Let me give you my opinion to you hypocritical, angry liberals who favor pro choice. Based on this comment.

"Teach both" IS pro- teaching creationism in schools. Period. In
Florida, we've been fighting just this sort of agenda. They are
anti-evolution but, when forced to teach it, the creationists say,
    "teach both."

Well "Teach Both" is not pro- teaching creationism in schools.
It's called give the kids a "CHOICE". Personally i wouldn't want to
tell my kid his ancestor was a monkey. You guys go ahead and teach
that to your kids if you want to. It's funny that you evolutionist have this attitude
towards my way or the highway and when a different perspective comes along
you guys don't want to hear it. So much for freedom of choice. Freedom of choice
for the democrats is we are free to choose what you can learn in school.

The Christian creation story is an allegory handed down through history first through oral tadition and then finally written down many centuries later. Biblical scholars agree that Jewish traditions were taught through many literary forms ... allegory, parrables etc. Most religions have a creation story.. including the Budhists, Hindus, Native American tribal beleifs... The Chrisitan creation story was never a literal belief even among early Jews. The "seven days" for example is used because the number 7 was seen as the number of comletion. As "40" was an expression of a significant number. Most Rabinical and Christian biblical scholars agree that the creation story is meant to convey the underlying belief that creation was brought about by God and was never meant to be taken literally even by those who wrote the bible. I have no objection to a class in Comparative Theology being taught. I think children would benefit from an understanding of the many different views of throughout time of our origins. However, Evolution is a scientific theory. To become a Theory using the scienctific definition, something must be demonstratable over and over using the scientific method. The Judeo-Christian creation story cannot be proven using the scientific method because it is theology and not science. That does not mean it lacks value, it just means it cannot be scientifically proven. The Catholic church has come to terms with this by saying that evolution is scientifically provable, but that it was God who shaped this process from the beginning.

Yeah, right. I bet you haven't mentioned to your kid that they started life as a single celled organism.

Factcheck.org can be traced back to the Annenberg Foundation which was started by William Annenberg. William Annenberg - a lifelong conservative Republican. Just stating a fact.

      road tripper -

Thanks for providing evidence that Republicans do strive to present facts, whereas obamabots scurry to disguise or dismiss facts!

Simon...are you an idiot?? They were not talking about "out of print" books. They were talking about books NOT EVEN IN PRINT ie books that HAD NOT EVEN BEEN WRITTEN YET!

The books did not exist in ANY LIBRARY or BOOKSTORE anywhere on this earth! unbelievable

Rowe vs Wade will be overturned if McCain/Palin takes office and I won't feel sorry for the female population one pick.

That is probably true, however all that does is send the issue to the states. Some states will make abortion alway legal, some always illegal and the rest will fall somewhere in the middle. So, if you are raped in Mississippi, you will need to travel to another state to get an abortion. This will only deter the very poorest. Many womens groups will provide free transportation. There have been abortions since Roman times, it will never be eradicated. I would like to go after the reasons why most women get abortions... lack of education, lack of access to contraception, poverty. I think that is the real answer, not just making it illegal in some states.

  • Posted By: Simon Says ??? @ 09/10/2008 10:46:29 AM

simon, you idiot. They were talking about books NOT IN PRINT, not OUT OF PRINT!

Some of the books on the list had YET to be written...they DID NOT EVEN EXIST YET!!!

Is it true that the court record in the case of Palin's sister and the Wooten the trooper found the Palin family, to include Sarah, to be outrageous? It seems that the judge threatened to give custody to Wooten if they did not stop.

Why is it that all Republicans have such quick tempers and thick skins? I think that down deep they are embarassed to support a new version of Dan Quayle only this time with lipstick and glasses.

  • Posted By: jlivesay @ 09/10/2008 10:33:53 AM

Apparently you ***'n republicans can say anything and it is alright - frickin hypocrites (just saying).

  • Posted By: jlivesay @ 09/10/2008 10:32:09 AM

LOL LOL - the masters of slime (GOP) get a little come upance, about time. Remember Max Cleland, McCain's illigit black kid et etc, Kerry's war record, lying about Bush's Natl Guard time et etc etc....

Do the writers of this piece understand what "out-of-print means"? They have claimed that the list of books that Sarah Palin allegedly wished to ban contained some which were out of print, and that this means the list isn't genuine. That's nonsense: some of the books in any library will be out of print at any time, and those are just as bannable as the books that aren't.

  • Posted By: road tripper @ 09/10/2008 10:31:16 AM

oops. Walter Annenberg, not William Annenberg.

  • Posted By: culbeda @ 09/10/2008 10:27:01 AM

It's nice to see that Newsweek has finally decided to start debunking some of these myths, although I do take exceptions with exaggerations being called outright lies. Palin did make inquiries into having books banned and she does advocate teaching Creationism in school. So these issues are not complete fabrications. Luckily, for her, she had the good sense not to push them further. It would have been nice to balance the article with some of the legitimate arguments that have been levied against her, namely "The Bridge to Nowhere" and her record on earmarks.

Moreover, it would be nice if Newsweek afforded the same courtesy to Obama, who has been on the receiving end of the most disgusting I've seen since Scaife went after Bill Clinton. I have received, multiple times, claims that he is muslim, doesn't love America, is pro-Infanticide and that he is espousing the values (or is secretly a member) of the Black Liberation Army, etc, And while you would HOPE that reasonable people would not fall for these ridiculous rumors, I continue to receive them.

This political season has been exceptionally vile so far and it would be nice to see the media finally work to dispel this nonsense once and for all. So how about it?

Bahhhh, if someone wants to call Gov. Palin a pig, then fine, she's a pig. nbd.

      flucky -

Are you unaware that you posted this juvenile irrational comment less than 2 minutes after you first posted it?

You have demonstrated the inability of an obamabot to actually be capable of rational thought!

Palin is just a distraction cooked up to get the religious right fired up and hide the fact that after 8 years of republican control, we are in a terrible mess. Our economy is in terrible shape, the defecit just hit 408 billion, the highest in our history, banks are failing, unemployment is rising, health care is becoming less and less available and affordable. Our standing in the world has declined. Our relations with other nations especially our allies are damaged. After Guantanamo bay, Abu Graihb, the Weapons of mass destruction that weren't there, our neglect of Afganistan, secret prisons now being found in Poland where we torture people. Oh, and lets not forget the whole Plame debacle, and the justices that were fired and the multitude of sex scandles with pages and in bathrooms etc. I could go on and on.... Why would anyone trust a party that has been this destructive enough to give them another 4 years? I want our country to be a good example to the world again. I want fiscal repsonsiblity ... and not by continuing tax cuts for the wealthy and cutting social programs for the poor. How is that even moral? I want to not cringe every time my President opens his mounth and sticks his foot in! President Bush is an embarrassment and McCain has promised to follow most if not all of his policies. How can we expect a different out come?

  • Posted By: Saved2 @ 09/10/2008 10:10:50 AM

McCain & Palin are dogs. How can you trust anything they say - both of them lie so much. We cannot afford worse than the same nor can we allow them to put us in a third World War. Do not vote for these people. They are both devils!

Please don't believe everything you read. She is NOT Pentacostal! I sit behind her occasionally in church. Do your research people. As a govenor she it is her job is to secure Alaska's part in federal funding for roads. She intelligently said no to the "Bridge to Nowhere" as there were bigger demands in Alaska. Have you been to Alaska? We have some of the worst roads in the country along with the worst road conditions. If the funding was diverted as you said, then it was a good cause. Sarah is an educated woman and mother. Please do your research before you find it so easy to condemn her. One final point is here is something you can look up. Senator Obama is "the" most liberal left wing in the senate. Do you really want him running this country?

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 09/10/2008 10:07:42 AM

The Obama people just attack with no regard to fact. They are scared because McCain made a brilliant move picking Palin, while Obama laid a fat egg with Joe "I invented the Surge" Biden. Let them talk all they want....let them call anyone they don't like pigs, racist, blah blah blah....just make McCain victory in November that much sweeter.

    • Posted By: jab1359 @ 09/09/2008 12:13:03 PM

Yes. Yes I do really want him riunning tis country. Did you want McCain running it 100% before your church sister was placed on the ticket? Yes I want Barack as I want Clinton running this country. I don't want Palin stepping in to the role of President if something were to happen to McCain. and yes Palin herself claims her Pentecostal faith.

    According to Scientific American:

That didn't stop Republican vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, from expressing the idea that creationism???the biblical notion that God created Earth and its life forms a few thousand years ago???should get equal footing with evolution in public school science classes. "Teach both," she said during a 2006 televised gubernatorial debate. "You know, don't be afraid of information."

This contradicts the claim that "Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools." Care to refute Sci-Am's quotation?

Do you want to write the story on Palin's PASTOR PROBLEM?!!! Please don't be biased now - you felt the need to run a story on Obama's pastor - what about Palin's?!!

I thought you guys reported to us - The AMERICAN PEOPLE - not to the McCain Campaign!!

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 09/10/2008 10:04:47 AM

Lets talk pastors then....Wright, Pfleger...you really want that brought back up again?

  • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 09/10/2008 10:03:35 AM

Glad to see the comment section back. Glad to see all the Obama supporters/Newsweek doing their best to slime Palin. The more you bash the better McCain/Palin's chances are in November.
