This is a difficult subject. U.S. Schools want students to compete on a global level, with other countries so they boost the expectations for the students. The problem is that schools need to also allow for a release of pent up energy that ALL kids, but especially boys, have after several hours of intense classroom work.
Like it or not, Schools today are geared toward white, female, middle-class children. Kids are expected to sit all day in a classroom and be quiet, do quiet things, don't get up and move around, don't fidget, and stay on task. All of these things are inherently (as a GENERAL rule) female qualities. Boys need to be able to let loose. They need more frequent opportunities to run and let off steam.
I think schools need to be separated into all boys and all girls, no more co-ed. At least for elementary and middle school. They just learn too differently to integrate well. Separating them would alleviate so many inherent problems.
