18 lies???? Really? I'm sure you could name them because you're probably reciting Barak America's talking points . . . how many times has he lied??? Public funding, earmark's for his wife's hosptial, military service, not visiting troops, Jeremiah Wright . . . the lack of coverage regarding Barak is abusurd. A DNC pac in Alaska has credited Palin for stopping that bridge, and yes, she did put the jet on ebay. That is eventually sold thru a broker doesn't make that a lie. I guess you're one of those dailykos subscribers who thinks she's lying about giving birth to her youngest son. Keep drinking Barak's koolaid, it will be very expensive should he win!!!!

There is plenty for the democrats to hit Sarah Palin about. Palin is no Hillary Clinton and that's because Hillary didn't make stuff up!! Sarah Palin lied 18 times in her convention speech. Now the truth is really going to come out about her! What kind of character does this woman have?
We are open minded. So open minded that we do use our brains and think for ourselves! We don't let one policitical party tell us a bunch of lies, make things up and then try to sell them as truth!! Talk about character!!
"The McCain camp has tried to again obscure the facts about Gov. Palin. 'She is a reformer and against earmarks.' No she isn't, when she was mayor of that town she hired a lobbyist to get earmarks... 'She was against the bridge to nowhere.' No she wasn't. She was for the bridge to nowhere first... She is a budget balancer. But she left the town in greater debt then when she became mayor, so she is not a budget balancer."

"She is a good person, she has tremendous potential but in no way shape or form is she ready to be president of the United States."

"She claims to be a reformer. " "And yet she is being investigated on the charge that she used her power as governor to fire someone who was going through a messy divorce with a relative of hers. Could you imagine if anyone else was doing the same thing in Pennsylvania or any other state? They would be calling for that govenor's impeachment." Imagine if Barack was in the situation - WHOA!! would the media and everyone come down on him.

Well Mr. Fineman, I hope you enjoy the fine mess you and your sexist buddies in the media have gotten us into. As a democrat who harped on you constantly to back Hillary Clinton for at least Veep, to your totally deaf sexist ears, I hope you are enjoying seeing the democrats in dire trouble now. It sure was nice for you to back the inexperienced guy over the more experienced woman and how you must have jumped for joy when the fix was in nominating him. Oh yeah, I forgot, it was for that miraculous fine judgment Obama was supposed to have, that same judgment that made him and his team so full of themselves they thought they didn't even need to consider Clinton or her 18 million backers for VP. Yes, some of us will find it in ourselves to hold our nose and vote for the undeserving Obama, and some of us will stay home and some of us will write in Clinton. If you are worth anything, Mr. Fineman, maybe you can convince your pals in Obamaland that they need to do something beyond their regular B.S. symbolism to remedy the situation. Like making maybe making Bill Clinton head of the Treasury, or frankly, anything he wants but tying him to the economy and Obama would be Obama's best shot at being elected. Also make a public (and I mean public because this is for Hillary Clinton's supporters more even more than her) offer of a post of her choice, or get Biden to step aside and put her on for VP like he should have in the first place. Duh. I can't believe how this Obama guy campaigned on a sugary unity theme and then ignored getting the 18 million Clinton voters on board with him right off the bat. Yes, the Clintons bring baggage but some of that baggage is the memory of a great economy and a country at peace.

Barry. I am worried. I am. That old hobbit is ahead in the polls. How did it happen? Your coronation was such a hit....I hate that old frog....and his Stepford wife too. And the worst part is the thought of trailer trash from Alaska living at the VP mansion. Some of their kind might even be allowed to stay at the Lincoln bedroom. Mary Lincoln is probably rolling in her grave. And where are all those kids gonna go to school? My mom says that none of the private schools in Washington serve moose. That Palin crowd has probably never set foot in a Barney or Sachs Fifth Avenue. They probably have never even heard of Zaabar. But my dad says you still have a chance if you get rid of Biden and run with Hillary. He says you should have him feign an illness or that you should dig up some dirt on him and force him to resign. Sounds good. Don't it?

SARAH PALIN's PHENOMENON ENABLED BY DEMO BOSSES and LIB MEDIA

What irony! Democrats would have nothing to worry about had they put Hillary as a VP on their ticket. McCain would not take this risk without hope (right or wrong) that Palin would attract Hillary's votes. Even her conservative credentials would not suffice to take such a gamble.
I am Hillary supporter and will vote for demo ticket (although my spirit is squashed by the demo party machine) --but some of my friends will not. Do not blame them--blame the stupidity of Dean/Pelosi/Read who would risk 18 mlns votes for nothing. So--here is fruit: lethargy amongst the Obama suppporters and elation for Palin.

    Hey Howard,

Aren't you a member of the media? Why is it up to the Democrats to "prospect for ammunition" about this completely obscure newcomer to the scene? I would think you, as a reporter and editorial writer, woud be absolutely ravenous for information about an unknown person that could very likely have their finger on the button should anything happen to McCain (if he gets elected). We are already aware of everything you just told us about Palin. Aren't any of you in the media just a little bit curious? I know I sure am. Are you afraid the Republicans will accuse you of picking on Palin if you dig a little bit? Or are your GOP bosses reining you in? The American public would very much appreciate anyone in the media who brings us some truth. Go Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Maher. You guys are the only ones bringing the truth. Comedy Central and HBO are doing the job. A lot of us out here appreciate that.

Joe Biden, the democrats' answer to the white-haired McCain, is going to look washed out an worn out, no matter how much his sharp tongue wags, when he comes up against the attractive pit bull with lipstick. This woman, Ms. Palin, is vibrant, smart, and wickedly funny. And she runs Alaska. The democrats have met their doom. They have no more foreign policy experience than she has, and Barak Hussein Obama has never shot a caribou, then cooked it for supper. This is going to be fun to watch.

Sure, she's pro-life, opposing abortion in all cases except when the mother's life is in danger. And she opposes same-sex marriage and favors teaching creationism alongside evolution in schools.

But she hasn't pushed for legislative changes in any of those areas.

To me this says that Palin knows the limits of what should be legislated and what should be left to personal choice. That is perhaps more pro-choice than the liberals think.

    • Posted By: Anniep @ 09/08/2008 4:22:05 PM

She has claimed that she would be an advocate for special needs children, but so far she has done nothing to back this up in her home state. If she really believes in choice, she should say so instead of crowing about her choice to have her baby, and her daughter's choice to do the same.
I have heard that she believes the Bible is historical fact and she draws her life lessons from it. Does that mean women who cannot find husbands can get their fathers drunk and seduce them as I believe Lot's daughters did?
People who believe that Creationism is what should be taught in school, tha the Iraq war is 'God's work' and that the jury is still out on global warming should not be in positions of power. I want my children to be properly educated in sexual matters. By the way, Alaska has the highest incidence of STD's. If America votes in McCain/Palin the American people deserve everything they get.

So if Sarah Palin is so wonderful, then why isn't she talking to the press? Why are McCain's cronies trying to block an investigation on her?

  • Posted By: Yes! We ALL Can @ 09/08/2008 2:52:05 PM

No so elusive anymore! Please see below:

This is a newsworthy story in light of American's current concern regarding Sarah Palin's effectiveness as a VP candidate!

Since all Americans are questioning McCain's judgment about picking Sarah Palin and at the core of everyone's concern is her inexperience and utter lack of foreign or national policy understanding - I think it's important that the American people know about this mistake as soon as Sarah was not around one of Bush's speech writers and did not have a teleprompter in front of her!!

By the way - hopefully "Softball" Gibson will ask Sarah Palin the tough questions that the American voters need to know and understand about her qualifications to be VP - which being a gritty mother of 5 is not one of them - respectful and demanding in it's own right - but certainly not a qualification to be VP of the United States!! Let's hope you write about this first mistake - I'm sure of many more to come - about how inexperienced and unqualified Sarah Palin really is. See below...

McCain's judgment should be seriously questioned! He made a terrible mistake in picking Plain. Obvious fact: in the wake of the government taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - here's what Sarah Palin had to say below. Sarah Palin is seriously under-qualified for a job that McCain (should he win - which I don't see it happening) that she has ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE of national or foreign policy and lacks the understanding for a wide array of issues right now!! Palin is not ready to be VP for anybody!!

Gov. Sarah Palin made her first potentially major gaffe during her time on the national scene while discussing the developments of the perilous housing market this past weekend.

Speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." The companies, as McClatchy reported, "aren't taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization."

Economists and analysts pounced on the misstatement, saying it demonstrated a lack of understanding about one of the key economic issues likely to face the next administration.

"You would like to think that someone who is going to be vice president and conceivable president would know what Fannie and Freddie do," said Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. "These are huge institutions and they are absolutely central to our country's mortgage debt. To not have a clue what they do doesn't speak well for her, I'd say."

Even conservative analysts acknowledged that the statement simply did not hold true.

    Thank you.

    I say BEWRAE OBAMA!

I struggle to understand the hullabaloo over Mr. Obama. As a black person living in America , I personally think it is a disgrace that folks rush to elevate a man who was complicit in the self-destruction of the black community. For 20 years he sat by and allowed trusting black folks to wallow in the self-defeatism dished out by Rev. Wright. This is the same defeatist thought that is echoed through the African-American community today. Where was the message of "HOPE & CHANGE"? Where was the "YES WE CAN" cry when it was needed most? Who better to transform that backward thinking group than someone unscathed by the 60s? Just think what could have been if Mr. Obama had shown a modicum of leadership (or at the very least walked away). But he did absolutely nothing! Just thinking of his non-action send chills through my bones and evokes a wellspring of sadness that will never be assuaged.

I am even more grateful today that I was blessed with parents whose vision have long transcended race. Failing that, I and siblings could have easily been among the causalities of the missteps and missed opportunities that were there for the taking after the Civil Rights era. The selfless action by M art in Luther who paid the ultimate price is who should be lauded as being a hero "for all of us that have dreams and hope". That is, he did what was right without a single thought of the personal gains (or harm) to himself.

Finally, I would challenge every voter this November to think well on this and ask yourself if you could with a clear conscience give this man a pass - I cannot. For we become who we are by the folks we look to as heroes.

When Obama delivered his speech March 18 in Philadelphia he knew the whole country would be tuned in. This was his one chance in a lifetime to say something that would change America for the better. This was his chance to reverse the damage he did to black folks over the 20 years he attended to Chicago Trinity Chruch. Rather than defend himself, and merely confess to the previous day lie, he could have given to the African American community testimony of real value. For example, he could have said (speaking as Obama):
Rev Wright invites the African American community to engage in the worship of hopelessness. He brings to them the poison cup of imagined paralysis. He wears the robe of despair. He says the white man is holding blacks down. He conjures up the image of past slavery and Jim Crow. But this is not 1960 Selma. It is post Martin Luther King Jr.
The world is there for the taking. Life is good. The sun shines today and will shine again tomorrow. Get an education even if you have to learn at home. Discover the joy of learning. It will serve you for life.
People can become accustomed to anything. Become accustomed to productive activities. Find a good project that you love; it will bring fulfillment, success and happiness. Life's fulfillment comes from study, work, and self improvement.
Understand that the beauty and wonder of this world are there for those who can see them. Wherever you are, you only have to open your eyes. The road to happiness and contentment starts from within, not from without.
Dependence on the white man or on government is a downhill path. Make some achievement your goal, never recognition or respect for their sakes.
There is no conspiracy of the white man or anybody else looking over you. Other people have their own lives to live. You have yours to live. Happiness comes from giving, not waiting in expectation. Do not think you have less to give than the white man has to give. The white man is your friend (for he is), as is every color and creed of man.
This is my advice to my African American brothers.

You did well in scripting what he should have said. In short he should have plead mea culpa instead of pretending he was not similarly ttrapped in the 60s like Rev. Wright. However his wife gave away their true state when she expressed surprised that they were so warmly received. So for the 1st time she really felt she was American and went so far as to say so. Naturally it is not politically correct to admit this truth so they attempt to finesse their true thoughts. But I am not fooled one bit.

Let me first adjust a mis-conception and mis-calculation: Hillary's 18 Million votes were not all women. I am a Black, Ivy-League Educated, registered Democrat and Hillary supporter. While I allow that Obama is eligible to run, he is not qualified (experience and preparation-wise) to be President. I've always believed that Minorities and Women had to be twice as good and perform twice as well to break barriers, while Obama seems to be an Affirmative Action of the worse kind. I am still undecided but I recognize two critical things: (a) my vote for Palin is a vote for Hillary 2012 and (b) Obama could actually lose this thing in spite of the trends and issues in his favor.

Second, look at the actions, not the words. While expressing Confidence in the outcome and dismissing the Palin Effect, the Obama Campaign is dispatching female surrogates to try to counter it. After first belittling the experience of McCain's VP choice who would be a "heartbeat" away from the Presidency, they decided to try to focus their fire on McCain, realizing that an experience comparison between Obama and Palin actually diminishes Obama. (BTW, I'm sure that Palin will continue her experience assault for the same reason.) (And, let's not forget Kerry's choice of John Edwards as VP candidate.)The experience factor provides cover rationale for what otherwise would be called the Bradley Effect. Obama's campaign is astute enough to recognize this. And in the latest Obama refinement/flip-flop?, he says the surge was a Success. The seven (7) houses ridicule was a waste of time and actually back-fired as so many of the people in Obama's support group of high-income, highly educated elites have multiple residences and proud of it.

Third: Isn't it interesting that the only parties calling for Gov Palin to speak to the Media are the Media and, perhaps, the Obama campaign? I think it would be Brilliant for the McCain campaign to keep her under wraps (so to speak) until the VP Debate. The allure and celebrity will continue while the focus on that Debate will build, the expectations on her performance versus the King of Foreign Policy Expertise will be low, Biden will not know what to expect, and -- the Best Part -- The Media will grow increasingly frustrated, resentful and invasive, swelling the potential backlash should she end up kicking Butt. Of course, the option to pursue this isolationist strategy depends on the Polls. If they stay close, or are ahead, they can afford to.

You speak as though hiding Palin from the media is a good objective for the McCain campaign. This is of course true if you want McCain to win, however, this shouldnt be about the campaign but about Americans. Voters deserve to know Palin, her experience, questions about her poliicies, and what she actually believes and why. The sad and scary thing is that only the media thus far has demanded sarah Palin to speak. We the people should demand it so we could make the best decision possible come November. McCain is in it only to win it, that is not what America needs right now.
Second, the McCain camp and the entire GOP have tried to make this election into a popularity contest and an election based entirely on character. This right now is working, as McCain has a great life story, and Palin seems like a down-to-earth politician. However, it doesnt matter if the president is a war hero or if the vp likes moose stew, what matters is the policies that they are going to administer in office. America has lost touch with the important issues including the war, the economy, healthcare, immigration, and education. McCain has rarely spoken about such issues, and the truth is voters and the American people barely address the issues. Instead they are stuck in a bitter and pointless debate about character, media bias, and oprah. The frightening thing is people voted for George W. Bush because he had a great, heartland character. Look where that has led us. Please vote on the issues and put these petty politics aside.

Another black person like me who saw the unfairness. Just think if qualifications and experiences were reversed us black folks would be crying discrimination. Well I have told all my black friends I do not want to hear their cries of unfairness ever again. Because when they were required to step up they did nothing. Since when little bitty staes and caucuses trump primaries and big states? And no one got to the finish so Hillary earned the right to address the convention and plead her case.

I am no hyprocrite and cannot support a lie so it is McCain/Palin - at least those folks were principled. And yes McCain should hide her away from the baying pack who only wants to rip her to shreds! Scarcity is her biggest draw. I am in awe that she is a real moose hunter that must make Obama sweating at his unwise Annie Oakley comment about Hillary. These days I just have to read these blogs to get a hearty laugh.

Even your article is not accurate. Sarah Palin did not fund the Bridge to Nowhere. It was already in place when she took office as Governor of Alaska. She reduced it dramatically, kept $2 mil and built a ferry instead of gross govt waste. At this point, after watching the DNC and witnessing the Clintons and Biden switch from against Obama to standing there lying for him, I have no respect and no trust for the Democratic party. After doing my own research into Obama's past, and looking at the dismally appalling record of Hillary and Bill Clinton, I will convert to Republican and vote McCain and Palin all the way. To watch 40 people mysteriously die during the Clinton's ascent to the White House and to learn that Hillary Clinton spent hre time as first lady going through the FBI files of senators and congressmen so that she could gain ammunition with which to attack them when needed for her own political power struggle. To look at Hillary and Whitewater and everything she touches seems only to produce scandals and shame, she is not worthy to wear Sarah Palin's shoes, not the other way around.
Did it ever once occur to you idiot reporters that we, the people of the United States want one thing and one thing only - the truth. Politicians that understand what it means to be a servant of the people, and a media that has even a fundamental understanding of what it means to report the facts, the unbiased, facts, not to promote yellow journalism and push their agenda.
Thank you DNC and MSNBS, CBS,, NBC, and ABC and OPRAH who is obviously racist, because she featured Obama but will not invite an incredible woman who is now making history onto her show because of her own bias and prejudice, I guess Tolkein's philosophy didn't rub off deep enough on Opray because she cannot come to that peaceful center and realize that Sarah Palin is going to champion the cause of women everywhere and advance the nation of America along with John McCain back to its moral and ethical center - where it should be. Thank you for helping me to see the light by all of your negative and vicious attacks and false reporting so that I will now turn from Democrat to Republican and will no longer support Obama.

She pretends to be supermom by killing her own meat, but doesn't believe in birth control! Palin is warped. I am not Pro Obama, but I am ANTI- PALIN. SO if you kill your own meat but dosen't believe in birth cintrol what does killing meat have to do with birth control -please explain the connection. Hillary is a power hungry whore who stay with a cheating husband who is still cheating on her for the power -please any woman with any self respect would have left Bill years ago but no she sold her self respect for power!! f Barack Obama really wants to fix "the broken politics of Washington," he could start with his running mate, Beltway insider Joe Biden.

Indeed, the Delaware senator's Capitol Hill seniority has proven to be a dividend to his family - including his son, Hunter, a multimillion-dollar DC lobbyist.

As The Los Angeles Times reported, Hunter Biden and his uncle - Joe Biden's brother - got $2 million in financing (to buy a premium hedge fund) from a law firm that has lobbied the senator's office on a key bill, and benefited nicely from Biden's vote.

That firm, SimmonsCooper - one of the nation's leading tort-law firms - used as its local counsel in Delaware a law firm whose partners included another Biden son, Beau, who'd obtained the contract.

SimmonsCooper and the Biden family are old friends, the paper reports.

The firm and its employees have given more than $200,000 to Joe Biden's campaigns - his largest contributor. Biden is the biggest recipient of SimmonsCooper's largesse.

Yes I'd take Sarah as President ANY DAY OF THE WEEK over idiots like Obama/Biden who have NEVER created jobs, balanced budgets, etc. She's a billion times BETTER for America than socialist Obama and his tax the rich and give to the poor blacks approach.
