be thrown out after the democratic convention which some repblicans found and salvaged.

    SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES

Right now an employer has to pay BOTH sides of the Social Security
tax on himself. Workers only pay half, their share!

Obama wants to raise the 12% we small business owners pay on the
first $102,000 of our incomes to $250,000 or MORE!

For any small business that makes $250,000 in income this is a
    $18,000 PER YEAR additional TAX!

This will further reduce new jobs, investment spending toward
the company and possibly cause some employees to be FIRED.

The money has to come from SOMEPLACE! Democrats seem to think
    money grows on trees!

Now Obama said this ADDITIONAL tax by raising the cap may be up
    to $500,000 of income.

So for those like me that will mean $47,760 MORE taxes each year.

This will DEFINITELY cause FEWER NEW JOBS!

    ------------------------------------

    CAPITAL GAINS TAXES

This may be Obama's WORST policy. Did you know that under
the lower 15% capital gains tax rates that MORE TAXES WERE
COLLECTED by the IRS than under the old 28% tax?

Even though Obama has been TOLD this he STILL wants to raise
    this tax.

What it will do is tax any profits you make on your retirement
accounts, savings accounts, and college savings accounts for
your kids. Because you will pay nearly DOUBLE the taxes
you will have MUCH LESS MONEY for retirement due to the effects
    of COMPOUNDING!

What this will also do is reduce money INVESTED IN AMERICA
which means fewer new businesses, and FAR FEWER JOBS.

Summary: Fewer new businesses, less growth, definitely fewer jobs
and also some firings due to this!

    ENERGY

In this aspect Obama isn't a TOTAL MORON! I agree this country
NEEDS to look for alternative energy sources. I doubt there
are ANY people who don't agree with this.

Where Obama goes wrong is to NOT DRILL NOW.

For those who don't understand international economies and
how prices are set let me explain.

Oil prices are set in the OIL FUTURES markets. It's not
just supply and demand that has traders setting prices
its the FUTURE EXPECTATIONS of supply and demand as well!

Did anybody notice that the price of oil fell from about $150
per gallon to under $110 per gallon ever since President
Bush released the executive order against offshore drilling?

For those of us who occassionally trade energy WE HAVE NOTICED!

Yes its true that allowing more drilling is NOT THE LONG TERM
SOLUTION but if America makes the commitment to doing it
the OIL FUTURES markets will price oil lower NOW and keep it
    less than it WOULD BE.

So in a nutshell drilling will keep gas prices lower.

This is a policy that will HELP THE POOR. An extra $20-50 per
week LESS GAS PRICES can go a long way to helping the poor
    and middle classes!

Now on Obama's side we also need wind, solar, geothermal,
NUCLEAR, clean coal technology as well.

We also need to INVENT the low cost, light weight, high performance
    electric car battery.

The good news on that is Japanese automakers have already
done this and it won't be long before those cars are sold
in the US ONCE electric companies increase their capacities
and work out the logistics of this. The Japanese have
done this in Japan and they are rolling their cars out globally
    from 2010 to 2012!!

    http://news.uk.msn.com/newsweek.aspx?cp-documentid=9496081

We need to focus on nuclear energy which is the cheapest and
improving the car battery to allow power, performance and
GREATER distances per charge of 50 miles. THis will happen
    soon WITH OR WITHOUT OBAMA!

Obama KNOWS this technology is already near completion and
wants to claim credit once he's President for this! It's
crazy to give him ANY credit for hybrid or electric cars
and green energy sources, the decades of work and research
happened well before him and continues now and will into
the future even with Mc Cain as President!

    SUMMARY

So as you can see what most people want, a thriving economy,
lower taxes, JOBS, Job Security you can NOT have with Obama!

Energy policy will be forced to change due to the high oil prices
and the technology to do this has already been developed! You
    don't need Obama for this!

The ONLY reason to vote for Obama is if you have enough money
to survive the economic collapse under him, you don't need
a job or an income and you are pissed at Bush for the war!
Even though it looks now that the Iraq war is winding down
on its own and we will come home victorious and with honor!

I hope this helps Democrats UNDERSTAND where Republicans
are coming from and I also hope it helps you UNDERSTAND
the ISSUES more clearly. Maybe now you will understand
the ANGER us Republicans have at all the idiotic policies
Obama has and how they will destroy America.

The Republicans are the smart party. Low taxes, small governement and PRO BUSINESS. In case you may not be smart enough to figure it out everything you OWN came from a business and the money you spend to buy those things comes from a BUSINESS.

The poor are dumb asses who drink and use drugs too much and have unprotected sex and grow their families into 3 to 5 children and don't make much so end up staying poor.

Now WHY would I, as a richer republican want to give these MORONS my money vs my OWN KIDS?

Answer this question before you call Republicans greedy. We pay YOUR fair share of taxes because you're too dumb to amount to anything!

Top 10% income earners pay 2/3 of taxes! THere needs to be a lower class and middle class TAX increase to make things MORE fair!

      • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/10/2008 4:47:30 PM

careerdaytrader: I can empathize with your position and understand what you want but realize that being one of the top 1% of the income earners, you don't represent or near represent the country. And the fact that you are making as much as you claim, you should think this is a great country and be willing to pay the taxes. Funny though that if things keep going the way they are, not only will the middle class become the poor but the economy will be so negatively impacted that it will hurt significantly at the top also. When the economy is going great then everyone benefits, the poor and middle class spend more and businesses and the wealthy realize more profits. Government shouldn't be solely a give-away mentality but they should support bringing the people up to be productive members in the economy so that everyone gains. It is not liberal and it is not conservative, it is common sense and it is fair to everyone!

        • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/10/2008 5:56:38 PM

I don't mind paying FAIR taxes. What's fair is 20 to 25% for all members of society.

Say we make it 25% if a person makes $30,000 they pay $7,500 in taxes.
If they make $50,000 they pay $12,500 in taxes.
If they make $100,000 they pay $25,000 in taxes.
If they make $250,000 they pay 62,500 in taxes.

          That's what is called FAIRNESS.

Progressive taxes which so MANY people pay nothing while raping the MOST SUCCESSFUL AND INTELLIGENT is crazy.

I suggest anybody reading this who already pays over $100,000 to start doing business OFFSHORE in friendly tax havens. This country is going down the tubes and we should LET IT until people come to their senses and realize that liberal policies destroy jobs, the economy and are the reason why our kids are soooo stupid and getting dumber by the day.

          • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 10:52:14 AM

careerdaytrader: Fair seems always to be relative to who is doing the defining. Now I don't begrudge those who, like yourself, take chances, lay it on the line so to speak, to make money but there are very many who get obnoxious compensation without taking any risk and by doing little more than being one of the good old boys. As examples Corporate executives with humongous compensation, great perks and outlandish stock options, all of which cost the company the stock holders and the employees without equitable relation to their actual contribution. It is tantamount to stealing and these are those the Republicans cater to, as they then return support, contributions and promise for after office kickbacks. Either, to attempt to be fair, put that in line or tax the hell out of them. In the mean time enjoy what you make and have the sensitivity to understand that there are many who, through no fault of their own or who just need a leg up, don't have it so good and could use some government/community help. It could really be a great country for everyone! Not trying to be liberal just fair!

            • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/11/2008 11:03:08 AM

I'm all FOR community help and charitys and religious organizations that provide this LOCAL help.

What I'm against is the class warfare that Obama has started. In appealing to the middle class to get elected and to OBTAIN POWER, he used the us vs them approach.

Screw the rich people, they have enough money. Lets take MORE from them, they already pay 70% of the taxes in the US but lets IGNORE that fact and lets lie to the dumb ass Democrats and make them think that the rich DO NOT PAY their fair share, and lets give that money to the poor.

We are not a Robbin Hood society. If you want Socialism, move to a socialist country. This is a FREE MARKET economy where EVERYBODY has a chance. I've been middle class, poor, and now rich and it was ME who did the work to get to where I'm at.

I am going to, TAX INCREASES OR NO TAX INCREASES, give my money to MY family and children. Sorry the poor in the ghetto's are not MY concern and honestly don't care about them at all. Their problems were caused by their lack of work ethic, their parents having 3 to 5 kids, having single parent families because alcohol or drugs got in the way. Basically IRRESPONSIBILITY on their part, their parents part, etc.

What we need are laws that prevent people from having kids if they have no income. POVERTY solved and its so damn easy!

              • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 11:42:03 AM

I can feel your emotion and recognize a lot of exaggeration expressed in that emotion. I have been up and down myself a few times in my life, so I know what it takes and what it means. You deserve credit for your accomplishments and your family deserves what you can give them. However everyone deserves a chance and some need help, even possibly just some confidence and optimism building and then everyone is better off. Much of what you said was really ridiculous, not only insensitive but ignorant, but I assume that is the emotion talking.

Lots of people cheat and they still maintain their jobs. If Americans' stopped obsessing about this bullsh*t and started thinking about real issues (For instance: global warming, the war in Iraq, the rising cost of everything, gay rights, education, offshore drilling) and each candidates stance on these issues and how this will effect you, we would be a lot better off. Is this too complex for people or what? I thought more people were going to college these days!?!?

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 09/10/2008 9:26:23 AM

McCain chose symbolism over substane - tokenism at it's worst. It is 2008, and a man running for president has chosen his running mate based on one qualification: she has a uterus, and uses it. How insulting.

If he really wanted a republican female politician with substance that was lock step with typical republican values, he would have chosen someone like Elizabeth Dole - after all, who better to answer the phone at 3 am than the former head of the Red Cross?

He didn't pick someone with substance because he needed the gesture, the caricature - and he needed the sizzle. By surrounding himself with beauty queens (the new one certainly takes the focus off Cindy, doesn't she?) he gets the sex appeal and also gets to avoid the issues. (Don't think there aren't more than a few neanderthals elbowing each other in the locker room, snickering about how the 'old man' still has it.)

So here we are - breasts wrapped up in the American flag, with a shot gun over her shoulder (has she aimed it her future son-in-law?). And too many people falling for the symbols with no understanding and less interest in the substance.

This article asked the question what does she believe but after reading it I still don't know what she thinks about the economy, jobs, medicare reform, gas prices, the Russians, the Chinese, or Afghanistan.

My fear is that she doesn't know, either.

If Obama is only interested in the truth and issues, then I sincerely wish he had done more debates with Hillary, done town hall meetings with McCain, and been interviewed by more tough reporters. It has been disappointing that he had not done so. That is the only way we can find out more about him

          • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/11/2008 11:00:31 AM

I would be surprised if there is much people don't know about Obama, especially concerning his positions on the issues. Hillary and Obama did more debates than anyone before, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. And McCain and his town hall cry is ridiculous; he thinks he has an advantage in that format hiding his ineptness, which is doubtful, and he goes out of his way to avoid talking about the issues, about anything with real meaning to the people. I suppose that is understandable as for McCain-Palin the issues are the kiss of death.

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/10/2008 5:50:39 PM

I don't think he's a winner. Obama's speech on education today was wholly unrealistic.

While it would be great to see whiteboards in every classroom and a desktop computer at every desk, our country can't afford it right now -- we owe too much money to foreign creditors and can't accept the security risk that presents. We have to pay that debt down first. That is far more important than giving our kids new computers every year. And there would be significant replacement costs every year. Kids just don't take care of things.

Nationally, there were 36.4 million children ages 5-13, and 16.8 million age 14 to 18. That's 53.2 million computers and 20 million white boards. Laptops that will run power point (which was what he said he wanted kids doing) cost more than $500 each, and whiteboards cost $800 to $29400 each. That's another 42.6 BILLION over and above what he's proposing in tax rebates and healthcare and energy credits, and doesn't even count the $40,000 a year Obama is promising all of these kids for college when they get old enough. Where do you think the money will be coming from?

Grade school and high school education is and should be a local issue, and is highly dependent more on parental involvement than on the amount of money spent or the equipment a child has to take home. How many schools do not have computers now? Even if each child does not have his own, there is access to computers to learn not only how to do power point presentations but keyboarding, and these skills are taught to students beginning in kindergarten on classroom computers which kids share.

Obama needs to quit making unrealistic promises.

denmill, depends on WHO he is annointed by. Unless its the same one who annointed Sarah, then we're still ahead--not tied. And somehow, i don't think He would annoint two, especially from different parties. November will tell.

SARAH PALIN IS NOW BEING JUDGED FOR ALLOWING ARIEL WOLF HUNTS IN ALASKA ! SHE HAS SIGNED A BILL THAT WILL ALLOW WOLF HUNTS AND THE PETA PEOPLE ARE GOING NUTS ABOUT IT AND THE LEFTIST LIBERALS TOO !! ITS NOT OKAY TO FLY A PLANE IN A STATE THAT IS ALMOST ALL WILDERNESS TO HUNT DOWN WOLFS THAT HAVE BEEN DEPLETEING THE OTHER WILD LIFE IN THE STATE ! THESE WOLFS HAVE GROWN IN POPULATION SO MUCH THAT THEY ARE NOW COMMING INTO CITIES AND TOWNS TO HUNT THEY ARE KILLING OFF LIVESTOCK AND DOMESTIC DOGS AND CATS PLUS LAST YEAR IN THE STATE THERE HAVE BEEN 19 REPORTS OF HUMANS BEING ATTACKED 14 OF WHICH WERE CHILDREN ! (GOOD THING SOMEONE WAS THERE TO HELP THEM ) SO THE LIBERALS AND PETA ARE IN A UPROAR !! BUT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT LIKE I DO YOU WILL COME TO THIS ......... WOLFS HAVE AS MANY AS 12 PUPS AT A TIME BUT NO FEWER THAN 5 AND IN A PACK 85% OF THE PUPS SURVIVE ! SO THAT BEING SAID THE WOLF POPULATION IS VERY HEARTY NOW MOST PEOPEL HAVE 1 KID AT A TIME SOME TIMES 2 OR 3 RARELY MORE ! WHY IS IT WRONG TO KILL OFF SOME WOLFS THAT ARE NOW BEING REAL BOLD AS TO ATTACK HUMANS BUT ITS OKAY FOR THE LIBERALS TO SAY HEY IF YOU DON'T WANT THAT KID GO GET RID OF IT ! SO WHAT I SEE IS ITS OKAY TO KILL BABIES IN THE LIBERAL POINT OF VEIW BUT IF YOU KILL A WOLF THEN YOUR A BAD PERSON !

Unfortunately, most extremist (ultra-libs & neocons) are not rational people. That's why we need TWO MAVERICKS in the W. House. Time to shake things up! Out with the Neoconvicts, down with the Ultra-libs, AND IN WITH THE MOD REPUBS!

    Comment: Hey Brain,

QUESTION: What is the main difference between a Democrat and a Republican?

ANSWER: A Democrat truly believes in AND feels entitled to a FREE LUNCH.

A Republican knows better. No such thang as a FL.

Hey do you really believe that the The real Americans who truly believe and care what are country is all about and the direction our country is heading in cares what the F*ck the difference is?

Only stupid people who believe in the wedge and vote to support it care about the difference. I have seen stupidity on all levels of intelligence.Because people are educated and have high IQ's does not exempt them from promoting and practicing Stupidity. Where are you on the scale? Since you promote and support The Wedge!

Wow! Thanks for the bump BrainDrain'.

In your lib-view, I guess I'd rank a 10 on the stupidity scale 'cause I DO NOT BELIEVE IN FREE LUNCHES. Sorry Charlie ... smile. BTW, as an Independent, I do not allow specific hot-button cultural/religious 'wedge issues' to cloud my mind when it comes to selecting our next CIC. I look at the BIG PIC sir! I'd suggest you do the same.
