the GOP can attempt to hide her all they want, people will learn about her and her views and will find out that she isn't any different from any other politicain out there, a mouthpiece for whoever is guiding her (the far right it would seem).

Palin is not a rock star - she is an ordinary American thrust into the limelight...and she has done and will continue to do the job asked of her.
The term "rock star" is ususally used by the media when they salivate over the potential liberal takeover of government by a Clinton, by an Obamamessiah, etc. I'm sure the term was used for Pelosi (but I have a hard time thinking that the media could use it on Harry Reid - ha!)
To use the term "rock star" with Palin is just a clumsy attempt to try to marginalize the hockey mom/Governor into a celebrity a la the Obamamessiah...doesn't work when you try to apply it to an authentic person.
We, the great unwashed, see through it.

Hate to be the one to tell ya.. The republicans have been the ones in control of congress for 12 of the past 14 years and the white house for the past 8 years.. The "big government" you so hate is a product of the republican party and its desire to make billions in war profit killing America's youth. Fannie & Freddie failure=Republican profiteering. Mortgage meltdown=Republican profiteering. health care meltdown=Republican's desire to put a for profit health insurance bureaucrat between you & you doctor, for profit of republican's.
The republican's are all about soaking the taxpayers for a profit while they kill our brave service members & veterans. This Ranger course & SERE course graduate knows the facts and the facts are that republican's for a profit. So vote for profit you blood soaked hypocrite, but do not try to tell me your are a patriot, because you are nothing more than a killer!

      • Posted By: WindhamDog @ 09/07/2008 3:07:36 PM

Who said I hated big government? Who said I was a Republican? Who said I was a Patriot?
I'm in awe of those who actually have served and put their lives on the line for our country.
I'm commenting on how lazy the press is with using the term "Rock Star" - it doesn't apply to those not seeking celebrity status (like the Greek-column-loving Democratic nominee)
You've got some anger issues - hope you feel better tomorrow.

We all have our favorite news networks we use to obtain the information we need to make a selection in this election cycle. For months I have watched the same network and supplemented it with visits to competitive internet sites. However, during the recent political party conventions I found myself constantly switching to the other networks to see what was ???going on???. Some of the networks seemed to put their own slant on the issues while a few clearly directed each question or comment towards a particular candidate. This is only to be expected since each of the 200 million plus voters has their own individual opinion on their favorite candidate. During this buildup to the election I have spent a significant amount of time reading the opinions of the political pundits and most importantly the comments submitted by their readers. However in the last 2 weeks I have seen more hate being spewed in the comments than ever before. Governor Palin has been the brunt of totally fantastic lies, many of which would have resulted in a Salem, Massachusetts woman being burned at the stake and others that are physically impossible. Barack Obama???s middle name of Hussein has caused many that are politically opposed to him to clam he is a closet Muslim. And everyone running for each of the parties has voters waiting for them to bite the heads off of bats.
I have no idea of how many ultra left and right wing fanatics are spreading this filth. It might be as little as 5%, maybe much less, but they are only clouding the election for the vast majority of voters. No matter which direction your politics lean you must look at every last bit of information and consider the source, how plausible is it and what is the significance to the future of our country in these trying times? Hopefully the hate will not affect the results of the upcoming election.
Remember, half of you will wake up on November 5th having voted for the party that lost.

Actually stories like the pregnancy of Palin's daughter was released by the McCain campaign. Look to the campaign itself for the source of the filth. It is an effort to distract you from looking at her record.

The left does not have any need whatsoever to address Palin. The VP just does not really matter to the folks that will decide this election. The political middle. Palin will continue to be Palin and who really cares, except the MSM?
The press at the Weekly Standard, The National Review and all of those liberal newspapers like the Wall Street journal had better wake up and do their jobs. Lake JaneMS said by gum!
The reason republicans love McCain is because he is just one more war profiteer, making his millions and buying his treasure houses with his money soaked in the blood of America's youth.
As a 100% disabled war veteran I have witnessed the republican war profiteering first hand. These folks only oppose abortion so that more folks can die and get dismembered so they can make a profit from it. That is the real republican agenda. War without end, for no reason except to profit from killing our military service members for profit.

She is ready to be President, but not ready to face those meanies in the media just yet. Are you kidding? A candidate in the middle of a campaign for control of the White House who is not ready to answer questions from the media because she has not memorized the proper sound bites. She can't be trusted to say the right thing because she doesn't quite know enough about the issues other than hockey, hunting and teen pregnancy. She has to be trained like a circus act before she will be allowed into the ring. Only the Republicans would have the nerve to nominate and defend the nomination of someone so clueless. I for one want to know if she can spell potato without coaching, or find Afghanistan on a map without the help of a campaign consultant. When will she be ready for prime time? Don't ask because she can't tell.

She's out there speaking to the people, screw the media. They all want Obama to win. Why should she play the gotcha game with them>

    • Posted By: consnewyorker @ 09/07/2008 12:09:13 PM

No..all she has to do is steal a speech. Then she will be all set like her counterpart, Joe.

    • Posted By: gliderpilot @ 09/07/2008 11:55:33 AM

One should not make assumptions about Palin because they fit the imagined scenario. Palin will do well when quesioned by the media because she is intelligent and informed (she is the governor of Alaska). Obama did poorly at Saddleback because he had no teleprompter. So he went to Hawaii to study how to deal without the teleprompter. What Obama did not realize, and probably still does not realize, is that spontaniety come from having core values and experience.

why did sarah have genetic testing on her last pregnancy if she doesn't believe in aboriton 'for any reason'? what would she have needed to know, the color of the nursery? this is not sexist, this is about policy and she is a danger to ALL WOMEN and all true americans who believe in the freedoms the constitution provides...speech, assembly, press, etc. ...study up and learn about them...and then study up on 1930s germany and see if you aren't terrified.

    • Posted By: cuppa jo @ 09/07/2008 1:50:30 PM

I was in this situation. I chose not to have the test done on my twins. SOme women want to know so they can prepare themselves and their family. I think it is rather crappy of you to judge her.

Attack Palin on abortion? Does Obama really want to go there? He will open himself to his abortion problem: Infanticide. Somehow I think Americans will be more disgusted at leaving babies to die vs. having women carry a pregnancy to term. But hey that's just me and I admit I don't fall into the same ideology as Josef Mengele.

    Reposting with minor correction.

I was a undecided voter with lot of appreciation for McCain until he choose Sara Pailn as running mate. Now I am clear who I would vote for. I don???t know what others are saying. But, in my opinion, I feel McCain shown his risky decision and his unpredictability by choosing Palin as the last minute (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/31/us/politics/31reconstruct.html) VP pick. I can???t imagine what it would have been if McCain was president during the Cuban missile crisis. I have no doubt that this McCain president would have triggered World War III.

    • Posted By: cuppa jo @ 09/07/2008 1:47:43 PM

He didn't "choose"her at the last minute. She was on the list in the spring. His decision is not risky. The decision to elect an inexperienced senator of Illinois and the USA who has done nothing is risky. Joe Biden, who has been wrong on about every foreign policy decision since Vietnam is risky. This is the man who wanted to divide Iraq into three separate countries for heavens sake. Vote for who you want, but don't pretend you were for McCain before you were against him.

Well if you want to talk about abortion, let's talk about the Born Alive Act that Obama voted against. It had the same federal language and was passed 98-0 in the senate. Obama was against this act b/c he said it was too cumbersome to the mother who had already made her decision to abort the child. So Obama thinks that a baby who lives through a botched abortion should be left to die with no medical treatment.

My friend Fineman you are part of Hussein campaign. You lost this election the day you decided that Hillary Rodham Clinton could ony clean your shirt.By doing so,you chased away reliables Democrat like me who never voted for a republican before and will do t this time around. Please go right ahead and treat Gov Palin the way you did to Clinton,It will only make a democrat like more resolved not only to vote for Mc ,but run some ground games for him.

Howard/Newsweek were very high on my list of respected journalists for many years and then the Democratic media revolution took place and truth is journalism is so difficult to discern. If you do not read the real truth about Barack Obama from other sources than Obama himself and the TV and print outlets you will see that IMPORTANT questions have not been investigated about Obama's Marxist leanings and early acquaintances such as Bill Ayers, a domestic terrorist ; and you must, must read anti-American filth spewing Rev. Wright 's sermons. He was Obamas "minister" and mentor for 20 yrs. Please do your homework.

Obama uses pretty words to describe his "change" but it's nothing but Marxism and empty platitudes dressed up in a pink tu tu with rhinestones glued on.

If the JOURNALISTS in this country really were doing their job; Howard are you listening? then they would report on the REAL Obama. Not the one Obama wants you to think he is.

Obama scares me death and the Democratic lemmings blindly willing to vote for him amaze me.

I love my country and can proudly put my hand over my heart, unlike Obama who holds his arms down his sides so I'm begging you to investigate Obama.

He is not who he says he is.

This "analysis" is reminiscent of financial experts telling us two weeks after the fact why the stock market crashed. But you obviously still don't get it. "[C]areful not to come off as heavy-handed"??? Biden is an overrated (by the left, but not even Dem primary voters) windbag. She is at an entirely different level; if he is lucky, she will not absolutely eviscerate him. Real people don't take him seriously. Conservatives prayed that the Dems' "change-agent" would pick a hack like him as a running mate. The abortion-on-demand segment of Hillary's supporters flatter themselves thinking she is a pander to them. When she goes to Western PA (OH, MI, etc.) to "hang with the fellas" who will decide this election, she won't have to do foolish things like chug shots of whiskey or embarrass herself on a bowling alley. Maybe she'll share hunting / fishing pics, war stories, etc. I don't think it will work now (it's too late to rescind the hatred on one side or her history-making performance on the other), but the best advice available to lefties is to ignore her & go after McCain. Then maybe she won't hurt you.

The idea that any male politician has to put on kid clothes when confronting the self-anointed Pitbull in Lipstick is absurd. Worse, it???s sexist. Palin is a tough mouthed politician and if she???s going to hide behind the ???Oh all the big brutish men are picking on me??? victim argument, she will lose all respect. Joe Biden should treat her like any other politician, and if women want equal pay for equal work, then women must expect equal treatment. Take off thegloves and punch away ??? after all, this is a woman who???s all elbows on the basketball court and who shoots wolves from helicopters and can field dress a moose ??? if she can???t take tough questioning from a man, she should go back home and run her state of 600,000 and let her husband go back to working a real job.

Agnes -- Here's a news flash. THe governor is not a member of the Alaskan legislature. The Governor has a full time job. If you look at your own state, you'd undoubtedly see the same thing

Let me get this straight, the Alaskan Legislature is only in sesssion for 90 days. Does that mean that Sarah Palin only has 6 months experience as governor? She left the town of Wasilla in debt, by building a sports complex. She is neither experienced or a fisclal conservative. Coming from a state that is dependent on oil revenues and federal money, she has no experience dealing with real economic issues.

  • Posted By: brettbo @ 09/07/2008 12:51:07 PM

I think people Mr. Fineman quoted are wrong in saying that Biden has to be careful in going after Palin.
The Biden people are just putting that out to lower expectations of him.

Everyone is comparing this to the Rick Lazio vs. Hillary Clinton senate debate, when he 'Invaded her space.' But that was a Republican man attacking a Democrat woman. The left leaning press is not going to care if a Democrat man goes after a Republican woman.

If Biden went over and gave Palin a noogie during the debate; the left and the press would love it and say that she had it coming. And the right wouldn't complain because, contrary to popular belief, the right generally believes that women are strong, capable, and can handle themselves. The last vestiges of sexism are primarily on the left, not the right.
