Pain / McCain or Biden / Obama, Rumors fly and number constently change. It all depends on who wrote the article. As Americans with the right to participate in making the choice of who will take the riegns of our country I think we all need to realize our decision will afftect our neighbor as much as our neighbors choice will affect us.
In this election I think it is time for everyone to stop riding their respective parties bandwagon and do a little leg work for themselves and their fellow citizens. Don't elect someone on hear say or the candidates ability to wow a crowd with great oratory and charisma. Check the stories, find out how they are going to accomplish things they promise. Look at what has and hasn't succeeded in the past and compare iit to their plans. And no matter what please be coginzant of the candidates as a person not just a politician. I myself think we need more common people in office with exceptional knowledge and drive then just experience in office.
And just a thought about the "experience platform". In reality only oneof the 4 candidates actually has executive office descision making experience and that one is not runnning for president. Others have been tied to being associated with questionable people in cities which they have performed civic work. While others have ony a long history of being true to their party and its status quo. It s a tough choice.
I have done some leg work to try to someof this confusion for myself. So far other than rumors and stories the one thing I have found that is tangible is the history of the only candidate with executive decision making. Yes the only one but what good is that experience if it turns out the decsision making was as poor. Read for yourself by using the link below.
And if you think this more runors, do the leg work, It is all in black and white and can be easily substantiaited. And please don't stop there I urge all of us to do the same leg work for all four candidates then balance the tangible and real stories not what you here in the news or see in the polls.

And on last thought. MAybe it is time we have abllind debate. One in which we can not see or hear the candidates response only see them typed on a monitor. Would we all then be able to pick the nominees from our party? Or would it make it a much simpler process to then vote on the issues, answer and plans to fix this mess without voting on a face or a party platform?
Vote for OUR country, not just YOUR party.

Obama says much about hope. One hope he has is that Americans will not look for independent validation of his statements on economics. Obama likes to say that he will reduce taxes for 95 percent of Americans. The most obvious fault with this statement is that Obama would let the Bush tax cuts lapse, raising taxes on 95 percent of Americans.

Bush had experience and he screwed up the country.

  • Posted By: DawnB @ 09/07/2008 10:59:24 AM

Yes River.Bird and to hear Americans say they will vote for Obama just because he is black is just as ludicrous as voting for someone simply because they're female. Myself, I vote for the person not the party but there are those who will vote the party regardless of whose running .I would think someone as smart as yourself would have noted the similar comparison. You must be a democrat.

What kind of change is that

  • Posted By: cannot @ 09/07/2008 10:55:10 AM

McCain whole campaign is full of lobbyist. Please tell me what kind of chain is that? Please (What Ever) Wake Up America!!!!

Respectable approval ratings in Alaska? What were they exactly Fineman? You are a reporter so you surely know what they are. Typical Newsweek, typical Fineman.

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/07/2008 10:54:56 AM

Her approval rating exceeds 80%. "Respectable" does seem like a bit of an understatement, doesn't it?

Roe v. Wade is established law. The Democrats continue to trot this red herring out to derail the Republicans but I don't think it's going to get Obama one vote he doesn't already have.

I don't like Sarah Palin's positions on social issues but this is an economic election. Sarah Palin has acted and delivered in the best economic interests of her constituents. Barack Obama thinks and talks but has not delivered, other than perhaps to Tony Rezko, a personal financial supporter.

Can someone please explain to me why Cidney McCain's outfit at the convention was $300,000 dollars. Her outfit alone with the 5 to 7 house that they own could have saved at least 7 families from having to forfeit on their mortgage loan. Can some one please tell me how they are intuned with Middle Class and Poor Peoples needs. Someone Please Explain that too me.

Every women out there should be offended with what McCain tried to do and as for as Palin goes everthing McCain is doing now is somehow directly and indirectly related to everything that he has accused Obama of. America please don't be fooled. McCain for change. Yeah Right. Just like the saying goes, "You can not teach and Old Dog New Tricks" and McCain is definately no exception to the rule.

IN ADDITION TO THE TWO SCANDALS SARAH PALIN IS CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN - THE OTHER SHOE MAY DROP ON PALIN THIS WEEK!!!!

"The National Enquirer's coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin's extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor's daughter revealed her pregnancy. Following our John Edwards' exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign's vetting process. Despite the McCain camp's attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum."

I couldn't get over how uncomfortable Johnston looked as Bristol Palin gripped his hand throughout the convention. There is something really bizarre going on there. They all looked like beautiful trash.
I hope McCain/ Palin are elected and I bet every terrorist organisation is hoping they get in too. They will continue to bomb America without any remorse at all. Then McCain will really have something to fight about.
Americans are extremely dim but I put it down to the fact that most of you have very little by way of education. To hear people say they will vote for Palin because she's a woman and a mother is ludicrous. The intelligent Americans who may have to suffer for in the years to come have my sympathies!
      What a sorry country!

Abortion and gun and control should not be on this year election. When people are hungry, out of work with foreclosed houses and no healthcare insurance, they do not think about abortion or gun control. Get with it! The human basic needs must be met BEFORE any other lofty non-related issues can get on the table. Foods first. Don't try to dilute and redirect this year election on anything that won't fill my stomach.

Palin has captured the imagination of America. Its a talent or a gift that she has. Its not something Democrats can challenge. Some of the smarter ones are recommending focus on McCain and ignore Palin. But of course, the media is obsessed with Palin, so she will not be ignored.

American Idol has also captured the imagination of America. To the degree that most Americans have any imagination.

Obama is in a world of hurt. His solution is to make more promises and to give out more "hope" candy to anxious Americans who yearn to have someone else pick up their tabs. The McCain-Palin Republican Party offers solutions which are sound for the economy and sound for growth - job creation through lower taxes and less government is always better than hoped for job creation through high taxes and more government.

Will Biden's relationship with MBNA be an issue as VP's are scrutinized? Biden sold one of his investment properties for a large sum to one of the MBNA guys, MBNA was his largest campaign contributor, his son the lobbyist took a large payment to represent MBNA, Joe voted for bankruptcy reform, supporting MBNA's position, etc,etc...... Didn't young Biden also get an earmark for a client approved by Obama?

Report the news please. How is that one of our nation's Vice-Presidents wins the Noble Peace Prize on Global Warming, and our next potential VP doesn't believe it's happening? How is that we, as human beings, have learned that the Earth is significantly older than 5000 years, yet our next potential VP believes the Earth is 5000 years old. Finally, how is it that Sarah Palin believes that life begins at conception, yet she has never been asked about whether she believes fertility clinics are murderous. Oh, I forgot, we can't ask her these questions because she is being protected by the Right Wing. Wake up Proles!

    • Posted By: Dencal26 @ 09/07/2008 9:18:05 AM

Yasser Arafat has a Nobel Peace Prize for being the Father of Modern Arab Terrorism. Now what did you say about Gores Nobel??

      • Posted By: milo9 @ 09/07/2008 9:39:09 AM

Arafat's Nobel was for seeking peace as was the contemporaneous Nobel for Menachim Begin. What does this say about your Republican liar.

        • Posted By: Dencal26 @ 09/07/2008 10:07:25 AM

Arafat NEVER sought peace. Even Bill Clinton realized this in his last 6 Months in office. Giving a Nobel to Arafat made that award WORTHLESS.

I voted for Dems in election 2006
They promised to end War Funding, They promised to lower gas prices. They promised to end Warrantless Wiretaps. They promised immediate withdrawl from Iraq. Yhey promised to reverse the defecit spending the GOP did and the defecit has tripled since Jan 2007. They sold us a Sack of LIES to win an election. I will not fall for it again.

Joe Biden has been out on the campaign - and if you had really been paying attention you would know that. And speaking of not casting votes - John McCain has not bothered to cast a vote in the US Senate since early this year. Not one vote cast. Not on the GI Bill (which he opposes but didn't have the guts to show up to cast his vote); not on the FISA bill - nothing. So please, stop with the argument about "present". And|, BTW, the way you are using the term present in this context is incorrect anyway. In the Illinois Legislature - "present" means you object to some portion of the bill as presented - that it should be revised or amended. It does not mean you are not voting on the bill.

You are right tho- Gov Palin has a state to run. It would be nice tho' if we could hear the truth about her record - instead of the easily proved lies the McCain campaign has put forth. Like Gov Palin being so adamant against earmarks - that is if you don't count the millions she hired obtained from the Fed Govt while she was mayor; and oh yeah - how she said 'no thanks' to Congress on the bridge to nowhere - except that she was initially for it - and never returned the money that the Fed Government gave for the bridge. Shall we go on?

And as for the comment comparing VP Gore's Nobel prize to Yasser Arafat's - are you implying that all those who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize are like Arafat? What a ridiculous, outrageous comment to make.

    • Posted By: Dencal26 @ 09/07/2008 10:02:22 AM

Yes I am implying that the fact that the Father Of Modern Arab Terrorism receiving a Nobel prize devalues that award totally. Its WORTHLESS.

Respectable approval ratings in Alaska? What are they exactly Fineman? You are a reporter, surely you have the number. Why wouldn't you include it in your article. Typical Newsweek, typical Fineman.

Sarah Palin could be an elusive target for Democrats? Why? Just treat her like any other political candidate. BTW - Her speech came off as smug to me.
